2042  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Major indian exchange gets hacked, 438 bitcoins stolen COINSECURE on: April 16, 2018, 08:49:32 PM
Only 438 BTC taken in this attack, eh? We've seen worse. I can already hear TheButterZone waking up in a cold-sweat, screaming himself awake in the dead of night over this kind of thing. This is specifically why people tell users to avoid using exchanges at all, but especially to use them as trusted storage. Lauda said it, these exchanges are not set up in any organized or qualified manner and it often is luck not competence that provoked a particular exchange to the peak of popularity. Once these exchanges become popular and have large holdings of Bitcoin these failures become exploited viciously.

It seems promising that there is every sign that the funds will be returned to their owners with the exception of only losing whatever trade profit they could have earned during the time of investigation.

Good call to remove the moderator, even if it is only a temporary measure, because this is a dicey situation that needs to be tread upon lightly.
2043  Economy / Speculation / Re: Well bitcoin goes up to 100,000$ in the future? on: April 16, 2018, 04:59:15 PM
Bitcoin won't become the #1 world currency. Existing governments will destroy Bitcoin before allowing their currency to fail or be overpowered by it.

This is assuming that existing governments do not collapse under the own weight of their stupidity beforehand. This is also assuming that existing governments will not prop Bitcoin up in an attempt to be seen as economic pioneers.

At the current rate of supply and demand bitcoin has an $8,000 valuation. To reach $100,000, with supply remaining steady, we need to increase demand by 12.5 times (100,000 / 8,000).

I have never thought about a simple increase in demand in this regard, but it would seem rather shallow. I say this, because the increased demand will cause fluctuation in the marketable supply. As demand, or price increases those that have been HODLing tremendous amount of coins will be more willing to add to the supply in circulation, which will at least somewhat offset the demand. In purest terms though, you are correct in that we would need a 12.5 times increase in demand to see that price-point. I'm just mentioning certain obstacles that would make calculating it more difficult.

It's impossible to know exactly how many people own Bitcoin today...which is the figure we need to know to arrive at what the demand would have to be (exactly) to drive the price to $100,000. But we can do some estimating.

Example: If 1 Million people in the world own Bitcoin today, we'd need 12.5 Million people in the world to own bitcoin to drive the price to $100,000.

Your example only works if the "new demanders" bring with them an equal ratio of demand for Bitcoin as the original 1 Million. As we've seen though, people that are becoming interested in Bitcoin seem to be less dedicated, invested, or interested in the currency. So let's assume there is 1 Million people using Bitcoin now, the demand does not go up proportional to the next 12.5 Million people interested in owning Bitcoin unless they are equally as demanding as the original 1 Million. I don't know if I've explained that properly.

It's also not impossible to know exactly how many people own Bitcoin, but we are certainly incapable of accomplishing that at the moment.

When you think about it this way the ability to achieve the $100k price point becomes a lot more realistic.

It makes just about any price point outside of the absurd seem very realistic.

I saw one study that suggested 5% of Americans own Bitcoin. That's not representative of all people that own Bitcoin nor the percentage of every other country's population that owns bitcoin. But what if we say it's .5-1% of the world population that own Bitcoin, so 35-70 Million people own Bitcoin, we need to increase that number by 12.5 times -- 420-840 Million people. or 12% of the world population.

I don't think 35 million people own Bitcoin, I think it's less, but you get the idea on how we can play with the numbers.

Compare that against the amount of people with a Facebook and we've got some very realistic opportunity for Bitcoin to be worth $100,000+ without a problem. I'd argue that there are less than 20-million Bitcoin holders, even fewer that actually understand the technology or use anything other than an exchange in relation to Bitcoin. I'd also argue that 65% of the 5% of Americans claiming to own Bitcoin are liars. Cheesy

If I can't get merit for this I don't know what will. Thanks
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3330317.msg34809676#msg34809676

You're joking, right? I literally started laughing out loud, after reading your reply I thought to myself "This is going to be good." I then clicked on your link and didn't bother reading through anything except the title. You clearly haven't read any previous reviews or the OP, because rewarding people for discussions about bounties is not something I am interested in. This encourages the wrong kind of users to do the wrong kind of activities. Plus your goal is $10,000 and you've only got $20 to show. This is laughably stupid.
2045  Economy / Services / Re: Bounty Manager on: April 16, 2018, 03:34:03 PM
I know I've already said a bit of my piece on the matter, but I can see that you are receiving an expected amount of unsuitable and unqualified applicants. It would be a waste of your time to even consider most of these people; they are simply in it for the pay-check and have no clue what is being asked of them. They have never run a campaign in the past, and they are unaware of what it takes to run one properly. Even many of those that claim they have run campaigns in the past have run these campaigns into the ground.
2046  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 + 8 Merits every week! (Round 6) on: April 16, 2018, 01:41:51 PM
I have somehow made it a habit of mine to check this thread more than any other for some reason. I'm waiting with baited breathe for the announcement of this rounds winners. I've got my merit handy for those that are deserving and hopefully I'll find some interesting discussions to hop in, because my review thread has been rather unfruitful in these regards lately.

You've broken a local-rule by formatting your links the way you have chosen to. Please feel free to resubmit your posts once you have read OP in it's entirety and fully understand the rules.

Possibly the best post I have seen on this board for a long time... I haven't seen anything else that comes even close to this recently!

And because I have so much sMerit burning a hole in a my pocket, I was feeling extra generous... +5 for you Wink

HCP Is getting froggy around here Shocked ; Again, thank you HCP for poking your head in around here and helping out where you see fit. It really goes a long way, maybe more than you realize. Keep doing your thing.

You've broken a local-rule by formatting your links the way you have chosen to. Please feel free to resubmit your posts once you have read OP in it's entirety and fully understand the rules.

The forum would be a better place if neither of these posts were written. They add nothing to the discussion, thread or conversation and are void of any substantive claims, premises or conclusions. I am not interested in these in the slightest and I hope you are capable of doing more.
2048  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto on: April 15, 2018, 04:07:17 PM
I don't even understand what the purpose of creating this thread could possibly be. This has been discussed probably more than any other topic about Bitcoin, and to be honest it simply isn't that important. It doesn't matter who Satoshi is and they are clearly very interested in keeping themselves anonymous. This alone  should be enough for you to give them their space. Most of these people have been proven to not be who they say they are, or at the very least are verifiably not Satoshi. You can use the Search function to see how the community feels about this issue, but beating a dead horse isn't going to do any good.
2049  Other / Meta / Re: Who is able and willing to moderate the Politics & Society section? on: April 15, 2018, 01:33:08 PM
The application thread for moderator on P&S become a debating session

Yes, imagine a world where people have opposing viewpoints and seek to resolve them through discussion. What a crazy world that would be. People become impassioned through their opinions and often this will manifest itself through exaggeration expression. People are not always going to like what other people have to say about them, but if we're going to have an honest discussion then we have to risk people feeling insulted; there is no other way.

This is not simply an application thread, but a thread where we discuss the prospects and share our opinions about them. theymos said it directly, but I'm not sure that you've read the OP.
2050  Economy / Services / Re: [1 SLOT OPEN] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: April 15, 2018, 01:24:46 PM
Place your bets boys, I've got my horse for this race picked. Grin

Week 10 Payment received and confirmed. Thanks, yet again, ChipMixer & DarkStar_. Adding a cut-off time was probably a good move for organization sake, easier to keep track of things that way if I had to guess.
2051  Other / Meta / Re: Who is able and willing to moderate the Politics & Society section? on: April 15, 2018, 01:17:29 PM
Make a list from 2-3 years ago - most normal posters stopped visiting politics&society

Why would that list be relevant in any which way?
If they have stopped visiting the sub and haven't reported a post within the last 3-months, then why would that matter?
2052  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: April 15, 2018, 01:12:59 PM

None of these are worth merit. Some of them are buried in spam megathreads that are never read and are certainly not interesting. The rest of them just read like generic posts that are regurgitating information said previously in the same thread. None of these stick out as interesting, informative or helpful.

Your first submission is a useless post in a Spam-megathread that has already been merited, so I will leave that as it is. Again, mostly the same as the previous user, spam megathreads, or useless posts that read generic and seek to repeat information that has already been presented multiple times throughout the thread. These are not interesting.

I was going to give you a merit point, but I don't have a great supply and HCP already has done a tremendous job in my place. This is truly a good post, and you are deserving of every merit point that has fallen upon you because of it. Keep it up!

This is not a post that is something I am interested in giving merit to.
2053  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: April 14, 2018, 09:06:50 PM
Please see or review my post. I just want to know if my post is enough to get merit. Please give me some advise on how to improve my post in every topic that ill be participating in this thread.

Now how am I supposed to review your post if you don't submit any posts for review? I can't give you advice, except "Read the OP, before posting in the thread." At this point I'm just confused what you are even doing in the thread if you haven't read or understand what is going on. Please, read the OP and then circle-back when you fully understand the rules.

I don't generally follow links off-site as a rule. I like to see content on the forum, rather than the forum being a medium to link to other content. I get peeved about clicking around to strange places, even if I believe it to be innocent.

You submitted multiple times without waiting for me to review your original submission. I didn't catch it until now, so this is automatically rejected. Not that it would've received merit, anyways.

Turns out I had the perfect amount of Reserve posts, and we're all caught up.  Cool
2054  Economy / Economics / Re: Would a world war affect the price of Crypto? on: April 14, 2018, 01:12:16 PM
Cryptocurrency has a higher possibility of surviving a world war than any other currency I can think of. Obviously commodities will maintain their value, but in relation to what will certain fall into question. As investors lose faith in the currency or cannot support the actions of a country then that currency is going to take a hit. If too many significant hits take place, then there will be mass economic panic driving the prices of gold and Bitcoin through the roof. Especially considering as those investors leave the value of the currency will fall, while the the price of the cryptocurrency increases at a rate unlike any we've seen in the past.

I think a world war might actually enable cryptocurrency to show itself for how useful it truly is, unattached from the politics of any particular country or economy.
2055  Other / Meta / Re: Is this acceptable use for the merit system? on: April 14, 2018, 01:07:56 PM
Don't worry Gator, I do appreciate it just a tad more when people include sources, but you still deserve something for mentioning it first.

That's hilarious to me that you went back and gave it a merit. I was only feigning my dissatisfaction, and I don't want you to feel extorted in any way.  Grin
I bow to thee, humbly.

On a side note, starting that thread in the services section was one of my worst ideas ever, now I get spammed by people wanting to earn something for posting a reply.
Dude wants me to pay him 2 dollars for every reply to my thread Tongue

Hello I want to offer you quality comments for only 2$/contructive comment on your thread.

I think you can report those PMs if you are not already doing so. Plus $2 per reply is robbery for what they're going to offer, unless he is bringing something rather insurmountable and unforeseen to the table.
2056  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What does everyone think of Jordan Peterson? on: April 14, 2018, 01:17:26 AM
Jordan Peterson is a big influence for why I got my life somewhat together, or at least have started to view things in a way that is more motivating. Anyone that claims they are a Nazi is someone that is willing to accept the claims of others without verifying it for themselves. I don't find anything that he says to be controversial, unless you are simply offended by facts or certain mundane words.
2057  Economy / Services / Re: Bounty Manager on: April 13, 2018, 03:27:35 PM
I see that some people have suggested that you take a look at yahoo or Lutpin and I certainly would agree that you should travel along this Vein. There are a handful of extremely talented and skilled managers that can help you out, but they will not stand for any nonsense either. You will get what you put into it, and they will most likely require escrowed funds up-front so that there is no nonsense.

Lauda , Lutpin, DarkStar_, yahoo62278, hilariousandco and a few others are the best names in the business. Always make sure there is no scam accusations against your campaign manager and make sure they have also done work in the past that has gone well.

Most of the best managers are not going to apply within your thread, and I've seen a lot of projects stop dead in their tracks because of a bad manager. They give your project a bad reputation on this forum and then it spreads like the plague. Put a lot of thought into your manager, because there are some people that claim to be solid managers that are known frauds.
2058  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit Source @digaran has gone too far on: April 13, 2018, 02:11:00 PM
Why would you think that?

It was meant as a joke, as digaran always says that someone is alt of someone. You should not take me seriously at all Tongue

Wait a minute, is this Joke-ception or is someone out of the loop? I'm 100% positive that suchmoon was just being sarcastic when they asked "Why would you think that?", because literally_farming_merits is an alt of digaran. Then you say that it was meant as a joke and we're not supposed to take you seriously, so I'm very confused. You are aware that it is his alternate account right?

Unless you are in some deep satire that I'm failing to comprehend.

How the hell do you get fisted from "ham-fisted"? Huh

This is why you're making more enemies the more you open your mouth. Because you take things out of context, and then spin them into slanderous and inappropriate insults in your replies.

Thanks for providing me with yet another account to add to my ignore list. Roll Eyes

The man is obsessed and repressed. I'm sure just about everything works out to a double entendre for digaran. If you ignore the accounts, then what fun is the thread?  Grin
2059  Other / Meta / Re: Who is able and willing to moderate the Politics & Society section? on: April 13, 2018, 01:54:05 PM
Master Bill Gates, it is much appreciated to elaborate more on "not applying but interested" if you are not applying, then you are interested in kissing other people's asses. how could you blindly endorse somebody else and expect to be treated equally?

Always a pleasure, mister digaran; my wonderful jump buddy. If you will notice I have added quotation marks around "blindly", and this should indicate to you that it has some elasticity to it's true definition. I say blindly, because I referring directly to my ignorance of specifically LoyceV's stance on free speech. I give my endorsement because they, in my opinion formulated from my limited knowledge of only a few of those on the list, would be the best decision. theymos is looking for thoughts, so I gave my 2-cents, whether it is considered relevant or even read is up to them. I hope this gives you a clearer picture about where I'm at.

I say not applying, but interested, because there are those more qualified that should be considered and exhausted as options before I would consider applying. No sense in muddying the waters and taking up forum resources for my application/consideration when not even I think it is appropriate.

Translation: I know no other way to suck for a particular member, even though they have strong belief in common sense, yet disregarding it with their avatar and what it says in their signature. perfectly fit together.

Oh sweet digaran, are you jealous? I am unsure if you are accusing me of sucking up or not, you'll have to be more clear. I was simply referencing my extremely limited knowledge about Vod having a run-in with BADecker, which resulted in a negative rating from Vod; Vod being a DT member this would seem to be their greatest enforcement of "official" power at this moment. I am wondering how this would translate, moving forward, if Vod were extended greater power of enforcement. I honestly would like elaboration around this topic from Vod, if possible. Since, that's what this thread is about, anyways.

You'll have to clue me in about the avatar and signature, because whatever you're getting at went over my head. Are you saying Vod is contradicting their belief in common sense, because of their avatar and signature? That one has me scratching my head.

Translation: I'm below this person, he is way above my head, I'd blindly endorse for him. you don't know that by doing what you just did, you lowered yourself down with him. for example, don't be a plumber and then say you are endorsing a doctor. or don't answer somebody else's questions when 2 people are in a serious discussion. it's called sucking for others vehemently.

I don't think that's how you use "vehemently", but I've been wrong before. I'm not a plumber, and moderators aren't doctors. Your analogy skills could use some work, brother. Which two people were in a serious discussion? You go off on tangents like a mad-man and your thought-process is pretty hard to follow.

For clarification though, I do believe LoyceV is imminently more qualified for the role of moderator. so in that regard I am "below" them; if we were ranking ourselves honestly, then I cannot see myself ranking above them. Your self-evaluation skills are pretty terrible, digaran, so I understand why it is tough for you to comprehend somebody being honest about their limitations and acknowledging another's talent.

This is an open-discussion about who is going to moderate a section that heavily revolves around free speech and everyone is qualified to voice their opinion.

Note, I might apply to become the president of the united nations, freedom of speech department only.
@dig the loser: stop expressing so much of your opinions openly. DT cartels despise so much truth to be told, they already have so many excuses to tag you with. shut your potty mouth and go back in the shadows posting from the script every day and be happy. sucking to people often would be a good thing. you lonely virgin. OK I literally loled.

As long as you can laugh at yourself. That's what really matters.

It does seem like you're either on a power-trip or trolling everyone you come across. I hope you don't actually consider yourself in the running for moderator.
2060  Economy / Speculation / Re: 60 minutes and Bitcoin value jumped to $7,800 on: April 13, 2018, 04:25:41 AM
It sounds like you have a pretty negative outlook on the future of Bitcoin. You simply say that you believe it will sink below $6,800 without providing any reason why you believe this to be the case. My guess is that nobody knows what is going to happen and so this discussion is rather vapid. Price jumps in Bitcoin normally happen at the drop of a hat. They are extremely quick, and if you step away for a sandwich before checking the price again you may have missed the biggest opportunity of a lifetime. This is nothing out of the ordinary and I would expect to see more jolts in price, whether they be upwards or downwards.

You should make a Song Cover of "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" and replace the chorus with "Will it Sink or Will it Rise?", that might be a catchy jingle if you really put your heart into it. I wouldn't rely on what anybody is going to tell you, but my own personal opinion is : Rise. Look at any long-term chart of Bitcoin and you'll notice that it's been trending upwards forever, without flaw. Don't be concerned when Bitcoin drops below it's ATH or has a tough patch, simply consider those times a good time to buy some extra coin and HODL.
