2201  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I change my avatar? on: March 23, 2018, 04:06:08 PM
I have seen other Jr. Members with avatars, you should ask one of them how to do it. Newbies like me can't put one up afaik.

Knew I was forgetting something in my last post.
You have not said anything that hasn't already been said within this topic. There has only been 5-replies before yours and you blatantly didn't bother to read them. For future reference, please read the entire thread before making your reply or else you run the risk of making a useless post.

AAile, please if you are satisfied with the answers you've gotten and feel you have no more questions on this topic, lock the thread. You can do so at the bottom left side of the thread, and you are always able to unlock in the future if need be. This will save from unneeded replies that simply do as the user above has done. If you have any further questions, let's hear them.

move topic  |  remove topic  |  unlock topic  |  set topic sticky  |  merge topics

There's that option below the topic.
2202  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 23, 2018, 03:32:41 PM

These are all just simple conversational posts that don't really intrigue me in anyway. I don't feel like there was much substance to these posts, if any at all. I want thought to be provoked and I want to feel like there is effort and creativity being put forward. Otherwise, you're just adding to the noise.

That's a really nice post silent. It would've definitely got a merit or two from me if it hadn't already been smothered in merit. Wink Keep it up though, that's what I'm looking for in a post.

I don't know much about soccer or altcoins, so I can't really weigh in on that one. ICO investment isn't my cup of tea, and that goes for a couple of your submissions. It seems like your forum usage primarily revolved around bounties, airdrops and ICOs. Not planning to merit that.

This post is not extensive enough to have earned a merit from me if I'm being honest. It has received too much merit for me to consider it anyways, but I'd consider the merit you've already earned for this post to be a win.

Going to finish posts within the hour.
2203  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet for Canadians? on: March 23, 2018, 03:02:05 PM
Every wallet that can send and receive Bitcoins will be "compatible" with Hashflare. And most wallets (if not all) will work regardless of your country.

If you are asking because you are completely uninformed and everything TryNinja just said is new information to you, then I would suggest you do a lot more reading before investing any money or purchasing a cloud mining contract. Use the search function extensively, send me PMs with questions, post more threads if you cannot find your question in the search function and really be 110% sure about whatever you've got brewing in your noggin.

Online wallets, exchanges being used as wallets and cloud mining have always been something many people in the community warn against. They are not as secure as Bitcoin was originally intended to be, and they come with exactly the sorts of problems Bitcoin was created to do away with.

I think certain exchanges and certain services restrict access to one another if they can recognize such addresses. No clue why they do this, because it clearly takes more effort for no apparent benefit, at least from what I've considered. For example, a lot of mining pools do not allow withdrawal to exchanges.
2204  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I change my avatar? on: March 23, 2018, 02:50:17 PM
I see many have already pointed out you do not fit the rank requirement, but once you are the necessary rank to apply an avatar though, you can do so by clicking "Profile" in the navigation bar or visiting https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile . After that you click "Forum Profile Information" on the sidebar navigation pane or https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1811030;sa=forumProfile and "Avatar" will be the first option. Then you select "Go Here" and it will bring you to the page to upload an avatar https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=avatar;u=1811030 . Now you can click "Choose file", select the file you wish to become your avatar, then click "Upload" and you are done. It may take a few minutes for your avatar to properly update.

tl;dr https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=avatar;u=XXXXXXX (where XXXXXXX is your UID)
2205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Exchanging BTC > ETH & ETH > BTC on: March 23, 2018, 12:00:05 AM
What kind of services are asking or needed your clients to do so that they can earn bitcoins or other alternate coins to you?? But technically it is very difficult to conduct a transaction in currency exchange cause most of the people are pretty much all talks no deal.

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. If this were a self-moderated thread, which it probably should be, I would've deleted your post. The service being offered is obvious, I am not trying to earn bitcoins for my clients and it is not difficult to conduct a deal in the currency exchange section. Most people don't post in the currency exchange section unless they are looking to perform a deal. You would be the fringe exception in this case; simply posting in this board just to reply nonsensically.

You're not interested in an exchange, you haven't asked a salient question and you have nothing to offer to the discussion. Please, think before you post.
2206  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: (WIP) Community Compiled List of Sites Browser Mining on: March 22, 2018, 09:14:29 PM
So  I suppose you noticed it on a crypto-news website and at least a medium to large. it's a shame to try to earn pennies with your traffic like this way. Even using adfly would be better. Wonder how much they're making with this...

I don't perfectly know how this method works but I believe instead to use a list by putting the domain name in your host file would be more radical or installing NoJS

I agree, this is quite a shameful practice when it is done in the manner that it currently is. Behind closed doors, without informed consent and excessively overloading hardware. All for minimal gains, while lagging their clients into oblivion and making regular usage of their site unbearable. It ultimately drives people away, and quickly; I don't understand how any business can see this as a feasible alternative. It can be done correctly, but it seems as though no thought has been put into it at all. If there has been any thought put into it, it was the wrong kind of thought, for sure.

Installing NoJS might do the trick, but that's not a good option for most people.

Perhaps any website that uses more than 15% of the CPU (constant usage), should be checked.

To have accurate results, we can simply look at the source codes of each > finding the keywords like "coinhive"/"webmine" and few others (as shown on the previous link that I posted)...

This might not be what you were trying to say, but it brings me to an interesting thought. Since you say 15%+ should be checked, would it be safe to say that 10% CPU usage, if these sites were to implement mining, would be acceptable to you?

I agree though, more than 15% is certainly suspect, and if it is a consistent % of differing CPUs then it would seem that is a red-flag towards mining for sure. That might be a good test criteria, if you are suspicious of a site mining keep track of the % it uses of your CPU and compare it to another CPU, whether it be through another user or another one of your own devices. Would this work to any extent?

I fear that some might be tricky and program these things themselves, to avoid the anti-virus crackdown and the regular blocking of CoinHive scripts and similar bigger names in this sort of thing.
2207  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 22, 2018, 04:35:46 PM
Just wondering on this one, Joe and Bill why not apply aswell?

I plan to, at some point, apply to be a merit source. It just seems like staff is swamped with applications for merit sources at this point and there is no shortage of merit to go around in my opinion. There are people entirely more qualified for me that have applied and have been waiting a long time for a response (LoyceV for example). I don't feel like throwing my application on their pile of work, given all these other criteria, is going to do anyone any good so I've been doing my best to understand the merit system better and get a feel for how it should be utilized. I've been involved with challenges, review threads and discussions about merit so that I know what I'm doing before I'm a staff selected merit source. There's been only minimal shortage of merit, and I haven't felt limited to a significant degree on the sMerit I can deliver so it's been a good experience to see what a regular user is going to experience. It just seems appropriate to use the system regularly before applying, and seeing if there is even a need for me to do so.

I can't speak for Joe, so I'd have to let him answer.

digaran, this all just seems like discussion for another place. If you would like to have this conversation then please feel free to start a thread where appropriate, or we can all discuss this in PM. Your concerns are invalid in my opinion; I think you're coming to the wrong conclusions while presenting them arrogantly.

Yup, the first place winner will receive $45 or $50! I have also decided that as long as the round begins with 25 valid participants, the cash prize for 3rd place will be available, even if users are disqualified during the round. The escrow should be fine for this week; I'm adding some more to it shortly. Thanks!

This is probably the best way to do it, that way nobody gets taken on an emotional roller coaster like last round. We've got the hefty prize this round, toughit is a quality user for donating their prize towards the pool. They're probably one of the top donors to the challenge at this point  Cheesy
2208  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 22, 2018, 03:51:31 PM

The first submission as already sufficiently merited so I'm not going to touch that. I don't think I'm going to merit a post describing how to verify an account for an exchange I know nothing about and do not use. I'm not Vietnamese and do not know what the situation is on the forum for people from there, plus I see you've received a merit for that thread already. I have "watched" the post about decentralized exchanged, and I would be interested in joining the conversation. I would probably have given it a merit if it went more in-depth or gave a few examples of DEX.

These are both just conversational posts, and are things that have been said time and time again. It looks like you put effort into your posts, and if you keep it up you will earn merit. I'm too low to dish it out for just effort.

Talking about a bounty for information isn't something I'm going to merit at this point.

Two of these submissions are the same post and they are all horrible. They are buried deep in mega-threads and add nothing to the discussion.
2209  Economy / Digital goods / Re: UBER Referral Free Rides SERVICE $2.5 each (CHEAPEST SERVICE) on: March 22, 2018, 03:33:22 PM
I have seen many members show their interest and ask questions, but I have not seen a single user come back and post about their experiences with you as a seller. I don't know of a single user that has used your codes successfully. I would like to buy a handful to keep in my back pocket, in case of X, Y or Z, but I cannot rely on something that has no reputation. I am in the same boat as many others; I would be willing to buy codes from you, but only if you go first or if escrow is involved with the contingency that funds do not get released until I have the chance to use one of the codes/rides. Is that something you would be interested in?
2210  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Free iOS Fortnite Invites on: March 22, 2018, 02:39:31 PM
I wouldn't mind grabbing the last invite code you have available. I'm not the biggest fortnite fan, but I'm willing to give it a try on mobile to see if it feels like a better platform for it. I doubt the platform will be accommodating, but I certainly wouldn't mind seeing what all the hubbub is about.

As long as I don't have to share my iTunes account e-mail with you or any other personal information that could be manipulated in malicious ways, feel free to send it my way. Where did you acquire these codes?
2211  Other / Meta / Re: Is it a bug? on: March 22, 2018, 02:35:43 PM
When someone has access to your cookies, he has access to all your user files. I assume you keep more data on your computer, and don't delete everything, right?

I do not delete everything, but I meant I have a sneaking suspicion that my cookies are more easily accessible than my user files for some reason. Although again, you may very well have put more thought into the subject than I have. Is there no way that someone has access to my cookies and not the rest of my files?

Anything worth keeping safe is encrypted, so even if someone has access to those they wouldn't be of much use without cracking some tough encryption. Maybe I am naively feeling secure, but I don't know what kind of encryption/security cookies are using. At least I know what's going on with my user files.

I meant a waste of forum bandwidth.

That is quite a different story, then; I don't know why it feels like I'm constantly failing to consider something so simple or completely misunderstanding what is being said. I gotta get my act together.
2212  Other / Meta / Re: Is it a bug? on: March 22, 2018, 02:23:29 PM
Only if someone gets his hands on your cookies. If that happens, your computer is compromised anyway and you have more things to worry about.

I always have this strange fear that someone has easy access to my cookies and I obsessively clear them out almost instantaneously and constantly. I never save any log-ins or allow excessive cookies. I do not allow them to sit on my computer for longer than necessary. I might have a paranoid approach, but it seems to be working so far.

This seems like a waste of bandwidth for someone who's last posted almost 2 years ago.

Not that much bandwidth though, and it's not like you can squirrel away your unused bandwidth for future endeavors. Am I wrong?
2213  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 22, 2018, 02:17:38 PM

I like the way you post. It seems to me like you actually put thought into your posts, more so than most users at least. I gave you a Merit for your first submission, because after looking through all your submissions I see that most of them are just conversational and that isn't normally the type of posts I merit, but you start discussions that I would be interested in participating in and I can appreciate that. I would have liked to have seen the thread self-moderated and actually develop into an "ultimate guide".

Your relatively simple analysis of the comparisons between stocks and bitcoin isn't really that interesting to me. It read extremely generic. I wasn't able to pull any substance, nuance or creativity out of your post.

I would've given you a merit if you hadn't already received a couple of merit for this thread. I have added this thread to my watchlist though, and I plan to reference it in the future; when this becomes the case I will toss a merit on that bad-boy. Feel free to continue with your submissions. You make quality posts/threads.

Long post, but I don't really know what I'm supposed to take away from it. Just seems to ramble on and not really say too much. It might be over my head, but I don't see it as deserving merit at this point.

None of these posts stand out to me as significant. I really can't say much more than that.
2214  Economy / Services / Re: A simple bitcoin Q/A. Learn new and interesting stuff about bitcoin. on: March 21, 2018, 09:34:24 PM
Phew! Finally evaluated the answers and gave merits to a few deserving posts.

I know the feeling, we've got a couple of threads that require a lot of attention and time. Then you add regular everyday life into the equation and you end up feeling like there's not enough hours in the day to just do the simple things. I feel bad that I have been mostly missing from this thread and it has been awhile since I've popped my head in, but it seemed like you and a couple other users have found somewhat of a rhythm so I didn't want to mess that up. I'm researching questions and always learning more, so whenever that rhythm seems to stutter I will have questions at the ready without a problem.

Phew indeed pugman, but good job not letting this thread get away from you and staying on top of it.
2215  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 21, 2018, 09:00:49 PM

Half of your submissions were in spam mega-threads and buried deep within them. The other half of the submissions were just simple trading knowledge that wasn't particularly relevant to bitcoin. It might be helpful to some people, but I will allow for them to merit your posts. I was not particularly interested, impressed, entertained or informed by your posts and therefore I don't feel it right to grant you and merit from my reserves.

I believe your first submission to be sufficiently merited and therefore I won't be throwing any your way for that one, although it looks like a reasonably well written post. Plus, I mostly agree with the sentiment of them being necessary for the economy, at least for now. I may hop into the conversation myself Shocked Again, HCP did my job for me on your second submission and I don't have too terribly much merit to give away so I'll let their merit stand in the place of mine. Very nice post, I like the thought and the idea behind it. I would've merited your third submission if it was in response to some genuine discussion within beginner's and help or something along those lines. It seems the most basic information, but maybe I am out of touch. There were already thread discussing decentralized exchanges, and it seems like you have very long posts that don't have too much substance in them sometimes. You earned a merit from HCP, I'd count that as a win.

Your instruction on how to upload a photo onto the forum would probably have gotten a merit from me if it wasn't approximately the 150th reply in the thread. It was very well written, informative and I would suggest creating your own thread unless there is already a similar one. HCP did the job for me on the submission after that, so I'll let that speak for itself and enjoy the merit. Suggesting where to find their profile was already done numerous times in the thread you did it within, so I can't see a reason to merit that. I feel like a lot of your posts were already explained earlier in the thread, but you do it in a much more creative fashion so I have to give you style points. You got a merit from HCP for one of these and I would consider that a win.

Suggesting an ICO is not something I'm interested in meriting.
2216  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: One (1) Merit point to Rank-up Service, Jr. to Hero Members Are Welcome. on: March 21, 2018, 08:21:49 PM
I appreciate the sentiment and the intention I believe you have behind offering this service. I believe you've submitted your posts in my merit thread before and so I can understand someone doing something similar. If I had more merit, and I was able to see a longer track record oh users merited I would toss you a couple to allow you to continue your service. I would make sure to read their previous post history if you are willing to be the person deciding whether or not they enter that threshold for ranking up. This would ensure you are not being taken advantage of in various ways by spammers and malevolent users.
2217  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do people actually use automated trading software like Gunbot? on: March 21, 2018, 07:59:41 PM
Is there any public and verifiable evidence that it produces returns that outperform the market?
Setting up a public thread to document real returns and actions would probably be appreciated by the community.

You can mark me down in that category. I would say that it is more than probably, and closer to almost certainly. I can't imagine that it could possibly have a negative effect if done properly. I've heard some real horror stories about these sort of programs, but the developers normally chalk it up to "bad settings" or something along those lines. It would be nice to have a place to discuss the real world outcomes of these programs, but I've found myself avoiding such software because of the horror stories of these programs trading away entire balances and taking huge losses without explanation.
2218  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: (WIP) Community Compiled List of Sites Browser Mining on: March 21, 2018, 07:04:51 PM
- For verification, a simple screenshot of the changes to CPU usage, can be good enough (while monitoring it using the "Resource Monitor" or other similar programs).

- In regards to formatting, perhaps we should remove websites that no longer use it and instead, have them in a separate section/list (this way we could easily scroll the list and also save some spaces).

Found a website that has compiled a lot of these websites (tested and some of them, no longer use it):

Should we only list crypto related websites or others too?

Do you think that looking at CPU usage would be sufficient for this kind of thing? I'm thinking a lot of poorly programmed sites, that simply use more resources than they should might get accused with that criteria. It might be a good place to start though.

I agree to the formatting suggestion, and I will change OP accordingly once I get a minute. I'm also going to go through that list that you linked and see if it is reasonable to incorporate that into my OP or simply link to it and create this list in addition to that. I think we should add all websites, because TPB isn't particularly related to crypto currency; it still has a significant impact in and on the cryptocurrency community.

I'd like to mention a site, playforcrypto.com

Thank you for your suggestion, added to OP, with your comments taken into consideration.
2219  Other / Meta / Re: Is it a bug? on: March 21, 2018, 06:35:02 PM
You can imagine that because it is a stat which is tracked that there are going to be people proud to be at the top of the list when it comes to those things. Therefore, there may even be certain people that compete at staying online more than anybody else, and like hilarious said they are more inclined to just leave auto-refresh scripts running or at the very least their browser stays open. I'm not sure if it automatically stops counting you as logged in if you are idle, or how that is calculated, but there are also people that tend more towards lurking than posting. These people will have more online time than would seem normal for the amount of posts they output.

I would only consider it a bug if they had more time online than possible, for example more time spent online than has passed since their registration or since the inception of the forums. Outside of that, I would consider it something closer to determination.
2220  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: POLONIEX deposit still not accredited after 50 days on: March 21, 2018, 04:35:07 PM
I think Poloniex has a failing business model, because if I remember correctly there was a lot of financial problems behind the scenes with that company. They were routinely freezing large deposits in order to offset their withdrawals and losses from their sketchy lending programs. I might be mistaking them for another company, but as far as I can tell this seems to be a part of their business model and not an earnest mistake.

For future reference I wouldn't work with these people, and I would do all sorts of research on the complaints leveled at whichever exchange or service you plan on using. In this case there is a lot of credibility to the complaints I've seen about Poloniex.

Also, I know this isn't something you want to hear right now, but for the sake of cleanliness in your thread it is proper practice to delete your old bumps, so you're not double-posting the same thing over and over again.

I wouldn't say you are out of luck or that your money is lost, it genuinely seems that it just takes this long for them to loop around to support tickets.
