Yeah, if it is senior they're going to come back and ask for more of whatever payment they want. It is really depressing as I heard that some would even claim to be a police  and would charge these people due to a non-existent charges that were done against them.  Some would also claim to be an IRS.
Most common method used by scammers to older people is the tech support scam for obvious reasons and yeah it still happens until this day.
1562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Man lost everything to Crypto on: January 21, 2022, 06:47:29 PM
Well reading the article, I kind of having a mixed feelings about the guy as there were a lot of factors. Good thing he's still working his way out of addiction through rehab though, but surely the scars of losing that amount will surely remain. Wishing the guy the best though.
Crypto isn't just for everyone and that's for sure.
1563  Economy / Speculation / Re: Market sentiments ? on: January 21, 2022, 06:17:25 PM
Meh, just the right time for me to buy now and I am going to call it tonight.
Like pooya87 mentioned, it's not all about the raw numbers and even by looking at raw numbers, it isn't that really that low considering that Bitcoin already dipped around this price just by somewhere around 2021 if I can still recall correctly.

In addition, don't go into crypto trading if you don't have the set skills for it. While at it, invest only cash you can afford to lose.
I've been from crypto trading and it wasn't just working right for me. I wouldn't call that I didn't have the set of skills, maybe just that my time doesn't work for trading and some might need to consider this in addition of what was asked by the OP to not get f'ed in every means possible (assuming s/he is still reading this thread as a Guest user due to inactivity).
I had learned some TA tools like the Bollinger Band and RSI, but it wasn't just enough.

These people would do anything to steal some money from you.  This might be outside crypto and I just want to share it for awareness, but some would even attempt to do such "refund scam" to you claiming that they refunded too much money from you after you revoke whatever non-existent service that they're claiming that you bought and they would want you to pay that "extra money" through gift cards and oh boy, if they heard that you're holding crypto, they would call you again with another spoofed number claiming that they're from whatever support of custodial wallet you're holding your cryptos.

Alrighty, I am a bit guilty of this. I somehow learned back then that Bitcoin was indeed a cryptocurrency but my running thought in those days was that it was only used by criminals the in dark web. That was my only knowledge about Bitcoin back then making me shrugging it off and refusing to learn more about it. I could've bought a little bit when I just cleared up my misconception.
I can imagine that friend of yours reacting to the price right now even before the ATH of 60k.

Just don't overcomplicate your research, OP. Check each dev's LinkedIn profile and also their Github repos. If the project repo doesn't seem to have a lot of activity nor update, I would call that a red flag as a poor maintenance or debugging of whatever project is being developed.
Either way it is still going to depend if those people would really make your money worth or just do an exit scam. These tips are just minimizing the risk of losing your money, but not entirely eliminating it.

Well as what others mentioned in this thread, it is not all about the ranks that tells about the number of knowledge, OP. One can be Legendary, but could be just a really good trader and the one that gives trading tips around here and never get into techy stuffs.
There is no such thing as "time" that will take for one to accomplish "milestones" as everyone has their own pacing in here.
Just join the discussion around here and don't overcomplicate stuff about being "successful" in a forum.

What year was that? Kind of curious. This coin never made it into my knowledge until it just got mentioned along with Musk a couple of months ago. 4M of a certain coin is something even if it was just something worth cents back then... well at least here in my country since the dollar exchange is quite high.

Even top coins tend to change a lot if you were observing CMC a lot and I can even recall someone here getting a snapshot of CMC back in older years. It is just insane how even below top 5 could just change within few years.
I never held any altcoins except for Ethereum, but I literally sold it all for bitcoin now since I have trust issues with the altcoins right now especially back when I attempted to hold some tokens from the bounty I tried to dip my toes into.
1571  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pay with Bitcoin on: January 19, 2022, 03:57:04 PM

I pay my bills with the use of third party app. Though it is still a bit indirect way of paying my bills since it doesn't involve p2p transaction and sometimes I still need to convert my Bitcoins to my local currency which is PHP, we're surely a little bit step ahead in ways to directly paying one.
I am a bit interested in developing some QR code method of doing transactions with Bitcoin though.

Adding up to this, report to whatever hosting site they're using. I reported one of the sites that tried to bait my wallet as they know that I was using MEW wallet file which is the most unsecured way of holding tokens.  Usually they're going to use shared hosting sites like 000webhost as it is free and anyone could just take advantage of the free tier.

I might be away from the internet when I have that certain amount actually. Maybe living in my own island and just enjoy for the rest of my life. In this scenario, it surely is the person that sent that amount of BTC. As much as I would like to hear the reasoning of the person behind that amount s/he sent, I guess it's unlikely that we're going to get any single word. This is just going to be one of those scenario back in the days where there were Youtube livestream of fake Binance giveaway where they just use an old footage of whatever podcast they can stumble upon and play that video in a loop making it a legitimate livestream.

Quite hearing this a lot in many news articles with a title of "Bitcoin fell x%, whales s0lD it @ll". From that, I can see many people that haven't bought their first Bitcoin yet thought that Bitcoin is all about the whales.
We wouldn't had call it volatile in the first place if it is truly dictated by these so-called whales. They do exist, but it doesn't go further away from the definition that they're just holding a large amount of Bitcoin.
1575  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin User Loses Record $1.1M on: January 18, 2022, 06:18:04 PM
Going in more detail, it seemed like it came from a live video in Youtube. I recently read this post in Reddit like few hours ago and a discussion in Reddit mentioned that the address of the scammer now contains a total of 87 BTC. Holy crap. Imagine holding that amount!
Here in my country, that certain amount is more than enough for retirement lol.

CMC already stated that:
Quote
It appears that this asset can now be traded freely on various exchanges. The project is now ostensibly run by the community after the initial rugging allegations. Please do your own due diligence. This project, while clearly inspired by the Netflix show of the same name, is NOT affiliated with the official IP.
With that notice alone, I am not sure who will still take chances to buy in this shittoken in the market. Even if it was still an allegation of the rugging, it's already a red flag for me to not ever touch this coin ever again.
This is just the same as those people that created Corona coin back when the pandemic still in its early stages.

It won't hurt to have half of the supply of any meme coins out there, but remember that one day people would just dump it off and the time that you're looking into selling it is way too late. Unless you're not a long-term hodler, I wouldn't even try to buy at least a single coin regardless.
Meme coin == meme coin at the end of the day.
1578  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do people overestimate BTC? on: January 16, 2022, 06:23:00 PM

Starting this year, it could be. Who knows, OP? 100k is what everyone has dreamed of since last year and that is fine even if we don't manage to pull it off if it means to get away with any shitcoins in the altcoin sea.
It's not impossible, but it's not something to be focused on Bitcoin right now. Seemingly it has become lower than 50k since last year, but you know "just buy the dip".
I am not bothered if it isn't even going to reach 100k before I die, lmao.
1579  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Changing my Thoughts And Behaviors. on: January 15, 2022, 05:44:21 PM

You're kind of putting too much thought into Bitcoin, OP. Maybe take a step back and take a break from any crypto-related activities that you've been doing.  I would love to talk to someone about Bitcoin and all, but I never once thought of not being interested in non-crypto stuffs. You never want Bitcoin to be the next "skynet", lol.
Though this isn't change to my financial behavior, knowledge and everything you mentioned at the last line, I got more sleep as I never bothered to go out to my remittance center to just send money to some of my money-begging relatives overseas.

Well group of people are taking advantage of some shitcoins anyway and it is just a matter of days that some bandwagons will follow along the pump, but then would go apeshit when the coin gets dumped down into the boiling room. Oh and yes those meme coins as well. Most of them do not have utility at all and just get hyped a lot.
