To be honest, the reason slush hasn't been on the board, is because of the all the noob's posting 2 pages a day.  Slush doesn't have time to sit here all day to keep up on the posts.  And when he finally gets back to the board he has 8 pages to catch up on, which he just can't do.

If we could keep all the repeat, and useless posts off the thread it would work the way it was supposed to work.  But for now, someone will likely have to pm him (already been done) to get his attention.

There appear to be 4 posts from yourself discussing the recent incorrect block  Tongue Wink

Exactly.  Which is looking like a problem with the pool.  Which is exactly what this thread is for, pertinent pool related conversation.

I didn't repeat a question that has been answered 50 times already.  And I didn't make a random comment about something completely unrelated.  I used the thread for what it was designed for.

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

the noobs talk and asking questions here on the pools thread is why we need a slushs forum rather then trawl through 5000 pages on bitcoin talk.
then the chat could be subdivided out and handled in a general forum system while important things could be moved and modererated by a few chosen

+1.  There are tons of free forum plugins /standalone systems out there.  Phorum for php comes to mind.  380 pages of posts is daunting and most of it usually irrelevant to the topic at hand, which is generally the last 3 or 4 pages.  Telling someone to wade through 380 pages of "Is the forum down?" to answer their question seems a bit harsh.

+1 on the weirdness above, I'm below for that block

17925   2013-05-08 14:13:44   1:27:14   11634278   558   0.00000013   235160   25.21733124    91 left

Me three, 17926 also looks slightly fishy to me.

17926   2013-05-08 16:05:44   1:52:00   15071549   641   0.00043981   235165   25.59585000    89 confirmations left
17925   2013-05-08 14:13:44   1:27:14   11634278   488   0.00000013   235160   25.21733124    84 confirmations left

So, based on the above example, the math shows that Bitminter would have 17btc + a 16% bonus = 20btc.
The 16% extra is not from Bitminter. The person quoting the original data posted results from another pool which merge mines more than just namecoin. For Bitminter it would be the namecoin % only which was 8%.

Problems here too with block 17925

17925   2013-05-08 14:13:44   1:27:14   11634278   74   0.00000003   235160   25.21733124    80 confirmations left

Perhaps it would be useful if Slush or someone "in the know" could say if everyone having a problem with this block needs to reply on the thread, or if the whole block has problems and it'll get sorted and no one else needs to post. That would probably stop loads of pages of "I've got a problem with 17925" posts...

Search.  That's what it's there for.  No one expects you to wade through 380 pages.  But with 3 clicks most questions can be answered.

One question...

Why I have so small reward for this block ?

Normally should be around 0.00097 BTC ... minus the fee (I didn't extract the fee for easy calculus)

25.21 BTC / 11634278 = 2.16 x 10-6 x 452 = 9.79 x 10-4 = 0.000979 BTC

Yea, if your search terms are right.  And then once you find the question, track down the answer, which may or may not be mixed in with three to five other conversations.

I'm saying, this is not the most efficient way to handle discussion about a range of topics with one central theme.  An out of the box forum would do just fine.  I'd even volunteer to throw one up if someone has a domain they want to host it on.  It's honestly like 5 hours total worth of work to get set up.  Moderating, filtering now may be more cumbersome, but Slush's pool is pretty popular.  I think it may be time to at least look into a standalone forum.

Sorry mate, I thought you'd take the comment as "tongue-in-cheek" as it was intended.

Looking back now, I can laugh at the irony that posting about posts that are not what the thread was for is in itself not what the thread is for. I'm sure you can.  Smiley

I'm going ot be honest I think I got paid too much on the block that you guys are all talking about unless I did indeed earn what I did because a bunch of other shares didn't make it in mine seems to be a bit high.  help us Obiwan (slush).

I'm going ot be honest I think I got paid too much on the block that you guys are all talking about unless I did indeed earn what I did because a bunch of other shares didn't make it in mine seems to be a bit high.  help us Obiwan (slush).

Yes the calculations are off.  I submitted about 20x more shares and got 1/10883th of what you got.

Regarding that block #17925 I suspect what's the problem .

From what I can see it appears that majority of the folks didn't submit any shares in the last X minutes while others did continue to submit shares.

The most reasonable explanation to this is that there was some network issue (routing or clogged traffic) and something happened to **some** of the pool's endpoints but not to **all** of them.

In other words - a few of the IPs listed below may have been DDoS-ed, and those that were connected to them suffered as they were unable to submit their shares, while the unaffected IPs worked just fine and those people connected to them did get their (at that point) fair share:

that's from a few days ago:
Quote
C:\Users\me>nslookup stratum.bitcoin.cz
Server:  rdns-lb-01.orange.rr.com
Address:  66.75.160.63

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    stratum.bitcoin.cz
Addresses:  54.225.117.74
          54.215.3.100
          54.215.3.101
          54.215.3.102
          54.215.3.103
          54.225.68.97
          54.225.116.40
          54.225.116.174
          54.225.116.221

and looking at my currently connected worker - I am currently connected to one of those:
TCP   192.168.0.70:54312   54.215.3.103:3333   ESTABLISHED

Unfortunately I don't think slush would have any (easy) means to find out which IPs of the pool worked at that time and which didn't. If that's the case then I guess all I have to say to the winning folks - congrats for the bonus! Smiley

(that's unless slush wishes to manually recalculate the payout for that block, but the time for this is running out rather quickly too)
