2241  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Browser Mining Problems on: March 17, 2018, 05:24:59 AM
I will start keeping a list of sites that I come across. Most of them as of recent have been cryptocurrency news sites or aggregators.
That's great, I'll wait for that list that you'll make so that we will all be aware of those websites that are running a script to our browsers for them to mine with our PC.

I rarely visit crypto news website now because there are updates on social media so I'm reading most of the time there.

I agree with bill gator's suggestion that you should create a new list for that one.

It seems that OP really isn't that interested in publishing their list in a thread here, so I've decided to do so myself. I would love for them to contribute the list they're working on as well, because my thread won't be able to take off without input from the community.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3130937

This is where I will be compiling a list of the aforementioned sites.
2242  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's the most private way to buy and sell crypto? on: March 17, 2018, 03:23:28 AM
Private being defined as what exactly? Are you talking about general privacy, privacy from government prying, privacy from social engineering or data compilation and correlations? Are you talking about user-friendly privacy or fool-proof privacy?

There are endless situations, contingencies and considerations that would need to be clarified before a serious answer to your question could be considered.

You can purchase coins from a 3rd party exchanger here on the forum, then mix your coins with something like ChipMixer back to yourself and you're essentially a ghost. You can use exchanges that don't require KYC, or use an exchange that does require KYC depending on what you mean by "private". You might not realize it, but your question needs to be more specific or all you will be getting are opinions from each user about what works best for their situation, not yours.

For almost everyone no FFL is required.  If you live in say CA or another city/state that has restrictions, then yes.

The trouble is that I live in a place that is terrible for Bitcoin and Terrible for guns. It's not a fun process to obtain one legally, especially if you are interested in handguns or contemporary rifles.

I believe in your case it would need to be shipped to a FFL from the bit of research I've conducted.

I can call a person in your state to verify for you if you'd like.

I know you're extremely busy, but if you do end up finding the time I would appreciate you giving a call to verify what the deal is. I was pretty sure that an FFL was not required for ammunition, but it would make sense in concordance with the rest of the legislation that's been being piled on for the past decade or so. You don't have any "cheap" ($500 or so) rifles that you're trying to unload as well, do you?
2244  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to became form Newbie to Jr Member to Member any tips? on: March 17, 2018, 12:51:16 AM
The best way to rank up is to use the forum organically. You want to use it as it was intended to be used, this means only post when you have something genuinely unique and useful to contribute to a thread. If you have a question and are considering creating a thread about it, first use the Search function to make sure it has not been discussed to death already. Look far and wide for every sticky on the forum and read them carefully, multiple times.

I would read the following, right now :

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=20333.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1649348.0

There are many more worth reading, but this would be a good start as far as what is expected of you while you conduct yourself around the forum. To do some reading regarding activity and merit, which are required in order to rank up you can do so here :

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=237597.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0

I wouldn't worry too much about ranking up, I would be more concerned with learning as much as you can about the technology, the community, the forum, the rules, the opportunities, etc.

I would be interested in ordering a few boxes of rounds at least, but I'm wondering if ammunition needs to be shipped to an FFL? I'm quite far away from the nearest FFL or major store at all for that matter, so I would have to make accommodations if need be.
2246  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 16, 2018, 09:24:48 PM
I would have suggested Electrum, but now I’m confused.  If you run Core, then what is the problem?  Core v0.16 has full Segwit support, including in the GUI.  It can send to both native (BIP173/Bech32) and P2SH-nested Segwit addresses, as well as generating both types of addresses for receiving.

Apologies for the confusion. My problem is that almost all of my funds are on Nested SegWits that will not send to Native SegWit and I was not thinking in the moment to transfer some of the funds over to my Core address(es) to handle movement of the funds. There is no problem, anymore, the only problem at the time was me being in a rush and not considering what my options were so I just assumed I was unable to do so and sent it to Joe without further thought.

I did not know it could Generate both addresses, though so you've taught me something. We're all set for future movement of funds, at least from my end. Segwit of all types, nested, native or some creepy hybrid in between.
2247  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 16, 2018, 04:41:52 PM
After giving it a little bit of consideration I've decided to increase the amount of merit I'll hand out to 2nd place (at least for this round). It looks weird that 3rd place gets more merit than 2nd, even if there is a cash prize. I will give 3-Merit for 2nd place, instead of 1. I'll do my best to earn some more merit so that I can make it consistently a solid amount of merit; no promises, but maybe someday down the line I'll be able to become a source. One can only hope, but for now 3 is the best I can do and there is no promises for future rounds besides the original pledge of 1-merit.
2248  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 16, 2018, 04:17:03 PM
Native Segwit Addresses aren't supported by the wallets Joe and Bill Gator use. I suggest you try to make a P2SH Nested Segwit address for now till the issue is solved (or native becomes the "norm" enough for more wallets to support it)

This is something I am looking to remedy for future rounds. I'm open to suggestions, but I'm thinking I will probably just use my Electrum wallet for Native SegWit addresses. I believe I can transfer from Core to Electrum, so that's probably what I'll do so that we don't discourage SegWit usage. I suppose I don't even need to transfer it over to Electrum, could just send it directly from Core to the Native SegWit addresses of participants. It's something I'm perfectly willing and happy to do for participants. I just had a bit of a brain hiccup when it came time to send the winnings at the end of last round, because I was in quite a rush and didn't have time to consider the solutions.

There are no Nested SegWit wallets/clients that offer compatibility with Native SegWit addresses that I know of; is there such a thing currently? There might be technical complications that I'm failing to consider that make this impossible for now.
2249  Other / Meta / Re: Report Sufficiently Answered Topic(s) to Lock on: March 16, 2018, 03:44:55 PM
A slightly off topic but a suggestion: In many of the tech forums where you discuss related to issues and whatnot, the users who ask questions have an option wherein they can vote whether the post helped them solve their issue or not. I'm thinking if those sort of ideas would help or not.
There are a couple of things that came in mind:-
If a query is answered, the user who asked the question can deem it to be helpful/not helpful.
If the issue is solved, the thread will be automatically locked. And no one can necrobump it later on. If not autolocked, the mods can verify the issue to be solved and thread will be locked by them? This would be a hassle for the mods, autolocking feature does help here?  This is just a sort of a basic idea. And who knows, this may help stop shitposting same thing over and over again. Maybe even combine this idea along side the merit system.

That's not off topic at all, but if we were to apply such a system it would probably serve best within specific boards. It would be wonderful in the Development & Technical Discussion, Bitcoin Technical Support, Beginners & Help sections and maybe a few others that I am forgetting, but unfortunately I think most of the spam finds itself in other boards. I really like the idea of automatically locking "Solved" threads though, and enabling a User-Friendly way to label posts as the "Solution" in some way. Connecting it with the merit system would enable abuse I think, but without it we might be able to just simply disincentivize spam complimentary to the merit system while remaining separate.

The same thing happened here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2678858.0

Newbie question that was answered to the OPs satisfaction back at the beginning of January and then people just come along and answer it again. I reported the first one that did it this morning but now it is in sight again others just join in. In this case, the OP isn't even active, so unless a moderator locks it this will go on forever.

That should be a more clear cut situation IMO; mods should be perfectly willing to lock a thread that the OP is inactive and has been sufficiently responded to. It would seem common sense to narrow the opportunity of threads to spam in, and ultimately give mods less work in the long run.

The thread starter can always lock a thread if he thinks it has served it's purpose. I locked my thread about today's merit give away, as I thought it hd the potential to become a spam fest.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3136930.0

A couple of things that thread starters may not realise are - You can unlock the thread, and add to it, or edit your posts, you can then lock it again. The other thing is that it looks as if merits can still be awarded to posts in locked threads.

You're a good person for having etiquette when you start a thread. I fear that too many users are unaware and uninformed in the worst ways; some might not even know they can lock their threads, some might not know they can unlock it (as you've said) or maybe even fear they won't be able to receive merit. The worst users are those that do not care and simply remove the spamfest they've created from their watchlist.
2250  Other / Meta / Re: Report Sufficiently Answered Topic(s) to Lock on: March 16, 2018, 02:49:35 PM
I don't think mods really have the time for it since they're already dealing with a lot of stuff.

I just replied on another related thread that maybe a solution to this would be to automatically lock threads after X pages (but still leave an un-lock button for the OP to use in case he needs to) because clearly the OP doesn't really care about it after he gets his replies.

I agree, mods are never short on work. There is always something for them to do, and always more for them to do than they can do within a day. Automatically locking a thread might be a good idea, but it would need some very careful parameters or it is going to cause a lot of confusion and frustrated users. There will be giants threads that are useful to some degree that will get caught up in this, such as the Wall Observer thread. Then the question becomes, if the OP unlocks the thread will it automatically re-lock after X replies/pages? I think it would either be "abuse-able" in that it could be avoidable, it will be unfortunate for a portion of users or some combination of the two.

I've seen some mods share their personal criteria for this kind of thing, I know there is at least one mod that will lock topics that have been sufficiently answered/discussed. I'm wondering if this is universal amongst the mods, what their individual criteria are for locking threads and if there is a more formal way of alerting the mods about these threads they may have overlooked while doing their other laundry list of duties.
2251  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Dried Morel mushrooms! $15 oz and $200 LB. Free shipping for 1st purchase. on: March 16, 2018, 02:23:41 PM
By some miracle I made it in time Cheesy

Your tracking is in your private messages <3

I'll PM that other stuff by tomorrow night!

Color me impressed.
I wasn't expecting you to even make an attempt at shipping them last night, so thank you for going that extra mile.
I had a bad dream that you published my Tracking and shipping address then started a witch hunt (no clue why). Happy to wake up and not have that be the case, whew, strange dream.

I'll hold you to it, I'm gonna hassle you (in the best way) about the recipes, preparations and all of that. My friends think the idea of a "meaty" mushroom sounds gross, but they don't know anything about the finer things.
2252  Other / Meta / Report Sufficiently Answered Topic(s) to Lock on: March 16, 2018, 01:52:57 PM
I can't find anything that explicitly answers this question for me, so I figured I might as well make a little Meta post and see what's going on. I've seen a lot of topics, as we all have, that are full of repetitive answers, redundancies and plain ole' spam. Not only mega-threads, but regular questions like in the beginner's and help section; a newbie will pop a question, get it answered, acknowledge they have received their answer and then dozens of people continue to post the same answer. I'm wondering if it is appropriate or accurate to report these posts to a moderator to be locked?

An example of a thread that I was watching can be found here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3123906.msg32423969;topicseen#msg32423969 , and I even suggested to OP they lock their thread after they received their answer. Is there any solution to this kind of problem or am I to just ignore it?

I sent the OP a PM to please lock their topic, I've posted in their thread instructions on how to do so and so now my only thought is hoping that moderators would be receptive to this kind of reporting and work.
2253  Economy / Goods / Re: Fortnite Standard Edition CD-KEY GLOBAL [Instant Delivery] 8$ on: March 16, 2018, 02:25:24 AM
You're thinking of the Battle Royal portion.

Yes, indeed I am thinking of the Battle Royal version of the game. I was unaware that there was any other version of the game. The impression I got of the game was that it was just trying to be a worse free to play version of PUBG. I've been biased against Fortnite since the beginning, when they're suing children for copyright infringement that are hacking their game while they are dancing on the copyright infringement line themselves. My mistake on that, but I still would advise against purchasing from this user even if they have exactly what you are looking for and you don't have a dollar extra to spare for it. I would be willing to bet $8 that you lose your money and get nothing in return; if you can prove you get something from this users auto-buy link then I will cover the $8 you spent to get it or even just check that it will work. If you don't get anything, then consider yourself a victim.
2254  Economy / Goods / Re: Fortnite Standard Edition CD-KEY GLOBAL [Instant Delivery] 8$ on: March 16, 2018, 01:45:07 AM
Fortnite is a Free to Play game, I don't understand why someone would purchase a key for this game. Literally nobody is going to fall for this. What does this key propose to offer me? As far as I know fortnite has never offered keys for their game, in any capacity.

Who is Dan#3923?
What market are you low balling?

I'm so confused, because I've googled the title of your thread here and many sales from ebay, playerauctions and other sites are popping up like crazy. This doesn't make sense to me, because the game is free; what is being offered with this CD-Key?

In all seriousness, you just registered today and this is your first post. From everything I know, I would not hesitate to say that this account is a throwaway and you are hoping to just catch at least one fool to grab your empty auto-sell link. I would advise against purchasing from this user, even if they are offering what you are looking for.
2255  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why does not the rank of Jr.Member change on Member? on: March 16, 2018, 01:31:26 AM
the merit system like people above have said ... , it is necessary in my eyes to stop spamming

It is necessary to stop spamming, yet you are perfectly okay with being the 4th person to say the exact same thing. You've acknowledged that others have said this already, meaning you decided to post the exact same information that has already been posted multiple times for no good reason. You did not add anything to the conversation.

The system of ranks has changed. Now to get a Member you need to earn merits. Merit you can earn if you publish useful posts and other participants will appreciate them and send merits.
You will need merits (min. 10) in order to promote from Jr. Member to Member. Maybe they changed the system to stop the spams.

This is exactly why I suggest locking the thread; even though these people are well aware that you have received your answer they will continue to post the same information and spam your thread until you decide to lock it. It is poor etiquette to walk away from a thread carelessly once you are satisfied with what you have gotten out of it. It leaves quite the mess behind.
2256  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Browser Mining Problems on: March 15, 2018, 11:14:41 PM
I have not actually encountered any browser mining sites myself, or maybe it's just that none of these sites have ever notified me about their secretive mining operation so I never took notice. Undecided

This is not different at all from stealing. They are making money from your resources without letting you know.

I agree, a list of all the sites that are known to secretly mine with people's hardware and power without letting them know and consent should be put out in public.

Consider yourself lucky or that the mining with your resources has gone unnoticed. I'm a little hesitant to call it stealing/theft, simply because it could be argued either way in my opinion pretty validly. All I want from these sites/companies is to be notified, informed, asked whether I would prefer ads or browser mining or something. I'm going to do my best to start a little community compiled list of those sites that are using browser mining. You can find the starting point here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3130937.msg32380390#msg32380390 , since it seems like OP won't be starting the thread themselves. I don't have any off the top of my head, and I am absolutely desperate for contributions to that list/thread.
2257  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 15, 2018, 10:48:42 PM
Permission granted Smiley

If you view the spreadsheet, you will see a newly added section for posts that I consider meritorious. You can easily choose one member a week amongst the participants to award the merit to. I will also try to include the top posts of the week at the end of each round, but this is dependent of how much time I have available lol

I like the implementation of the "meritorious posts" section for the challenge participants. This gives participants an increased chance at being noticed by a higher ranking member with a lot of merit and therefore more likely to earn merit. This offers people the chance to get involved and sponsor the challenge without committing to a cash sponsor or a continuous merit sponsor; users are now able to simply take a peak at the meritorious posts and decide whether or not they would like to contribute to what we are accomplishing.

I imagine we will see a lot of recidivism within this challenge, so I would assume that Round 3 and onward will have a 3rd place cash prize. Unless we have some more rule-breakers, that is.

I'll be throwing around extra merits here and there for thought-provoking discussions, posts, tutorials or whatever else fits my criteria. I'll do "Merit reviews" like I do in my thread for random participants now and then.

Welcome to Crypto bahahaha Wink Cheesy (teasing.)

I thought you were different.  Cry

I'll have those shipped out tomorrow because I fear that I wouldn't make the Post Office in time if I left right now (I live out in the sticks atm).

I'll shoot you your tracking tomorrow afternoon!

Thank you very much and I hope you enjoy them.

No rush, I kept you waiting almost a week or so while I counted my pennies for morels; I don't expect same-day delivery. I know the feeling of being out in the boonies, trust me. Whenever you get the chance will be fine, shoot me the tracking number whenever convenient. I'll go on strike if I don't get some good recipes and instructions. I'm sure I will enjoy them, unless I sprinkle them dry and uncooked over something unworthy.
2259  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Dried Morel mushrooms! $15 oz and $200 LB. Free shipping for 1st purchase. on: March 15, 2018, 09:16:25 PM
I meant shipping on the house... sorry about that!  I probably should have phrased it differently. <3

Let me know if that is still generous enough to take me up on the offer:  1GztSRhuQr8jFhfhAUYRXBVbmEDLSkgs9U

Be sure to PM me your shipping after $15 payment!

I got $15 according to Preev.com sent to your 1GztSRhuQr8jFhfhAUYRXBVbmEDLSkgs9U Address that was provided.

Should be confirming relatively shortly, if not by the time you read this post.

The same address provided above is fine!

I'll provide you with my recommendations after I get them shipped <3.

Holding those recommendations hostage, eh? Savagery. I will PM you a shipping address momentarily. Thanks for providing shipping free of charge, while offering a pretty solid rate on these bad boys. As long as they are quality and enjoyable you can assume yourself a new repeat customer.
2260  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Dried Morel mushrooms! $15 oz and $200 LB. Free shipping for 1st purchase. on: March 15, 2018, 07:15:56 PM
No rush man. <3

But ping me on here when you do, so I make sure I notice + I'll need the shipping address PM'ed or what not.

I have $15 I can happily spare to try some of these delicacies. Should I send it to the same address you gave me before or would you like it sent to a new address? I'll be using Preev's rate at the time of sending if that is alright with you. I will PM the shipping address and look forward to recipes, preparation instructions and hopefully a new favorite treat. I'll shoot you a PM if you don't reply to this today, because I'm not sure if ping meant a reply here or a PM. Either way, I'm ready.
