901  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: November 04, 2023, 08:10:53 AM
~snip~
Mackenzie McDonald managed to win the match by scoring points in the second and third sets quite absolutely, even though in the first set he lost to Jeffrey John Wolf without any heated competition, but in the next set Mackenzie McDonald really looked aggressive.
I thought Mackenzie McDonald would lose this match but it turned out that that assumption was wrong and he proved that losing in the first set was just gift for Jeffrey John Wolf because after that there was no mercy for him.

Tomorrow Mackenzie McDonald will compete against Jannik Sinner who is one of the great young tennis players who has even been ranked as one of the top 8 players in the ATP.
From this match it looks like Mackenzie McDonald will experience difficulties.

Even though Jannik Sinner is the seed in this match, it is also possible that he will lose because there are quite a lot of cases where the seeded player actually loses to player ranked below him.

IMO I dont think Sinner is going to lose today, I think he is mentally strong ATM because
he is performing well and getting the results, he is up to world ranking #4.

The odds for today are Sinner 1.08 - 7.0 McDonald

The interesting match of the day is Tsitsipas v Felix AA the odds are even enough because
of Felix' tournament win at Basel.

Jannik Sinner greatness is no longer in doubt and he won the match but only by very narrow point difference in three sets of games.
It true that now he has risen in rank and is in 4th place all of this achievement is thanks to his hard work who always tries to win every match.

Previously, I said that it was possible that Jannik Sinner would lose because in previous cases several top tennis players actually lost to players who were still far below him.
And in every sporting event there will be surprises, I think you can understand what I am saying.

Tsitsipas won the match and so far Tsitsipas can still be relied on as a favorite.

I can understand what you say about top players losing to lower ranked players but
on this recent case Sinner technically wasnt beaten, he forfeit the match to de Minaur.

Todays semi finals are:

Dimitrov v Tsitsipas - I wouldnt bet on this one, Dimitrov could well beat Tsitsipas
but also Tsitsipas could actually make it to the final.

Djokovic v Rublev - I cant see Djokovic losing this and either playing Tsitsipas or Dimitrov
in the final will mean he will beat either of the two.
902  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you rather make your investments in FAIT or CRYPTO? on: November 03, 2023, 08:58:57 PM
The crypto market has an high level of volatility, anyone who is about to make an investment need to have a good understanding of the volatile market. Now the question is even with the volatility will you still choose crypto over fiat when it comes to making investments?

If by crypto you mean Bitcoin then YES but if you mean altcoins then NO. I'll rather stick with fiats as they have more security then altcoins. Atleast I know my investment (with fiats) won't just vanish one day. You can be rich in altcoins this very moment and the next thing you know, you're broke again due to the project founder performing an exit scam on we (the investors) or the market crashing and the project loses all the hype and momentum that the price can't recover again. Altcoin Investment aren't recommended as they're pure gamble and not investments.

On the other hand my investment will be preferred in Bitcoin than fiats because fiats investment get devalued over time that even when you make profits, you are still at lost due to the inflation of your local fiats. My country currency (Naira) is one of the worst out there that it's nightmare investing with it. As you're investing in Bitcoin, you don't need to bother about the volatile nature of the market as it doesn't concern you, you aren't trading so you have nothing to do with the market until you have gotten to your investment target and you need to exit the market then you sell.

Irrespective of the direction that the market takes, when you don't sell, you don't lose so just keep holding through all the volatility and you'll be fine at the end.

I agree with all the points made by Brainboss, we have to separate Bitcoin from Crypto,
technically Bitcoin is the original "Cryptocurrency" but crypto has become a general
term for $hitcoins. Investments can be crypto, FIAT or Bitcoin.

Bitcoin trumps both of the other options. $hitcoins are wildly unpredictable and FIAT
is in a constant state of devaluation.

If anyone is concerned about the "volatility" of Bitcoin they are too short sighted, you need
to have a long term outlook and volatility will disappear.

904  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: November 03, 2023, 05:25:36 PM
lots of news today in Italian newspapers reporting Sinner's retirement from Paris.
there is no doubt that this game schedule can clearly disadvantage some players, but it seems that ATP has no intention of doing anything about it...

Yea there is a lot of talk about the scheduling of the matches and the fact that Sinner v
McDonald had to play so late.

TBH Sinner is probably my favourite player ATM but is withdrawal of the match with de Minaur
is a bit sour. As McDonald said he would have loved to play against de Minaur himself and
it was late for both players.

XRP wont get any interest on this board, its the opposite of Bitcoin and can be lumped into
the same group as Bitcoin SV.

907  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for November on: November 02, 2023, 02:24:43 PM
Yea I'm not getting into numbers but I voted for the Bull too!

I'm basing this purely on the 6 month window before the halving and thats what November is.
There has always been a Bull run leading up to the halving and I cant see it not happening again,
ATM with the buzz about a spot ETF floating about its a time of positivity eventhough we dont
know the outcome of any ETF.

908  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buying at 35k? on: November 02, 2023, 02:20:28 PM
When buying Bitcoin you really need to have at least a medium term outlook if its purely
return of investment you are after.

As per the OP buying at $31k and rejoicing at $35k that there is profit, give it another 2
weeks and the OP could very well be crying.

If you have a long term outlook $31k > $35k > $29k is nothing.

Buying at $35k - why not, again in the long term it will be a distant memory and we will
be ruing the day we didnt buy more at $35k

Buy and Relax!!
909  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ETFs and the 401(k) Dilemma on: November 02, 2023, 02:02:24 PM
YOLO season has already passed, now you must wait until the price drops back down below $30K before you take risks with large amount of savings, since your investment will most likely be underwater until at least 2025.
~snip~

Do you think that the price of BTC will not at least double by the end of 2024 considering the halving and the possible approval of the spot BTC ETF in the US? The difference between $30k and $35k is not that big, and even if someone has to wait until the end of 2025 to make a significant profit, I think that a little more than 2 years is not too long even for those who are less patient.

Of course, I still think that such an investment is a risky move considering where the money for it comes from.

exactly, even at $35k where else could you double that in 2 years? - nowhere.

In my country most people avail of a "State Pension" but cannot access it until
aged 67. Others have private pensions and these are designed to be paid into
for a long time to avail of when you are elderly.

"Investing" in Bitcoin can be as short as 4 years in order to make a good profit.

Personally I wouldnt invest in an ETF when I can just buy Bitcoin directly myself.

I dont have any FIAT based investments other than my property. FIAT is devaluing,
why would I squirrel away funds regularly into FIAT?
910  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: November 02, 2023, 10:43:59 AM
Yes a few surprises so far but there are still some "usual suspects" present in the round of 16
notably, Sinner, Rublev, Zverev and Tsitsipas and to a lesser extent but still notable is Dimitrov
and Hurkacz.

Currently Bublik is playing Dimitrov - it seems Bublik is playing well again, this one could go
either way...

Tsitsipas plays Zverev later and this definitely could go either way

Sinner plays de Minaur later too - Sinner is favourite at 1.35 which I agree with, he should win
this one but could be tricky enough too over 3 sets.
911  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Exclusive from now on. on: November 01, 2023, 10:17:29 PM
Interesting move Polymerbit, I think all the notes I have are Bitcoin only...I will have to check later.

snip

Thank you! I'm quite excited for the chapters ahead. We are stating to focus on larger artworks and certificates as well.

Can't wait to make notes that are displayed Smiley

this sounds very interesting and exciting, thats called diversification!

Shitcoins don't stand a chance against the king: Bitcoin.

I still think there is room for Litecoin and Monero themed notes, everything else I agree is $hit
912  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: November 01, 2023, 05:17:00 PM
In some cases the "Video ref" isnt even on the grounds! they can operate remotely and
still be in contact with the on field ref!

Rugby Union - URC

Round 3 kicks off on Friday with Glasgow Warriors at home to the visitors DHL Stormers,
tough 3rd match for the Warriors IMO but they are favourites @ 1.37, Stormers are 3.0,
I wonder if they have a full strength team after SA winning the RWC? Thats a tempting bet
to go with the Stormers @ 3.0

Connacht play home rivals Ulster on Saturday. Connacht at home are slight favourites
at 1.75.

The other 2 Irish sides, Leinster and Munster are massive favourites ao no point doing an
ML on them.
913  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: November 01, 2023, 08:09:29 AM

ATP Paris Masters, I'm sure no one expected Carlos Alcaraz to defeat Roman Safiulin even if it happened in two straight sets, I was behind watching this match but seeing Alcaraz lose to the qualifier was quite surprising and he has to throw away his dream of taking over the 1st ranking from Djokovic because he stated his target closed this year is to become the number 1st ranking player, and his defeat reduces one competitor for Djokovic in this tournament.
It is also quite surprising to see Djokovic play doubles with his compatriot Miomir Kecmanović because it is a rare thing that Djokovic wants to play doubles in an important Masters tournament because he usually only focuses on singles.

Surprising alright to see Alcaraz going out of the tournament in round 2. Maybe
he underestimated Safiullin or maybe he wasnt mentally ready.

Djokovic playing doubles is actually not that surprising, he has done it a few times this year,
I think he uses the doubles as another way to prepare for the singles matches.

I'm not really acquainted with the Tennis League but I'm quite familiar with the names and scores of these players. Jeffrey John Wolf versus Mackenzie McDonald, a fierce competition and only the best will take the lead by accumulating higher points. Watching two inconsistent players meeting each other, who would you place a wager on? Probably its our entire choice to make whatever decisions and thoroughly selects our player with full confidence. They both have their weaknesses and strong spot, it's left for them to employed good tactics among each other.

914  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Happy Birthday, Bitcoin! Understanding the bitcoin whitepaper with Jameson Lopp on: October 31, 2023, 02:45:11 PM
There is another thread which was open just after this one and is getting a bit more activity
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5472323.0

I think most people put more emphasis on the Genesis Block from 03/01/2009 and so the
celebration is focussed around early January every year.

The Bitcoin Whitepaper was a BIG announcement to whoever listened in October 2008. Its
still interesting to read it today.

Thank you to _act_ for the link, its a very interesting questionaire and is very relevant to some
questions which have popped up on the forum over the last while - for example:

Quote
Q: Has your view of the whitepaper changed over time?

Jameson: The only thing that I think has really changed is my view of how little of the system the whitepaper
actually describes. It’s far from comprehensive. Bitcoin, as a protocol on a network and a whole ecosystem,
has grown far beyond the scope of the experiment that it was in 2008
....
915  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: October 31, 2023, 11:59:58 AM
During the Grand Final I was watching with interest the video referees who had a pannel In front of them with a wide variety of camera angles. At one point, one of the operators used their fingers to zoom in in the game play frozen in their monitor as a person would do in their camera phone.

I've no doubt the camera clarity for broadcast is that much better (and it would want to be with a global audience watching on).

Yes its a great system, but I thought for a lot of the matches where there was room or need for the video ref
to get involved they didnt, eventhough we were shown replays of a particular incident in question.

Anyway the idea is also that the game play is speed up with no need for extended deliberation on the field,
the decision can be made fairly quickly and play resumes. Overall its a good system.
916  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: LastPass hack - move your crypto assets to a more secure place right now! on: October 31, 2023, 07:32:28 AM
✂️
So LastPass is that password manager where you can store all your passwords and stuff securely online.
✂️

Can you imagine logging in one day and seeing your entire crypto portfolio gone?!

✂️

It certainly does keep happening, I cant believe that firstly someone or a group of
people would offer this service and secondly that other people would actually
use it and put  100% faith into a platform just because they said it was a secure
way to store your info and out of laziness.

I wonder if those people who got hacked had a face palm moment when they realised
the error they made in not taking full control of their info.
917  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] RUGBY WORLD CUP - sweep - 0.000735 to join on: October 30, 2023, 10:50:51 PM

So.... we just see the MOST lucky champion in the history of Rugby World Cup?.

They win by one point in QF.
They win by one point in SF.
They win by one point in the final.

...and the only team that beat them was Ireland!

For me New Zealand deserve to be the champion, they played way better with one men less, and they missed two chances with the foot. GG For me the red card was TOO MUCH in a final in the frist half, you cant blow that as a red card.

I disagree, IMO the scoreboard reflects the performance of both teams, SA were only
marginally better than NZ. NZ had some very good attacking play but they also
made a lot of errors due to the SA defence and ferocity in the tackles.

The RED card decision was correct, its something the officials have been cracking
down on -head contact-

If NZ had been at full 15 man strength they probably would have won though.

Yes we can have diferent point of views clearly and i understand what yous aid and i also agree in some with you, in high performance sports a nail or a hair can make the diference between being champion and not.

About Ireland yes really sad, it was one of the better team by far.

For example right here, for me the NZ player doesnt have bad faith in  his tackle and was a fast play, you are not thinking about damage or injury the other player and also you dont fully understand the play. Different is for example when in a kick a player knowing he is being late charge with so much force and damage the other player.

I agree with you, it happens so fast, half a second, but thats sport and sport gambling,
the game and result can be determined and changed by a split decision, a mis tackle, or
a momentary loss in discipline.

With Rugby being a simple game with a fair amount of rules the officials are very much
on top of the play so all infringements and errors are caught and dealth with.
918  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 30, 2023, 05:54:32 PM
Sinner has definitely improved this year and noticeably in the second half, he just
might pull off the win and is worth a 2.15 bet.

Congratulations to the win.
But his record in the first half of the year is not that bad. He had difficulties with the tournaments on clay and the first ones on grass. His successes came back in Wimbledon.
By the way, Sinner lost the last tournament on hard surfaces against Medvedev in Miami...

----------------------

A mention for Felix AA who won the Swiss indoor tournament at Basel beating
Hurkcaz. I wasnt following this tournament but I am delighted for Felix.

That is truly remarkable. Last year he also won in Basel. After that he did not win a tournament at the ATP Tour. It is great that he won a tournament again after such a long time. Hopefully it will not be the same again from now on for him after he won in Basel last year.

Thank you!

Basel is Felix' lucky tournament. Hopefully he can grow his development for next season
and hopefully win some more tournaments.

The Paris masters are now happening and both Sonner and Medvedev play tomorrow,
but not against each other.

I believe Murray totally lost his composure and smashed his racket after losing against
de Minaur in 3 sets.

Two other interesting results in their own way from today:

Davidovic Fokina beat Shelton
and
Bublik beat Tiafoe
919  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 30, 2023, 08:39:31 AM
...and so it comes to pass, another final against Medvedev and Sinner. Both players won their
matches yesterday in 2 sets but in fairness they were hard fought battles with tie breaks for both.

So for todays final the odds are close: Medvedev 1.71 v 2.15 Sinner.

Sinner has definitely improved this year and noticeably in the second half, he just
might pull off the win and is worth a 2.15 bet.
Sinner had won the match against Medvedev 79-67 4-6 6-3 which is real fight. The win of the first set through the tie breaker have made it a winning match for him. With the Vienna title win once again he makes himself a strong contender against Medvedev. Earlier in this month he won against him in the Beijing final. Medvedev at the presentation had mentioned it a tough match and both had met in four tour level finals this year and stands 2-2.

Yes great win by Jannik, he is playing really well lately. His H2H so far with Medvedev is 2 - 6.

I think that will improve with time, both players have beaten each other this year twice
each and I feel while Sinner is improving his game Medvedev has stayed at his current
level for a while now.

A mention for Felix AA who won the Swiss indoor tournament at Basel beating
Hurkcaz. I wasnt following this tournament but I am delighted for Felix.
