1501  Other / Politics & Society / Split from main thread Re: Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh on: July 15, 2018, 01:11:29 PM
It's paramount that our SCOTUS nominees are strictly constitutionalist, in my opinion. Our constitution is one of the most (feasible) freedom preserving and provoking systems that has ever been thought up. There are foundational aspects of our society that need not be malleable, else our freedoms will ebb and flow to become whimsical and feckless.

I don't know enough about their personal politics, but conserving our constitution is what they (SCOTUS) are nominated to do. Anything that deteriorates freedom is unacceptable.

Pro life should focus on educating rather than banning.

Most Pro-Life advocates see an unborn fetus as a life; Abortion ends this life, therefore they argue that it is a violent crime against another life. From this lens, it would seem strange to approach it from simply educating as opposed to outlawing it. Murder isn't halted through education, there must be enforcement in order to preserve the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of their potential victim(s).

This actually is where I have yet to receive a good solution from that side, enforcement; I do not see a reasonable way to enforce anti-abortion that would be effective, but I am ignorant and would love to hear one.

I get frustrated a little when people try to justify taking away anyone's ability to decide for themselves.  What gives anyone the right to decide for another person...  It's ignorant, sorry for being rude.

This is how the other side feels about deciding to take away a life.

IMO no matter where you're born as a women you should have the right to seek safe, legal options.

The other side believes no matter where you are conceived you should have the right to seek a safe, legal birth.

Yes us leftists are just silly to worry about something like that when the POTUS is literally the most anti-abortion president to ever sit in office.

I think you're being sensational. Many presidents have been Pro-life, or anti-abortion; Even recently.

Quote
REAGAN: The litmus test that John says is in the Republican platform, says no more than the judges to be appointed should have a respect for innocent life. Now, I don't think that's a bad idea. I think all of us should have a respect for innocent life. With regard to the freedom of the individual for choice with regard to abortion, there's one individual who's not being considered at all. That's the one who is being aborted. And I've noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born. I I think that, technically, I know this is a difficult and an emotional problem, and many people sincerely feel on both sides of this, but I do believe that maybe we could find the answer through medical evidence, if we would determine once and for all, is an unborn child a human being? I happen to believe it is.

Quote
Bill Clinton: Everyone knows life begins biologically at conception. No one knows when biology turns into humanity. Most abortions that don’t involve the life or health of the mother are chosen by scared young women and girls who don’t know what else to do. It’s hard to apply the criminal law to acts that a substantial portion of the citizenry doesn’t believe should be labeled crimes, (as with Prohibition). I thought then [in the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision] and still believe that the Court reached the right conclusion.

Quote
BUSH: Surely we can find common ground to reduce the number of abortions in America. This is a very important topic, and it’s a very sensitive topic because a lot of good people disagree on the issue. I think what the next president ought to do is promote a culture of life in America. As a matter of fact, I think a noble goal for this country is that every child, born and unborn, ought to be protected in law and welcomed into life. What I do believe is, we can find good common ground on issues like parental notification or parental consent. And I know we need to ban partial-birth abortions. This is a place where my opponent and I have strong disagreements. I believe banning partial-birth abortion would be a positive step toward reducing the number of abortions in America.

CARTER: I think abortion is wrong.

Seems every living president besides one was (during their term(s)) arguably Pro-Life, at least anti-abortion so I'm not sure what you mean.

I pop my head into this board now and then, looking for differences of opinion, intellectual stimulation, social commentary and a few other things; I have noticed an improvement on this board since you became moderator FH. I want to let you know that you're doing a great job, and this quote initiative is certainly needed in specifically this board. If I come across any quotes that fit your criteria, I'll certainly remember this post and adjust accordingly.

Congratulations on your win owlcatz, I'm a little sad that I've been working too much that it caused me to miss this raffle. I probably wouldn't have won, because I would've grabbed my lucky "e" slot, but it still breaks my heart that this went without me even having a ticket in the arena.

OP hasn't been around in about a month. If you had read through the thread you would see that there has been a lot of accusations and concern going around. They promised a vouch, never sent it; never made any successful sales and then disappeared without a word. This thread is dead, and is assumed to have been a scam attempt; please read through before continuing to post on it.
1505  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [2/3 Copies Left] Popular URL shortener exploit [$500] on: July 12, 2018, 03:14:22 AM
Would you be willing to allow a member to review/vouch your method? I'd be interested in taking a look, if that's something that you are open to. You're an extremely new user around here, which isn't a bad thing, but it certainly will make users hesitant to purchase a method for such a high premium as they will be unsure about the validity of your product. I would write a fair unbiased review about what I receive, in exchange for a "vouch" copy.
1506  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Pokemon Collection - Cards and Quilt on: July 10, 2018, 12:41:33 PM
Are you able to produce a picture of the complete set of Pokemon cards? The first picture looks like a complete sticker set or something, but not the trading-card game. Maybe I was collecting the wrong thing all my life. Help me understand what we're talking about here, because 1st edition cards are individually worth a lot of money.
1507  Other / Archival / Re: Cigarettes on: July 08, 2018, 09:38:21 PM
I was promised a few packs as a test to review for OP, they promised that they would have them sent out and delivered to me; they never arrived, I never received tracking information and I believe they completely lied about ever having the cigarettes. Blatantly a scam, and they only promised a vouch to try and lure others to purchase simultaneously and run off with their money.
1508  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] "TO THE MOOOOOON" 39MM DIY Coin on: July 08, 2018, 03:23:23 PM
I just noticed that I am placed in the OP as "18 bill gator", can you also explain what that means? Have I already purchased or agreed to purchase one of these coins? Shocked Did I win a raffle I don't remember? Intrigued and confused.
1509  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] "TO THE MOOOOOON" 39MM DIY Coin on: July 08, 2018, 03:10:20 PM
You say that this will be part of a 12-coin set, and I just want to be clear; this is the first coin in the set, right? Your previous coin(s) were not part of this set, or am I wrong?

Any chance you can notify me when the auction goes live through PM? Been extraordinarily busy lately and don't want to miss out.

Also, you said

Besides after the first people get there's they will post photos
so now I'm wondering which way it is going to go. Tongue

1512  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] "Sail the High Seas" numbers 2-15, and 26 ENDS IN 40 MIN on: July 04, 2018, 04:27:07 PM
It looks like I'm still the top bidder on Coin #2. Can you just verify that I am not the winner of coin #2, and that I do not need to pay for that coin? I'm a bit confused, because you said you weren't accepting bids on it, but now you just posted me as the winner. Tongue
1513  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Penny™ SILVER on: July 03, 2018, 08:04:05 PM
There's still a roll left FH! Grab it, you haven't missed out at all! If you don't feel like investing in an entire roll, I bought a few extra singles for exactly someone like yourself. Smiley You can shoot me a PM if you're interested in buying one from me; I don't have extra doodles to go with it though Sad
1514  Other / Meta / Re: Application for a merit source on: July 03, 2018, 02:37:29 PM
however it'd be great if he could take on the inactive sources merits

It would not be great if we worked towards centralizing merits, but your idea could still work. Pooling the inactive source merits and distributing them amongst the sources in proportion to the amount of sMerits they receive monthly when compared to other sources, might be a decent way to recycle those merits.

@pugman, you are meriting the posts that you like

I can't imagine there are many merit sources meriting posts that they dont like. Looking through pugman's history very quickly, they certainly do not exclusively send merits in the manner you are suggesting. If they were giving merits to their buddies, for unwarranted posts, this would be considered abuse and it would be squashed.

1518  Other / Meta / Re: Another nullius is rising! [Disclaimer added] on: July 03, 2018, 12:42:42 PM
Unfortunately merit is often given to posts that the sender of merit agrees with. This is a problem system wide and the merit system is closer to “proof of agreeing with those in power” than “proof of good posts”.Here is one example of this.

I wholeheartedly agree with you; It very realistically may be the single biggest flaw currently manifesting within the merit system. Since we're on the topic of nullius within this thread, would you say this would be a better explanation of their meteoric rise in merit than technical expertise and careful writing? It seems, to me, those that are significantly (enough to rank up) and consistently merited are those that go beyond agreeing with those in power.

While it may be the biggest problem of the merit system, it might not be significant enough a problem to characterize the entire system as “proof of agreeing with those in power”. The trust system is victim to this problem, too, in my opinion. Additionally, with more merit sources being added regularly, merit being decentralized, it would seem this problem is already being solved, to some degree.

I like that you used one of your posts as an example, but you're not necessarily someone in power (unless I've misunderstood what definition we're operating with), so wouldn't that be a flimsy example? I've certainly seen examples of this, but I just am wondering if you do consider this an example of “proof of agreeing with those in power”.

I wonder if Quickseller wants actmyname to get tagged for giving him a merit?

Don't get too excited now! Wink
1519  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: selling all my BTC miners with PSU on: July 03, 2018, 12:33:58 PM
When you are bumping your thread, it is common practice to delete your previous "bump" posts. This way your thread doesn't get cluttered with your own posts that don't add anything.

There are 4 bumps that you could/should delete from within this thread.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been scammed for hosting, that's unfortunate. It's incredible that you managed to recover the miner, during that situation; how did you manage that?

Would you consider lowering the price now that you've been waiting multiple weeks without a bite since we've last spoken?
1520  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How is the target value (PoW) determined? on: July 03, 2018, 12:21:46 PM
I am confused about miners being able to modify timestamp data within the header. I thought the only modifiable piece of data within the header was the nonce. I understand changing the Merkle root, through different transactions being included in a trial block, but how are timestamps modifiable? I thought the timestamps where reliant upon the sender, and when they pushed their transaction, is this incorrect?

I understand where the target value comes from now, much more so than last night. Now I'm wondering what happened if/when SHA-256 becomes compromised to some degree. Thanks for the input, goddog and achow101.

I'd still argue that it is doing work, in order to create a solution to a problem/question, but I do understand why that would be confusing terminology. Plus, it's clear that I understand very little about our protocol, so my arguments hold little weight.
