1021  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 - Betting and Discussions on: August 30, 2023, 12:45:42 PM
The Philippines vs Italy match was the only competitive match yesterday, as most of the others were one-sided. I had some hope for Japan, but they went down against Australia by a big margin. And Angola put up a decent performance against Dominican Republic. The biggest mismatch will be played today, between the United States and Jordan. I would love to see the odds for this match, but at the same time I have respect for FIBA for allowing such minor teams to compete in the world cup. They want to expand the sport, and it is a good thing.

I lost my bet on the Philippines vs. Italy because I thought Italy would win by a huge landslide but it only won by 7 points which is not enough to cover the spreads. I did not even bother checking the USA vs. Jordan odds because it won't be profitable unless someone is trying to do the spreads which is also very unpredictable knowing the USA is already secured at the top spot even if they don't play seriously for as long they manage to win.

Currently watching Slovenia vs. Cape Verde. Luka Doncic and his team need to win in order to secure the top spot but it seems like they are getting tough opposition by Cape Verde. Luka is only 2 of 11 but I assume that they will start to figure it out here and will take the win.

That's pretty disappointing if Giannis packs his bags and join a superstar in another team. I mean he's already accomplished something only a few could achieve and doesn't seem to have a serious falling out with teammates or management. Yes he's demanding something to make the team more competitive before he extends contract but I think that's normal for any player with ambition.

His presence in the Bucks keeps the East exciting and competitive with Celtics and also the Heat.
You're leaning towards the loyalty of a player thus, you see this one as disappointing, eh?

There are certain players who value loyalty over championship, and there are some who value championship over loyalty. Giannis falls on the 2nd one, and there's nothing wrong with it. The perfect example with this is Durant back when the Thunder are up 3-1, and then they still lost to the Warriors. The next season they joined Steph, and Klay to build that OP team. What's the reason? To get a title, and Giannis is almost the same. If he feels that he can't a 2nd title in Milwaukee then what's the reason for him to stay there? He values titles more than loyalty.

Many superstars nowadays are different from the past. In the past, most of them stayed loyal to a team but most teams would trade them when they felt they were not in their primes anymore. And it was understandable since it was business as usual. Nowadays, some superstars not only want to get a ring by joining other superstars but they are also looking for better cities and places like Los Angeles, Florida, and the other big cities. There were even questions if Lebron could be compared to Jordan's greatness if he never left Cleveland. It's a fact that it is more difficult to get a ring by staying loyal to a team especially if the team is not that rich and the city is not that big nor has great weather or good places like white sand beaches. But it is also hard to judge these superstars choosing their preferred cities or joining a superteam because it's their own careers and lives to spend and at least they do not have regrets.

Giannis still has two more seasons before he can exercise his option to continue or leave or to extend. Before signing his super contract a few years ago, there were many teams that wanted to take him. IIRC the Miami Heat was one of those teams that were expecting to have a good chance of getting him. But at the end of the day, Giannis decided to stay in the smaller city of Milwaukee. Giannis delivered also a ring to the city so it could be that he also wants to play for another team or relocate to a better place.
1023  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How late is too late to place a bet for a gambler? on: August 29, 2023, 01:35:00 PM
OP are you a newbie in sportsbetting or you haven't tried it yet? Because I don't get why you mentioned if there are good platforms that cater to last-minute bets. As long as the game is not yet starting then most likely the odds remain available and unchanged Most platforms I used actually offer live betting. So there is no such thing as late unless someone is racing to get the odds before the game starts and is affecting the betting odds already.

Personally, I like to bet on live games as well until I get easily annoyed by the non-stop changing of odds and your bet having a hard time processing because of the changing odds. But for someone who has the patience and doesn't mind being distracted watching the game, it is actually good to bet live.
1024  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Casimero vs Oguni - October 12 on: August 29, 2023, 01:01:25 PM
If this is true, then he should aim for the knockout because obviously when won't be judged fair in this fight because of what he did in the fast throwing some trast talks to Inoue without thinking this time would happen when he goes to Japan to fight. Well, he already has a bunch of dirty fights on his list if it turns out that way, he knows what to do but I hope it won't be like when he fought the guy in Argentina where they lost their temper and started to throw things on him after he knocks out their guy.

The Japanese fans are probably not cool with Johneriel Casimero calling their living legend a turtle. But still, Casimero is the main attraction here. He is actually promoted by a Japanese since bolting out of MP Promotions. Oguni is just a stay-busy fight but we're hoping Casimero delivers a good performance to bolster his reputation. Though Oguni was a former world champion, he quit fighting for 3 years already and then went for a return last year which ended in a draw against a mediocre opponent. At present, Oguni has been inactive for over a year now and he is fighting an active 3-division champion so this should be an easy win for Casimero.

Some are bashing Casimero's level of opponent but I'm just happy that he is making himself active. I am confident he will get his title shot next year so he better stay active and fit.

It's great to see Casimero keeping himself busy with his second fight this year. Hopefully, there's another one in store before the year concludes. While I wasn't aware that his opponent is a former champion, a glance at his record doesn't make it seem as impressive as Casimero's. Let's wait and see. I'm hoping Casimero will persist in calling out Inoue during post-fight interviews. Of course, this assumes he emerges victorious in this contest; otherwise, challenging Inoue would seem premature if he can't defeat Oguni.

Yes, at least Casimero is staying active rather than just waiting for a big fight that might make him rusty if it takes so long. Yukinori Oguni became the champion a long time ago. In 2016 he outboxed then-dangerous KO artist Yonatan Pena and took the IBF belt. Too bad though as he lost it in his first title defense.

A December return for Casimero is still possible but only if he makes an easy work on Oguni. But if Casimero sustains some cuts and spends a lot of energy in this fight then he needs at least a month of rest plus two months to train so that makes him only available in January of next year. Hopefully, we'll see Casimero winning easily because this is only a tune-up fight for him.

I guess that will suffice instead of not having some fights this year to keep him warm while waiting for the big fight that he wanted. But I couldn't help but think why Oguni and not someone else in the Top 5 of WBC rankings because that is what he needed and not a tune-up fight-like just to stay active. This will surely not please people because Oguni is not that famous even if he was once an IBF champion.

Regardless, I'm also hoping just like you guys, that Casimero can finish this fight without having serious damages on his side so that he can have another fight somewhere in December or early January.

Johnreil Casimero is actually bashed a lot these days and one of the reasons behind it is the choice of his next opponent. This is only the second fight of Yukinori Oguni in 4 years and his last fight which was more than a year already ended in a draw against a mediocre opponent.

Prior to picking Oguni, there were two or three ranked fighters who challenged Casimero. One of them is former 118 champion Luis Nery who is ranked WBC #1, WBO #2, and IBF #7. Casimero at the moment is ranked WBO #3 and WBC #8. Maybe Casimero's team thinks that this type of fight deserves a belt which makes this a high risk with low reward. Besides, Nery is banned in Japan after being caught using illegal substances. And I doubt Casimero agrees to travel to Mexico which is also very risky IMO.

With regards to Casimero choosing a top 5 in the WBC rankings, I believe the target is becoming the WBO mandatory where he is more recognized just in case he is not getting the winner of Inoue-Tapales. WBO #1 Sam Goodman is already the IBF mandatory while Nery the WBO #2 has also won a WBC eliminator already so these guys are waiting for their shots at the titles. And it also means that Casimero is unofficially the real WBO #1 unless someone below overtakes his ranking. The WBA did not rank Casimero in their top 10 and it already mandated former champions Akhmadaliev and Kameda to fight with the winner being the mandatory.

The Philippines are facing a tough challenge against Italy. Despite being ranked as the top team in this group, Italy suffered a loss to the Dominican Republic. As a result, they now need a victory to secure their spot in the second round. This situation poses a significant challenge for the Philippines. From what I've gathered, the Philippines must win by at least 13 points to advance to the next round. Given these circumstances, it appears that Italy might have the upper hand and could secure an easy win, what are your thoughts?

Italy needed this win so they would not give the Philippines a breathing air in this game. I really want an upset although it might still not be enough for them to lead by 13 points. The best scenario here is Italy winning by more than 13 points. I expect a heavy blowout win by Italy as they are trying to get the second spot while at the same time trying to boost the team's confidence which is needed in the knockout stage.

I think Chot Reyes the Philippine coach for many years already should be ashamed and give up the job after this event. I remember when he mentioned that the most important during games is the learning experience. Yet most players he coached before are already retired or past prime and are not part of the national pool.

1027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When to invest in bitcoin on: August 29, 2023, 05:33:08 AM
If someone is planning to invest in bitcoin for long-term purposes then I guess the perfect time is when you already have the excess funds. Make a regular dollar-cost averaging (DCA) regularly. The problem with waiting for the price to dip is there is no assurance that bitcoin will drop again. What if bitcoin pumps and then the dip later is only half of the pumped price? This is actually happening since bitcoin touched $15k late last year. So it would be better to make a regular purchase without paying much attention to its price since the goal is long-term anyway. The price of bitcoin is still very far from its previous ATH of $67k.

I have been making a monthly DCA on bitcoin since December of last year. I am following the same strategy even if the $25k level is very tempting since I already purchased this month at $26k+. So my next chance to buy again is this coming September and I don't know if the price will be lower or higher than the current price right now. One thing is clear, I will continue my monthly DCA until bitcoin reaches $50k again.
1028  Economy / Economics / Re: Good and Bad at the same time - Mega entities hold $ 14 billions in Bitcoin on: August 29, 2023, 05:12:16 AM
Yes, a total of $14 billion bitcoin in just 3 exchanges is very huge. But then again, the market capitalization of bitcoin right now is more than $500 billion. So that $14 billion is like 2% of the current bitcoin valuation. These big exchanges may influence the price of bitcoin but probably only in the short term period.

This information tells us that the crypto market is still too young and low. The largest stock brokers in the world right now are the Vanguard Group and Charles Schwab with $8 trillion each while Fidelity Investments at #3 has $4.5 trillion.

1030  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing: Regis Prograis vs Devin Haney on: August 28, 2023, 12:19:56 PM
^^ Well you can read it here, Josh Taylor planning to move up in weight class after losing welterweight unbeaten record.

Quote
Josh Taylor spoke about moving up to welterweight imminently after suffering the first defeat of his career to Teofimo Lopez in New York on Saturday night.

The 32-year-old Scot started the defence of his WBO and Ring Magazine super-lightweight titles at The Theater at Madison Square Garden looking like he had the measure of his Brooklyn opponent.

He doesn't have to prove anything at 140 lbs already, he has unified the belt but after that he has been struggling to make that weight. So obviously, it's the right decision for him and his camp to move up in weight class. And in the past he also said that he has sparred Ugas, who is a big 147 lbs and it went find. So definitely, I believed that the next time he will fight, he will go up to welterweight.

As for the update on the fight, we haven't heard any, and if I remember it correctly, this fight is happening around October-November time-frame.

Yeah, Josh Taylor should've just moved up even before. So he ended up being injured again and inactive which benefitted Teofimo Lopez. For me, he looked like a fighter without motivation anymore. We'll see if he can still show something impressive in his 147 debut because I don't see the fire in him anymore.

As for this fight, I don't know what's the fuss on Haney wanting an earlier date. Why not just do it in the middle of November something to give Prograis enough time to prepare? Haney is still very young but he is becoming like a b1tch already trying to exploit his opponents. As if he is not boring to watch.

USA might be getting lucky with the wins right now but to be fair to them I do not see them winning the whole thing. They have built a team that could make some profit when the time comes but we have seen it not be all that better so the result is not really that good at this moment, the squad is not that great.

I think it is going to be very tough for them to get the win. Just like the last time out how they lost with Pop, they are going to probably do the same result again as well. It is just not possible for them to get this type of win without having their stars. I am sure one day some stars will do "redeem team" logic and build a big name squad, but until then they are not going to end up getting a good title at all.

Even before the start of the tournament, I am doubtful if the USA will win this tournament. I was tempted to make outright bets on France, Australia, and Canada.

With regards to the lineup of the USA, it is the trend that its biggest superstars are not paying attention to the FIBA World Cup. They're more interested in playing in the Olympics which makes that quadrennial event the biggest basketball event. The mighty USA has always dominated the basketball gold medals in every Olympics ever since I watched television. So it's only the upcoming younger players and the not-so-bigger names are given the chance to represent the USA during FIBA World Cups but they are always the favorites in the betting odds.

I'm not sure if it is known news or just hearsay, but I have yet to hear any news or information regarding Elon Musk actively selling Twitter (now rebranded as X). As far as I know and based on his recent tweets, he is still gathering opinions and making public statements about possible changes he will add to the platform, like removing the Block feature from the messaging section. If you can, please link any article or news you have read this about so we have a proper source unless this is a personal claim.

There is no truth behind OP's words. He's spamming probably to bolster his posts and activity. First, it's not Twitter anymore but X. I also haven't heard about Elon Musk actively selling X. It's also fake news that Elon removed all the former employees and replaced them with bots.

People are quick to call Elon's acquisition of Twitter a failure. I guess most of these people don't even know that Twitter was already a losing company before the takeover. So it's dumb for the new owner not to make huge changes otherwise the company will stay having a negative net income. I actually believe that Elon will turn X into a successful company soon.
1034  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Hypothetical Question on: August 28, 2023, 10:48:11 AM
So are you involved in fixed matches? Let's say you are directly in contact with the player or team, there is still no such thing as a 100% sure win. I heard about basketball-fixed matches in our local league here after a player made a confession. But there is still no 100% guarantee because not all of the players and coaches are part of the shameful acts. Fixed matchmaking is a little near 100% correct on individual sports since the player has 99% control over his own results.

If I have a $10k bankroll and I have direct connections with the player or the team itself then I'll go all in. But I will never take a loan or even withdraw all possible savings because educated bettors don't believe in a 100% sure win.
1035  Economy / Economics / Re: How to avoid over expenses and have discipline on: August 28, 2023, 10:26:59 AM
Or better yet, increase your means of income so you will never struggle if ever you have cross the limits in your budget.

That was exactly my point. I believe, a focus on increasing sources of income could really make a difference in someone's life, compared to just provision of basic needs. Because it motivates to change conditions for the better ones. While exceptional ensuring basic needs keeps you in the same place you were before without any movements ahead.

Increasing income is the most perfect solution for us to have a more comfortable life instead of just budgeting savings and limiting spending.  but it seems that very few people do this because most are lazy, do not want to work too much, so they always think of excessive savings plans for themselves.
Another thing can also be that finding part-time jobs is also very difficult nowadays because as we all know the economic situation is facing a lot of difficulties.  companies and businesses are constantly going bankrupt, so finding a day job is not easy.  therefore, the planning of spending and saving needs to be more focused.

Without a doubt, finding more sources of income is the ultimate way of improving someone's financial status. Maybe some of those so-called lazy people are not lazy after all and only need something to motivate themselves? Grin It's normal though since I know and heard a lot of people who are contented with their current situations and they are not even rich.

Anyways, as per OP's point, it is also very important to discipline ourselves when it comes to our expenses. Even if people are receiving high-income monthly but keep on living lavish lifestyles they will still end up without savings or even in debt which is also common in my country.
1036  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: August 27, 2023, 07:03:44 PM
CP3 "was" a top 10 PG, he is no longer there at all and there are plenty of other better point guards right now, the problem is that Kerr may have some problems on the long run if he keeps thinking that he could keep CP3 benched for too long, he is going to be forced to play him and the situation could be decent if curry was a good defender but he is not, he is pure offense type of guy.

What I think he means to do is to get Draymond and CP3 different minutes as much as he can, or even same times for short period of times, and get klay and curry running around and CP3 to find them open, he will be the ball arrier and pass guy, and then find people with open shots. That "may" work, but it is going to be tough to handle.

Against a team with deadly offensive guards, GSW will be forced to bench CP3. Actually, it is okay to bench him since he is already 38 and will be 40 by the end of his contract. The issue though is that CP3 will be paid $30 million per year which is too high for someone to play 20sh minutes per game, especially during the playoffs if they can qualify.

Anyway, it remains to be seen if this GSW experiment will work. I still value young Poole over CP3 but I understand that GSW needs to let go of him since they prefer Draymond.

I did not know KAT was Dominican, I thought he was American, interesting, I also did not expected to see Jordan Clarkson too, turns out he was from Philippines as well, I thought he was American too, so many players I thought to be American and turns out not from there and from another nation.

I think it was definitely a good close game, and losses happens it is not really a big deal to lose this game and I think it should be important to realize that we are not going to get that much of a big deal out of this, World Cup should be something to care about but unfortunately USA doesn't seem to care all that much, look at their roster, they do not bring in the best players, so lets see when they will lose out, because I bet that this team can't win it all.

It's not that they aren't American they are, but theor heritage lies from those countries.  Meaning they didn't grow up there (I don't think) it's that maybe their parents were from those countries.  I don't know what the rules are in terms of who can represent who but pretty sure if you were born in the US that doesn't dismiss the fact you can represent another country.

Yeah, both KAT and Clarkson are US-born with foreign heritage. I believe both are dual citizens but FIBA has a unique rule. If someone was born outside of his heritage country and only secured a passport from that country after his 16th birthday, he can longer play as a local. This is the case of Jordan Clarkson, but he is still playing in his heritage country since FIBA allows one naturalized player per country. KAT secured his DR passport before his 16th birthday so his heritage country can still pick another naturalized player for its team. Just like Timberwolves' Kyle Anderson who is of zero Chinese blood but was naturalized and granted citizenship by China. FIBA however does not allow a player who already represented a country before to shift to another country which means KAT cannot play in the US team.
1038  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Jerwin Ancajas vs Takuma Inoue - Nov 15 on: August 27, 2023, 05:50:14 PM
Jerwin's only accomplishment at bantamweight is beating a journeyman on a 5 fight losing streak, yet somehow ends up getting an opportunity to fight for a title. We see once again that it's all about being well connected if you want to be a champion. Ancajas is a limited fighter but this is not the strongest division and Inoue is a beatable fighter. At this point another setback would be devastating but if he can win it would be interesting to see him against Alexandro Santiago who defeated Donaire a month ago.

I guess of all the rank boxers in WBA organization, only the name of Ancajas rings a bell. And perhaps they think that is not going to be the #1 rank boxer in their division will have the first crack at the champion, maybe someone lower like in the 5-6 ranks and that fits Ancajas.

To early for this champions to have unification fight though, yeah it's mostly the trend, but maybe organizations wanted their champions to defend their belts first before they allow the other champions of the other divisions. Not saying that they are not corrupt, but I think for me, it's better to defend it first within their body and see how strong their champions are.

Takuma Inoue just won his belt and so far there is no mandatory from the WBA to force him to fight the number 1 ranked. So this is just a voluntary defense of Takuma's belt. I am not sure about the WBA's voluntary defense ruling but most likely it's fine for a champion to defend his belt for as long as the opponent is in the top 10 or maybe top 20 depending on the organization. Maybe Ancajas is the only available fighter easy to negotiate and is willing to travel to Japan.

Ancajas was also dominated twice in his last title fights. But Ancajas was a long-time champion and had issues with his weight before moving up so it was probably taken into consideration by the sanctioning bodies. Jerwin Ancajas' last opponent and only fight at the division lost his last 7 fights and only won a single fight in his last 10 but it was enough for the former champion to enter the top 10 in the WBA and IBF rankings.
1039  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Inoue vs Tapales for Unified Super Bantamweight Title - November on: August 27, 2023, 05:24:16 PM
I can see Tapales trying to set up counterhooks every time Inoue goes offensive. I have this feeling that a perfectly timed hook by Tapales is enough to hurt the Japanese champion and change the pace of the fight.

Did Fulton employ the same strategy? But look at what happened – he struggled to time Inoue's speed and was eventually overwhelmed, resulting in a knockout defeat. I don't foresee a significant difference with Tapales. On paper, Fulton appears to be the superior fighter compared to Tapales, but just like the Fulton fight, Inoue's victory seemed effortless. It's likely this upcoming fight won't be any different.

Fulton doesn't have hooks in his arsenal, at least that's how I see the fight between him and Inoue. He just want to counter with straight or uses his jab which could be wrong for a Inoue style because Inoue has the fastest hand between the two.

As for the strategy of Tapales who knows, in the first Inoue vs Donaire fight, Nonito enjoyed a advantage with his left hook, he even broke that orbital bone of Naoya. So if by chance and by surprise, Tapales has that kind of hook, whether left or right hand and has the timing of reading Inoue coming in, we might see some surprised here.

Nice observation. Fulton was there trying to outbox Inoue. Fulton thought he could be effective by being slick with his longer reach. What Fulton and most fans didn't anticipate was Inoue's underrated jab which was so effective and somehow it set the tempo of the fight. Fulton before facing Inoue has a 10-0-3 KOs in his last 10 fights.

We're not saying Tapales has a 50/50 chance because it's not. But Tapales has a totally different style from Fulton. People are misled by Tapales' only 19 KOs of his 37 wins but they don't notice that he is actually 9-1-8 KOs in his last 10 fights. If Inoue gets reckless, Tapales will make him pay with counter hooks.

For now, we can close the discussion about the share and proceed with the technical discussion related to the fight. Although, the majority thinks that Inoue has all the technical skills to take down Tapales, does anyone here really believe that he can upset the current monster of Japan?
To be honest, I don't believe an upset is likely to occur in this match. In my opinion, Tapales is more of a brawler; he's skilled with his counter punches. However, when facing an opponent as powerful and fast as Inoue, I doubt he will be able to match up effectively. No offense intended to Tapales' fans, but from my perspective, I see this as another potential KO victory for Inoue.

Right. It is really hard to imagine how Marlon Tapales winning against Naoya Inoue who's in his prime right now. Inoue seems to have the advantage in all aspects. He is the bigger puncher, with better hand speed and footwork. Inoue is most likely the stronger fighter although he doesn't brawl. The world-class experience also favors Inoue.

But still, we cannot count out Tapales. Although he only won a very close fight against former unified champion Morudjon Akhmadaliev, Tapales was a champion for a reason. Tapales is a 2 division world champion and has an underrated power. I can see Tapales trying to set up counterhooks every time Inoue goes offensive. I have this feeling that a perfectly timed hook by Tapales is enough to hurt the Japanese champion and change the pace of the fight.
