As a new test playing nation, Ireland put up an outstanding performance by scoring 492 runs. I can't entirely blame SL bowlers for not performing up to the mark. But, high scoring proved proved Galle wickets neither was spin-friendly, nor they face a high-quality spin attack. Sri Lanka displayed some brilliant batting skills as all of their top four players scored centuries against Ireland.
As we move forward to the fifth day, Ireland has eight wickets left. We'll see whether they'll be able to draw the test match or not. However, Galle wicket has always favored Sri Lanka.

In last 10 test matches that were played at Galle, Sri Lanka have won 6 and there is no draw. Galle cricket ground is known for producing test results. Now equation is very simple, Ireland need to survive 90 overs on very last day of the test match or the lose the game. Sri Lanka already have won the first test so they wont mind a draw either but defiantly they will try there best to win the last test.

I will not be surprised if Sri Lanka wins this test match. And I think Sri Lanka has more chances to win. It is very difficult to stay at the crease on the last day. And already on the fourth day Ireland team lost two wickets to collect 54 runs. The performance of Ireland's batsmen in the first innings was very good. But Ireland's batsmen are not experienced enough. And so there is nothing surprising if they don't bat well on the last day. Balbirnie and Tector must bat well tomorrow. If these two batsmen start well tomorrow, maybe Ireland will be able to draw the match.

Even in the first innings of Ireland McCollum and Moor didn't scored well. Once after them slowly others started to stand wicket and good score came. In the first innings Stirling scored a century and Tucker scored 80 runs. This innings their contribution is just 1 and 13 runs. Looks like a critical situation for Ireland. Even the batting pitch used to turn and support bowling at the last day of the match. If Campher and Tector withstand wicket then there is possible chance for draw, if not the match is gonna favour Sri Lanka as they need another 6 wickets to win the match.

I am not surprised to collect 492 runs on such a batting-friendly pitch. But the Ireland team is not experienced. It was a really big score for them. They batted really well in the first innings. Almost every batsman in the squad played well. But we don't see that in the second innings. Ireland's batsmen are not playing well. They have lost 5 top-order batsmen. But the good news for them is that they now have Balbirnie and Harry Tector at the crease. The two most experienced players in the Ireland team. If these two players perform well, Ireland will be able to draw the match. If these two players are out, Ireland will lose this match as well. They are still 91 runs behind Sri Lanka.

The ongoing 2nd test match between Ireland and Sri Lanka on day 5 and 2nd session started after an early fall of wickets ireland scored 122 runs in a loss of 5 wickets but now Ireland seems to have made a solid comeback With the help of Balbirnie 36 runs not out and H. Tector 39 runs not out playing well and contributing significantly to the team score. Ireland is now trailing by only 80 runs. It is great to see the fighting spirit of the Irish team and their determination to make a comeback in this match. two more sessions left in the match, anything is possible. From Sirlanka Prabath Jayasuriya and R Mendis picks up 2, 2 wickets. Sri Lanka has a fair chance of winning but the possibility of a draw cannot be ruled out either.

The match is very much in Srilanka favour ad Ireland have lost 4 more wikcets this morning and they still trail by 69 runs. Still a long way to go for Ireland to draw this match. Most probably the outcome of this match will be another win for Srilanka. Still I would say a good performance from Ireland in there 6th test. This is first test series for Ireland in which they are playing more then 1 test match. There batting need to learn that in test you need to bat well in both innings.

Sri Lanka declared with 704 runs in the first innings. Two players in their team scored double centuries, Nishan Madushka 205 runs, Kusal Mendis 245 runs. Sri Lanka played superbly, won by 10 runs in an innings. Congratulations Sri Lanka team.

Ireland was not able to hold on till the end of the day. Sri Lanka was able to win the match by an innings and ten runs. That is certainly a little sad for Ireland because, after all, they had a great chance to actually draw the match. Whenever I saw Ireland starting to perform badly and losing wickets regularly I understood that Sri Lanka will go for the win.

In the end, Sri Lanka was able to get that win which was very convincing. A test match that was supposed to be boring actually turned out to be very interesting in the end.

A very boring match. I think that such a bad pitch should not be made in a Test format. Then it becomes very boring to enjoy the match. Ireland managed to collect 492 runs in the first innings. Now the Sri Lankan batsmen have managed to collect 553 runs losing only 2 wickets. Kushal Mendis remains unbeaten with 199 runs. Nishan Maduska was dismissed after collecting 205 runs. The way Sri Lanka is batting, it seems that getting more than 700 is not difficult for them. Sri Lanka may declare the innings after collecting more than 750.

On stumps day 4 the match has gained attention as Sri Lankans have picked up wickets of 2 Irish batsmen. Now Ireland trail by 158 runs and they have 8 wickets in hand for 5th day. This is main problem with Ireland team in test that if there batsmen perform well in first innings then they fail to repeat that in second innings. James McCollum and Moor both openers of Ireland failed in this test match. Its time for Irish middle order to take responsibility once again.

Like the first match, the Ireland team was defeated by an innings in the second match as well. Ireland's performance on the fourth day was not good. Even so, I don't think they'll be defeated by the English margin. My guess was that Ireland would be able to take a 70-80 lead. But unfortunately, the performance of the team's batsmen was not good today. Tector scored the highest 85 runs off the Ireland team in the second innings. Balbirnie also scored 46 runs. Moreover, no other batsman from Ireland could stay at the crease for long. The Ireland team was defeated by an innings and 10 runs.

These two youngsters - Harry Tector and Lorcan Tector will be playing a very crucial role for Ireland in the future, especially in the test format. Harry Tector has made 285 runs so far in test cricket, at an average of 47.50. And that came in matches played under extremely hostile conditions. Lorcan Tucker on the other hand has 289 test runs to his name, at an average of 48.16. If they had received some support from the other batsmen, then Ireland could have put up a decent performance.
