If not they, then someone else. Besides, by the time they manufacture those units, yours and mine should be on the way to breaking even.
Welcome to the world of BTC mining. All bets are off.
Edit: I've seen that China banner a few months back, by the way. I don't quite understand what's all the fuss now.
Oh, and another thing, in addition to capacitors, which is not nitpicking: backup pool configuration.

in fact we had 4 fires/burnt caps so far
2 x 0.92 1 x 0.93 1 x 0.94 (this one today at the datacenter of anotherhosting.se)
5. I had one make smoke early this morning. I don't know what firmware was installed, nor did I bother looking. Nothing was running very warm, and it was hashing like a mofo. Errors were virtually nil. Same capacitor as this one, but opposite side of the board. The boards seem to be omnidirectional (from my recollection) so it could be a common mode failure. http://m.imgur.com/a/hyA3a#/a/hyA3aMy burned cap looks similar, in that it looks as if the pick&place machine didn't center it on the pads. (the distance between it and the cap it is next to is shorter than the distance between two good caps) I feel like Charlie Brown, never really seeing a good deal come through. Can it still hash or is it toast?

They were probably safeguards/margins in case some terminals did not work. In any case, no one promised 6 ports. I expect to be able to upgrade Saturn to Jupiter, but not further.
AHEM! This photo is what they describe as their controller board and you see 1 2 3 4 5 6 https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-39Yes, you see them on a picture describing the slogan. It does not say anywhere that all 6 will be in use. I am more worried about those capacitors. Everything else seems like nitpicking. So you don't care if they sell 7000 Jupiters in China in the next month or two? Maybe in China they have another bitcoin, unrelated to the one you mine? KNC promised to take care of the customers who gave them a free loan of millions to start their business. This ^ does not do that. lol...sad but true.

are most of the problems on Jupiters it seems?, if so, and caps are the problem, sounds like a controller board and/or power issue to me, but I'm not an engineer...lol
I would invest in a smoke alarm and put it next to the miner, so I know if it starts burning. Still can't save it, but at least I'll know.

I do not think the capacitors are bad, I am almost certain that they are not being placed correctly. The pic that I linked in my last post shows the cap in question being skewed. Mine also was similar, but not quite as much as the one in the link.

I will admit I was pretty annoyed when I seen them open a Chinese version of the website. I take it the network protection statement means nothing now? On the flipside, how many Chinese can actually afford these miners?

I have the six ports BUT only 4 DC/DC converters on the ASIC boards. When did KnC start using only 4 ?

I'd laugh if we found out ASICminer was buying kNc's to expand their mining pool.

Paladin, I think it will still hash, but I want to get KnC's opinion prior to trying to hash without the board that has the burned cap.
I removed the board this afternoon, found an esd (antistatic) bag that I luckily had lying about and got it packaged and ready to ship back to Sweden tomorrow.
Hopefully when I wake up, KnC will have emailed me to say whether to continue limp-hashing.

Anyone get a status change on their order that is not Day 1 or Day 2 with a pay date later than June 18th? sbfree, did you ever get a status change other than "in progress"? You're the latest order I've seen so far. I wanted to keep the shipping log updated, but have jack squat for good data. KnC CS is nice, but don't know what the factory is shipping at the moment.
Thanks in advance!

Are you joking? Don't you watch any financial news? The Chinese economy is off the hook. They do have taken all the manufacturing that countries like USA used to do. The Chinese are cash rich. They have sh!t tonnes of cash to spend.

You can hash without the boards, just be sure to remove the damaged board with the PSU turned off.

You can hash without the boards, just be sure to remove the damaged board with the PSU turned off. Thought so, but I will wait for confirmation. I don't want to give them an out saying that I worked the machine outside of its designed manner...

Im pretty sure that apparent angle is a result of the fire/explosion, no?

I'd laugh if we found out ASICminer was buying kNc's to expand their mining pool. Have they been growing exponentially? Hasn't ASICMiner made enough coins for themselves? Jesus christ what a pig.

I was just thowing that out there, I did not say it was true. They are just a china interest that could afford to do it.

A ground loop problem is unlikely but the power supply has internal grounds then there are multiple connections to the miner, and all those miner power connection grounds are likely common, so a ground loop allowing an oscillation isn't impossible.

I wasn't talking about the low paid workers. You think someone assembling iphones wants to buy a bitcoin miner? Of course not. I was talking about the Chinese middle class. Read up: http://thediplomat.com/pacific-money/2013/05/30/half-a-billion-chinas-middle-class-consumers/
