I thought Devda could receive the generation shares?
I've been looking forward to this so much over the last month - I can't believe it - don't mean to complain but I'm pretty devastated.
Perhaps they do not show because generation shares have to mature first? Aaah yes that makes sense. *facepalm*

Does anyone know where the receiver files are meant to go on mac os x?
No, but, in general if you locate yourself (change directrory to; use the cd command) where they are, it will pick them up and put them where it actually wants them. So basically if you compiled from a taraball it should have come with a bunch of them, in the main dir of the tarball. Both tarballs contain enough receiver files to get you started, so if you fire up the program while sitting right there it should pick them up and put them wherever it likes to put its datadir on your type of system, in a subdir named receiver of the data dir. You could also try searching for wallet.dat, as where it ends up putting them should be in subdir named receiver of the dir where the wallet.dat is kept. (If you have many coin types on your system, you'll need to guess which one is the devcoin one, hopefully the directory will have "devcoin" somewhere in its name to help you figure that part out.) If mac os X is as similar to Linux as I have sometimes heard, then try looking for ~/.devcoin (a directory named .devcoin in the home directory of the user who runs devcoin.) The receiver files go in a subdirectoty named receiver inside that directory. -MarkM-

I have copies of the receiver files in several of those places, so I'm starting to think that that isn't the problem. The client is stuck at block 76221, which was mined well before I got devcoin, and I have only ever used it to get an address. I downloaded devcoin-qt from one of the links on devtome and built it with qt creator. This has worked fine for other altcoin clients, so I'm not really sure what I've done wrong.

I wouldn't say I did that - but thanks for your help judging by my earnings so far... 7 blocks in 42 from 17 shares... i would have pooped my pants to in fact i was scrambling to the computer this morning checking for an update on my devcoins and pleased to see its all coming through better buy up those DVB shares at cryptostocks b4 they all go would be nice to see more listings for devcoin investment... any bounties for listings? or does any listing count as a business and hence entitled to the devcoin business bounty? many thanks to markm and unthinkingbit for getting me involved in devcoins when i did

It picks a random lbock number at which to go get next set of receiver files, I think it would have been round 19 it would have already got before reaching block 76000, then sometime before block 8000 it would try to get round 20. Possibly block 76221 is the random block number at which it decided to do that. Is the receivers list number 20 in the receiver subdirectory of the data directory? Extra copies of receiver files lying around elsewhere it likely will not even be seeing, unless by change they happen to be in the directrory that was the program's "current working directory" when it was run. (In which case it should have copied them to the receiver directory of the data directory). I guess with all the flavours of coins though there is always the weird times when people seem to end up deleting the blockchain and re-getting it from scratch. Hate to blindly try that without knowing the actual problem though. Is there any clue in the debug.log file that is in the data directrory? Does it write something to console maybe about files it got being identical or not? Does it actually have connections? It is not some old version is it? -MarkM-

Mined coins take 100 or 120 blocks ("confirmations") to mature, one is hard number the other is softer number the user interface says/uses.
It is so it would take an insanely huge fork/split/re-organisation to undo "matured" mined coins.

Yes it takes another 100-120 blocks for the generation shares to mature. I believe they come in in a steady stream throughout the round. Are you using devda.ch or a the Devcoin client on your computer?

I just have a question about some articles that writers write on Devtome. Are the articles supposed to be purely factual information, or can the articles be about our own personal experiences. I was just wondering because I have come across some that have a lot of writing about personal experiences which would make it seem more like a blog instead of a wiki for information. Thanks for any help!

.. Well the shares are issued based upon how many valid articles (word count) are submitted. So both I suppose. I am goin to let unthinkinbit be referee on this though so he can throw flags on the play if needed.
I was going to use the shares, which are round(new words/1,000) - round(old words/1,000), but this is not precise and I have the weighted word count saved from around midnight: https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/devtome_10000.csvso the person with the highest extra words will get the tablet. In the unlikely chance that two writers have exactly the same number of extra words, the writer with the most words total will will win. The lottery chance, for the second tablet, will be in proportion to the extra words. While both the bitcoin block hash and the megalotto are almost certainly fair random numbers for small prizes, the megalotto is easier to read, so I'd like to use the megalotto: http://www.megamillions.com/numbers/It's held on Tuesday and Friday, so after the first prize winner is declared, the next lotto after than would be used to determine the lottery winner. I could make a spreadsheet beforehand, so that as soon as the number is drawn, people will know who won. By the way, whoever gets the first prize has a high chance of getting the second prize, and there's a diminishing return to sending someone two tablets. Should the lottery prize be drawn from everyone but the first prize winner?

Are you using devda.ch or a the Devcoin client on your computer? Devda Me too - I think what is happening is we won't receive any coins until the generation shares have matured - as the web based wallet won't include incoming transactions that haven't yet "matured". This is what I am hoping as I didn't anticipate any problem. First generation shares should mature in 40 - 60 blocks - so about 10 hours if my calculations are correct. If we haven't seen anything in 10 hours I will be contacting the devda dev. That's all we can do for now. They really, really, really better come!! UPDATE: sent myself a test transaction and it is looking fine - so the wallet is fine - apparently others have also used Devda wallet in the past for generation shares so I would say we are 90% should be ok.

More than four days have passed, so the portal bounty is now official: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.msg1968335#msg1968335To summarize: 1) The portal page will be on its own domain, with many links from devcoin.org to devtome. 2) The site designer can pick a logo, when we vote for the official logo they will switch to the winner. 3) The bounty is 6 shares, then 3. 4) The ongoing maintenance bounty is 1/5 of a share. Once devtome gets advertising revenue, of the part going to writers according to page views, devcoin.org will get half that amount per page view. Also, devcoin.org should have non intrusive (no animation) advertising from devcoin businesses. Once there are twenty devcoin businesses, the advertising revenue from devtome would be stopped, and devcoin.org would have to rely on its own advertising. Edit: two portals have been made: http://www.devcoin.org/http://show-me-the-devcoin.info/so the portal bounty is finished.

Emfox made a devcoin faucet: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=191553.0I suggest an ongoing payment of 2/5 of a share to Emfox for running the faucet, and 2/5 of a share to the faucet itself. There is no plan to make a second bounty for another faucet, because that would just encourage people to hit both faucets, it would not lessen the administrative work from the first. If Emfox stops the faucet and someone else starts another, then the ongoing payment would be switched to the next faucet. Any objections, or should something be changed? Edit: There were no objections, so the payment is official.
