The main thing is we are all free men here, even if some of us behave like that Germanic chap from Seneca with the sponge.

Point taken on so many levels, I may choke to death from all-consuming gales of laughter shitposts.

observing €9760 on stamp. I warned in July that €10k could be a barrier for a while and stop our nice little run-up back then. I want to assert that next time we cross €10k it most likely will not be such a barrier anymore. probably last chance to buy btc for 4 figure €...

Well done 600watt! I would suggest you create a thread outside the WO. You could help a few more bitcoiners with this list. Either way, I'm quoting this as a future reference. And then a question: given the huge amount of sources, what would you personally suggest to start with?
Thank you very much

Thanks for that 600watt - so many sources of info, so little time. It is striking, though, just how much easier it is to find info on bitcoin now compared to years past. Although there is now the problem of too many poorly researched sources or, worse still, self-declared experts spouting their take on things they haven't fully understood (a bit like nulius, sorry couldn't resist  Tongue)

I've just downloaded a few of the Bitcoin Audible episodes you recommended and will listen to them while going for a run this afternoon (I find audiobooks and podcasts help as a distraction against muscle pain, too).

I remember searching for bitcoin news years ago when useful info was hard to come by and one of the top search results led me to....the WO!

lots of info but limited time, you are right: that problem sounds familiar. this is why podcasts are getting more traction imho: listen while doing something else like running is great. it is also addictive. you end up running longer and more often this way...

Consciousness expands
Psilocybin mushroom quest

I always loved shrooms
in unoccupied nature
and LSD too

Drugs tell no truths.  They do not “expand” consciousness, but dissolve it.  They can turn you into a superstitious nitwit, with voluntarily self-inflicted mental retardation plus schizophrenia.  That is all.

Nobody here said that drugs tell truths.
Especially the two "drugs" i referred to.
What they do is take the "filtering layer" of your ego away for some time.
Clearly, taking away a filter means expanding consciousness, doesn't it?
I explicitly take other drugs, especially amphetamines, opioids, tranquilizers out of this equation, but psilocybin and LSD (LSA) are none of what you think they are.

Now, the ego, the mental entity that keeps talking trash and showing you pictures of future and the past, keeps you from learning and developing your spirit (aka. higher self, or whatever one may call it), which is often reffered to as (uncontrolled) "inner dialog", clearly is a sign of (common) psychosis. The root of many mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, violent thoughts/behaviour, many other bad manifestations.
Now tell me, isn't that a clear sign of psychosis?
You and your likes want to tell me who is the retarded, schizophrenic type here? LOL

There's another aspect:
Life is a journey and you let other people tell you what to miss out and why?
Congratulations. But stop talking about "freedom" then.
If i don't harm anybody, i have the fucking right to do anything i want.

EDIT: re-reading my post i have to add that none of the above is meant offensive. There's just again, two opinions of us two, and i dearly hope we are both right  Grin

warning: nullius-sized post follows; I tried my best to keep it engaging

nullius, all you are doing is highlighting your ignorance of the subject. have a fantastic morning.

No doubt more than a few people would call me “ignorant” of Jesus.

The difference between Jesus and drugs is drugs are real.

The inversion of reality to proclaim inferiority and irrationality as superior knowledge is—typical of a certain type.

Nobody is doing that except for you. Since you're big on editing peoples' quotes to make them say what you want them to say:

Who the fuck would be sufficiently moronic to believe the opinion of somebody who has used hallucinogenic substances been to France, on the subject of hallucinogenic substances visiting France?

You've never tripped on LSD or mushrooms, you've never been to France, so there's no possible way you could know what its about more than someone who has. All the books in the world - all your personal assessments of friends who have visited France - are no substitute for first-hand, real life experience.

And I should know because I graduated from a fairly prestigious university with a neuroscience degree and worked in a number of laboratories/clinics; specifically relating psychopharmacology and psychiatry. I learned quite a bit about drug toxicity, which drugs effect what categories of neurotransmitters, dosages, psychological effects, etc. But nothing can prepare you for or educate you like the first-hand experience of trying a drug out for yourself.

I also worked with a professor who discovered the part of the brain which was responsible for safeguarding the brain against addiction. Certain types of drugs selectively ate away at this part of the brain (stimulants, MDMA and nicotine mainly) whereas others did not (marijuana, LSD, shrooms and just about everything else). Some drugs simply aren't toxic on the brain, including most hallucinogens. Among those who actually study the issue its been a long settled debate.

And there is a pretty good historical hypothesis that much religiosity has been caused by “naturally occurring” drugs—much more Amanita muscaria than psilocybin.  Hmmm.

Funny, I've done both and I'm still not religious. If anything they've opened my mind to the possibility that maybe I don't know everything and I don't have it all figured out.

The problem is you are trying to lump all drugs (illegal drugs apparently) into the same category. It reflects no real desire to understand the differences between drugs, which are quite vast, and that's why you come across as an ignoranus.

Sure, doing too much of anything can be bad -- there's no denying that. But your approach of dismissing all drugs in any amount as bad is extremely narrow-minded and mainly guided by your usual arrogance... It's like what you don't know you think you can compensate for by being arrogant about it.

Alcohol is also a drug and far more toxic to the body and brain than marijuana, shrooms or acid -- that's an indisputable fact. But I suppose you're cool with it because its legal? What else could be your rationalization? People drop dead from alcohol poisoning every hour of every day. You know how many people have been killed by weed or shrooms*, ever? Take a guess.

Several of the world's greatest artists, musicians, authors, playwrights were inspired by psychedelics. I dread the thought of how boring the world would be without them.

As far as other drugs are concerned, some of the world's most famous inhabitants owe their inventions and works to them.

Thomas Edison - cocaine addict
Nietzsche - opium addict
Jean-Paul Sartre - mescaline enthusiast
Churchill / JFK / Ayn Rand - amphetamine users

Kafka and Huxley were both multi-substance abusers, Carl Sagan was a weed smoker; even Steve Jobs was partially fueled by LSD.

So the idea that doing drugs necessarily burns one's brain out is patently false. Can you burn your brain out from doing certain drugs? Certainly. Just like you can become a diabetic from eating too many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. But we shouldn't castigate people for enjoying a sandwich every now and then.

* I left out LSD from here because indeed one dude overdosed on acid once and died. He found a baggie of it in powder form and thinking it was coke, snorted a line, inhaling 30,000 doses or something. He died of a heart attack an hour or so later. Regardless, more people have died from choking on sardines.

my favorite is Guy Swann since he is reading a lot of interesting and mainly essential bitcoin writings and sometimes interviews the authors later.

https://anchor.fm/thecryptoconomy*

*it is now called bitcoinaudible.com but the anchor link above presents it better imho. indeed, Guy started his podcast in March 2018. that is just 2.5 years ago.

most bitcoin podcasters seem to be married to Austrian economics. has anyone heard of a good btc podcast that tries to do this from a Keynesian point of view? I don't get why Keynes is hated so much by bitcoiners. I don't think he was wrong. government intervention in economic crisis is good imho. what governments worldwide did not do was the other thing that is part of keynes theory: in healthy economic periods governments should save capital in order to have dry powder for the next crisis. the governments just kept spending and printing more money.

That's a pretty easy one... I should read ahead since it may have been answered better than I will.

But I would say the reason why is Keynesian systems basically work on debt and constant monetary inflation in the hopes among other things to increase velocity.  Case in point negative interest rates... a Keynesian end game measure that makes no sense until you understand they are useful to keep people from SAVING value.  At least in the monetary system that is run that way.  The encourage spending, and the creation of more debt which increases monetary velocity, and supposedly also creates better "wealth distribution".

Bitcoin on the other hand is at it's very core kind of anti Keynesian.  Absolutely hard with a known cap.  It encourages people to store value and save.  And would arguably decrease monetary velocity.  Paul Krugman is a Keynesian.  And he hates bitcoin because it goes against all of what he believes as the right monetary policies.

I am not saying that there can't be Keynesian bitcoiners.  Some people here are Keynsian whether they know it or not... But Bitcoin is definitely a polarizing force.

If you are a leftist you will find a lot of what Keynesian systems prioritize meshing with your values... It is also why so many libertarians got into bitcoin early.

Not into drugs. Not even into alcohol, despite the forum nick.

But...

I so vividly remember the very first time (one of the very few times) I've smoked cannabis. 1st-year uni student, in my girlfriend's dorm room (she wasn't even my girlfriend then), together with 2 more couples. Some lying on the bed, some on the floor, passing joints between us. Nirvana playing loud (on a cassette tape!). One of the best experiences in my life. I will never forget it. And her. Don't know where she is now. Wish I could meet her again. Sweet, kind, free girl.

Memories...

For those who were here during the glorious days of Carolina 2017, that's for you.
If you were there, here's the memories to go with the tingles, if you weren't, just get a load of what you missed.

Are we CCMF, gentlemen?
I Googled CCMF and came up with Carolina Country Music Fest! Is that what it means? LOL!  Cheesy

It all started with my post above...
