If you're using stratum miners, but you still uses "api.bitcoin.cz:8332", be sure to use "stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333" to avoid hanging your stratum miner on dead getwork pool...

So I've been using the mining_proxy.exe and then pointing cgminer to localhost:8332

Should I disregard that and use cgminer with stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 instead?  I try to put in stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 and it hangs and quits.

Mining proxy says:

Server: Other
Host: stratum.bitcoin.cz
Port: 3333
(rest should be self-explanatory)

It does not work right now, but when the situation will be ok then it should work.

Yes, it's down again.

Btw guys at OVH (my datacentre) totally failed, in contrast to their original promises. I had "plan b)", that stratum machine actually has many "hidden" IPs which were supposed to be for use of "trusted miners" in case of DDoS. Unfortunately this plan b) failed, because these idiots at OVH null-routed all these IPs at once *facepalm*.

How long until the script kiddies get bored and go away?

How long do the denial of service attacks typically last?

Until they get bored. I don't think anyone profits from this situation, and I think they can find better places for their zombies which give them more money/"reputation"/whatever.
