hmm, waking up to another price increase is nice.

Just look at this video, why current prices are just the beginning and in a quite normal way as well:

Cold cold storage? Paper wallet, in a ziplock bag, inside of a small otterbox, inside of a fireproof vault.

Orrr, paper wallet inside of a steel tube sealed at both ends.

Or just a paper wallet in a ziplock hidden away somewhere, if you don't want the other security.

If bitcoin is only worth six hundred and some dollars next spring that would be very disappointing.

It needs to be worth thousands if it is ever to be actually used for real other than by some tiny clique. I have constantly been amazed at how long it managed not to go up into the thousands. Hopefully we have finally reached the start of the adoption curve...

You're buying cable.  Don't the upgrade modules come with a ribbon cable, heatsink and mounting hardware?

If the modules come with a ribbon cable, do both Saturn owners and Mercury owners (who only bought a single module) get ribbon cables long enough to use the back mounting or will Mercury owners only buying a single module get a short cable?  Anyone know?

No production, they saved others for RMA....  which is more than enough to cover...

Where did you hear that?

They haven't
They opened orders, at 2pm the site was flooded.
Within 5 minutes the orders were fulfilled.
They tried to close orders, net couldn't handle the load and Andreas was locked out.
At 7 min he managed to pull the trigger, as a consequence quite a few more than 200 have to be fulfilled, so some more boards will be made for those.
Bitpay crashed from load, error #404.
Newegg sell out of stock of Arctic i30s within minutes.
Blockchain is still processing some orders, well at least it was about an hour ago, as Bitpay doesn't pay transaction fees.

Thank-you...interesting... I wonder if that info is correct... even the news says sold in 3 mins.... his says seven....
But yeah, if so... production time & a small step backwards for a day...
but somehow I still doubt that is correct... guess we shall see...
I'd bet they could run manufacture them in the AM, and still make it out the door same day....

In another lifetime -- a few centuries ago -- I was working in computer manufacturing... and yeah there are times when it's simpler to make another run -- even if the product is now "out of date"... I mean -- like it's a month old -- that's a decade in the auto industry yah know.

I have never seen anything in this thread that would make me doubt Bitcoinarama's words -- regardless of all the moaning and complaining seen here.

As for your last point... Hmmm? maybe. I would have to see that. Probably take more than a day to scratch out the paperwork -- but nice if they did it.

But, if they can do it they should offer all the Saturn and Mercury owners another kick at the cat -- and then just build whatever is wanted.

It's a nice thought anyway.

My last job, one of the tasks was to troubleshoot failed boards after an SMT run.  Before I got there, the rate of successful repair was somewhat lower and failed devices were tossed aside and a run building a single board was not uncommon.

Until it's more widely accepted/used, and/or picked up by some major player, its rise will be slow.

Imagine if a nationwide chain accepted it, dispensed it, etc? Value would hop quick.

Now imagine if a major player decided to use it.. think oil companies or some other hefty conglomerate.

Exponential price rise.

What could make it climb is if a small petroleum exporting country would offer a discount on filling mega-takers if paid in bitcoin.  Yesterday I noticed 1 bitcoin was equal to the cost of 4 barrels of petroleum.

paper wallet i hear is the best, but how would i go about creating one? never done that before....

Here are a few methods I know of.

www.bitaddress.org - You can save the html page and run on an offline computer.

http://casascius.wordpress.com/2013/01/26/bitcoin-address-utility/ - I still use this on a newly formatted laptop as it's easy and tracks the addresses I've made.

https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com/ - This paper wallet came out a few months ago, but I never could get the scale/sizes right with my printer.

Just spoke to them mainly about when I can go to pick them up as I don't fancy on paying last minute ticket prices. I really hope they give me at least 1 day notice, so I am the first one to get them to hash  Grin
The lady on the phone (one of the new I assume) was very reserved on giving any details and couldn't even tell me if its more likely to happen this week or next week. So for the time being we just wait Smiley

In regards to shipping she told me that the original shipping price for the Jupiter was subsidized by them, because it costs more to send.
And the current shipping price for the Upgrade modules is in fact the real actual price of UPS.
She said that each Upgrade module is being shipped separately in its own box with its own tracking number and it weights around 300g.
So the reason you pay $60 per module is they are not going to ship them as one package and save on posting.

Cyper :

Thank you for putting in the effort!

A big Sighhhhhh..... for KNC.

For quite a while I sold into high tech because I was good at analysis and hardware design -- so I had an advantage over the many teenagers that were selling "Micro Computers" etc...  I could design the hardware and write or advise on the required software from everything to data collection in oil fields to astronomy... the latest mathematical techniques for solving large matrix systems etc.

But, it was not enough to be technically adept. I quickly learned that I had to become a logistics effort to satisfy clients all over the country -- and then all over the world. I had to learn all the shipping rates, the best way to ship the companies available and everything from LTL to Full Loadout and everything in between... (Later years when I worked in Latin America for family companies I had to start learning which airplanes could carry which cargo by weight and volume restrictions... and where the appropriate customs facilities and trans-shipping points could best be reached -- not to mention which customs officers were least problematic.) But back to the original tale: Then I had to direct and manage the staff -- and the company president and vice president that believed that engineers were trained monkeys and were a replaceable commodity -- and could be replaced every day if need be... but that too is another tale...

You can't just have the best hardware -- once you have that, the next step is top-notch marketing and great logistics. If you want proof -- look to IBM -- which took Apple out of the Office Computer market in any meaningful way for the longest time -- and spawned a whole PC industry while they were at it... Industry consensus was that many companies had far superior hardware and software to IBM (in mainframes, PCs and everything else). What you bought from IBM would work -- it was just that so many competitors beat them on price and performance. So why was IBM bigger? They were more reliable and could deliver within reasonable schedules and had so many people they could cover off even if an office (maybe even an entire region) got wiped out by the flu or whatever. In general they got the logistics, installation and maintenance right -- and that could sometimes outweigh every other factor.

So what's the point? Somebody at KNC needs to take a long hard look at their logistics and support -- and fix it.

Forcing me to pay for two shipments through customs is a small irritation -- but if someone else gets all of the logistics and support correct -- I could well accept inferior hardware. Draining your customers wallet to cover up your problems can work -- but only for a while.

If they continue to deliver superior hardware -- they can get away with inferior logistics and support. However, if a competitor becomes close in performance but then gets everything else right -- KNC will quickly drop off the map.

There are lots of companies that have been through this cycle and gone away -- especially in high tech.

Maybe Bitcoinarama can make the point with the "powers that be".
