1982  Other / Off-topic / Re: Increase in cost of running the family on: November 25, 2022, 05:53:50 PM
I think, and this might be a hypothesis at most, that the cost of running a household and a family is inflated by the government and banks on purpose to keep everyone at a certain level of anxiety and panic about surviving. Just enough to make people work extra jobs/overtime and keeping the economy rising higher and higher, but not enough to drive people into madness and angry protest. Its good that the economy is higher each time because that increases the minimal life quality for each person but it takes more and more time away from us and gives us more stress. Both physical and fatigue of the mind.
1983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What could have Satoshi faced if he made himself known from the beginning on: November 25, 2022, 04:43:02 PM
Satoshi would have probably faced the same fate as anyone who tried to free the people from the dominance of the western worlds central banks... Middle eastern countries know this best. Its a war on who controls the money and people have been murdered for that cause by our own governments. Thats really what we need to get away from. And this is what Satoshi has provided us. Whether he would have been taken out in revenge or as a poor attempt to stop Bitcoin, I am sure that he would not have been left in peace from Uncle Sam.

"The root problem with conventional currency is all the trust that’s required to make it work. The central bank must be trusted not to debase the currency, but the history of fiat currencies is full of breaches of that trust.

Banks must be trusted to hold our money and transfer it electronically, but they lend it out in waves of credit bubbles with barely a fraction in reserve. We have to trust them with our privacy, trust them not to let identity thieves drain our accounts." - Satoshi Nakamoto

https://www.politico.com/newsletters/digital-future-daily/2022/11/22/harvard-paper-to-central-banks-buy-bitcoin-00070552

Even if the Banks bought all Bitcoin, what would be the purpose of that? To control/centralize Bitcoin? In that case, we would just move over to a different coin with the same Blockchain technology but with just a different name. That does not sound like a good strategy for banks, especially since they want to earn profits, not just hold everyones money and charge them for such stupid reasons. They want to earn money by doing nothing but making it seem like they did something of use, like provided a service which people actually need...
1985  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Will there ever be any safe centralised exchange ? on: November 25, 2022, 02:17:06 PM
I'd say the exchanges that currently remained to be unhacked are pretty "safe"; probably Binance and Coinbase. But that doesn't mean I'll recommend leaving funds on these platforms. The developers can make the platform as secure as possible, but never secure enough to the point that it's impossible to hack. Exploits will always be a risk. Not because these "unhacked" exchanges remained unhacked for years doesn't automatically mean it'll stay the same forever.

https://NotYourKeys.org

How do you explain these things to the people whom have entrusted their funds and assets to you for safe keeping hoping that what they gave to you is under safe care only to wake up to a sad news of their assets being stolen by hackers. How do you explain all these.
That's why you don't let other people entrust their funds to you. You have not much to gain but everything to lose.

I don't think Binance is exempted from being "unhacked". They've got hacked years ago.

Source: https://www.wired.com/story/hack-binance-cryptocurrency-exchange/

And also Coinbase: https://www.pcmag.com/news/coinbase-discloses-that-6000-customers-got-hacked-this-spring

It's clear that no exchange is safe for us to store funds until now even if it's the best in the world. It's possible that Binance and Coinbase may get hacked again in the future, as these hackers are also improving their skills to create backdoors. Just saying.

The way I see it, this is going to steer us away from third party wallets. Which is a big plus.

The very nature of Blockchain is to get as far as you can away from centralization as you can and to be your own bank. Why anyone would trust a single, imperfect entity (like an exchange) to hold on to your money for you, I will never understand. I do not want my money to be compromised by some fat scammer dude and his goblina girlfriend just because they got too greedy and their scam came to light. Thats the opposite of what Blockchain stands for (decentralization).

I can't believe thermodynamically-challenged people stuff the turkey straight before cooking and think that lower core temp will somehow deal with the gross raw meat bacteria soaked into the breading.

At the risk of sounding "thermodynamically challenged", I would always have assumed that stuffing a turkey or chicken prior to cooking wouldn't really have much of a negative effect, in terms of bacteria. Surely (and don't call me Shirley), if bacteria from the meat were to soak into the breading [sic], the bacteria would still end up being killed since the entire contents of the oven would then be spending several hours at 180C (or whatever).

However, I know little about this and would like to be enlightened for future (Christmas dinner) knowledge. I wouldn't like to poison anybody (unknowingly).

It will be soggy, unroasted stuffing (yuck) and worst case scenario: you did not adjust the temperature and cooking time in relation to the new, extra mass you shoved into the turkey and it may have not cooked enough to kill the bacteria soaked up by the breading as the bird will now take longer to heat up to a certain cooking temperature and since it cooks from outside to inside in an oven, it may not cook the middle (extra mass) in usual recipe time or at the right temperature for long enough.

And as our turkey chef, philipma1957 has told you in his post, the meat would be dry due to longer cooking and it would screw up the Turkey, if you adjusted the cooking time/temp.

Yeah I found out about the diabetes and make an entirely different stuffing use nuts, a special broccoli based chopped up soft taco. I cook turkey upside down breast on pan bottom.

Use a pint of beer in the pan. a ton of rosemary cover in tinfoil. cook at 235f for 12 hours.

turkey falls off the bone. Skin is soft strip all the skin. place it on the stuff and bake till crisp.

so basically all the turkey meat is kind of like pulled pork.

but both the white and dark is moist.

take all the bones boil them with a few quarts of chicken broth. strain and really good bone free broth.

so we eat a ton of turkey. toss rest in the broth and soup for a week.

lots of veg. all kinds.

but sauces are cream butter based not much sweet stuff.

That sounds amazing. Now I have to cook another bird with your recipe for Christmas. Putting that in my to-do list. Right now is a good time to mention I wish there was a favorites function for Bitcointalk posts.

1992  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Avoiding exchange flat rate withdrawal fee on Bitcoin when sending in Casino on: November 24, 2022, 11:56:24 AM
Why are you holding Bitcoin in your gambling wallet in the first place? Use a non-custodial wallet for that. Especially in cases with crypto casinos, strictly put money for gambling only and not for anything else. It isn't out of place for casinos to lock accounts sometimes, after all, so using it as a wallet seems kind of dumb. It isn't exactly too late to convert the Bitcoin you have that rose due to the bullrun to some other currency you can use for gambling AFTER it happens.

I agree 100%!

Holding your Bitcoin on a third party wallet is never a good move, if avoidable. A third party wallet can be an exchange or even a casino. It really does not matter which platform it is on as long as its not in your own wallet, its not really YOUR Bitcoin. Not Your Keys, Not Your Coins.

Although having said that, I do suppose the risk goes way way down of anything happening to your coins in a third partys wallet if the third party is reputable and has proven itself to be very trustworthy through the years.

My first thought will be: Oh great, now I can have a second chance to invest a decent amount of money for my future. I am glad. I should have taken the chance the first time but this is ok too.

My second thought would be: Because of the amazing crash down to 1k, Bitcoin will need years to recover to 20k again. Which is a bit disappointing for those who like seeing big numbers, but I am hodling for years anyway. And the profit in percentage from Bitcoin going from 1k to 20k will be greater than waiting for Bitcoin to go from 20k to 200k, (which I suspect will also take a few years at least).

The world is only getting crazier.

Hyperinflation, wars, supply chain issues, shortages

I know a decent percentage of the network runs on renewable energy, there's the blockstream satellite, keys are offline etc

How bad would it have to get to stop the chain & would that kill Bitcoin?

Personally I'm not worried, because if it gets that bad, money probably won't matter. Food, water & shelter will be more valuable.

I often speculate. I not a gloom & doomer - just a realist.

Interest to hear thoughts.

Would Bitcoin survive the apocalyse? Thats quite an easy question to answer. NO.

Why? Because without people, Bitcoin exists only until the networks, the servers, every single computer, every single harddrive and so on decomposes into rust and other stuff. Up until then it will be data stored as long as it can. But nobody will ever read that data again so basically, for all intents and purposes it will be dead. Just like the human race.

As long as people survive, so will Bitcoin. Everything else is a tad unrealistic and not worth thinking about, to be completely honest.

I totally agree with that assessment. I myself am very picky about where I play and which casinos I trust. Next time they should pick a trustworthy, provably audited casino with a long and outstanding reputation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK2zv1DjkAQ

in every broadcast of the fight, MMA experts the likes of Jon Anik and DC provides analysis of what happen and who they thought won the round while odds are also flashed sponsored by sportsbookie like Draftkings.  the video take a closer look at the relationship between gambling and combat sports to see what lies ahead for mixed martial arts while MMA sports becomes popular like boxing.

a lot of things said including the histoy how boxing and MMA started. i actually learn fighters, the team and even their family members are not allowed to bet on UFC bouts, i think was part of the code of conduct. because the general public now trust the system where there are no mafia or corruptions like rigged fights. will MMA have a gambling problem?

I see no problem with the MMA gambling connections.

I believe that the problem is not really gambling in of itself, but rather the problematic people it attracts. For example, as you have already mentioned, there is a lot of crime and corruption within gambling, and some shady casino owners do not mind capitalizing on that, as long as they can get some extra profit. Its in human nature to be greedy and everyone has their own varying degrees of greed. Shady people do not shy away from using addiction and even creating addiction in people.

But again, these are all outside problems. Anyone with a rotten mind and heart will be rotten, even if they were selling medicine or apples. It does not matter. That does not cast a bad light on the MMA in my eyes.

yeah we are good to go here maybe we never drop to 14.9k or less.

how will it affect anyone's decision to invest in crypto?

Proof of Reserves
Also known as Proof of Funds, Proof-of-reserves is a way to allow customers to monitor the balances of an exchange.1

This is an important step for the exchanges in order to keep their customers ' and investors' faith alive in crypto. This will make lots of things transparent about many crypto exchanges and will also weed out various bad actors who had been hiding their deeds since long time.

What is your take on this as an investor in crypto?
Will it add any impact on your decision to get into crypto or stay away from it?

1. Source

I think the exchanges are desperate to keep their clients during such turbulent time during which people are becoming less and less trusting of centralized exchanges. So obviously, nobody will really trust in this new "proof of reserves" marketing PR coming from the exchanges. If they want to screw people over, they will. And it does not matter how much good-will PR they post on their social medias.

Its time to step away from CEXes and just let them die. They undermine everything crypto (and especially Bitcoin) stands for.

I went all in on Argentina thinking their match against Saudi Arabia would be an easy win for them, and the fact that the odds were so far away against Saudi Arabia winning while it was in huge favor of Argentina caused me to be so sure that Argentina was going to win the match, and then, I went all in, hoping to make some big wins just like yesterday, but now, everything is gone, in just a twinkle of an eye...
Argentina is a big disappointment, It's still hard to believe, I quit betting until I am able to forget this experience entirely.

I know what you mean. Nobody expected Saudi Arabia to gain the upper hand over Argentina. But moments like these do happen, rarely, but they do happen. Just like when Germany scored 7 goals against Brasil. You would have thought that there was no way Brasil would have been such an easy win, but it was one.
