Couple of points from reading the threads:

1. FCC database doesn't get updated unless you get FCC ID (there are various different FCC certifications), which is unnecessary and we have not applied for it.

2. AsicBoost pool patches exist for eloipool, btcpool and ckpool which covers almost all of the software that existing mining pools use today. Most of the Chinese pools are powered by btcpool or custom versions of eloipool. In short, there is no barrier at all for pools to integrate version-rolling support - most of the work is done for them. However, until the DragonMints hit the street, we may not see urgency from the pool operators to upgrade.

https://github.com/luke-jr/eloipool/compare/verroll
https://github.com/btccom/btcpool/pull/57/commits/befe7becde54c83509d781302f56679a4c229516
https://bitbucket.org/ckolivas/ckpool/commits/fc60b6d67f7a2aed3b7aae740469a855de4221d0

Maybe good for someone to do a patch for NOMP/UNOMP.

3. Regarding pools, undecided what we'll do regarding default pools. It may reduce support questions if we preconfigure initially. Right now focus is on shipping. Firmware defaults can be tweaked later. Open to suggestions on how to handle this. Miners in warehouse are configured for Slush at the moment.

4. DragonMint T1 is a high performance computational server for sha256d POW, so it will work on any coin that supports that algorithm - it just requires pool support, which anyone can spin up today with the above software.

Drak, do both. Have supporting pools provide you with a current list of mining targets that people can easily select and add their desired address, while still having the option of being able to self-direct as well. If pool operators want some of the market share, they'll come to you guys with a nice tidy list they'll want to keep updated.

Slush is good. It might impact the privacy of the number of the miners shipped by watching the hashrate spike, but maybe you don't even care.

Any coupons for your first/previous customers in order to buy more gear? Thank you!

The way eBit does it is have 3 pools in a drop down and then a custom option. That seems to work pretty well. That way people will understand they're using a "custom" pool and it may not work as well. I do imagine that pools who don't have AB will want to test that it works - for example, I'll point my unit at Kano so he can get it up and running. Having the ability to override the defaults would be needed for that.

Quote from: Halongmining's Twitter post

Halong's goal is to improve decentralization, by increasing manufacturer diversity, not killing competitors. We are a threat to status quo for sure, but replacing one monopoly with another, would be a total failure and BAD for Bitcoin.

https://t.co/tbtJ0UnSsA

Ultimately, a custom setting would be best, so users can choose for themselves.

However, looking at that Twitter post, it appears that Halongmining wants to do the opposite of Bitmain's business plan. They have
concerns about decentralization, and the health of Bitcoin.

If this is a true goal, maybe they should consider -ck's Pool and Kano's Pool before Slush. Both of their pools are geared in the direction
Halongmining is talking about. These guys have put in some MAJOR time with the Bitcoin community, and still do, while Slush seems to be more concerned about Hardware wallets, and probably just gets reports of the pool from a Corporate Committee. A committee, that shows no concern for the health of Bitcoin, as mining empty blocks is probably a waste. Don't get me wrong, SLUSH, put in time and effort, but his pool, and hell his legendary account here, are no longer run by him.

Considering the option to add pools, run by people who are STILL working towards the future of Bitcoin, might be a good move.

OOH YEEEAH

Thank guys for the updates on your miners. I was one of the few on the front line to place an order nearly 3 months ago for 7 of these bad boys, hopefully all will be good on delivery of the miners.

GREAT DAY for me to see this.

Great job Halong ... great job!

It is entirely unclear to me if Halong Mining itself has actually invested $30 million...

That doesnt make sense. No reason why a 3rd party would write software, develop, produce and prototype miners for halong for free lol.

That doesnt sound right either because their telegram has like 600+ users only back max then and some of those people were skeptical, just like this thread. I was there too and I didnt order. I dont believe any large investor in their right mind will place a big order without even see-ing 1 miner being delivered. It isnt even a tested product. I doubt they have 50million worth of orders or anything like that. That is just marketing talk.

I dont think bitmain believes it either. Bitmain has flooded the market with bitcoin miners like V9 for cheap. Litecoin mining is now alot more profitable than Bitcoin mining, unlike the past. Bitmain is trying to take down its competitor. It is not something they havent done before though. Now I fear they come up with an S11, which will be bad for S9 owners. And maybe they will give some 500 dollar coupon or something for S11 buyers for those who have S9. Just my gut feeling on this. If Halong came to the market 1 year earlier, it would have been better for them. They are kinda late.

They didn't do it for free.

Dragonmint stole it. That is why they were so quiet.

It appears that the DM is very much real; though no one knows quality levels at this point. It also should be said that it is not really much better than the S9, consuming roughly 10% more power. There are quite a few questions that are still unknown. If asciboost software becomes readily available en-masse, then the DM is just another drop in the bucket.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet on AB becoming readily available for S9's at some point.

It is entirely unclear to me if Halong Mining itself has actually invested $30 million...

That doesnt make sense. No reason why a 3rd party would write software, develop, produce and prototype miners for halong for free lol.

The R&D costs associated with making AsicBoost a reality, including the legal costs to secure the patent, must have been substantial. Halong Mining didn't invent or create AsicBoost. Someone had to fund the production of small batches of wafers, etc. to test it and iterate during AsicBoost's proof-of-concept and subsequent development.

As I said before, it is entirely unclear if Halong Mining is factoring what others spent when it says that "[a]round $30 million dollars have already been spent...." Maybe Halong Mining spent this money, maybe it didn't, we do not know. Halong Mining does not overtly state that Halong Mining itself has spent $30 million. That is my point. (I have noticed that Halong Mining has said nothing to clarify whether Halong Mining itself actually spent the $30 million it references on the front page of its web site.)

If I wanted my girlfriend to believe I worked out hard at the gym, but in reality, all I did was sit in the gym's hot tub drinking smoothies all night, I might say (in a Ron Burgundy voice), "Many sit-ups were done at the gym tonight." While that statement may technically be true, it doesn't mean I did any sit-ups at all. That statement is quite different from saying, "I did many sit-ups at the gym tonight." Think about it. People use the passive voice when they want to obscure. Halong Mining has clearly convinced some, including Sandal_Hat, that Halong Mining spent $30 million. I am not convinced, especially since they still aren't disclosing who they are, where they are incorporated, and how can we hold Halong Mining accountable in court if they deliver a miner that has design defects and burns down data centers. We also still don't know why "MyRig, Inc." doesn't show up in Colorado Secretary of State's records.

Before we lavish Halong Mining with praise and gratitude for the "success" of the DragonMint, let's wait for Halong Mining to actually deliver one... to a real, live person, with a real name, not a pseudonym with potentially a hidden agenda. And, by the way, let's get a DragonMint in the hands of someone qualified to analyze it and give us an unbiased, comprehensive review. Am I asking for too much?

Well, bitmain has flooded sha256 miners everywhere. Bitmain doesnt buy it clearly. They probably have an idea of how much dragon has spent and they are making it difficult for dragon to make that money back. Now, litecoin mining is more profitable than bitcoin mining. If u see the V9 thread, everyone is saying the V9 is new, not old products. It is possible that they created the cheaper V9 just to flood the market. This is speculation.
I mean u dont see a cheaper litecoin miner being released but u do see a cheaper sha256 V9 miner. (No one would want this to occur)

I hope dragon is smart and be more like baikal in future, that is, to focus on algos that does not compete with bitmain. It is better this way as dragon will be able to sell more miners and at the same time, the buyers do not get the same algo flooded by bitmain, a win-win situation. Although yes, apparently baikal released a monero miner and bitmain had that too... coincidentally. Bitmain probably had it for awhile, but just unreleased back then. It happens. It also makes u wonder if there is an S11 unreleased somewhere. And really no offense buddy but u are a new account and all your posts are in the halong thread. It doesnt make sense to mention the 30 million cost is incurred by others when it is your own product and it is mentioned to convince buyers that alot has been done to make the product. The previous and next sentences also mention the company and its efforts only. Also, that unicornflex fellow who claims 50-100 million sales is a new account with 1 post. I dont believe anyone will put big orders for an untested product and I am unsure how such info was discovered. I believe that is just marketing talk. Anyways, bitmain wants to compete and they compete fiercely. Hopefully, this goes well for all. Well, at least the dragon decred miner doesnt clash with another product.
Look at the current baikal-n. It clashed with bitmain and they released X3 which is better and the new x-3 batch is far cheaper than baikal-n. Unfortunately, monero will hard fork, so, it probably wont matter lol

Well, bitmain has flooded sha256 miners everywhere...

As much as it would hurt us miners, I have to disagree. I think it is imperative that Halong keep trying to break Bitmain's monopoly and SHA256D Asics become widespread. Profitability may be very VERY low, but at least the big guys would feel the pain as well.

Wat is the point of everyone feeling pain when u could have a case of unsatisfied customer service but alot of profits?
Overcapacity leads to wastage. All we will have is alot more money wasted on designing new asics, alot more power wasted by more asics, lesser profits for everyone and environment becoming dirtier (due to power generation by coals). It doesnt serve decentralization either because bitmain sells to everyone anyways.

I get the idea people dont like bitmain customer service but boohoo, competitors of bitmain are worse at it and in general, thats how customer service is in alot of chinese companies...

...

Dude, u can have your view and I can have mine. And there are others who share my view. Juz look at the marketplace and perhaps do some basic maths om holding bitcoin against mining bitcoin in the last 1 year. My last job was working in a trading house. I was there for a few years. Part if our team's job was to identify overcapacity/undersupplied markets and poasibly speculate on it.

I dunno where u live but my country has freedom of speech. U are quite insane to think anyone who hold opposite views cannot be heard.
Newsflash, there are also alot of people who are negative on mining, not just me. Go check the marketplace section on good deals on miners and go read about what happened to antminer D3 miners. They lost tons of money. The S9 will be like the D3 id an S11 comes out now, among other things.

Feel free to put me on ignore if u are one of those people who need to only hear the good stuff and u cant handle both sides of the coin. I am a miner myself. I was bullish and I bought miners. Thus, it is no fun for me when things turn bad. But facts r facts even if it sucks for me too.
