2221  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet questions on: December 01, 2017, 07:11:00 PM
I've just started learning about crypto currencies and need a little help with wallets. Read the wallet general info section on here and helped with a lot, but still have questions. Initially getting into this I got steered toward bitcoin.com. I download their wallet on both my PC and smartphone, but reading more, i don't think I want to use them and will try one of the others recommended in the general info thread. I have not purchased any bitcoins yet. Do I just delete the bitcoin wallet and it's gone and don't have to worry about? Or does the wallet still exist for people to send money to even if I delete the program to access them?

Well, yes, the wallet itself ( adresses + private keys ) will still exist, and if people have the right adress, they can still send money to it. ( which will then ofcourse be lost if there's no private key associated/known anymore.)

My question is, why do you worry about it?

Using another wallet would simply mean that you will get a different set of private keys + adresses, ( unless you import your old wallet).

I guess you could contact the police, but i doubt that is going to do anything, heck they might not even look at it if the amount they stole is >10000$.

Anyway you could try to contact the exchange to which the coins were send to, they might be able to help out, but i seriously doubt it.

Other then that, bitcoin is irreversible, so there's nothing that you can do really.
2223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lost wallet but still have keys on: December 01, 2017, 05:51:01 PM
Thanks for your reply. I used Multibit at the time and never bothered to use a passphrase or password. It was such a small amount and I only sent a small amount to a friend just for fun to see how long it took to arrive. I soon lost interest and forgot all about it. At the time it was worth 10 dollars or less but a lot has changed since then. I just counted the characters of the key and it has 51 characters so I'm sure it is the private key.
I understand Multibit is not even used anymore. What program could I use to enter the keys in?

You should download a litewallet/software wallet such as electrum https://electrum.org/#download, and import the private key, all the addresses associated with it will show, with your balance.
2224  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with wallet transaction tracking - Important! on: December 01, 2017, 05:12:34 PM
Here is a screen shot of my Ledger Nano S where I clicked on Receive, and selected the Account (wallet?) that I want to receive BTC into. I assume the address listed is the one to use when listing on Antpool - correct? Well, that is what I did. If that is not correct, where did my BTC go and can I get it back?

Look up the adress in http://blockchain.info, and copy paste the outputs in http://walletexplorer.com, this might give you an idea of where the coins are/ which wallet you actually used.

You're the only one who can specify a withdraw adress on antpool, not us.

There's not much you can do once you discover that they are sent to the wrong adress, especially if you don't know to who the adress belongs.
2225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Multi coins - Hardware wallet on: December 01, 2017, 04:32:06 PM
I’m Thinking about buying new hardware wallet [for the first time] (ledger or trezor).
Googled it and find these hardware wallets don't provide the private keys or using an extra tool to get private keys.

1) Is there any hardware wallet support Multi coin (at least bitcoin forks)?.
2) how can get private key from these wallets?.
3) can edit settings to get more than 1 wallet for 1 device?.

Ledger does have support for bitcoin forks, atleast i know that they support bitcoin cash,

see https://ledger.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005174789-How-to-install-and-use-Bitcoin-Cash-BCH-with-Ledger

I believe instead of private keys they'll give you a 24 word seed.

Also, you can put the seed in a bip39 converter and it should generate the private keys.

2226  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 40 Euro charge for purchasing Dash on BitPanda? on: December 01, 2017, 03:35:33 PM
What gives?

I purchased 965 Euros worth of Dash with BitPanda Euro wallet and, upon arriving in my Dash wallet, value of Dash is 925 Euros.

Can someone explain why or tell me how to reach BitPanda Support team?

Thanks!

This might not be a bug/ something the support can do anything about. Bitcoin panda has pretty high fees due to the fact that they also accept processors in which you can chargeback.

Various websites state that their fee is between 1-5%, depending on the payment processor you used ( i believe?)

You paid ~

Code:
(925-965=(40/965)*100= 4.14507772021%

in fees.
2227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: help please on: November 30, 2017, 09:14:28 PM
i still have the wallet id and the retrieval code.

People try to figure out what you mean. Look at this image:

If your wallet ID looks like that 1FCR... blue string on the left (startswith 1 or 3, and it's that long and strange ), that's your address/public key
If your "retrieval code" looks like that 5KK... string (at least the length/style is this), then that's your private key (which you should never share).

One very easy way to transform this into a wallet you can use to transfer your money is to import the private key into Electrum. Many other wallets can do this more or less easy.
If you'll confirm that the "retrieval code" is indeed the private key, people will guide you what to do next safely.
Are you sure dude. Will all the wallet have these number format mentioned above. I don't that is true. I just checked one of the wallet information to understand your information. But its seems with the different alpha numeric in a starting phrase.
However, you will find the information stated in the seed or paper as this is private key and this public key. Then why we should confuse ourself with this starting number and all.
Wait let him confirm actually he is having the private key only. Still it is not clear and explained for importing information too.

Yes, all the wallets that have been created today will look like this, and most wallets that have been generated in the past will have the exact same generistics in terms of the length of the bitcoin adress, and private key.

Although the seed could indeed be different due to various BIP being used for the generation of it, but this isn't mentioned here.

Also, there is not such thing as a "wallet ID(entifier)", unless you were using a webwallet.. This is most likely something that blockchain.info used.

You might have used it before you switched to a cold storage? I'm not too sure.

Use the wallet identifier and retrieval key here, https://blockchain.info/wallet/#/login and see if it works.

( Is the retrieval key just a password, or a string of letters?, or a sentence of random words?)

Hello,

I've been trying to make a post. But I can't insert any image. I have tried using imgur, tinypic.com and another one.. it just always shows me the link, even though I am using [img ]http://and [ / img] (the spaces are on purpose. I am doing that right of course)

Here an example of me using the insert image button and trying to display an image in this post.

See, it just shows the link, even though I am using the insert image function with [img ] and [/img ]

Can anybody help please?

No, the only one who can help you is you + time, or your wallet. Newbies are restricted from posting pictures due to abuse/exploiting in the past.

The only way to circumvent is to buy a Copper Membership.

2229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Lost BTC on: November 30, 2017, 04:30:53 PM
I tried to convert BTC from Coinbase account to BCC (Bitcoin Cash) in my Freewallet BCC wallet using Changelly. Instead of sending to Changelly address, I mistakenly sent directly to my Freewallet address which did not receive them.
Are the coins lost or is there a way to get them back?

You sent bitcoin to a bitcoin cash adress on your freewallet? Do you own the private keys for the adress you send them to?

If so, simply import the private key in electrum if the above is the case, or import it in electroncash if it's vice versa.

If you do not own the private keys that are associated with the adress, but rather the owner of the wallet (( Freewallet??) never heard of them by the way)....

you will need to contact their support and ask if they can do anything. Which they probably can, but i doubt if they're willing to put the effort in it.
2230  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help new users with the rank calculations on: November 30, 2017, 04:04:56 PM
Hi, I think its not on the number of post but the quality of the post you make. In local forums they start deleting zero value posts and posts that is not related to Bitcoin. You can check the the Newbies read before posting. Maybe some of your post were deleted or not counted. Quality over quantity. Good luck to us.  Wink
If any of my posts were deleted, so it would be shown less number of made posts in my profile. And the quality of posts is good. I usually post in Bitcoin discussion, Altcoin discussion, Economy and Services threads. And the posts are not short.

He has been on the site (and posted ) for more periods then you have been, which means he could potentially have/get more activity, which is indeed the case.

Code:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration

activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Your time=~3 (October - november)

While his time ( from october - december/november) would be ~6?

You can get ~1 activity per day, and it gets updated every 14 days.

If you post once in the 14 days, you will still get the potential activity added to your account.

Thank you, mate! You have cleared the situation for me. So all I need to do is to keep posting on a permanent basis and my rank is going to update every 14 days?

If in rank you mean activity, then yes.

Simple. Beside posting you also need to read forum a lot (or just stay AFK ofk)

This isn't true. The only thing that matter for activity / ( membership rank) are=  posts + in which timeframe they were made.

Simple. Beside posting you also need to read forum a lot (or just stay AFK ofk)
Yeah. I have no possibilities to stay online all the time. I have full time job. But I visit btt everyday and post.

Which there is no need for.

Even if you post only once in one activity period ( 14 days), because you have no time or for whatever reason, you will get it as potential activity. So you will be able to earn 27 activity, instead of 14 in the next period.

I believe this also stacks/adds up.

Hi,

what will happen if the Exodus Company shuts down or just vanish.
Will the Programm on the Computer still work and i will be able to transfer the funds to somewhere else?
Same question about other wallets and the ledger wallet but exodus is the most important.

And does someone know a good offline wallet for ripple? I tried rippex or RippleAdminConsole-1.4.1 called but its just not accepting my password so i will defnitly not put any coins in this wallet because i reset this wallet already twice.

Kind regards Florian

You should be able to export all your funds out using the private keys / seeds they provided you with.

Here's how you are able to export your private keys into another wallet, in case they go down.

ok I got it a bit but also tell me guy after converting to paper wallet how can we use them online ? and thanx for ur valued reply

You simply import the private key / ( or seed) that you saved/written down on the paper in a wallet such as electrum - http://electrum.org/, and your balance/bitcoin should be there. It is as easy as that.

I use MyEtherWallet and blockchain, despite the recent bad reviews of the latter I think that there is currently no second best wallet. If anyone has any information please email me.

You've quoted my reply in which i stated a different wallet...

Why exactly do you think blockchain.info is the best wallet?
Any other reason than convenience is false. They do not offer direct access to private keys, RBF transactions, CPFP transactions, the list goes on and on.

I'd once again recommend you to use a hardware wallet such as https://electrum.org/#home
2234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is it safe to reuse a hacked exchange wallet account? on: November 29, 2017, 08:39:30 PM
I had bitcoin stolen by a hacker 1 month ago, I have since set up a stronger PW and 2FA. Also gonna accumulate BTC on a paper wallet. Is it safe to reuse the hacked account to trade? If not, what are the options?

That would depend on how your account got hacked in the first place.

If he

 1. bruteforced your account password, then yes, it should probably be fine.

 2. used a database (https://leakedsource.ru/) for example, to find out the password of your email / exchange, you should probably still be wary.

 3. used social engineering ( although i'm not too sure this is possible with most exchanges), it wouldn't really be safe to use the same account again, as i'd say that the chances of it happening again are pretty big.

I myself would've probably created a new account with a clean email, but you'll need to make your own decision.

2235  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Consequences of having a bitcoin account on both Electrum and a Ledger Nano S on: November 29, 2017, 08:34:22 PM

Are there any contraindications?  Advantages?

I had a dormant bitcoin account when the August and November forks.  I have initialized the Nano S, but i am trepidatious about doing anything withoiut better understanding of
the consequences.

Is thaere a discussion, tutorial, other than at Ledger's site that I may study.

james-osbourne

No, there isn't other then that you now need to make sure that two places are secure of potential viruses ( keyloggers etcetera) instead of one.

Which kind of defeats the purpose of the ledger in the first place, since i assume you bought it for more security?

2236  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I work out if I have any Bitcoin left from 2013? on: November 29, 2017, 08:21:38 PM
Hi,

A few years ago I bought some Bitcoin to buy a subscription. I think there was a fraction of Bitcoin in change.
I never bothered with this, but now it could be worth looking at.

I have this info in a text file:

A long pass phrase
A password
An identifier string
Bitcoin address
deposit into address
blockchain.info

Any idea how I could use this to try and find out if I have any Bitcoin?

Thanks,

Floob.

You can use the bitcoin adress on https://blockchain.info/ and see if there's any balance.

If so, it might be worth trying to login here -> https://blockchain.info/wallet/#/ with the identifier + your passphrase / password.

I believe only blockchain.info uses an identifier like that, so your bitcoins are probably stored there.

Do you by any chance also have a long list of random words? (And by list i mean 12-13 words.)

If so, try and import those words into a wallet such as electrum, to see if that wallet holds any bitcoin. https://electrum.org/#home

(Although i'm not too sure if electrum supports the bip seed generation of blockchain.info by default. If not you'll need to try it in a different hardware wallet.)

Hi all

I've created a wallet, moved some btc to it.
Now I've created a cold storage on an offline computer using my seed and manually moved my wallet-file to this computer. The transaction history and btc balance is showing.
Then I've exported the public key to an online computer and created a watching only wallet. This wallet is not showing my transaction history and balance. What did I do wrong?
I've tried to delete my watching only wallet and recreating it from the public key, but balance and history still isn't showing up.
Need help people. Thanks in advance.

Edit: Forgot to mention it's on Electrum v. 3.0.2

Backthespace

Not sure what the error could be, you might have used the wrong public key, or you are using a "Non-deterministic watch-only wallet" when you should use a "Deterministic watch-only wallet", as you stated that you're using electrum.

Are you sure you're using your MPK ( Master Public Key) when trying to create a watch-only adress?

So i bought 0.1 bitcoin from bitstamp.Withdrawed it too my HW wallet address but apparently bitstamp has an option for HW wallet address that i didnt use.the transaction says finished but i didnt receive my bitcoins..what can i do now?

Look up your transaction and see if it actually got confirmed, and if it got confirmed to the adress you sent it to. It might be that your bitcoin transaction has been broadcasted, but not yet confirmed, hence why it shows up as bitstamp as "finished", and not yet in your wallet.

If you don't mind me asking, what wallet are you using, and what is your transaction ID?
2240  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to properly manage my private key (pre-all forks) to get ALL future forks? on: November 29, 2017, 06:19:20 PM
Quote
Or can i use the one original "A" (pre-all-forks) private key to claim any other future (or current) fork of bitcoin?

This would depend on a number of factors which are defined by the fork(er):

1. When the snapshot is made ( today, one year ago, or 2010)

2. How they decide to reward the coins.  ( through a snapshot usually )

So you will need the private keys of the adress you had bitcoins on yesterday, if there had been a snapshot for an upcoming fork yesterday.

If you keep/ have kept all your bitcoins in Private key A, then yes, that key should be sufficient to claim coins from any bitcoin fork.
