I think Rafi Reavis will retire soon but he'll retire younger than Asi's age I guess.

I did a quick search on that Rafi Reavis goal:

Rafi Reavis wants to do a 'Jawo'

The article was posted last January 2018 and on that date, Reavis has a total of 664 games and needs at least four more seasons to catch up with Jaworski to surpassed the legend's 958 games.

But with the pandemic struck the country, instead of Reavis only need 1 more year after this season, he still needs 2 seasons. So to my computation, he will surpass Jaworski at the age of 45 if PBA will resume at least next year and if Reavis will play healthy each and every game. After that, he can now retire, and Asi is now around 50 years old on that date and can still push for 1 more season to surpass Jaworski's active playing age. Cheesy

I think it's hard to see a player surpass Jawo's record, why? Because the kind of play has already change, before, the game is played in a physical and slow pace, now, it's almost running and running and shooting outside, so when you are not getting younger, you will not anymore fit in this style.

So, at 50, can Asi and Reavis still run? I doubt that.

Correct. That's what I'm talking about. Smiley

Reavis won't play to 50 I think. As I said, he just wants to surpass Jawo's number of games played. I don't know his plan after.

And Asi has a chance to play at 50 if there's a team that will just put him on their roster list. He is now a bench warmer for several seasons. No need to play hard. Just like Jawo did, playing coach and not putting much time on the floor.

Well, Asi did it so I think that Reavis can do it too but at a limited time only. He is still one of the go-to guys of the Hotshots in terms or rebound since he is the tallest the team but I know that he can surpass Jawo's total playing games. He can still play at a limited time and he is healthy last season IIRC. Didn't get any injuries.

So, at 50, can Asi and Reavis still run? I doubt that.

His veteran experiences can still help the team where he will play (don't know though it he will still play in NLEX or they waived him already Cheesy) so even though he will not play too much, he can still be a big help to the team. I still remember one video that I've watched long ago and he said that he wants to retire in either SMB or Ginebra team.

Overall, I know both of them can surpass Jawo's records for sure though it has been delayed due to the pandemic.

Reavis is very important to the Magnolia Hotshots, his height really help the team in the inside, their center which is Sanggalang, I think Reavis is still taller. What I observed with the Magnolia Hotshots, they are using Reavis more starting in the elimination games, so he is not so exposed during regular games.

We can expect to see him continue playing with the team, they know how to value a player and their rotation make it easy for players as all of them are almost given a playing time, hence it will not burden the starters.

Don't hear any news regarding on him does he still an active player or retired already? I almost forgot his existence on the court since it's so rare for him to step on since he have so limited minutes which make sit more longer and I think this incident can affect him mentally. I also don't know if we can really on him especially if we talk about height since there ar so many tall players came out this days and provably he will be out played by them.

But I still give him credits for his contribution on magnolia since he's quite solid way back before.

I'm pretty surprise that Asi Taulave is still playing in the PBA, he was playing when I still in the elementary school. now its already 11 years since I graduated from college and he is still playing as a professional basket ball player in the PBA? I'm not really a fan of PBA because we don't have access to see their games and we don't have people here in our place talking about them but damn that's insane! I wonder if Mark Caguioa is still playing as well.

I wonder if Mark Caguioa is still playing as well.

Mark Caguioa is still actively playing in the league at 40 years old. Signed 1-year deal this season with the Brgy. Ginebra. But he is more taking a reserve role right now and as a fact, he just averaged 7 minutes per game last season.

Not bad for near retirement and still earning some money despite an average of 2.7PPG last season. Cheesy

As per his Coach Tim Cone, he sees MC47 to play for at least 2 years more before considering retirement. As you know in PBA, around 40 age is still not on a retirement period unlike in NBA where the late 30s is considering to retire.

We have a lot of oldies players in the PBA, in the NBA, I think there's no active player anymore with age 40 and up since Carter has already retired.
It's a different competition, NBA has bigger competition unlike the PBA.

Anyways, yes, we still have Caguioa which is a game changer, he doesn't need to play a lot of minutes but he can provide some spark just like his name, so maybe that's the reason why he is still with his team until now.

I think its because NBA really is on a different level, some of the players who are already old can't really keep up with the new young players. In PBA, some of them can still really play with the new players. NBA players who are retired even play in other leagues after their NBA career cause they are still good though when they are playing with a different league.

When it comes to rafi and Asi, I think it will be a challenge for them, they stop for months or even a year, so they lose time in achieving what Jawo did, they will age a year without playing. Let's hope they can play as soon as possible. Well it wasn't really an issue for me cause both are great players and they don't need to prove anything.

If indeed the Blackwater team will be sold, these are the top 5 potential buyers.

https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/potential-buyers-of-blackwater-s-pba-franchise-a2437-20200716-lfrm?ref=home_featured_4

1- Chooks-to-Go
2- SM
3- Hapee
4- Mighty Sports
5- SMC or MVP Group

Which group do you want to be in the PBA? Me, I don't want another team for SMC or MVP Group anymore, maybe I will choose SM as they are a big company and for sure they can get players with good talent as money would not be the problem for them.

SMC or MVP Group already had a lot of teams in the PBA.

SMC Teams

1- San Miguel Beerman
2- Ginebra San Miguel
3- Magnolia Hotshots

MVP group Teams

1- TNT
2- Meralco

I think that's already enough, if it will be acquired by SMC or  MVP Group, the PBA will become a big monopoly of teams, and it's not good in the eyes of the people as the word "rig" will never be eliminated.

1- Chooks-to-Go

Bounty Agro Ventures (the company behind Chooks-To-Go) has been involved in organizing the basketball league here in the country that started in just few years back.

The notable one is the 3-on-3 basketball league on which they accompanied the "Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)". They also organized a Slam Dunk contest that features some of the high flyers David Carlos, Jalen Green and Kobe Paras.

FIBA even recognized the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 as a Quest level competition which means that the winner of the Cup automatically qualifies for the FIBA 3x3 World Tour. So in terms of reputation, they are highly known.

I hope they are the next company who will acquired a team in PBA. My 2nd is SM Prime Holdings. No need for another SMC or MVP group.

Which group do you want to be in the PBA? Me, I don't want another team for SMC or MVP Group anymore, maybe I will choose SM as they are a big company and for sure they can get players with good talent as money would not be the problem for them.

A large company indeed is a need, surrounded by professionals and not a crybaby like BlackWater Team owner lol. I will choose SM Prime Holdings and Bounty Agro Ventures Inc.

Aside from both companies are big, they also showed interest before that they want to have a team in PBA.

But since pandemic, I'm sure these companies will not spend Php150M for now. BlackWater will not be sold and they will still part of the league once it resumes.

That's one of the problem, they might not spend, but I think for SM Php150M is just a small a mount as it's own by richest in the Philippines with US$17.2 billion net worth. A New Generation Of Tycoons Debut On 2019 Forbes Philippines Rich List

I also see this Chooks-to-Go, they are very active in supporting the sports of basketball in the Philippines, I think even in international competition if I am not mistake. Also, they will benefit more with the advertisement as they needed that compared to SM whom people already know they exist as they are very in the Philippines due to their SM Malls.

Sy siblings; US$17.2 billion

That's a lot of money, that's equivalent to "PHP 847,806,773,786.24", they can spend for PHP 150 million to buy the team if they want to, even more.

PBA, pro sports cleared to resume training as PSC-GAB-DOH order signed

Hopefully, next will be the PBA season resumption.

Indeed, this is the last step before the season will resume. I like it, finally the teams are already starting to practice and maybe by next month we might see the PBA resume its season again.  https://sports.inquirer.net/393364/pba-sets-august-deadline-to-decide-on-fate-of-45th-season

I read the article, and I was happy seeing the other picture which is Abueva had already started practicing with the team.

Here's the picture.

There's no news about Abueva returning in the PBA, but looking at the picture, it looks very positive that a statement might come soon that he can play again.

Don't be surprise, Calvin is already allowed to join the team's practice, he was cleared last year, so he has been practicing with the team already.

https://tv5.espn.com/basketball/pba/story/_/id/27698753/calvin-abueva-cleared-return-practice-phoenix

Quote
PBA commissioner Willie Marcial will allow Calvin Abueva to begin practicing with the Phoenix Fuel Masters beginning Thursday. Abueva is serving a suspension for a string of incidents including a June 2 on-court altercation with TNT import Terrence Jones.

The news was September 25, 2019

Practice and scrimmage resumption is the stage of the process of the PBA return so it's a welcome sight to see PBA resuming their training sessions. Now the resumption of the PBA games will largely defend on how discipline the players to follow the protocols set by the IATF. Hoping that that those violations last month won't happen again as they will pay stiffer fine.

Also hoping that Abueva will play on Phoenix season opener.
