981  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 07, 2024, 08:30:06 PM
Doc Rivers is still riding that Celtics title, with 3 hall of famers, maybe even four if Rondo gets there, seems a little bit tough for him to be HOF to be fair, but it looked like he would be. I think it is clear that Celtics team was stacked and of course they did alright. With a very on fire Ray Allen (who won with Lebron later on as well) KG and Pierce, it is really obvious that they would win, they could have lost as well but the difference maker wasn't Doc.

Ever since that year, he has been going from team to team around the league and failing, he has never won anything ever, the way he handled Sixers job was good enough for me to consider him not a great coach to be fair, and I think it has to be something that would not be easy.

Yep, looks like Doc got exposed. He wasn't really the difference maker on the Celtics team.
Maybe if someone else's coached that Celtic team better than Doc, they could've won more than just 1 championship.

I think we all sort of knew that already.  The underperformance he presided over in Los Angeles as his Lob City Clippers failed to make any meaningful runs in the playoffs still is shocking to me.  How he managed to fail so badly with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and Jamal Crawford is still a mystery to me.  Those guys should have easily been able to win a title, or at least made it to the Western Conference Finals every year.  He'll never have a better team than that, so I'm doubtful he'll be back coaching in the Finals ever again.
982  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Alter Ego In Gambling on: February 07, 2024, 06:28:38 PM
I’ve never considering using an alter ego while gambling. It seems like disassociating yourself at a time when you’re risking money may not be the greatest idea, but if your alter ego is a gambling master then maybe it works out. Seeing other people talk about their alter egos makes me think I need to have one. Brainstorming…
983  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 07, 2024, 06:26:34 PM
As a casual UFC fan, I’m just waiting for UFC 300. I suspect it will be the biggest UFC event of all time with no expense spared and maybe some assistance from the Las Vegas Sphere as Dana promised a big viewing experience coming to the UFC later this year. Everything else until then is just an appetizer.
984  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Rich or poor gambler, who should risk more? on: February 07, 2024, 06:24:55 PM
I’d say being rich or poor isn’t the determining factor of how much a person should bet on an event. I think it’s more about boredom and who needs to feel alive more. In the end gambling is entertainment, so I might even say that the rich man likely has many forms of entertainment available while the poor man may not, leading him to need gambling entertainment more than the rich man.
985  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you ever introduced an elder gambler to online betting? on: February 07, 2024, 06:22:54 PM
I have not. I’ve thought about letting my Dad play some slots or something while we’re together, but I really can’t see that going any way but poorly, so I refrain. It isn’t that I don’t think older people are capable of responsibly gambling online. It is just that I’m not sure if people need to be introduced to things they aren’t used to that could cause them trouble.
986  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 07, 2024, 06:21:00 PM
I'm thinking of betting on the Bucks tomorrow. Perhaps they were able to rest after that loss to the Jazz, it was a disappointing loss because they ran out of gas in the 4th quarter, so Giannis will find a way to bounce back and get a win.
Moneyline,
Suns - 1.62
Bucks - 2.36

That's a good one for you. It's rare to see Bucks as underdog like that with Giannis playing.
They were the underdog because they have been struggling recently, and much worst is that Lillard wasn't playing that game. The line was +6, it doesn't matter as they still lose. Suns on the roll, I lose my bet.

I don't see anyone from the Suns team can stop Giannis in the paint, for the Suns to win, they need to keep their 3 point shooting at a high level which I believe the Bucks knows how to limit them on that area.
Are the Bucks that good at defending now? They are probably just at the same level on defense so it will come down to scoring more. I bet both teams will score at least 110 points.

Giannis was unstoppable still but he could not get some support from his teammates, sometimes he'll get doubled or even triple, so he needs to pass the ball but the receiver can't shoot it. And this one was also a problem.

Khris Middleton injury update: Bucks star leaves loss to Suns on crutches and in walking boot

This is the first game where I felt like things might be coming together for the Suns. I didn’t expect them to beat the Bucks but they seemed to dominate even though the Bucks were hurting a bit. The loss of
Middleton is a big one. I hope he’s back to 100% by playoff time. I haven’t heard the results of his injury yet but he’s got some time to recover.
987  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge on: February 07, 2024, 06:15:42 PM
Too old for 100 pushups a day but I will plank for more than 100 seconds every day starting today.

Planking is no joke. I think I’d be more sore planking for 100 seconds than doing 100 push-ups. That always put such a strain on my shoulders. I probably don’t do them right.

I hit 500 total as of yesterday. About to get going on today’s with a little bit of a late start. Glad to see so many others taking notice and joining in with their own activities. How long I remember to keep this up, we will see.
988  Economy / Collectibles / Re: What are your top 3 events in bitcoin history? on: February 07, 2024, 06:10:55 PM
Silk Road closing - Bitcoin became popular due to an article that was released in the summer of 2011 about Silk Road. When it was closed, Bitcoin had to stand on its own for the first time. It was no longer just a darknet coin.

mtgox closing - This was the first major event for Bitcoin. One so big at the time, we’re still awaiting resolution a decade later.

FTX bankruptcy - FTX was the biggest fraud in Bitcoin’s history. It single-handedly kept a lid on the top of Bitcoin’s price and pumped alts to the moon, making some people crazy rich while others lost what they thought they had. We are still recovering from this and it remains to be seen if the manipulative effects on altcoin valuations remain lasting.

A runner up event might be pirateat40 who ran a Ponzi scheme so large, it once made up a huge chunk of available BTC. His arrest was one of the first in this community and a signal we were moving away from the Wild West.
989  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 07, 2024, 05:57:26 PM
44K in one hour tbc

I don’t know about the next hour but it does feel like the market has decided to move back up. There isn’t much resistance left between here and $50K so a move up could go fast. There’s still a lot of BTC hanging over the market though so it’s back to all eyes on gox to see if there’s going to be demand to meet all that supply.
990  Economy / Speculation / Re: Was Bitcoin ETF really a good thing for growth of crypto and Bitcoin prices? on: February 07, 2024, 05:54:53 PM
I think the ETFs haven’t really gotten to shine yet. Once GBTC is done hemorrhaging then we’ll get to see the effects as it will stop being a game of musical chairs with investors jumping from high cost to low cost funds. Then we’ll see the ETF start sucking up all the BTC out there as they move up. It’s coming…

Wow bitcoin network can be communicated over radio signals and mesh... give some btc to voyager 1!!!

Ya, there’s been some cool projects working on this over the years. I’ve never tried it myself but I do find it interesting. You can also buy a satellite dish and communicate with the Bitcoin network that way. There are kits you can buy if you wanted to check it out. I’ll stick to the internet myself but by the time you need this stuff you wouldn’t be able to get it.
992  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2023-2024 betting on: February 07, 2024, 06:18:05 AM
^ Some good picks. I think I’m going with a 2 game parlay though. I like the Minnesota Timberwolves to beat the Chicago Bulls and cover the spread along with the Dallas Mavericks beating the Brooklyn Nets and covering the spread. Nothing too controversial today. I am looking forward to the Suns and Bucks game.

I'll go singles today, or at least pre game betting, I already have Luka's Mavs -3.5 at the start against the Nets.

Now that I look on the odds between the Wolves against the Bulls, I will go with the Wolves -5.5 @1.97. But still though, not going to make it a parlay, I'm not that lucky going on parlay even for 2 leg game.

And just when you think that the Wolves is going to have a easy win against the Bulls, building as high as 23 point lead, Koby White ignited a huge comeback and forces the game into OT and then DeRozan taking over in the OT with the assist to Drummond for a huge win for them.

Good that you didn't go on a parlay as the Mavs won comfortably against the Nets. Luka and Kyrie combine for 71 big points and Luka is just shy of another triple double. Just 1 assist but it's all good as I also take win on them.

A real bummer about the Bulls beating the Timberwolves. I definitely wasn’t expecting that. Ruined a nice parlay for me but I was impressed with how Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving played for the Mavs tonight. I was also impressed by the Suns taking out the Bucks. Bol Bol playing like he’s trying to steal the shine from Wemby.
993  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The bitaxeUltra: Open source Bitcoin miner based on the BM1366 ASIC on: February 06, 2024, 11:03:43 PM
Yeah but I am near an Air Force base which routinely knocks out my wifi for 20 or 30 minutes at a time.

I would want to run a few of these with an eth cable.

Like, knocked out from RF interference? That's wild.

It would be a big job to add ethernet to the Bitaxe. It's built for WiFi from the ground up. I wonder what would happen if you directly connected the ESP32 wifi to a wifi router with coax... Espressif makes a drop-in ESP32-S3 variant with a u.fl antenna connector. I assume some attenuation would be necessary.
. I was stunned the first time it happened.

Mostly happens when this Air Force plane flies above me.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_E-3_Sentry

I would think it is the radar that does it. I live about 15 miles from the base. It does training sweeps every now and then.  Really fucks wifi up whenever it doe the low flying tests.

This is interesting because I've never seen anyone else say this besides me, but I too have some experience having wi-fi knocked out from airplanes...  They do some F-35 testing near me and I am an avid drone flyer.  I used to use wi-fi for my drone flights because I liked the idea that I could setup a giant wi-fi mesh network in my area with large antennas and boosters (shhh, don't tell anyone).  My original idea I was testing was to have a set of drones taking turns 24/7 circling my area as a type of surveillance to be controlled by a computer running a program (the challenge is in the automated recharging process).  Whenever they would be testing F-35s in my area I would notice that I would completely lose connection with my drone until the plane had flown away.  It happened enough times that I actually abandoned my giant drone wi-fi network and switched to other technology.  Now I use radio signals and for long range flights I would IN THEORY use the cellular phone network.  I would bet quite a bit that next gen fighters are able to disrupt wi-fi signals either purposefully or via a biproduct of however they operate.
994  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge on: February 06, 2024, 10:48:58 PM
But OgNasty, how will you know if one is completely doing the challenge here? I'm starting from tomorrow but how do you know I'm keeping up with your challenge.

I don't care if people keep up with the challenge or not.  I only care about letting them know it's going on so that they too can become stronger individuals.  If you want to fake that you are participating, I'm fine with that.  You are only depriving yourself and with faking it maybe you'll inspire someone else in the process, so I still see it as a positive.

This may seem related to bitcoin speculation but it is not bitcoin speculation at all. We are not speculation on bitcoin price but to know if someone can know if he or she can go up to 100 push ups before bitcoin hit six digits. This belongs to off-topic.

Life is too short to be a Karen on the internet.  Do some push-ups instead.
995  Economy / Reputation / Re: What happens if someone sells an account on a neighboring forum? on: February 06, 2024, 10:43:53 PM
IMO it's a who cares. What you, or someone pretending to be you, at ANY other forum does not matter.

Here regulates here and there regulates there. Lets assume I setup an account someplace else and I teleport my account there.
And never use it. And then for whatever reason it gets compromised. That account then does bad things.
But...I never used it and I don't care. Why should that matter to me here. If I then go in and remove the proof here that it was me there what does it matter?

Because:

1) The account was compromised and is was not me so who cares.
2) It was not compromised and it WAS me, but you can't prove it.

Either way, it's a there problem not a here problem.

-Dave

This is an interesting argument and I can definitely see your point.  The last thing we want is for people to get used to trusting a name regardless of what forum it is on.  Telegram is a good example.  I don't use it but am constantly asked about deals I'm supposedly escrowing.  I've even had people in this community get angry for things that I supposedly said on Telegram, which is odd when I know it wasn't even me...  Granted a teleported account is a little bit different because this account authorized it, but I can see your point that a reputation here stays here and doesn't go with the name to other sites.  I'm just not sure how I feel about it.  I guess everyone should always be careful and if you think you're talking to someone from here, do yourself a favor and talk to them through here.
996  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 06, 2024, 10:39:19 PM
I also saw that the Bucks must sign him, and waive Thanasis which is very funny, but kind of true. Just so you know, Tony Snell has a career where he just went "cardio" for 20+ minutes. No statsat all, and the only thing he did was run on the court. Cheesy. Thanasis? What is he doing on the league? He isn't even playing, and the team don't need him aside from him being a cheerleader for his younger brother. Cheesy
Haha, Thanasis our guy.

They've been in losing streak when the change of coach has happened. He's the million dollar guy that's hired to hire his brother. But seriously, he's drafted first by the New York Knicks so maybe he's really got the talent but then Bucks just seen better deal with him.

He's expensive personal body guard of Giannis and I'm sure that Bucks is so ready to get rid of him but they can't do anything since he's under protection of their star brother which they can't afford to lose.

Also I think he will not drafted if his not a good player maybe he just need a break to show his talent and capabilities to help the team that's why if they need additional help maybe its better for bucks to used him or try to develop so that they get something from him. If they let him sit on bench I think nothing will happen and they just waste their money for him.

Obviously they're developing him, but I think that's part of the deal with Giannis.  Everyone knows this is something the Bucks are doing to keep Giannis happy.  Thanasis clearly isn't an NBA caliber player.  I'm pretty sure once Giannis leaves the Bucks that Thanasis won't be far behind.  We'll probably find out after this season, but I wouldn't be surprised if whoever signs Giannis also makes a league minimum offer to Thanasis in an attempt to keep Giannis happy in his new home as well.
997  Other / Politics & Society / Re: DeSantis Vows to Abolish IRS, Advocates Flat Tax in Presidential Bid Amidst Stif on: February 06, 2024, 10:33:50 PM

I am not a tax officer but I think a flat tax rate doesn't promote equity. I see this tax policy as a form of exploitation low low-income earners. I am glad that he dropped out of the presidential race because his policies look absurd.
A flat tax could be a tiered tax to income levels though. And still be considered a simplification of the current tax system with all its loopholes and rules.

Ya, I'm sure they would still leave a standard deduction in there to help those with low incomes.  However, in order for something like this to realistically pass they'd also have to throw something in for rich folks.  At the very least they'd need to see assurances that the capital gains and dividends taxes would stay where they are as well as unrealized capital gains never being taxed.  So long as they did that, I don't think the rich would care what they do about income tax.
998  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 06, 2024, 10:29:32 PM
[....]
I’ve heard the Suns are trying desperately to get one more piece.
Miles Bridges was the latest rumor. Do they even have enough to give up for trades?

I have no idea who they would give up or what picks they have left...  I also don't know what help a player like Miles Bridges would be.  Seems like they need another big man to me, but I haven't seen the entire team play together enough yet to know.

The Grizzlies played without 13 players against the Celtics and suffered a heavy loss. Now they will play the Knicks, another Eastern team in form. It's a tough game again and the number of missing players makes their chances even worse. There is another opportunity for the players who normally don't get minutes to show themselves. The Knicks also have missing players, but nothing like the Grizzlies, they don't have a complete team. There will be no surprises in this game, I don't know how many points the Knicks will win by, but sure they will win.

Interesting.  I was unaware of this.  Might have to add them to a parlay.  I wondered why the odds were so bad.

Anybody else taking part in the latest Bitcoin movement sweeping across social media? 100 pushups a day until 100K?

I'll do it if you will.

I'm in.  I made a new thread so we won't keep pestering people on this thread about it and I put it in speculation because it is basically speculation that the Bitcoin price will hit $100K.  The countdown begins...  I had initially thought that Bitcoin would hit $100K in 2025, but now I'm really hoping it happens sooner so that I'll still be able to scratch my own back at the end of this challenge.

1000  Economy / Speculation / 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge on: February 06, 2024, 10:22:31 PM
Bitcoin is headed to $100,000 and that's not speculation. OK, maybe it is, but the 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K challenge is real and has been echoing throughout the community for a week now, so I thought I would make a thread here for those of us who want to try and hold ourselves accountable.

The first video that comes up when you do a quick search for this is Jae from Proof of Work Fitness, so I'll give him credit for kicking off this trend until someone corrects me with better information.  You can see his video about it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPrsA7gBc3U

I myself started this challenge on 2/2/24 and hope to inspire other Bitcoiners to take this step to help build some muscle in the community.

Here's a video showing you what happens to your body after doing 100 push-ups a day for a month and gives some tips on proper form: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euPXf2hqU3s

My only real tips would be to not worry about trying to do 100 push-ups at once.  Break them down into as small of sets as you need to keep from hurting yourself.  I also prefer doing push-ups on my knuckles as I think it saves my wrists from a lot of stress.

If 100 a day is too much, maybe try to start with whatever "K" the Bitcoin price is at and work your way up to 100 along with Bitcoin.  Smiley

Who's in?!?!?

Want to be included on the spreadsheet tracking everyone's push-ups?  Below is the format to post your progress in order to be added to the spreadsheet.
My example: 100k,OgNasty,69,6900,2024-04-10

[Format(notice no spaces): "100k,UserName,DaysDoingPushups,TotalPushupsDone,yyyy-mm-dd"
This would be the first 3 posts of a new participant named Pushupper who completed 20 pushups on day 1, 30 pushups on day 2, and 30 pushups again on day 3.

Day 1 post include = "100k,Pushupper,1,20,2024-03-15"
Day 2 post include = "100k,Pushupper,2,50,2024-03-16"
Day 3 post include = "100k,Pushupper,3,80,2024-03-17"]

The quotes won't matter to the script and might help emphasize the no spaces rule?
