2081  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: April 10, 2018, 02:50:54 PM

I've said it a hundred times and I'm sure I'll be saying it a hundred more, at least; I am not interested in meriting topics surrounding Bounties such as this. Feel free to resubmit something with a bit more substance, and not similar to this topic.

Then I shall review those posts that you have not omitted, by your own request! Thank you for keeping up with your post and saving me a couple minutes. I had a read through the entire thread in each of your submissions that were not omitted; and I have decided to give a Merit to the last one. I was strongly considering giving the post 2-merit, but since I am not a merit source I seem to always be low on merit. It is tough out here. I think Merit > sMerit rate might be better at .75, rather than .5, but that's just my take on things. I very well might double back and merit your first post in that same thread. The other submission just reads a bit too conversational for my taste.

Huh The same old thread that has been posted hundreds of thousands different times. I won't be meriting this post.

Live-chat is neat idea, but for one reason or another I think it would prove itself to be more harmful than helpful, unfortunately. Extremely easy to abuse, and the forum is already starved for staff resources. It would seem counter-productive to stretch themselves thinner than they already are. I might get involved in the conversation, but as SFR10 has said, most people would be against it; most people, except the hoards of lower-ranking members wondering why their nonsensical post hasn't been answered by Satoshi. HCP did my job for me on one of your submissions so I will leave that post as it is, thanks again, HCP! For some reason or another those "Merit Concern" posts don't seem to get me feeling like I want to merit. Not really sure, but they're just not compelling to me. You have a good point in the Press thread, but for some reason it feels like a stale point. Don't get me wrong, it is valid, but it's not something that made me think and feels like old news. I almost gave you a merit for the price prediction post, because this is something I myself regularly let people know. Although, I certainly never believe it to be worthy of merit when I post it, so I'm going to have to decline. There were a couple submissions that made me open the merit page and come really close to clicking it, but for some reason HCP is the only merit you're getting this time around.
2082  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit Source @digaran has gone too far on: April 10, 2018, 02:46:53 PM
I will not use your name. I will use "you know who". because you are the most humble high rank member in this forum

Can you make a thread/post in which you explain all of your lingo? I'd love to be able to follow along better, because you make me laugh harder than just about anyone. I will never put you on my ignore list as others have suggested, because you are extremely entertaining. My good ole' jump-buddy.  Grin

Fun fact, I'm a bigot, lowlife, beggar.

The man admits these things openly; do you honestly need more than that to take their posts with a grain of salt?

keep meriting each other whilst doing me here.

Oh! You should also make a thread/post explaining what you believe to be appropriate merit behavior, because this too is something I would love to follow along with.

I was representing the forum, right?

No sir, you are an individual, representing your own opinion on a forum which acts as an open-marketplace of ideas. If you are not Staff, then you are not representing the forum. DT members and Merit-sources do not necessarily represent the forum anymore than a random user; although, it is more likely that their opinions align with the Staff/forum. A good example of this, is that many DT members and Merit-Sources disagree with each other about just about anything you can name. Unless you are saying that the forum is represented by anything and everything users post (which is redundant, at best), this would prove to be a contradictory premise.

It's not a fucking job. You don't get compensated for it

Why do you think that I am representing the forum then?

wat. You are compensated by theymos? Do you receive BTC, $ or does he let you jump your pick of the newbies? Being a merit-source doesn't count as compensation, unless you also consider volunteer work to count as compensation or that you are commanding your status as merit-source over others and this is compensation. Please elaborate, my friend.

Which one am I? representative of the forum or a little shit?

Oh, come on, you know the answer to that one.  Kiss

Why would you want me to be happy? are you unhappy about getting no merits from me?

The one and only thing all of us care about is your happiness, digaran, how can you say such things? Of course we are unhappy about not receiving merits from you, as you are the one we pray to at night; we hope for you to notice us and only with your touch can we seek enlightenment. We strive day and night to receive merit from you, yet you forsake us, why do you forsake us?

if you find Joe's charity work IRL a great thing, you should kneel and wait for his balls.

Wait a minute, now I think I understand your confusion about compensation.

they were last seen...

I think we know where to find them, unless they've gone astray?

if you remove the merit and cash prizes from your challenge, nobody would participate.

Well, we know that's wrong, because there has been many members that have asked to not receive their prizes. So they participate knowing they will not receive merit, cash, BTC or any other kind of compensation. That makes you wrong as can be, bucko.

2083  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit Source @digaran has gone too far on: April 08, 2018, 11:19:09 PM
Are these types of posts acceptable here? Tell me that they are, and I'll drop the subject matter and simply ignore this user.

I've bumped heads with digaran as well, as you're well aware of, because they have accused us of being the same person and other nonsense. To answer your question, yes, they are acceptable as far as I'm aware. People don't get banned for saying nonsense, or even making wild accusations (see quickseller). I've made it a point to just laugh off their posts and accusations, because I'm not even sure if this user is serious, ever. I have also made it a point to send digaran a PM and try to discuss out our disagreements and their accusations; it went pretty well, from my perspective, and I haven't had any negative run-ins with them since.

I would not pay them much mind, because they are either cracking a joke at our expense with dry humor, clueless beyond reason or terribly misunderstood; I do not believe this user to be acting maliciously, only foolishly at times.

I think being called an alt of DarkStar_ is a compliment @BTCforJoe.

I've also taken this as a compliment and moved on.
Even DarkStar_ seems to be enjoying the joke, with their new Personal Message.
2084  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: April 08, 2018, 11:07:10 PM

You're welcome in advance Smiley
Although, you have broken a local-rule in the formatting of your submission and therefore I won't be taking a look. Feel free to resubmit your post when you fully understand the rules.

I like that you wasted no time and simply threw your links up; very efficient, and I appreciate it. One of your submissions is the 700th+ reply in a megathread, another one is deleted for one reason or another and the last is nothing that substantial. I don't really see anything worth meriting here.

All I see when I look at these is plain ole' conversation without much creativity or nuance being added to your post/thoughts. They don't stand out in any significant way to me.

You've already received a couple merit from a couple different people, and so that's not going to qualify as "under-merited" by my current criteria.
2085  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: April 08, 2018, 05:26:49 PM
You had me scared for a minute, DarkStar_, I thought something had happened to you. Turns out, it was just a heavy Saturday night, which is understandable. It's not like any of us are relying on the campaign payment to bring our dog to the vet and get life-saving care, right?... Right?...

Anyways, Week 9 Payment received; hopefully my internet stops cutting out for 2-3 days at a time and let's me live in peace. It's tough managing over 9,000 alts, so we (being your alts) will cut you some slack.
2086  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 + 8 Merits every week! (Round 5) on: April 08, 2018, 03:39:57 PM
Now that I am all caught up within my own review thread and have a better view on the amount of merits I have available for this challenge, at least for now, I am pretty confident that I will be able to pick up and continue my merit sponsorship for quite a few rounds. Thanks bitmover for stepping up to the plate, thank you suchmoon for enabling this to continue and thank you Joe for keeping this campaign running better than I could.

Vlad, you're a good man for allowing your prize money to be used at Joe's discretion. This gives a lot of necessary freedom for the capital to entice otherwise contentious recruits. It's quite interesting to me the amount of users that join, pledge to donate their earnings and then actually place.
2087  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: April 08, 2018, 02:48:44 PM

I'll tell you what, unfortunately you have broken a local-formatting rule by placing additional characters on the line in which the links to your submissions have been placed. I would like you to please read the OP and feel free to resubmit your links when have feel that you fully understand the rules. It's nothing terrible or egregious, I just have to keep things uniform and if I let you get away with it then other people will be up in arms.

You're welcome, in advance. You have also broken a local-rule by formatting your link(s) in the way you have. Please go back, read the OP. Feel free to resubmit your posts when you have read it thoroughly and fully understand all of the rules.

You've already received merit on just about all of these submissions, and the one submission that you haven't received merit on it there is good reason for that.

My internet has been extraordinarily crappy today, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to process this for you as soon as possible. I'll send you a PM in a few minutes and we'll make a deal! Pick an escrow, as well, as long as they are reputable I will have no problem.
2089  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: LEVEL 40 POKEMON GO PTC EMAIL AND USERNAME CHANGABLE ($5) on: April 07, 2018, 03:13:03 AM
It is against the rules to cross-post : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3262997.msg34000873#msg34000873 You posted exactly the same thread as your only other post.

Before purchasing anything, please read EcuaMobi's thread about auto-sell links, such as this, posted by newbies such as this. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3035620.0 You will be thankful that you avoided doing business this way. It is always a headache and not worth your time. The amount of effort the seller has put into their sales thread should be an indication of how genuine it is.
2090  Other / Meta / Re: Posting in Wrong Sub-Forum on: April 07, 2018, 02:16:56 AM
Mostly what jackg said, but in addition to that what I like to do is attempt to inform the user of their mistake and where to find information to avoid future mistakes. I'm sure if a staff member believes the user to be acting abusively or maliciously then they will handle it accordingly.

For what you are decribing, I would probably quote them from mprep's "Unofficial list of (Official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ", found here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0

More specifically I would point them to the "Guidelines for threads" section of the thread, because that's the relevant information in this case. Again though, if you believe it to be spam, malicious or that it would just be a waste of your time then either ignore it or report it.
2091  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Exchanging BTC > ETH & ETH > BTC on: April 07, 2018, 02:03:51 AM
please is it actually secure to exchange BTC or Ethereum with fiat currency online? if it is secure, please what are the procedure?

It can be secure, but as I have told other people in the past you must define what you mean by secure. I have no clue whether you are speaking about anonymity, if you are speaking about financial security or any number of other concerns. You have to clarify what you are asking or else I am simply guessing.

2092  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] Tablet on: April 07, 2018, 01:34:39 AM
Are you sure you want a Tablet with a GPU?

Nope, I am not sure about really anything to do with the specs, and since I recently waterlogged my laptop it has thrown me for an entirely new loop. Plus I've been considering building a second rig, so it's all up in the air at this point.

It becomes more of an ultrabook then. A tablet/laptop with 512 gigs of SSD, an i7 8th Gen processor, 16 gigs of RAM. This thing is amazing except for its terrible Intel HD graphics 620.
If you want with a GPU, This thing can be used a tablet too.

I think that might be where I am falling at this point. I might be more interested in an ultrabook that's a 2-in-1 or whatever they are called. I'm not positive that I want a GPU, but it would seem helpful to at least grab myself a couple GB of dedicated video memory, since I plan to play some simple games on it. Cooling is something that is going to be of big concern, because laptops and tablets are notorious for not being able to handle their own hardware when it comes to temperatures. I might be going down that path of Ultrabook that is a tablet. Refurbished is fine by me, but preferably manufacturer refurbished.

Can confirm that the Intel HD graphics 620 is about as powerful as a waterlogged potato.
You won't be doing much graphical with that. Smiley

That's my worry, is that even on simple games or heavy applications a tablet without a GPU might struggle to get going. Potatoes don't produce good results for gaming, their GPU architecture is too obscure.
2093  Other / Meta / Re: Legend and Hero subsection on BTC and ALT boards. Please?? on: April 06, 2018, 11:58:36 PM
The main issue is nobody really knows about it.

What makes you think that anybody would be more likely to know about the board you are suggesting?

So actually the junior discussion versions are the sub discussion boards I guess.

I think this would do more harm than you are anticipating that it would. If implemented correctly it would, at best, compartmentalize the community and separate us into sections. This would significantly damage the cross-over communication between higher ranking members and lower ranking members. This is how information is spread and they become more informed, higher ranking and nowadays merit earning.

I mean the alt discussion board has gone to hell.

I think that board is no longer moderated or if it is then the job is so vast and impossible then those mods are over whelmed.

I think this says something more about the state of altcoins than it does about the state of the forum. ICOs have become a breeding ground for pump-and-dumps, outright scams and useless ideas. That's going to have an effect on the forum until the market weeds out these useless currencies that are for the uninformed or those looking to capitalize on what they know to be a short-term opportunity.

What about the board suggests that it is not being moderated? The rules are very forgiving, and you might find that what you are annoyed by simply doesn't violate any official rules; if they do, then report them and they will disappear.

although the merit stops them ranking up the bots still clogging up the board. I mean the most gullible real members then start trying to make sense of these bot posts.

Could it be the case that you are seeing what you want to see? Merit makes it so there is absolutely no point for anybody to waste bot resources on spamming the boards with nonsense questions, unless they believe the questions or their other bot answers will receive merit; this doesn't happen and they will realize this quickly. I suggest you give it some time and see that the clog will clear.
2094  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: April 06, 2018, 03:42:02 PM

300th post in a thread discussing whether or not a big company is a scam. I would require your post to be heavily significant under these circumstances in order to give you merit. Although, what I see is that you are simply cluttering the thread with information that has been repeated. You are not adding anything new to the discussion.

You have broken a local-rule by submitting more than 5-posts for review within a single post. Feel free to resubmit your link(s) after you have read OP fully and understand the rules completely.

This post has been merited too much to be considered within this thread as a submission. Feel free to submit another post.

Your first two submissions have received merit, and therefore I do not believe them to be under-merited. If we're being honest I probably would not have merited them anyways, but that's the way the cookie crumbles I suppose. Your last post seems to be another one of those Q&A posts that I am unwilling to merit. I do not like to merit these posts if they have not been referenced by me, asked by me, or answered by me. I would like to be involved in the Q&A if I am to merit anyone else involved.

You barely answer the simple question, a question that was answered multiple times before you replied to the thread and I don't give merit for Q&A posts.
2095  Other / Meta / Re: User(s) begging me for merit through PM on: April 06, 2018, 12:43:46 AM
Happy to assist anyone that feels they've been assisted by this information. For any newbie that is unaware that begging for merit through PM is frowned upon, I would suggest you do some reading. For now I'll go ahead and lock this thread, since there's no need for further action or comment.
2096  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin 101: Explain It Like I'm Six on: April 05, 2018, 10:32:31 PM
This does not come close to accomplishing what the title would indicate. If I had no information about Bitcoin or I was actually 6, then I would not have a greater understanding of Bitcoin after reading your article. It is by no means comprehensive, complete or really informative in anyway. Regardless of whether or not you claim to have written the article it is appropriate and necessary to source the original material. We have no way of knowing that the author is truly you, and so if it is not an original thought, then you must cite the source. Copy + Pasting material is against the rules, regardless of it being your own material, AFAIK.
2097  Other / Meta / Re: Abusive Merit Giveaway on: April 05, 2018, 01:29:53 PM
Interestingly the thread has been deleted by the moderators. I think that is probably due to it falling foul of the forums rule prohibiting incentivised posting.

Specifically, you are not allowed to give people any incentive to post insubstantial posts in your threads.

My highlighting on the difference between that thread and other Merit review threads.

That is a very important distinction. That is exactly what I was looking for, even though I've read everything theymos has said about merit and the guidelines/rules surrounding it multiple time, somehow I have missed that as relevant and important in this case. Good eye on that.

Since the thread I reference in OP has been handled by moderators and the user in question hasn't sent any significant amount of merit I'll be locking this thread. If they start another thread, I'll re-open this and reference the new thread with an updated link and a bump to accompany it.
2098  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: April 05, 2018, 12:52:04 PM

I'm not very interested in meriting info-graphics, unless they are revolutionary and eye-opening. All of your other submissions appear to be conversational, at best and amongst the spam in megathread at worst. No merit will be awarded for these submissions.

Your first submission is basically a question that has been answered in the past to a very large degree. This was something that was considered early on and decidedly took a back-seat to what we are seeing in BTC today. The premise is flawed, you do not need a floating supply in order to sufficiently circulate the currency.

Your next submission has already been merited, so I will leave that as it is. All of your submissions seem to mostly be questions, or answers and most of them have already been discussed at great length.

I actually might make it a local-rule that single post submissions get priority. Sort of like a single-rider line at an amusement park. This would seem to make things go a lot quicker for the people that deserve to have it quicker. If you're going to make my job easier, than I might as well reward you for that. Everybody else seems to think the "more the merrier", and that they'll have a better chance at receiving merit for swarming the submissions; this is not necessarily the case at all.

Now onto your submission, unfortunately this is not something I am willing or interested in awarding merit to, because it solves a problem that I did not have. If I did have this problem, I probably would've solved it without needing to reference your post, so unfortunately this is not something that I am going to merit.

I don't mean to be that guy, but I'm just not compelled by any of your posts to award merit. Some of them have already been merited, even when I don't particular believe them to be deserving of merit, and whether it's about bounties or merit moderators it all seems to be flawed premises, unsubstantiated claims or being conversational posts that I do not merit.
2099  Other / Meta / Re: Abusive Merit Giveaway on: April 05, 2018, 12:49:38 PM
its garbage because it needs "moral supervision".

The merit system is garbage, because it requires human input, good one, Scorpio. The "Moral Supervision" you speak of, is simply the same as any other guideline/rule, such as "Don't scam/steal". The rules require moral supervision, because they are born out of universal morality. Sort of like a social contract. Still, you haven't explained why moral supervision is necessarily a bad thing that makes the merit system garbage. No clue why you're acting condescending about it, but you haven't backed up your position or explained it sufficiently. Literally everything calls for "moral supervision", what is your point?

I don't think shitposters gonna get any merit here.

Think again. He explicitly talked about randomly giving it away

Is this your thing since this merit system was implemented?
You just go around and police everyone about everything?

I report blatant cases of abuse to the Meta board for discussion when I am unsure how to proceed or want to gather a community consensus about a certain issue.
Do I police everyone about everything? No, only a very selective few users that are acting maliciously.

Everyone is free to give merit where they want, it is only a problem if they are trading them or farming alts.

That was one of the reasons why I began this thread. Since users are free to distribute their merit in almost any way they would like, it makes me wonder if this is even something that is actionable or if it is riding an unfortunate line.

If I were you I would explain myself and not act like an aggressive idiot within the thread you are being accused within. Especially considering you deleted the abusive thread, in an attempt to hide it? I can only guess why.
2100  Other / Meta / Re: Abusive Merit Giveaway on: April 05, 2018, 04:47:37 AM
the merit system is almost useless.

Your response is beyond useless.

That is the single most thoughtless sentence I have read all day. Save that nonsense for one of the threads crying about the new system. I'm trying to get acknowledgement and action in movement against a specific instance of abuse within the system we are all operating under. If you want to complain about the system or attempt to change the system with unsubstantiated claims then that is discussion for another thread.
