2201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Introduction - Query about Wallets & Social Trading on: December 04, 2017, 03:37:48 PM
Hi I'm new to investing in Bitcoin & alt coins and I've noticed there are some that have grown rapidly in the last few days such as BTCM, TIE & CCN. I want to start my journey locating the most promising/on-trend alt-coins to invest in.

My main question is I've been using eToro social trading for my investments so far and I was wondering what are the pros and cons are of it compared to independent wallets?

Thanks

eToro looks like an exchange to me, not a wallet. Either way it looks very weird to say the least.
I wouldn't advise to leverage anything in crypto at all, or copy the "good" traders, as this usually results in a loss of funds.

If you do actually store your bitcoin at eToro, and trade at the same time, this will basically mean that you have no real control over your funds, which is also the case with most other crypto trading platforms ( poloniex ).

If you actually want to posess your bitcoin i'd advise to download a wallet such as electrum, where you have the control over your private keys ( and seed).
2202  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: please help me recover my bitcoinss on: December 03, 2017, 08:08:53 PM
im using blockchain wallet and i have the address imported into it and have access to the private keys for it on blockchain. So it was $80 in there then It only let me send $20 of it. Now it says $60 but when I select to send the coins from blockchain it says I dont have anything

You're trying to spent dust i think, which results in absurd fees, thus making you only able to spend 20$, the rest (40$) will be used as fees, or are not worth it to be spend because the fees are higher then the value of the bitcoins itself?

Try to import the private keys in a wallet such as electrum, then set your own fees, ( 1 sat/b) and try to accelerate it on a tx accelerator like antpool, that is probably going to be your only bet to get your transaction to confirm.
2203  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain addresses on: December 03, 2017, 06:59:24 PM
Hello guys! I'm a little bit confuse with undestanding blockchain addresses at all. So, the question is: what is the derivative? Is the private key the derivative from public key? Or vice versa? For example, in terms of bitcoin blockchain and ethereum blockchain. Beforehand, thanks guys for your help!

No, a public key is "derived" from a private key.

The following formula is used to get the corresponding public key for a private key -
Quote
Take the corresponding public key generated with it (65 bytes, 1 byte 0x04, 32 bytes corresponding to X coordinate, 32 bytes corresponding to Y coordinate)
Code:
Public_K=G Private_K=(x,y)

An adress however, is generated from the public key, see https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Technical_background_of_version_1_Bitcoin_addresses  for the complete guide on how to create an adress from the public key.

You're a newbie, you can't post images, as this has been exploited/abused heavily in the past. You either need to wait until you're a Jr. Member, or buy the copper rank.

2205  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: wallet question on: December 03, 2017, 05:06:05 PM
I am new to the bitcoin/altcoin world...
After I bought litecoins and bitcoins, I read about why it is better to have a hardware wallet. Of course a script/hack/lokal user can copy your profile with all your softwarewallet settings and restore them on antoher computer. Maybe even bypass any pin codes...

Since I did a long time investment (and I will not be checking my wallet for a long time), I wonder...

1) Can  I can just delete everything from my computer as long as I got my "seed"-words? (the ones that look like "chair moon Earth cat etc....")

2) Can  I restore my wallet using this seed-password with the same program in lets say 5 years? And is this program-sensitive?
I mean.. if I use electrum-LTC, can I restore it in 5 years with another program that has support for LTC? Like JAXX? Or are the seed words only compatible with the wallet that I used? Or are there different "seed Word standards", so some programs are compatible with another?

3) Is there any form of time out when you are not using your wallet? Not checking your wallet for 5 years has no negative effect?

4) The reason why I am thinking of doing this is simple... No Active wallet in use = no vulnerabilities. Am I thinking wrong here?

Friendly greetings,
The pizza guy Smiley

1) If you're using a HD wallet ( Electrum), yes, you can. The seed recovers everything. I'm not too sure about other wallets.

2) That depends on the wallet you used to generate the seed. There are alot of wallets who use different BIPS to generate the seed, some  wallet programs are compatible with each other, others aren't.

3) Unless there would be a fork which only allows you to claim within X time, i don't see any reason why there should be.

4) I wouldn't say that there are no vulnerabilities, nor would i say that there are a lot less compared to holding your bitcoins on a hardware wallet such as trezor / nano.

I think you should maybe use a paper wallet, which saves the hassle/frightening moments of trying to import your seed in 5 years.

See https://www.coindesk.com/information/paper-wallet-tutorial/
2206  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trust shows Negative on: December 03, 2017, 04:48:02 PM
Hi, I have been experiencing a change in my BT profile for the past two days. Whenever I logged in, I see the Trust Icon showing red. Please, what does this mean and what can I do to restore it back to normal?

It means that a member of DT2+ has tagged you as "untrustworthy"/ a scammer / a fraud, you name it.

The user that gave it to you strongly believes that you are one of the above things, there's actually 3 things you can do against it, which are the following:

1. Convince the person that gave it to you to remove it, because you feel it has been given to you for an unfair reason.

2. Get multiple positive trusts from DT2+ members, correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe at some point this balances out the negative trust and it'll be neutral or Huh again.

3. Convince members from DT1 to remove the person from DT2, so that his feedback becomes worthless, or convince DT ( Theymos) to remove the member from DT1, so that again, his feedback will become useless.

2 + 3 are unlikely to happen, so i'd say that talking  to the person that gave it to you is probably your best option, in this case Vod.
2207  Other / Meta / Re: cant reply to post.. on: December 03, 2017, 04:10:05 PM
so sometimes i try to reply to a post cloudflare says i am blocked..

it says to email someone to get unblocked but i dont know who.

It might be because of a google chrome addon you are running, it seems that it is inflicting with the bitcointalk site in some form or shape, like you're trying to inject data into the site.

Maybe see if it still happens when you just use a clean browser, ( without any addons) ?
2208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lost wallet but still have keys on: December 02, 2017, 07:18:19 PM
Good point LoyceV, what is at stake is the current value. Back then I had high hopes for bitcoin and tried to get others interested. When the value dropped I lost interest. myself I can see I made 5 transactions but can't remember what they were. And I remembered having printed the keys and put them somewhere. When I couldn' t find it I assumed I had thrown it away. Glad I still found it. Smiley
Make sure you keep track of where your change goes if you just import your private key.
What do you mean by ' change'?

Is it smart to put Electrum on a thumb drive, if even possible?

Change is the money which is spent that returns to your wallet after a transaction.

Lets say you have 10BTC on an adress, you buy a new X for 4 BTC.

10 bitcoin will be spent, 4 to the adress for the stuff you wanted to buy, which means 6 will be returned to a change adress, ( hence the name).

If you just import the private key of the spent adress, ( where the 10 btc is ), you might not have access to your change adress, so be wary that you might need to change the change adress to an adress you have the private keys for.

Although usually this isn't the case, you should really check it before spending anything.
2209  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question regarding Account Ranks. on: December 02, 2017, 05:16:46 PM
Thank you Vrs, but this still doesn't share any information about getting demoted from rank. I was at 31 activity points and Jr. Member rank, 2 days ago, now I'm at Newbie with 24 activity. I have absolutely no idea where the rest of my 7 activity points vanished.

You probably made 7 posts in spam/mega threads which have since been deleted by a moderator of the forum..

If you make 3 more posts i believe you will be Jr Member again, but if your posts get deleted again, you will be demoted again.

See it as this

1 activity = 1 post, ( !but 1 post =/= 1 activity!)

2210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to transfer other coin to bitcoin? on: December 02, 2017, 04:02:57 PM
If you have others typesof token from your airdrop ,how cab the owner transfer it into bitcoin?

You will need to use an exchange, such as http://poloniex.com or, for less popular altcoins/airdrops, -> https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/ / https://www.coinexchange.io/

And then deposit them there, sell them, and withdraw the bitcoins to a wallet such as https://electrum.org/#download

I have launched a telegram group. I want all those whose account has been disabled to join to this group. and if we needed to file a lawsuit against them we can do it collectively for better results.
everybody is welcome
here is group:
https://t.me/joinchat/BjmOlA2Ir-_l5XhBATHoTg

Is that for US only? It would be a bit hard to do it from all over the world and I'm not from US myself. I will personally wait a little bit more because I sent my ticket only 1 week ago but eventually I'm going to have to do something if they keep doing this.

I had a legacy account aswell i believe, and it got changed to unverified, and i'm from the EU. Had a good amount of money there. I guess i will just need to verify my passport before i can withdraw?

Anyway, i'm not sure how they can change something like this without noticing ANYBODY.
I haven't received a single email, nor did it seem like they updated their ToS,  ( as i never accepted any new TOS of them, in a form of a popup/email... ? )
2212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Fees are so high on: December 02, 2017, 03:37:41 PM
Transaction fees are expected to be high because you are dealing with the internet and this is one way that they can get profit. Maybe they should set a standard that everybody can follow

Like communism? That's not how it works, and it won't work. Even if you would have a standard flat fee, people who need to prioritize their transaction will just pay multiple groups of miners extra money to include his transaction first, which will ultimately result in cartels only mining specific transactions..

and ontop of that, the fees that miners currently earn are really not their main income, but rather the block reward is.
2213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Fees are so high on: December 02, 2017, 02:47:08 PM
Why the fees are getting so high now?

Because of a number reasons.

A. bitcoin is getting worth more $$$, which means that even if the transactions stay the same, it will still cost you more.

B. Scalability, more people are adopting bitcoin, which means more transactions, while there are only blocks roughly every 10 minutes. This means that people who want to have their transactions prioritized, need to pay more.

See the amount of current transactions in the mempool that are waiting for confirmation, https://blockchain.info/charts/mempool-size

thanx a lot.

-rescan worked fine

how can i see, if my wallet is hd?

If you started bitcoin core after version 0.13.0, or are using a wallet that has been generated after 0.13.0, you will automatically by default using a HD wallet.

See https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Deterministic_wallet

Starting Bitcoin Core isn’t sufficient, there are more steps involved than launching it. If you mean he started using Bitcoin Core, after 0.13.0, and didn’t previously have a wallet.dat created, that is different.

You're right. I formulated that pretty badly, indeed.

I don't think there's a way to make previous non-HD bitcoin core wallets HD right? Other then importing all the private keys (walletdump) into a new ( wallet generated AFTER .13.0) wallet.dat

If you've generated your wallet before v0.13.0, it is highly unlikely that you have/are using one.

2216  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet questions on: December 02, 2017, 11:59:32 AM
Okay. So i went with the Copay wallet, linked it to coinbase to buy BTC and bought some BTC. Gonna take a few days it looks like, but next question is it supposed to automatically show up in the Copay wallet when it gets confirmed?

In most wallets it will show up even if it is unconfirmed. ( As unconfirmed ofcourse Roll Eyes) What exactly did you do in coinbase? You used the copay receiving adress as withdraw adress?

If that's the case, everything should be fine. If you want to check if you actually received anything on your CoPay adress, you should/could use a 3rd party such as https://blockchain.info, if you think copay is bugging/not working.
2217  Economy / Digital goods / Re: AdFly Clone Monetized Clone URL Shortener PHP Script on: December 01, 2017, 10:21:10 PM
how do you earn money with the script

You give each visitor that clicks and succesfully skips the adf.ly link a small amount of bitcoin, or just some satoshis, while you keep all the adrevenue the user itself made from clicking it.

This is what most faucets do these days, either through CPM/popups, or these links.

See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=212.0 for more information on them.

@OP does this also include protection against people faking their referer, so that it looks like they came/visited the link while in reality they didn't?

2218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Have several unconfirmed transactions going back over 3 weeks on: December 01, 2017, 09:54:05 PM
Could a service be generated to collect micro-payments
and dust-payments into one larger one?

The longest lasting transaction I have had to date was
for 8 days, in the end I requested a REFUND which took
about another 3 days to be actioned but it did happen
and my transaction was REFUNDED.

It was through Shapeshift.

Maybe have a look at some of the transactions and see
if they can be refunded?

You could use something like poloniex?

I'm not sure if they'd really be waiting on you doing this, ( correct me if i'm wrong, but  i don't think it is stated that you can't do this, or that it is frowned upon), they only charge 0.0001 per withdraw, and you can deposit down to 1 satoshi i believe, which makes it pretty ideal for faucet earnings etcetera.

Then once you withdraw it'll all be 1 output, instead of hundreds small ones.

facts image

I inform the support that all my posts in forums have been deleted, no mendsagens was in disagreement of the rules, all were on the subject of the topics.
I believe that I am being pursued by someone who does not like me, and uses the position worked to harm me.

here is my total discontent with what happened.

The only persons who can remove posts are moderators, and i doubt that they would start a witch hunt against you, since i don't see a single reason that would be of benefit for them.. ( Nothing personal).

They delete so many posts every day which are out of context, self-advertising, or spam. It happens to everyone, not just you, which is why they often don't give a reason.

Could you provide some context?
What  posts were deleted? Did you advertise in them, or were they just generally really low quality? You could move your thread here -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.40 if you want to get an answer from a moderator.
2220  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sume *** stole my btc on: December 01, 2017, 07:21:30 PM
How can I check if its some wallet from Exchange?

You could use a website such as http://walletexplorer.com, however i've just tried the adress in which the 2000$ are stored, and it returned no values, which either means these bitcoins are probably not stored on an exchange/online wallet such as coinbase, or that the adress has not yet been added to their database.

OR, https://matbea.net/btc/address/19RJxHdGjbN6QQiQxJM87Dc79cUkgbeWcH which also doesn't really return anything. I fear the worst @OP.
