Merit & new rank requirements

I might take the bait if I can find enough free time non-compromised over the next weekend. What I think would be nice is to sum it up based on what I already show on the Merit Dashboard. Even if the information is there for all to see, it is likely easier to view when placed in a single post, highlighting what is relevant.

I can anticipate what my main four thoughts are:

1) The Merit System is good to reduce spam and limit ranking to those that do little to earn it now days. I believe that anyone who wants to be merited can be merited at some point (wanting and obviously putting effort into trying).
 
Haste is often shown, and often turns into ranting about the system itself, but it took me nearly two months to get my first merit, so I wouldn’t except things to be necessarily fast.

2) Ranking speed is probably an issue for those that desire to rank-up, especially for Full Members and above (and extremely difficult from Hero to Legendary).

3) All the initially unspent airdropped sMerit could perhaps be used unwisely in the future. I mean, if after a year, the initial sMerit airdrop remains unspent or barely touched, it doesn’t really seem to be doing any good there, and could potentially be used for foul play at some point.

4) Local boards are tricky to get a grasp of in terms of merit equilibrium, and efforts have been done to place Merit Sources there.

On my local board for example there is only one 100% local board merited Full Member (plus a few lower ranked).

On the other hand, the board is not very active. The merit distribution there is fair, and those that do get merited there have to earn it on every single post. On the plus side, it is easier to stand-out due to the (unfortunate) lack of overwhelming competitor posts. There are also a couple of Merit Sources that are active there, so my local board can hardly complain really.

I don't have any plan as well.  

However there is something happening right now with the amount of merit awarded( kind of expected ), after the introduction of the new trust system / DT selection process. Perhaps it's too soon, but in a few weeks would be interesting to see something about it.

It might be better if you can scrap the total unused airdropped sMerits into two parts:
- the first part, for all active users.
- the second parts, for inactive users (more than one year). The part likely comes from hacked accounts, and might be used unwisely.

This isn't really possible: theymos airdropped 600k sMerit, but it's not published how many each account received, and Merit source amounts are more or less a secret.

I don't remember exactly but I read somewhere months ago that thanks disclosed that the rate of sMerits airdropped depends on both ranks and total active time within last one year before the launch of merit system.
Lots of users [heroes] complained about they got only 500 merits, then theymos decided to make additional airdropped merits to Heroes who have total active time above specific threshold.

As @LoyceV stated, we cannot know who received what amount of airdropped sMerit. @theymos disclosed the formula, but not on a per forum member basis (see Initial sMerit for every rank?).

Wow, it's really somewhat laborious to get started here and catch up. It's a pity that previous misbehavers have made that nesessary.

Grinding merits is extremely difficult, but defined possible: it’s kind of war of attrition, you put a lot of effort into this, often you can’t see any progress, you write what you think are beautifully crafted post that get almost no attention ofr merits, while sometimes you write a post via mobile, the right thing at the right time and you get a lots of merits.  Hopefully in the long run quality get recognition and eventually ranking up is possible.

Post countes doesn't determine you been able to include images in post.  You need just one merit to rank up to jnr member. or you can buy a copper membership and you'll be able to include images in your post.

Today will be a great day to earn that merit if you post right.  Happy merit anniversary

Hello and welcome to the forums I guess.

Start by reading the first posts of the threads you're replying and at least the last 10 (if not 20) comments before you post.
I've check some random posts of yours and it seems you visit thread by reading only the title, then ask things which are answered in the opening post. Don't do that!

Also think of a subject you're familiar and experienced with and find threads related to this subject. Posting helpful posts is the only legit way of receiving merits and you can only be helpful to others if you have knowledge of the subject. Making a new thread (ONLY) if you have a good idea is also good.
If you're not good with the English language, then stick with your local board, the chances to receive merits with broken English are thin.

Your posting history seems to denote that you are interested in earning a single merit to become a Jr. Member and that’s about it. I think your posting history contains an indication as to what merit implies: the oil painting that you have in your posting history, in which you state to have invested over 200 hours.

While obviously no one is expected to spend that much time on a single post (although some posts that iterate updates surely surpass it), the painting looks fine to me, and one can tell that you put effort and time into it. That adds up to merit by my criteria. Now all that remains is that the analogy be applied to your posting style and content ...

Not how you can earn one merit, the question is how to earn merits. Anyone who can earn one can equally earn another and more with more posts
Put more effort into your posting, and improve your grammar.
Choose a section and learn more about it.
Brush up your post history. Some delete their previous posts and start off clean.
Don't beg for merits.

 Required merit is too too much. I have been a "hero member" for a long time now but because of the 500+ merit requirement I can't seem to get anywhere near that level. Its almost impossible to reach to 500+ merit. I think it should be lowered by a lot.
