2381  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: A virus infected laptop, how safe? on: March 24, 2023, 10:33:44 PM
I want to know if something bad could happen to a hardware wallet that's been plugged into a laptop with a detected virus using an antivirus software, is there any possible treat using an hardware wallet on such laptop? What and what can someone do next to be able to operate the hardware wallet on the Laptop.
It all depends what type of hardware wallet you are using and what software wallet is connected with your device to make transactions.
Virus can't infect your hardware wallet from computer, but there is a chance keylogger can detect what you are typing on keyboard and use that to collect information they can use against you.
For example, Trezor One hardware wallet must use computer keyboard for certain operations, and that could potentially expose passphrases or pins.
That is one of the reasons I won't suggest anyone to buy Trezor, but any closed source hardware wallet can be even worse black box.

My suggestion is to use dedicated laptop with LinuxOS (best if offline)and use it only for crypto, that way you have minimal chances of infecting anything.
Most viruses are made for wInd0ws OS, that is why I recommend everyone to switch to some Linux distribution like Fedora, Debian or Mint for beginners.
2382  Economy / Exchanges / Re: PeachBitcoin P2P mobile app on: March 24, 2023, 10:12:50 PM
Probably because this is one of the projects that does not care about the lawsuits and intimidation of Craig Wright.
Is Faketoshi still doing this failed lawsuit circus thing?
I don't follow news around him so much, so maybe he returned working in agriculture and growing vegetables like in past  Cheesy

Full disclosure for current version of PeachBitcoin, last information I saw is that orderbook information is stored for 10 years, probably because of some Swiss law.
Peach is closed source so we don't know what is happening inside app, but there are some good rumors they are preparing to release everything as open source, but let's wait and see.
Close beta testing for Peach is completed, and app v 0.2.2 is now latest version available in public.
2383  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: March 24, 2023, 09:50:42 PM
Interestingly, a lot of Chipmixer clone pages still exist, and were not part of this investigation. one might think that it is a selective fight against the illegal use of mixing services, But this is not correct (I guess).
Who knows, maybe they are running few of this fake CM websites, it's not the first time government would do something like that.

Almost exactly the same errors.
It's almost looks like it's the same script with different actors, but I really don't trust whole story they presented in public, and I think they mixed (funny term) some truth with lot of speculations and fiction.

If you seize a server, you have no choice to have data of something. And if you're a law enforcement why should you refuse to collect data...
Unless you don't want to do your job...
Main question for me now is what are law enforcement agencies going to do with all this seized Bitcoins.
They can arbitrary decide that magically all this coins are not ''tainted'' anymore and they could sell them in auction or dump in some exchange.
Does anyone have wallet addresses so we can track any potential movement before they release anything in public?
2384  Other / Archival / Re: [ANN] [banned mixer] - Best Bitcoin Mixer / Bitcoin Tumbler on: March 24, 2023, 09:39:33 PM
We are waiting for your feedback. Have a nice day!
I am still having a lot of issues accessing Mixero clearnet website, it loads non-stop and page is not opening at all, so I am guessing that is somehow related with cloudflare.
On different browser (Firefox based) I can see cloudlfare checkbox and  after clicking check box website loads normally.
Onion version Mixero page works fine for me with Tor browser.
2385  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism Vs Scam on: March 24, 2023, 09:24:08 PM
So my question is now is the crime of plagiarism more offensive than scamming? Huh
If something is not clearly defined in forum rules than it can't be any punishment for that, even if it is a scam.
Maybe I would like to have this rule added but when you think about it this could open whole new can of worms, and many regular members could get banned for nothing.
For plagiarism everything is clear, it's stealing work of someone else, but you can't really compared plagiarism with scam, and there are other cases for getting banned, like death threats for example.
2386  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Guy buys Ledger on Amazon... his crypto gets stolen... on: March 24, 2023, 12:50:15 AM
guy bought Ledger off Amazon... his device prompted him to go to a phishing website, his coins got stolen
Scammers prefer Ledger, one more reason not to buy ledger devices.
I watched the video you posted, but I think this story is very suspicious, and this reminds me on those stories with people ''losing'' all coins on ''boating accidents'', maybe with purpose of avoiding paying taxes.
Looking at all his videos I can see he was very active recently, creating videos all that time and most of them are about some shitcoin investment... that just shows you how ''smart'' he is.  Roll Eyes
One example:

I might have skipped it since he always talks and don't show the proofs in the video, but I'm curious how much the stolen coin from his ledger. The only pic he shares is just the price of the ledger in its official website. I myself think it's just a clickbait video where he takes advantage of recent skyrocketting bitcoin price.
It's probably clickbait, but looking at reddit comments I came to conclusion that average ledger wallet customers don't have highest IQ and similar things are happening all the time.
Anyway, I feel sorry for everyone who lose coins like this and I hope they learn a valuable lesson.

2387  Other / Archival / Re: WasabiWallet.io | Open-source, non-custodial Bitcoin Wallet for desktop on: March 24, 2023, 12:31:05 AM
A centralized coinjoin coordinator is more censorship resistant than a centralized custodian because a coinjoin coordinator is not able to give your coins or reveal any user data to a government even if they were forced to.
That is true, but they can also shut them down at any time, accuse them for anything they want and put them in jail.
Joinmarket developers can be anonymous and it's going to be much harder to identify and stop that, similar like with torrents.
Why don't you instead contribute more to JoinMaker and projects like jamapp.org?

I know Wasabi developers were against CoinControl for their new version, to ''prevent'' user mistakes, but it looks like something changed.
Wasabi wallet just returned optional Coin Control feature with their newest version update 2.0.3 that was released few days ago, with bunch of other bug fixes:

2388  Other / Meta / Re: Changing password and mail wrong thing? on: March 23, 2023, 11:15:51 PM
MainIbem you posted a lot of Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses in forum since year 2017, and if you can prove ownership of this addresses than nobody will suspect you purchased this account.
Your long periods of forum inactivity, your post history and asking questions like this could be suspicious for some members, so better get those addresses ready, unless you also conveniently lose them  Roll Eyes

PS
There is nothing wrong with changing email address and connected account password, that should be unique and randomly generated.
2389  Other / Meta / Re: Ninjastic.space - BitcoinTalk Post/Address archive + API on: March 23, 2023, 10:44:30 PM
As the title of replies start with Re:, you should be able to exclude them with adding -"Re:" to "Post title" field.
dkbit98 should be able to see the topics that have been made by him and include the word "moderator" in the title using this link.
Thank you buddy, you actually found a workaround even Ninja could not!  Wink
Your suggestion actually worked out great for what I was looking for, and I even tested it with few other phrases for double confirmation.

If you only want to search the titles, you can use CTRL-F on the forum page Search topics.
This could also work, but for some reason this page is showing weird colors on my dark theme in browser, so it's almost unreadable.
It's strange because all other pages on bitcointalk forum are dark except this one.  Tongue

I have the posts, but I can't 100% say that post 32717 is the OP of topic 2423. Of course, I could do like you said and assume the first post is the OP, but searching that on-the-fly is a bit tricky. Maybe I can pre-index that info for every topic and tag it as "possible the OP, but not sure"... I'll see. Smiley
No pressure if you are busy TryNinja.
2390  Other / Meta / Re: Ninjastic.space - BitcoinTalk Post/Address archive + API on: March 22, 2023, 07:11:38 PM
Is this what you want to do?
No.
Please refrain from answering further, I explained it clearly in my previous post and I specifically asked TryNinja for help.
Thank you.
2391  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: ledger nano with electrum - from old to new PC on: March 22, 2023, 05:28:31 PM
once I've checked that all this works I might upgrade the current ledger as well. am I being too cautious?
I would not waste money on ledger closed source hardware wallets, especially not on ledge model nano X that is notorious for many problems with battery.
Ledger nano S is not manufactured anymore and it is probably going to be unusable soon, since ledger is slowly increasing size of their apps all the time.
There are several open source alternative hardware wallets that are in my opinion better, for example Passport, Keystone, Bitbox, Trezor, etc.

Hey there TryNinja, I have one question for you.
How is it possible for me to search specific terms from title of topics I or any other member created?

For example, I want to search the term ''moderator'' but only for topics I created, that means all other topic from other members would be excluded from results.
Maybe some checkbox or special filtering should be added for this case, unless there is already some workaround I am not aware off.
Any help would be appreaciated.
2395  Other / Meta / Re: Request for the moderator position in Greek board on: March 22, 2023, 04:13:07 PM
Our moderator is offline 106 days now.
Our moderator was removed and self-banned from forum and we are waiting for years to get a new one from theymos, so you better prepare to wait a bit more Cheesy

2396  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Exit scam - Betja went down without any explanation on: March 22, 2023, 04:03:11 PM
Even if Betja was a legit casino (and now we know it wasn't the case), this was not the way to shutdown website and don't post any announcement about that in forum or in social media.
I supported flag against them, but I don't think we are going to see those scammers back in forum ever again, unless they will perform rinse and repeat scam with new name.
I feel sorry for guys who lost money there, but they should never hold coins on websites like this.
2397  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitcoin Bookstore on: March 21, 2023, 11:47:31 PM
Could you please visit the website again and tell me how it is now? I thin I made some big improvements and the speed should be much better now. Please let me know. Thanks!
Everything loads very fast and works great on my side, and I tested this on several different browsers (LibreWolf, Firefox, Brave).

I noticed you added nice option for book translations in other languages, and I know for one book called Digital Gold by Nathaniel Popper there is translation in more languages.
Translated title is Digitalno zlato:

PS
Maybe you can use Goodreads website to find more books about Bitcoin.
I just find one after few seconds search called Bitcoin Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, and it's not available on your Bitcoin Bookstore website Wink

2398  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Deflation in signature campaigns on: March 21, 2023, 11:24:52 PM
And one last question. The CM campaign paid for a maximum of 50 posts per week, while the rest (except Stake.com) pay for a maximum of 25. Do you think this will lead some people to try to build up an alt account so that in the future they can get paid for two campaigns for a total of 50 posts per week?
There was always cheaters and alt accounts abuse in forum, and this is not related with payment or number of posts.
I prefer campaigns that don't have strict limitation and that are giving more freedom to people, but this can be abused like anything in real life.
Few years ago if I remember correctly, someone was caught cheating even in ChipMixer campaign and this was all happening during the time of highest rates CM ever paid.
If I remember correctly it was identified that this guy was legendary member figmentofmyass and he used several accounts to cheat in ChipMixer campaign, and this lasted for months, maybe even years.
Members figmentofmyass, squatter and exstasie were all in CM campaign in the same time, but he controlled more accounts:

"I'd like to give the t-shirt I won to a Newbie who lives in the same country as me"....
I don't think your are the only guy in bitcointalk forum from same country, but they could also send that same t-shirt to any neighboring country PO Box of mysterious person, since there are no real borders in EU  Wink

I also wouldn't trust passwords created by a password system, because if a system can create them, it can also crack them.
LoL, but you brain is also a system, and when it breaks that means you don't have any backups.
You can do whatever you want, but most cases of people losing passwords and bitcoin keys is when they tried to act smart creating their own ''systems''.

Either way, you can rest assured that I have my own password model, different in many aspects from those discussed here, which, as you may understand, I will not share here. Wink
Sorry but I have to say that you are making perfect recipe for disaster with your unique password model, whatever that is.

Tongue
