Please do your calculation for future Top 3 contender. India is way ahead of the pack at this point. Australia is the only team which stands a chance at overtaking India at this point in my opinion. Bottom teams are basically eliminated at this point except for Sri Lanka who played very few matches. My top 3 future contenders are India, Australia and New Zealand. I don't think England can beat these three since they almost screwed up the recent series with WI. Only 2 series left for India and i am bit worry about Australia's tour. Its not going to be easy for team India, OZ team is looking ridiculously strong due to Smith/Marnus Labuschagne.

Recap with reminder : 6 series for every team (3 Home + 3 Away) India : 2 series left - 4 games Vs Australia, Away - 5 game vs England, Home) Australia : 3 series left - 4 games Vs India, Home - 2 games vs Bangladesh, Away (postponed) - 3 games vs South Africa, Away England : 3 series left- 3 Test vs Pakistan, Home - 2 Tests vs Sri lanka, Away (postponed) - 5 Tests vs India, Away New Zealand : 3 series left- 2 Tests vs Bangladesh, Away - 2 Tests vs Pakistan, Home - 2 Tests vs WI, Home Pakistan : 4 series left- 3 Tests vs England, Away - 2 Tests vs New Zealand, Away - 2 Tests vs South Africa, Home - 2 Tests vs Bangladesh, Home ( Last i heard BCB -PCB duo were making mockery out of this series) Rest of the teams are in bad shape.... Please do your calculation for future Top 3 contender. This is pretty interesting infographic. India has played too many series and proved that they deserve to be called the best but still an away series with Australia would still be a real test of their skills I doubt India can win that series while home series with England might not pose much problems for them so despite of everything India might still end up on number one position after everything. But this is a good way of determining best team because each team has played each time both at home and away so gives fair results.

It's a close contest between the two as I mentioned. Just like Smith/Marnus, India has its own power pairs and the pandemic could cause some changes in how they perform as we observed with England recently against West Indies in the 1st test. But this is a good way of determining best team because each team has played each time both at home and away so gives fair results.
The final was supposed to happen in March 2021, but the pandemic has postponed many matches due to which the final might now take place at the end of 2021 after all teams played their respective matches.

In ideal world there should have been equal matches of series for all teams. Right now some teams are playing 2-3 match series and contesting for 120 points, on the other hand some teams are playing 4-5 match series and contesting for same amount of points, so WTC has some flow but again its comes down to money/ revenue making series and schedule. Its first World Test Championship so i am okay with it but i hope they keep reforming this idea or may be some tweaks in the near future. If Virat & co playing minimum 2-3 warm up matches with all sincerity then good sign for Team India otherwise things could go very wrong.

Yeah exactly India i believe never plays a less than 3 test series when it comes to big nations while I feel some countries do play 2 match series because test cricket isn't that developed in those countries and does not attract viewers. But If ICC goes deeper into this fixtures deciding role on how many matches will each country play, then national boards might have problem with it especially India/ Australia who have enough viewers and like things to be mandated as per their requirements so yes it's the best available scenario we have.

So you are assuming that England would lose the series against India very badly. Well... it is an overseas tour for them, and chances are that they will lose it. But with the current form of Stokes & Co., I don't think that they will go down without a fight. And if India is complacent, then who knows? We may witness a few upsets and England may get a boost in the points table.

England current team is not capable to give some tough time in India as they have few serious problems in batting and playing against spin bowlers in India is more troubled for them we can watch some good cricket but England will be here without any chance to win this series now they need some good batsmen for this all and this will take some good time.

We all can wait for the matches to start before speculating about team performance. It all ends in the ground, which teams win depends on their performance on that day. I still believe England is a weaker side if compare them with Australia, India and the NZ

India "had" some world class spin bowlers. But I am not sure whether that is the case now. Bowlers such as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who can't perform in overseas conditions can't be termed as world class players. Anyway, Ashwin is close to retirement age. India had world class spinners, such as Harbhajan Singh. But the current bunch (Ashwin, Kuldeep, Yuzvendra.etc) are not at the same level. Right now, the Indian pace lineup looks world class, but not the spinners.

I really want to see the stage set once again for an Indo-Pak encounter. I know it might hurt nationalist sentiments of many people but keeping that apart considering a cricket match it would be too entertaining and I doubt anyone can miss that. Also when many people compare Babar Azam with Virat Kohli a direct match between both these players as captain would be something really fantastic. England's player are little bit weak against spin bowler. and you know, India has some world class spin bowlers. Right now, the Indian pace lineup looks world class, but not the spinners. I think it's because of the recent dependence of India on there Chinaman bowlers. The recent concept of China man, unorthodox styles of bowling ended career of Ashwin and Jadeja who were actually performing pretty well. But India somehow following the new trend went to on with "Kul-Cha" duo for sometime and in the mean time these two big world class spinners Ashwin and Jadeja's career got deteriorated. Now the batsmen around the world are pretty comfortable with these unorthodox players because these bowlers don't have anything new to offer than their action and now team is suffering due to this.

I miss it but I feel that this rivalry is old history, now days media and fans fabricate this rivalry due to profit and emotions respectively. If we look at last 8-10 years contests between Indo-Pak then each and every game was one-sided (WC+Asia Cup+CT) including Champions trophy final was one sided which Pakistan won. This rivalry pressure is not there as far as Indian team is concern. We witnessed when India lost the CT final to Pak. There was disappointment but no one was angry at the Indian team or any individual player. Everyone was like okay, it happens sometime. In test series yeah that would be great, India is much better side than Pakistan in the Test format but still we can expect good fight when 2 Asian cricket powerhouse facing each other.

England will keep the winning combination for the first test match against Pakistan beginning on August 5th. This will surely be an interesting match to watch. Pakistan is a inconsistent team and with West Indies winning the first Test against England i hope Pakistan can give some resistance, i have not seen any Pakistan matches for a very long time and i am not aware of the team composition either and which batsman is their go to player and their bowlers are new and Wahab Riaz is back in the squad who is the only bowler i know.

^^ When playing red ball cricket Pakistan's record is not that bad in the English condition , at least they perform much better than other subcontinent teams. They always set up their long camps(practice match etc) in the England before any series, other subcontinent team especially Indians don't follow this formula seriously due to workload.

Eid Mubarak to all.. Pakistan is known for inconsistency but they are far better than West Indies. England have won the last test series against West Indies very easily so I assume they will be confident before the Pakistan match. I am not sure how Pakistan will perform but they will surely face tough resistance from the home team.

@JSRAW while in the past Pakistan may have been able to perform better in England because they used to arrive early like you said, but this time they have no match practice, and England player’s have already played a series and therefore they’ll be fitter and sharper than Pakistan’s player’s. Further I’ll once again wager some small bets on England to win the first test match and the series too, but I’m also interested to know if anyone here is taking a risk and wagering on Pakistan to win the first test match?.
