981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin on: October 01, 2014, 11:04:26 PM
There are a lot of well-maintained sockpupets with 1plus year history and 100plus posts.

Yeah, some of us actually look like real people..... Cool

This is the worlds oldest NXT thread, btw, for more recent events in the wonderful world of NXT, see:
www.nxtforum.org
982  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: WELCOME to nhzKARM ASSET come join our movement forward to good economy on: October 01, 2014, 11:01:29 PM
Is this the first large scale NHZ asset launch?

I gotta say that I do like NeXT Horizon, definintely one of the better NXT clones on the market.
Wishing you success, guys, good luck!
983  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can NXT be a real Crowdfunding Platform? on: October 01, 2014, 07:49:13 AM
Slightly OT, but my main gripe with NXT is the high transaction fee (1 NXT).

Yep. The 1 NXT fee was OK back in the day, but it's going to be changed soon to reflect the higher transaction volumes from the AE, and there may even be the option to have variable tx fees (note I say may, not certain yet).

On the movie: It's a good idea, but I'd like to see a lot more real information (and/or people with trustworthy reps on board) before I'd invest any of my beloved NXT, or BTC, or whatever.

Thats a good point, btw: right now, you can buy into NXT Asset Exchange using BTC via:
https://trade.secureae.com/#12071612744977229797
and soon SuperNET will enable you to buy into the NXT AE using any of the participating currencies, so the total funds raised for this sort of project don't have to come directly in NXT.

BTW: open source rules !

984  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Joshua Zeidner: I will shut down NxT coin and have Jl777 (SuperNet) jailed. on: October 01, 2014, 07:35:21 AM
And the fight goes on between NxT and Bitcoin again will it ever stop ? Now they even attack Jl777 what a joke. These guys need really grow up.
So where are my 1000 Bitcoin from GOX ? I see Bitcoin has nothing to do with it. Such innocents always they try to ignore their stuff first.

You seems not to know but they always are trying to frame NxT for all the mistakes happen with their coins, strangely it stopped for a bit after the GoX fiasco now ask yourself why.

Oy...this isn't a fight between Bitcoin and NXT.
This is an issue between NXT and one guy who has behaved incredibly dishonestly towards his employer and NXT itself.
I've read thru the story, and there's nothing there that isn't provably backed up by facts, mostly supported by Joshuas own posts/communication.

@iCEBREAKER: Could you send the Alt-coin Police round to my house, please? I've been a very naughty boy.....
985  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to Keep my Dogecoins Safe Till 2016/18 or even 2020 on: September 30, 2014, 07:49:47 AM
Call me cynical, but is long term hodling of DOGE such a good idea, given its inflation ?

And, btw, password security debate full of good information:
https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/price-speculation/msg109260/#msg109260

Make sure that you use secure passwords for any long term wallet storage:
No well-known phrases (ie nothing that has ever been published anywhere, be it the Bible or Vampire Weekend lyrics)
12 character MINIMUM. More is better, over 40 is probably unnecessary.
Random selection of letters, (upper+lower case), numbers and symbols OR a sequence of 12 random words.

986  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can NXT be a real Crowdfunding Platform? on: September 29, 2014, 11:23:56 PM
Not to mention much of SuperNet and a load of other projects. Shocked

NXT is a brilliant crowdfunding platform, the only real problem that we have with this aspect is dodgy project/asset developers running off with the raised funds.
So, always do your due diligence before investing in any project.
The film looks interesting, posted on the above thread.....

As a CF example, I've helped out with fundraising for a project to put an unmanned private rocket/plane into near space, launching from the Spaceport America site in Nevada, home of Virgin Galactic:
https://nxtforum.org/nxt-promotion/nxt-in-space!/
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/09/26/lohan_test/

I managed to raise £1000 (60,000 NXT) within about 48 hours, based on not much more work than the forum post.
NXT to the moon!

But seriously: NXT is good for crowd funding.
987  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] [NXT ASSET] slasher movie from UMOS Productions on: September 29, 2014, 11:12:39 PM
Sounds like a good laugh, tbh, i'm interested.

NXT AE is an ideal platform for crowdfunding, so this could work out well.

Couple of points: so far the major issue with crowdfunding on NXT is project developers deciding to run off with all the funds, you'll need to have sort of escrow/guarantee system in place for investors security, not simply for your own protection in the event of a NXT price drop.

The main NXT community forum is:
https://nxtforum.org/

So come on over, there are some movie-related projects already going on in the NXT eco-system:
https://nxtforum.org/nxt-studios/
Maybe a co-production with the NxtStudios guys?
988  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Translations! Croatian,German,Austrian,Bosnian,English! on: September 28, 2014, 12:32:07 AM
I'd maybe suggest you can cross English off that list.
989  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NxT] new dread pirate roberts ? NxTRoad blackmarketplace? on: September 28, 2014, 12:30:17 AM
Yay! Starting to worry you'd been run over by a truck, mate!

Come on, lets have some proper NXT hate, coz this Monero stuff was getting dull.
990  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Coin Market App ~ Launch 09-29 ~ How we keep track of news & links for all coins on: September 26, 2014, 01:15:49 PM
CM App is looking good, nice one!
I'm putting an information pack together for NXT on the app as we speak, looking forward to Mondays launch.
991  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SuperNET on: September 24, 2014, 04:43:29 PM
much LOL, +1 to JohnnyB!

Heres a serious diagram, just to be serious:

993  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt Coins stolen/ Hacked be warned on: September 24, 2014, 12:34:06 AM
Sort of sad that one has to generate some crazy password in order to secure an account.  Every time someones NXT gets stolen, it's always the same thing. Oh your password wasn't good enough.  Can someone point out some other coins that have this issue?  Cause it seems to me NXT gets a lot of stolen NXT reports and would point to a fundamental problem with NXT.  Just sayin.

Because NXT is a brain wallet, your password is your account.
No need for a local wallet.dat that can get lost/stolen (and there's lots of malware that looks for wallet.dat these days), if your house burns down, taking your PC with it, no worries. No need for backups.....I like the brainwallet, I've had no problems so far with it and I've been using NXT very actively, on multiple accounts, over the last 10 months.

Every guide to NXT, and the client itself, gives information about password security, the client itself provides a (so far) unbreakable password generator, but still some people use a stupid password like a phrase from the Bible or the Russian constitution.
This is what is happening: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_table
Btw,a rainbow table is also what the bad guys will use to open your wallet.dat if they can steal it, so pay attention to NXT level of password security on ALL crypto.
Securing a BTC wallet with a quote from your favourite song will not keep out the bad guys for more than a few minutes at most, if they can access/copy it.

Anyway, there is a problem, and we need to try to solve it. I've posted much of the info that I have on the thefts on nxtforum.org:
https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/help!-my-nxt-account-stolen-account-for-nxt-wczn-dgql-xm69-62l3n/msg106530/#msg106530
(copy and paste, the stupid ! breaks the URL)

I'm offering a 5000 NXT bounty for help with recovery of the stolen funds, so if you want to help......feel free to join in.

994  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Read before investing in SuperNet ICO on: September 23, 2014, 07:37:15 AM
Good question.....SuperNET tokens are not limited, but the ICO is ending TODAY, round 14.00 GMT.
So there will  be TOKEN available on both BTER and the NXT AE until then.

Or wait to see what happens to the price after ICO closes, but I have a feeling it's gonna remain fairly stable.
995  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Robbed more than 100,000 NXT on: September 22, 2014, 11:10:32 PM
Oh, not Bible but russian constitution?  Shocked

UGOLOVNYI KODEKS, tam ishi parol.  Wink

TBH, mate, it looks as if your password was not very good. Not as bad as the first line of the Bible, but not good enough.
But you're the guy who's been stolen from, so I'm not going to blame you for it.

Lets keep watch on the thief account, and see where it all goes. Everything is on the blockchain, so the thief isn't going anywhere with it that we can't see.

On the 2FA:
https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/help!-my-nxt-account-stolen-account-for-nxt-wczn-dgql-xm69-62l3n/msg105791/#msg105791

(sorry about the URL, the ! breaks it, so copy and paste...)
996  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Robbed more than 100,000 NXT on: September 22, 2014, 10:35:03 PM

Even though there have been threads on NXT Forum saying just do it, why not?
All this has been shot down by anon NXT devs led by Come-from-Beyond.

Would you password protect your $800,000 house...
Then come home to your family one day and find the house has been sold with no explanation?

Of course not, no civilized society operates on such flimsy principles, but NXT does.

Zer0Sum: there is no back door. We have one obvious weak password (the bible line from 27/08) and one possibly weak password here.
If there was a back door, we'd see much more exploitaion, not just 3 tiny thefts and 2 medium, as we see on the thief account.
We know that RT attacks are happening constantly, and thats why we stress password security.

And that's why Account Control (including 2FA) is coming soon.
997  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Robbed more than 100,000 NXT on: September 22, 2014, 10:30:27 PM
Jeff Garzik (Bitcoin core developer) thinks there could be a backdoor in NXT that is resulting in all these thefts.

Sorry but I'm not buying it that some brute forcer is inserting every quotation from the bible into the password generator, or that they can crack 125 character passwords consisting of gibberish.

Ever heard of a Rainbow Table ?
Running a RT attack using Bible quotes is a trivial operation, a few seconds work.

The 125 char gibberish will be a lot harder to crack, but not impossible.

Anyhow, if you trace the transactions, we can see that the 2 most recent NXT thefts were carried out by the same guy, and that the NXT is sitting on:
http://nxtreporting.com/?ac=NXT-WTCT-N6HZ-CCKY-4MLJF

The 104,946 transaction is from Donn, the 188650 is from:
http://nxtreporting.com/?ac=NXT-WCZN-DGQL-XM69-62L3N
https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/help!-my-nxt-account-stolen-account-for-nxt-wczn-dgql-xm69-62l3n/msg105712/#msg105712
And this happened at the end of August.

998  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Robbed more than 100,000 NXT on: September 22, 2014, 08:01:51 PM
It's curious that pass phrases from hacked accounts are almost never posted, as if the victims know it's their fault they chose a weak password. Posting a pass phrase also helps confirm that the the claim is legitimate, anyone can use the pass phrase to log in to the hacked account to check whether the pass phrase really matches the account.

This guy did, first known victim of this thief:
https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/help!-my-nxt-account-stolen-account-for-nxt-wczn-dgql-xm69-62l3n/msg92255/#msg92255
His pass was just a random phrase from Genesis, complete with full stop.
999  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Robbed more than 100,000 NXT on: September 22, 2014, 07:59:11 PM
The problem is it is too easy to humanly err with NXT. There are no safeguards such as having a seed and than an account password. NXT has lots of innovations but it fails to understand the needs of the average user.

Wikipedia:

"Passwords or watchwords have been used since ancient times. Polybius describes the system for the distribution of watchwords in the Roman military..."

It's not very reassuring that NXT uses 3,000 year old tech to safeguard wealth...
Because that it all it is and nothing more.

And people wonder why Bitcoin has hit a wall.

Don't forget that this works well for 99.99% of NXT users, but, yeah, we need Account Control to be active.
This is not just a NXT problem: other coins are vulnerable to rainbow table attacks on the blockchain in search of private key hashes.
1000  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Robbed more than 100,000 NXT on: September 22, 2014, 07:53:09 PM
Join the club, mine disappeared mysteriously too. No more NXT for me, and don't tell me it was my 128 character randomly generated cut and paste password either.

Password of my account is 75 character with upper letter and special symbol.

@Blazr: can you send me some info on your theft ? Like to see if it's linked....

@Donn: could you send me your passphrase please ?
The account is gone anyway, and it might help other people if we know what sort of passwords are being cracked.
I suspect that it's a quote from something, but i'd like to see. PM me or post here, up to you.
