But at least your S4 is safe from DD4BC?  After BMT's encounter with the ransom this year, I would assume that was put in for their own farm's protection, not ours.  Removing voltage control, well that was removed for our own protection  Roll Eyes They haven't learned yet that people cannot be saved from their own stupidity I suppose...

This is not true, and they can do well. They can put a limit on voltage control to 0725, and users cant exceed this limit, with only a few cgi commands on s4s web page.  THAT'S EASY, BUT THEY DONT DO! i heard a rumor bankrupt for bitmain company  Shocked , i dont know is this real or not but they have a financial situations and they are only 4 people left in their company  Huh another rumor is, bitmain chips BM1380-1382-1384 are not their chips, this chips are making in different company then bitmain labeled them.
eg. https://ehash.com/ , http://avalon-asic.com/ why avalon didnt bankrupt or down?
asicminer (http://www.cybtc.org/article-75-1.html) , cointerra,butterflylabs..down & spondoolies is sale, this is very very interesting...
So, we are in trouble dude. Cry

Lol if that is true that they arw going bankrupt its becuase they got too greedy and started their own farms instead just selling asics becuase you cant go wronf with turning over a profit for a pruduct unless people want there money back. Why would you say wr are in trouble. You dont think tht will reflect in bitcoin prices cuz i doubt that less miners means we are more important.

Hey do you know of any good mods that out for this. I know that nicehash has cgminer 4.9 available. I heard of a fan mod but seems dangerous and do know why people would want to lower fan speed would be nice to increase it to keep it cooler. A quiter fan would be nice but not at the cost of heat ruining the unit.

The best mod you can do on the S4 is replacing the PSU which is a ticking time bomb, 4 out of 7 of mine failed, and the only reason I still have 3 working PSUs is because I pulled them and replaced them with proper server grade PSUS before they died. (IBM DPS2000 [2000w] and IBM H-2880 [2880w])

The fan mod isn't dangerous IMO, and bitmain adding the feature officially (via --bitmain-homemode toggle) seems to support that. If you don't care about noise, then no need to run that way except perhaps to prolong fan life. Yes, the fans fail often also. I brought 2x S4s into my house to run in the basement to provide heat during the past winter, and slowing the fans down made that possible in my case. Don't think my woman would have tolerated the noise else-wise. You aren;t actually slowing the fans down, rather pushing back the temperature at which they ramp up. Seems to cause a ~5c increase in temps, which is fine and a good tradeoff IMO.

Hi everyone,

This may already be in this forum somewhere.  I was hoping someone might can save me some time to let me know if they have similar issues:

Anytime my power goes out [due to a storm] and comes back on, all of my S3's and SP20's come back on and continue mining.  However, my five (5) S4's do not come back on.  I have to physically turn them back on myself with the power button.  Does anyone else have this same issue?  Is there a way I can make them come back on when the power comes back on?

Thank you,

David

Yes, that's normal. The S4's power switch isn't a regular toggle switch like ATX PSUs. You'd need to rig something to keep the button depressed all the time. I know of a way, but I won't post it because it might not be safe considering the sometimes spectacular fashion these PSUs die. I don't want to be responsible for a fire.

How much of an issue is it really anyways? Does your power go out every week or something?

My apologies, sarcasm doesn't always show in my posts the way I intend it.  I also think bitmain's choice to remove voltage control was stupid, and the problem is with their choice of SHIT psu's, not people's  choice to under or over volt. I was making a joke about the fact that they won't give us any reasonable explanation as to why they removed it, when it is obviously due to their PSU's failing for other reasons.

As for them being bankrupt, I have no idea, and can't comment.  Anything is possible right now, weird things in the industry lately.

I was looking into the two psu's you recommended. (IBM DPS2000 [2000w] and IBM H-2880 [2880w]) niether of them see would be a perfect fit and the connections dont seem similar can you provide a link and if it needs new wires can you provide a link for that too.

No, they won't fit inside the S4. I don't know of any PSU that would be the same form factor as the original. You'd need to run them externally and route the wires in where the old PSU was, you need wires that are 36" long. For the DPS2000, look up sidehack's breakout board + wires. For the 2880w, look up Finksy & J4bberwock's breakout board + cables.

Which of those two PSUs you mentioned are the cheaper solution if you combine PSU + Board + cables?

Yes, my power goes out when it storms practically every time.  It has stormed a lot here lately.

If you only have 1 S4, probably the DP2000. If you have 2 S4s, you can run both of them off of 1 2880w.

Either way, I'd probably go with the 2880w.

Right now I have 4 S4 and just 1 of them has a bad PSU, but I am sure that in the future I'll have another PSU go out, so you are right, I'd rather get the 2880w parts.

I talked to someone a week or so ago when I first had issues, need to find that PM and order parts... just not had time to mess with it

If someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. I have a 4 S4's. Today one of then just stopped hashing. It still runs but just not doing any work, says o ghs on the led. I restart it and it gets up close to the 2TH and then slowly(over 10 mins) goes to 0 again. I updated the firmware, same thing happened. I leave these at work so its a pain in the ass to go there 3 times on a Saturday to reset them. I just got back the final time and as soon as I get home it say zero again. Please and thanks. Is this a symptom that I need a new PSU or is there something wrong with the miner. Thanks again

Sorry to say that one sounds like it is shot. If power stays connected and it reads zero sorry bud. Check if it is giving you x's on your monitor.

@ jds1119,

What pool are you using?  It could be the S4 or it could be the pool side or it could be the network restriction.

To test the PSU, please disconnect one of the four hashing PCBs from the PSU inside the S4.  If the unit remains powered on and continue to hash without any problems, then it could be the PSU being degraded and not able to produce enough power for 4 hashing PCB.

Can  you try hashing at KANO.IS to see if the miner stay connected and continue to hash? You can try BTCGUILD.COM as well as GHASH.IO. (Process of Elimination here... if the cause is on the pool end or not)

I use Mining Rig Rentals and through there I mainly use Antpool unless a hip new coin comes out. I have 3 other S4's running the same way: MRR then to Antpool. Today I reformatted a new SD Card and installed it into the miner. After I put it in my details the same thing happened, got up to 2TH and then went back down to 0. MRR shows the miner online but is not hashing. As far as people asking about it being at work, its a small buissness with me and someone else. They know I do this and its part of my compensation since the owner doesn't even pay for power. I have 3 other S4's there running fine and set up the same exact way along with my 5 scrypt machines. But I do appreciate everyone's help. I will look into your suggestions, thanks again and I may be talking to you soon

Please try with other pools and see if Antpool connection was the cause or not.

Thank you!
