1081  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 27, 2024, 07:10:42 PM
Let's see what happens under $ 37K.

$ 34K would liquidate and stoploss many traders so it seems likely we'll go there in the short term.

Or not...it's not like you are guaranteeing 37K, or do you?

I would think the mtgox coins would push the market down at least that low, but the markets dive since the latest news that they’re getting close to BTC distributions didn’t last long or go very deep. I hope there’s still some big money on the sidelines to scoop up those gox coins or there could be some pain coming.
1082  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Publicly held Trump trials - ongoing on: January 27, 2024, 07:08:30 PM
The crazy part about this latest Trump witch hunt is that there is actually more evidence that Joe Biden raped Tara Reade and molested his own daughter in the shower than there is that Trump raped this mentally ill weirdo. I’m sure this travesty of justice will be overturned in appeals court because it’s just too ridiculous not to.
1083  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: January 27, 2024, 07:04:50 PM
snip

The Mavs versus Hawks in this rivalry week was also entertaining especially to those who like watching offensive battles.
Luka Doncic with 73 points, Wow!  Shocked 41 1st half points.
After a bad defeat against their rival Phoenix Suns, he poured everything against the other rival Hawks.
Embiid, Luka, and Booker.
Are we even playing defense? Cheesy Well, it sure is entertaining for the new kind of NBA and I bet the Hawks fans are stunned with what happened.

Luka was absolutely incredible in this match. If I am not wrong, We also saw another 70 points from another player a few games ago. So it looks like now it has definitely become easier for the players to have an explosive performance like that. And remember I am saying "easier" compared to the past. Because it is still definitely a very hard work for a player to actually get 70 points in a match.

I am also pretty sure that the hawks fans are definitely very stunned after watching what happened. Let's be honest, if Luca had a little worse performance than he had in this match, it probably would have been a win for Hawks

It isn’t just the scoring by Luka that was impressive. He nearly had a triple double while doing it and he did it on less shots than anyone else before him. The efficiency of his game along with other stats leaves room for the argument that this was the best basketball game played by someone in the post-Wilt era.
1084  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 27, 2024, 07:02:48 PM
Did you guys say saw a new trailer for movie Road House starring Conor McGregor?
Now it is official, he is not an mma fighter anymore, he is now an actor  Grin
https://youtu.be/Y0ZsLudtfjI
I came here to post that and seems you are the first one who found it. While this is just a trailer and we saw McGregor for a few seconds, I have to admit that he already left an amazing impression on me as a person who tried acting in the Hollywood movie for the first time. He would be a very cool actor. By the way, his UFC pre-fight events was always full of acting.

I thought it was the rumor about him being the next James Bond. But in this movie, he is the villain which suits him though. This must be the next career choice since he can't go back to fighting. That's why people doubt his comeback fight with Chandler

This is the video he posted after snorting 10 grams of coke. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylx_hV648J0 which is also the source of that rumor as well.

And if he does come back to fight Chandler, I doubt that he'll win...  Even at 185, the weight class where McGregor wants to fight him.  I think he just doesn't want to cut weight anymore and all these events he wants to headline are just for him to get as much money as he can before he calls it quits with the UFC.

With all the money he's made, he should've bought some shares of the UFC and be part of the company.

Anyway here's a replay of one of the headliners next weekend...  Dolidze vs Hermansson.

UFC Free Fight:  Dolidze vs Hermansson
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6uEfU_0u0g

Word on the street is that UFC 300 will feature a fight between Chandler and McGregor. It is also rumored that they will be fighting in a new weight class at 165 lbs while the 170 lb weight class is being removed and replaced with 165 & 175 lb weight classes. Seems like the UFC wants to make more champions.
1085  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: gambling for fun vs gambling for the financial benefit. on: January 27, 2024, 07:40:18 AM
I’m an odds guy and I see it like this. If you are gambling for fun, you’ll probably have something like a 95% success rate. If you are gambling for profit, you’ll probably have a 10% success rate. Each method gives you the same return financially. Choose wisely.
1086  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: January 27, 2024, 05:49:38 AM
Luka Doncic!!! He really wanted to break the post Kobe scoring record held by Devon Booker and he pulled it off tonight. WOW. 73 points and a victory. Between Joel Embiid’s performance earlier in the week and now this you have to wonder if this signals a bit of a change in how defenses are defending stars. Will anyone ever break Wilt’s mark?
1087  Economy / Speculation / Re: What are your expectations for the few weeks after the halving period? on: January 26, 2024, 05:30:17 PM
My expectations for the halving are similar to how I felt about the ETF approvals. Likely we’ll see a price drop from people taking profits after a runup to the event. Then after about a year we start seeing the mother of all bubbles build as supply overwhelms demand. I am very much expecting October 2024-November 2025 to be the most bullish period in BTC’s history. Possibly sooner if the gox coins are distributed prior to the halving.
1088  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2023-2024 betting on: January 26, 2024, 05:27:15 PM
After looking at today’s schedule I think the only game I’d feel comfortable about betting on would be the Los Angeles Clippers to beat the Toronto Raptors. All the other games look pretty evenly matched up and could go either way. I think for that reason today might not be the greatest day to gamble on NBA games.
1089  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: January 26, 2024, 05:25:34 PM
Curry is averaging 26.8 points per game this season. So he is as good as ever and is still the leader of the team. I think the Warriors' poor results this season are primarily the result of controversial decisions by their management. One of those decisions was signing Green to a 100 million dollar contract.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Warriors started a total roster rebuild in the near future, and the only one who remained from the current roster would be Curry.

Curry stats is still good if we compared him to other regular players that is not on a star level. But we should admit that his skills is already deteriorating or simply not that impactful unlike before when he is young and relying too much to his teammates just to create a space on his own.

His 3pt shooting is already same with other star players since most of the players focusing on 3s too. He is not giving huge impact in the game compared to his younger version regardless of who is his teammates. Warriors shooting is already not that lethal while they lack of good center which is the current meta nowadays on NBA. Warriors is in a great disadvantage considering how strong teams now build their roster.

I don’t think we’re seeing a decline in Steph’s abilities as much as his teammates are no longer carrying their weight. Steph is having to carry the Warriors on his back this year with Draymond and Klay seemingly no longer able to perform at the highest level. I think the dynasty is over and they need to figure out some way to sign Giannis.
1090  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 26, 2024, 05:15:55 PM
Looks like the rubber might be hitting the road a little bit for the first time since the ETFs dropped. A nice little 5% pop this morning to stop the bleeding. Congrats to those who scooped up a little more BTC below $40K. I think we may not have seen the last of sub-40K pricing, but I feel like it’s a decent risk reward or entry point for ETF buys.

Tyrese Haliburton
Damian Lillard

Western Conference starters
LeBron James

Nikola Jokic
Luka Doncic
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Source: https://www.nba.com/news/2024-nba-all-star-starters-announced

Finally, 2024 NBA All-Star starters announced. Almost all players are expected picks except maybe Lillard-Brunson. Trae Young fan rank was also too high but media and players didn't pick him that high. I think fan votes should have higher weight for starters. The game is played for fans in the end.

I know the players appreciate being voted by their peers. Durant tweeted as much earlier today. I’m sure they appreciate the fan vote too. They don’t seem too thrilled about the media though. Most of these guys have developed a bit of a hateful relationship with the reporters covering their teams.
1092  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What do you think about the freedom of speech in the USA? on: January 25, 2024, 11:32:54 PM
Freedom of speech is overall a good thing.  The oppression of people's ability to spread information should never be tolerated by society.  However, many people use this along with the internet to harass or spread lies about people.  This is wrong and shouldn't be tolerated, but you can't expect everyone to dive head first into drama to figure out who the liar is.  This is why I feel that society needs to bring back the acceptance of people being punched in the face.  Nowadays if you bump someone walking by them it can be considered assault.  When I was a kid you'd beat someone bloody and then shake hands afterwards.  People are just way too comfortable spreading lies nowadays without fear of being punched in the face.  I think this needs to make a comeback in society.  Punching liars in the face should be welcomed by society, not looked down upon.  I fear that instead we're going to see a massive increase in the enforcement of libel laws, which will make lawyers happy and overwhelm courts with nonsense...

and nobody will offer a better solution that the majority can agree upon.

I don't think theymos takes our opinions too seriously Cheesy. He does what he has to do even if the majority were to disagree. I think that at some point in the future, we could wake up to a new trust system. But until then, everybody's best weapon to fight abuse is to get involved in the trust system and, obviously, grow some balls.

I've offered a better plan, it's just that "policing" this forum gives people with a god complex a hard-on and they've spent unimaginable amounts of time manipulating the trust network to get into power.  They will not let a change go easily and since most of them utilized many alt accounts to get them where they are in the trust network, their opinion is overstated publicly here.

When theymos added flags, he added a negative to the network that wasn't countered with a positive.  Meaning you have 2 ways to damage someone's reputation, but only one way (positive trust ratings) to support.  The obvious solution is to remove negative trust ratings and let people be judged by how many people trust them, not how many trolls they've offended.  Scammers can still be labeled with trust flags and new users won't be harassed by those seeking to tag everyone they can to prove some sort of value here, chasing away users in the process and making this place an overall negative place to build on ideas.

I'm not sure why the trust system has been left fundamentally flawed for so long, or why negativity is prioritized over positivity here, but it is the result of actions taken by the administration and is 100% fixable with a simple change to level the playing field. It has been proven that DT members are unable to act responsibly as evidenced from my own trust ratings (find me someone on this forum who has demonstrated more trustworthiness than myself, spoiler alert: you can't) and it's wild to me that negativity is still coveted more than positivity right down to the trust network here, especially when it's clear that mentally ill users have found their way into DT due to malicious support from spineless members.  It trickles down, chases away talent, and darkens the atmosphere here by the day.

OGNasty needs to be kicked out, too.

Oh no, airdrop guy doesn't like me.  Shocked Cheesy
1094  Economy / Economics / Re: The savings problem on: January 25, 2024, 10:46:42 PM
I just read an article that stated 44% of Americans don't have the savings to handle an unexpected $1,000 bill.  This seems shocking to me.  Certainly this can't be totally true...  The article even argued that it is against human nature to save.  I'm not sure I believe that.  As a saver, I feel the opposite.  I think human beings are meant to save and make sure their future will be provided for.  However, companies spend billions of dollars advertising to get you to spend your savings on their products.  Society has been trained to not save and chase the Kardashians by buying overpriced goods.  Just know this fact and do better.  It makes it easier to get ahead in the end...
1095  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling all about luck? on: January 25, 2024, 10:43:02 PM
Gambling mostly depends on a individual and his game management. Cause some games are totally on luck like slot machines! No need skill just try luck and some samilar games  available. then Cricket, football, basketball are kind of games where a gamble can calculate team performance and only can predict what could going to happened but things will depend on players, so this is also kind of luck and kind of skill matters. Then blackjack, rolloet depends on luck but also how strategic a gambler are! And with experience and Stategy, a gamble can make result in his favor, in my opinion

While knowing when to quick is surely considered a skill in gambling, I'm not sure the actual game is anything but luck.  2 players with the same strategy could see entirely different outcomes just based on the amount of luck they have.  Sure, some will say that there is a science to it, but at the end of the day gambling is about odds, and odds are just the expression of luck.  Whether someone beats the odds or not (or gets lucky in other words) is typically the deciding factor on whether or not someone wins money, especially over time considering the odds (or luck) is skewed towards the house.
1096  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What You will do in this situation? on: January 25, 2024, 10:40:38 PM
If you were in this situation, what would you do? Introduce him to sports betting or let him stick to playing slots. Yesterday, I just let it go but we still often meet at other activities.

Not a bad idea to introduce him to sports betting but actually, it's out of our business anymore. Playing slots regularly as you noticed, that guy is aware of sports betting but instead, he is focused on playing slots. It means the interest in sports betting is not there.

He will also have a hard time keeping up with the gambling part in sports betting as even how good he is at doing analysis, there are lots of betting options in a certain match and likely, some of his analysis will fall on a not worthy odds to consider. Therefore, he needs to do another analysis again just to be able to ride the preferred odds he wants.

I would hesitate to come off as though you know something he doesn't.  If the guy is gambling playing slots on his phone at work, don't you think he is already aware that he could be betting on sporting events?  Especially considering you say he already watches sports and gambles...  It's quite possible he enjoys the immediate dopamine rush of a win with slots.  They do provide more sounds and lights, etc.  Maybe he's just trying to pass some time and get a quick pick me up in his mood.  I would imagine it's also possible that he already engages in sports betting, but playing slots is likely much more recognizable an activity.
1097  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fixedfloat is scamming me for 8000+ EUR IMPORTANT PSA! on: January 25, 2024, 09:23:27 PM
I have no intention of either using their services or recommending them. They literally destroyed their reputation with their own hands over something that was not even necessary.

Probably a good call to avoid using services like this unless you have to.  Even then, it's a clear risk, especially after reading this thread.  The problem seems to me like it stems from people trying to use these exchanging services as if they were mixers, which they are not.  For someone operating a service like this and wanting to keep it running, I could see why they'd start at least trying to make sure that dirty funds aren't being laundered through this service.  This is also a good demonstration of how 1 BTC does not equal 1 BTC.  Not over time, not any time.  It is a shame though.  How long before censorship creeps into blockchain software...
1098  Economy / Speculation / Re: Post-ETF effect: Has Bitcoin Bottomed yet? on: January 25, 2024, 08:42:29 PM
I think with so many coins set to hit the market when mtgox finally does its distribution, that will have to mark the bottom. I suspect we’ll see obvious signs of capitulation with a volume spike before the price can go up again in a big way. They just have so many coins to distribute, it’ll have to be a major market event.
1099  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2023-2024 betting on: January 25, 2024, 08:26:12 PM
I like the Minnesota Timberwolves over the Brooklyn Nets and the Utah Jazz over the Washington Wizards tonight. Probably not the greatest odds but those should be fairly easy games. I’m tempted to pick the Boston Celtics over the Miami Heat too but Miami seems to always surprise me so maybe I’ll sit that one out today.

I don’t think I’d trust a web3 casino, not necessarily because the casino did anything wrong but because it is so easy to make a mistake in web3 and grant a permission that could result in losing everything in your wallet. If you know what you’re doing it’s fine, but for casuals I think web3 is a recipe for absolute disaster of your wallet funds.
