They' can't rely on the Rookie alone, they need someone who can be considered as one of the best players in the PBA and you are correct they need to overhaul and they can do that by maybe trading some of their players.

Rookie are sometime reliable, there are rookies who excel on their respective team and has become the main man, one of the best example is Jaymar Perez of Columbian DYIP, the team has become exciting to watch because of him, but unfortunately, their ranking is not that good yet as although the rookie has produce good record, he lacks some help from his teammates, especially from the veterans.

Beau Belga is not getting any younger too, he is already 33 years old and I don't see him as a special player with talent, he is good with defense but he can't literally stop centers bigger than him like JMF.

Why stop JMF alone? It's not about stopping those centers 100% but just play defense no matter what. And besides, he's the most defensive player in ROS lineup today so who will I mention aside from him? Cheesy

That's why there's a follow-up post on my statement about Belga which is hoping that one of their rookies might be improved someday or ROS might consider trading some of their players. Smiley

Not saying why to rely on Rookie alone. What I'm saying is, maybe someday one of them becomes a potential player that might carry them to top. Too early to say that those will not contribute to the team.

Remember that Gabe Norwood is their rookie before but look at how he contributed to the team overall.

I am just putting JMF as an example, hehe... but I would disagree with you that he is the most defensive player in the team, I believe it's Gabe Norwood, he is star stopper, and when he guards a player it will minimize the player's output, and Norwood is even good when international games where he is guarding more agile players.

SMB goal: 8 PH Cup titles, 8 MVP for June Mar

Quote
SAN Miguel is now the owner of five straight PBA Philippine Cup championships.

So 3 more wins, do you think SMB can do this? And it seems like they really like Fajardo to lead the Filipino cup as the 8 wins will also be equivalent to 8 MVP of Fajardo if they will make it.

If PBA resumes now, and No Fajardo, so probably they are not expecting their team would win.  Roll Eyes

SMB can do that they have high caliber player to help their run and theirs no doubt that Fajardo still can make it since he doesn't have a match yet, he's still the talest player on PBA and might he will get another chip when all filipino cup will open up, But since there's no fajardo around maybe it's bit difficult for them to run out but I think they can still make they their rooster is so deep so provably this is still a quite easy for them.

Fajardo is no doubt the best player in the PBA now, winning multiple MVP awards would already tell, there's nothing to debate.

However, when the conference will resume it's not expected that Fajardo will play since he is still recovering now from a serious injury.
He just recently walk IIRC.

This is the latest news I found . https://www.sunstar.com.ph/article/1856921

it says, "Fajardo will not play this season"... so obviously we can't expect him to play in the first conference of the season.

@Finestream, agree with that, this is the season where other team has a good chance of beating the SMB since their MVP is not available to play.
That's a whole season, and what I really hope is when he comes back, he will still come back strong like the usual JMF so that goal of 8 MVP will be achieve.

Eight consecutive All-Filipino title is mission impossible for the Beermen. They don't have Fajardo this season and that would be biggest reason, even if they have Fajardo active on the lineup they will still be having a hard time since Fajardo is not getting younger and the players also that compliment him were also getting older. Santos, for one will be on his 40's next year, he is one of the factor on their championship runs.

I'm a believer that no Fajardo no PH title for this coming three years for SMB while the eight MVP's target for Fajardo is ambitious but with a slim possibility though.

It's their big mistake on why they trade C. Stand, he could be a big help for the team to win since this guy is healthier and has a special talent in basketball too, we've seen his contribution in the times when he was still with playing with the SMB, now it's time for Tautua to let his presence felt.

Fajardo is still 30 years old, I think he still can, but on the health and durability, let's see because injuries starting to hit him already.

Let's give Moala Tautuaa a chance, his first game in the All Filipino cup was impressive.
He got double double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, and that is without Fajardo, so let's hope that he will be able to stay consistent all throughout the conference so he would be a big contribution to the team and people will not criticize him and praise c stand.

Fajardo is still 30 years old, I think he still can, but on the health and durability, let's see because injuries starting to hit him already.

Of course, that age, he can still perform his MVP performance but he needs to regain his confidence since he is coming from an injury, you know, mentally a player will be affected as they might think they'll be re injured again if they will be aggressive.

I saw that game, that was the only first and only game in the conference, and I lose my bet was I was expecting Magnolia will dominate the SMB since Fajardo was out, but SMB prove me wrong, they are still good and to my surprise, Tautuaa showed up and surprise the doubters like me.

30 years old is still young, he is still strong and he is the biggest in the PBA now, his height is his big advantage so he will still dominate the rebound and maybe points as well inside. He has a long rest while waiting for his injury to be fully healed, I know you guys are excited to see him, and for me, I hope he will still the same Fajardo when he comes back.

Age doesn't matter,  Smiley

actually we have to see if a player can still perform based on what is expected on him, if Fajardo can still deliver his MVP performance, then let's forget about how hold he is, a lot of players that is older than him, maybe not in PBA but they can still play with their full potential.

once again I like to repeat, its not about the age but the overall performance within the game.

Roll Eyes

I could say that the trade involving Cstand is not a mistake. It's a planned move made by the management because Cstand does not fit well with Fajardo and he is demanding a playing time and he don't want to be a reliever of Fajardo forever.

We have seen Mo's capability and i doubt that he could fill the big shoes left by Fajardo but on the other hand he is also a big help come playoff time, if they could secure one.

If they are not able to perform then yes one can be removed considering there is a better player available to fill the spot.

Some aging players can still perform but they can't perform the same way they are doing when they are still younger, however, the team will value them as they have the experience and they can influence the young ones in the team. Some players like Asi Taulava ang Reynel Hugnatan are both at the retirement age already, but they are still useful to their team, it's just that they will no longer player a long minutes due to their stamina is not the same when they were still younger.

In addition, we can also make Mark Caguioa as a good example, he was once a star player of his team, but now he only played limited minutes but he can still make a difference in his team, that's why they call him, "mark the spark".

Absolutely, he is a great example, at 40 years old he can still play and deliver, I noticed that if the starters of the Ginebra Gins are lacking energy, coach Tim Cone will try to experiment by putting him in the line up, and he never fail Tim Cone as he can be productive with his limited minutes.

Mark Caguiao is one of the players of Ginebra that got lot of fans and whenever he is injected on the court he always delivered thus sparking the crowd which is the biggest asset of the team. I just wonder though, when would this guy retire, so he could give his spot to young cagers.

Speaking of old and veteran players, Asi Taulava revealed that the player he got a hard time defending is not Junemar Fajardo, it's Dennis Espino. To some of us here that have seen Espino played, that guy is deceiving. He looks slow and yet he got the job done.

I'm seeing that as well as I never missed a Ginebra game since I am a ginebra fan too.
He doesn't need to play a lot of minutes but he can generate some points for his team, and that what matters most, it's the quality minutes a veteran can contribute to his team. I think this guy will soon retire, so we should be ready to accept it, his buddy Jayjay Helterbrand has already retired almost 3 years ago, he will be the next for sure.

I don't know about Dennis Espino, maybe those who are watching PBA a long time ago have seen him played, I just started to watch consistently like 5 years ago I guess.

Me either, but I agree with Asi that Fajardo is not hard to guard if you know how to do it, Fajardo is very predictable, I saw in some of his games where he was guarded by Greg Slaughter, his production was reduce, he just need to be guarded with a tall center, unfortunately, most of the PBA centers now are not as tall as him, so they need to double him and that opens up the good outside shooters of the PBA.

The strategy of the with Fajardo as the center can easily be predictable too, but no team has stop their system yet.

I agree, Fajardo's point production is not too much if guarded by Asi or Greg which is as tall as him or even taller. Unfortunately for Asi at the moment is that he can't guard Fajardo on the full minutes where Fajardo is on the floor. Asi is only good for 5 - 10 minutes a game this time in his career. SMB's offense run though Fajardo and if there is a guy that could guard Fajardo one on one then Beermeen would be having a hard time since no shooter would be open then but luckily for SMB that guy who can fully contain Fajardo is not yet drafted.

That's exactly what I saw as well, there are defenders where Fajardo struggle, I think Greg was really a good match for him, they both have good performance when they battle each other, but unfortunately, Greg is already out in the NBA.. but comparing Fajardo and Greg in overall performance, Fajardo is always the better player but sometimes even the best player in the league, they have a defender that they really hate.

And it might take long before that will happen, probably Fajardo would retire before someone as tall, big and smart as him will be drafted.
