2401  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible that some replies are being deleted? on: February 20, 2018, 03:41:36 AM
I'm pretty sure that when a moderator deletes your message you will receive a Private Message here on the forum explaining who deleted it, why and which post it was. Not sure if this is the case every-time, but I've seen that exact message for people before.

I believe if you are posting in a self-moderated thread and your post is deleted by OP/self-moderator then you will not be notified and your post will disappear in the wind. Sometimes there is no reason, other than the OP not liking what you have to say.

You only have a couple posts, it would not seem to be very difficult for you to keep track of which posts were deleted and then attempt to deduce why that may be the case from there. Simply start keeping a record of your posts, and then you can easily see which of them is missing.

It is also possible that the entire thread has been deleted by a moderator and if this is the case you will also not be informed about it. This normally means the thread didn't abide by the rules or guidelines.

So, it is not always possible to know why, but you can do your part and at least figure out which (maybe even when).
2402  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any where you can share a job that pays bitcoin? on: February 20, 2018, 03:14:36 AM
I want to earn more so I need help
•What are the things you do to find more work? And where?

Lauda has written a very good introduction for newbies like yourself looking to get into the world of earning BTC. There is a lot to learn, more so than anyone could ever share with you in a single thread. If you are serious about earning BTC, there is no easy solution and there is no "for sure" path, either. You can begin your reading here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1629118.0

We all want to earn more, but you also can not expect to earn to a greater capacity than you are informed.

•What can a noob do? Like being a moderator or a maneger of campaign?
•Can you share the capacity the knowledge on how to start managing a campaign or being a moderator?
•In managing a campaign what should a noob learn first?

Somebody that is new or uninformed would be leagues away from either being a moderator or campaign manager. These are two extremely specialized areas of expertise that require very specific skills, experience and reputation. I would advise against these paths for now, because they would be very far down the road and not realistic as a short-term goal or strategy.

Campaign Managers are picked by companies that want to run a signature campaign and feel they will not have the resources or the know-how to handle such a task. Companies entrust thousands of dollars to campaign managers and would not do so lightly.

Moderators are selected as they are needed and there are endless qualified candidates.

•In being a moderator do one account should be old and atleast a legendary or it can be like me a full member?

See, this is the kind of thing that a moderator candidate should not need to ask about. There is no rank requirement for moderator as far as I know; that being said, being as new or inactive as you'd need to be to maintain a Full Member rank would certainly be unattractive in a moderator candidate.
2403  Economy / Services / Re: A simple bitcoin Q/A. Learn new and interesting stuff about bitcoin. on: February 19, 2018, 07:49:52 PM
Just to say, I didn't know the answer to this. My first assumption was that he wrote the code first (as the whitepaper has some excerpts of coding) but now looking online I see that v0.1 was released on Jan 8 2009... meaning to say the whitepaper was published at least two months before the first version release...

My guess is that the whitepaper still had to be completed after he compiled his first coding, so would still believe it had to be written first. He had to solve the problems Bitcoin aimed to do (direct, trustless p2p payments)... the whitepaper was not so much a proposal for a way to find the solution, but a proposal to use his creation as the solution.

If I'm wrong, and the whitepaper was, indeed, published first... then he did it to gauge the cypherpunk community's interest to decide if the code was worth completing.

Note: I use third person "he" but only figuratively.

P.S. Thanks for this initiative guys! I'm sure I'll learn from the responses.

I would encourage you to research Satoshi's exact quotes on this sort of thing. Your answer is correct, they wrote the code for Bitcoin before releasing the whitepaper. I am unsure about all of the times of release, and which hit public eye first; but at least from their perspective and words this is what happened :

Quote
I actually did this kind of backwards. I had to
write all the code before I could convince myself that I could solve every
problem, then I wrote the paper. I think I will be able to release the code
sooner than I could write a detailed spec. -Satoshi

I would suggest anyone to read some of their original e-mail threads (most of my questions come from sources such as this) : http://satoshi.nakamotoinstitute.org/emails/cryptography/1/

It's funny that you worded it almost exactly the same as them, talking about solving problems, etc.

Question :

In Satoshi's old e-mails they imply that handling as many transactions as Visa should not be a problem.
What does this imply about the development of Bitcoin?
Specifically, what is one parameter that would need to be changed and to what value to accommodate such heavy transaction flow?

Hint: Controversial
Hint 2: Light Math
2404  Economy / Services / Re: A simple bitcoin Q/A. Learn new and interesting stuff about bitcoin. on: February 19, 2018, 07:17:37 PM
Yes, Bitcoin does have a solution and it is called the proof-of-work algorithm. So to alter "the message" (a block of transactions in our case) as in the classic Byzantine Generals problem and to make it look authentic by guessing a new nonce, one would need to use more Hash Power than the entire network. Since the current Hash Rate is around 23 million TH/s, to achieve that they would need to buy 1.5 million of Antminer S9.

Btw my proposal remains in force in case you'll find it helpful.

I did not mean to ignore your proposal, but yes that would be excellent. Pugman replies to posts above (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2968050.msg30525496#msg30525496), they even responded to you. I will run it by pugman, since it is their thread, but it should not be a problem for us to simply send you a PM when somebody needs a merit or I could keep a little list of people that need their Post # merited. This would help us keep this running without any concern, I appreciate it and accept.

That being said, yes your answer is also correct so I've given you a merit. This means do not attempt to answer the next question.

Question :

Did Satoshi write the Bitcoin Whitepaper or write the code for Bitcoin first?
Why did he choose the one he did to do first?
2405  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Merit point giveaway for alt coin miners Question to mod of altcoin mining. on: February 19, 2018, 05:49:33 PM
I never said I deserve it.

Oh good, then we both agree that you do not deserve to rank-up.
Then there is no problem.

I just said if purpose is to make it fair, it should
treat everyone equal, and current system doesn't do that. I don't see how purposefully
cherrypicking some of my posts to make me look bad contributes to the health of forum, either

The purpose is not to make it "fair" or treat everyone equally; equity is not the goal. The goal is to discourage people like yourself from posting nonsense (because the primary benefit has been nullified), as I have referenced. The purpose was exactly the opposite of treating everyone equal; it was meant to separate people like you from people that contribute to the community and reward the people that actually contribute. That was not cherry-picking, that is representative of your posting as a whole.

Pointing out your flaws, bad-habits and harmful activity in hopes that you improve yourself, see the error of your ways or just get discouraged enough to leave the forum entirely would certainly be good for the forum.

I am not going to continue muddying philip's thread, by going back and forth with someone that doesn't deserve it. If you'd like to continue this conversation, send me a PM; not contributing anymore to your worthless attempt to farm merit/activity.
2406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Merit point giveaway for alt coin miners Question to mod of altcoin mining. on: February 19, 2018, 05:26:02 PM
What you say doesn't make much sense, because you just told me that if my account was 10 days older, I would deserve to be Senior member, but because I didn't sign up 10 days earlier,
I deserve it to be postponed few years? Cheesy

Ranks mean a lot if you're into bounty campaigns

I never said that and I would highly recommend you stop lying. Please, where did I ever say that you deserved to be ranked up if you signed up 10-days earlier? You either have me confused with somebody else, you have no clue what I'm saying or you are blatantly lying.

If you cannot earn merit as intended, then you should be postponed indefinitely; you should never rank up if you are unable to earn merit.

You should be more into the health of the forum than you are about your own rank, but it appears you care more about your rank for signature campaigns then you care about the forum. This says a lot about you, so please stop purposefully twisting my words so that you can say something you believe to be witty and cute.

These represent 99% of your posts, they are not even a full sentence, they add nothing to the conversation, you regularly post in useless mega-threads. I see why you are upset, because you post nonsense all day.

Good list, but why you think Daneel doesn't have competition? What about one in my sig (Gimmer)?
Poor zombies
I concur
I think you have problem with math Smiley
What card?
Price just exploded

Starting to see a pattern? I could go all day with these type of posts from you. I haven't even edited these, this is your full post for each of these quotes.

Now tell me, do you think you deserve merit or a rank up for these posts? This is almost your entire post history, and I want to make it clear You should not rank up, at all, unless serious changes to your contributions and posting habits occur.

You even received merit for these two posts (which you should not have) :

...and I think we're bound to look for another signature campaign Smiley
$100 before end of February

Tell me again why you deserve to be ranked up. You shouldn't have even made it to Full Member.

2407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Merit point giveaway for alt coin miners Question to mod of altcoin mining. on: February 19, 2018, 05:08:04 PM
While I agree with you, I also think default merit should be given in a better way...proportionally to days/posts maybe....
this way someone who just got Full member status and me, few days before reaching Senior member, got same starting merit points, so I'm actually slowed down lot more

I do not think the default merit should have been given in a different way. I'm not saying it's perfect, but "days/posts" would not have been a better way of doing things. It is unfortunate for the people that were about to rank up and deserve to be ranked up, but I'm going to be honest with you; most of the people complaining about this exact scenario are people who do not deserve to be ranked up and may never rank up with the current system. This tells me that merit is working exactly as it is intended to.

If you truly are deserving of that rank, you should earn the merit in no time, plus what's the rush? Ranks do not mean much, and won't mean much until the merit system has a chance to settle in and the older high-ranking accounts that don't belong are weeded out.

My main point, slowing you down has done no harm to your forum experience, but it has improved the overall health of the forum by stopping spammers in their tracks (in terms of ranking up).
2408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Merit point giveaway for alt coin miners Question to mod of altcoin mining. on: February 19, 2018, 04:33:11 PM
If threads like this are required, doesn’t that mean that the merit system is kinda broken?

I don’t mean that the merit system is bad, it’s good in the sense that it encourages useleful posts. But the merit sources seems to be a little too strict as to the criteria in which merits are given.

Your thoughts?

No. It does not mean that it is "kinda broken"; it means that it has just been implemented and everyone is figuring out the best way(s) to distribute merit to every section and sub-section of this forum without being too liberal or strict about it. There are 57 merit sources and millions of members; they will not get to you all. There are more sources being added constantly, and specifically in an attempt to target the sub-communities that don't get enough attention or merit.

How does a user giving out merit points in a thread to users that deserve it prove the merit system is broken?

Merit is meant to be hard to achieve, otherwise it would be meaningless.
2409  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to look at in a good Whitepaper when joining ICO on: February 19, 2018, 04:24:30 AM
In my opinion, it is absolutely necessary to roll out a whitepaper, before launch.
I can't imagine why any serious project would not have one. It would be impossible for me to take them seriously if they cannot even give me a run-down on what they're offering.

Otherwise it just seems like a coin that wants money because they believe their name to be clever; plus, how are you to know what the coin is about in any respect without it?
2410  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to look at in a good Whitepaper when joining ICO on: February 19, 2018, 04:08:12 AM
I don't read many ICO whitepapers so I'm going to approach this from a different angle than most. I have read the Bitcoin whitepaper and from what I can derive from that experience I would say critical thinking is your best ally when trying to determine whether or not an ICO has a future. Do not be optimistic or pessimistic, but be realistic about what problems may arise from their project and what is it actually bringing to the table. You will realize quickly that many are not interested in offering a real solution, they are interested in masquerading as innovation in a desperate cash-grab.

Throughout the few recent ICOs I have read I will say that too much of the language is emotions and this is always a bad sign. You want to hear practical, technical solutions to very complex problems; if it sounds oversimplified, be suspicious. As the other user above mentioned, never put too much faith in anything that is a copy of another coin; I say this to imply that any coin with a future is going to serve a unique, and meaningful purpose solving a real-world problem.

Go read the Bitcoin whitepaper, then read all of the questions about scale-ability, real-world application and other solid queries that developers threw at Satoshi from the beginning. Attempt to mimic this scrutiny towards other coins and see where their flaws are, see where their strengths are. If it leaves you with more questions than answers, save yourself the trouble and throw whatever money you were planning to invest into BTC.
2411  Economy / Services / Re: A simple bitcoin Q/A on: February 19, 2018, 12:17:54 AM
I had to read your answer like 15-times, because I just couldn't grasp the wording for some reason. Must've just been reading it wrong, or something. After running it through my head a bunch of times, I've realized that you're correct just using different language than I was expecting. I was mostly looking for something along the lines of "It checks the signatures of the transaction against previous blocks". Sounds like you understand though, so I'll give it to you.

What this means, since I'm running my questions differently is that the next question is simply going to be the other unanswered question.

Question B)

Does Bitcoin have an adaquete solution to the Byzantine Generals problem?
Why not or what is it?

Hint : Don't over complicate  your answer
2412  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: February 18, 2018, 11:55:08 PM

Your first submission has already received merit, and it buried pretty deep in the thread. It reads pretty generic to me, and your second post doesn't read any more interesting, informative or anything like that. Your third submission is the worst offender, 300th+ post in a mega-thread and all of your posts follow a similar theme to this. They don't serve any significant purpose in the discussion, from what I can see.

The first post is already merited pretty well, and it's not something I understand well. Your second post was in response to a direct question and I normally expect OP to merit in these situations. Most of these are the same way, but I'll tell you this, I recently got into mining and I can see you answering one of my questions. If this becomes the case you can expect merit from me when you do. It's definitely helpful, just not the sort of thing I merit generally. The last submission I wanted to merit, but there's something about it that won't allow me to. It's a very interesting read, but I don't generally merit conversations of the manner. I'll be watching your posts and review in the future, because you are very helpful for sure and deserve merit even if it doesn't fit the scope of this thread or what I have going.

I have given your first submission a Merit, because I was having similar thoughts about this. I was thinking that this is going to victimize a lot of people and open the doors for all kinds of identity theft. An open discussion surrounding this would be a good thing, helpful to a lot of people. The second and third submissions seem to be more like general financial/trading advice; they're more an economic conversation and I would expect the person you're speaking towards to be responsible for any merits there. The same goes for the final submission, but I honestly almost gave the final submission another merit, but it seems to be lacking in solutions or proposals on what should be done about the volatility or if this truly will continue to deter businesses from implementing Bitcoin. It was very enjoyable reading your posts though, and I'm going to continue to read your posts moving forward.

Broke local-rule, please no formatting the url tags, it makes it a headache to go through your posts. Feel free to re-submit, though.
2413  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is Escrow for beginners on: February 18, 2018, 10:33:13 PM
Be extremely careful, most sellers in the GPU/Computer hardware section are fake or scams. See philipma's post : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2907919.0

If you are interested in learning more about escrows and how they work you can do so here :
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=133931.0

Within that thread there is also a link to all the active, trusted escrows that everyone on the forum uses when they are serious about a transaction.

Escrow List : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2439910.0

Escrows act as a middle-man, a trusted and unbiased party that only has the interest in making sure the deal goes down without a scam taking place, making sure both parties are satisfied. You can set terms depending on your particular trade, but essentially escrows help ensure security and a smooth trade by holding both parties to their end of the deal.

For example, if you were to use an escrow when you wanted to exchange your BTC to Ethereum with another user, then you would have a few options; User 1 sends their funds to the escrow, once escrow confirms they have the funds the 2nd user sends their funds directly to User 1 and once that transaction can be confirmed the escrow will release funds to the User 2. Something like that.
2414  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ETH was stolen... Is there a chance to find it? on: February 18, 2018, 10:13:24 PM
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but as far as I know there is no enforcement agency that is interested in assisting in this sort of situation. You can hire people that would be independent investigators, involved in computer forensics or security that might be able to assist you. Where there is a will there is a way, so they say; you can in theory track down these coins, but even if you are able to what do you plan to do then?

The glories of these coins if also their downfall when you are in need of 3rd party assistance. I would not expect help from any sanctioned agencies, but there is some hope in hiring people independently.
2415  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: February 18, 2018, 09:55:43 PM
I've organized now so that it is easier when I decide I can go through all of these; I normally spend a lot of time doing each of you. Probably takes me 5-10 minutes per person on average.

This is in a language I do not understand; can not grant you merit.

One of your posts was just suggesting someone check out a particular bounty program; which is really lame if you think that deserves merit. The second submission is just generic trading tips that have been mentioned hundreds, if not thousands of times around here. None of these deserve merit.

Seems like you've already been drowned in merit for your first submission, plus I don't know too much about mining alt-coins. I've just begun mining alt-coins recently, but none of this information was particularly helpful to me if we're being honest. You've also received a good bit of merit for your second submission; one of my criteria is checking whether I believe the post to be under-merited. Your last submission is just asking for people to vote for some mobile app, so I won't be dishing out any merit to your posts here.

Your first submission was the 250th or so reply in a mega-thread, so I didn't even bother reading it and that was a discouraging start. Same thing goes for the second and third replies as well, both deep replies buried in a mega-thread that I didn't even bother to read; one of them was the 5000th+ reply.

Your first submission is just describing how payment structures work for certain signature campaigns, which isn't the sort of thing I'm looking to merit. This information is provided by each individual campaign and doesn't need my merit. Same goes for your second submission; it is just explaining what an ICO is, rather incompletely, and has already received a chunk of merit.
2416  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: February 18, 2018, 07:09:06 PM
I'm flying through these at this point.

I don't know enough about NEO, China or ETH to consider the first post; although it seems like some others have taken notice and given you merit, so that should suffice. Same goes for the second submission, and normally I wouldn't merit a post simply talking about their pick of coin, either. The final post is the 150th+ reply in a mega-thread asking if ETH is a scam. Beating a dead horse, not really bringing any new information to the conversation.

I normally have given you merit each time you submit, but this time I have to unfortunately make an example out of you. This way nobody will think I'm favoring you, because the local-rule is no more than 5-links per submission! Feel free to re-submit after you adjust.

"Write best post" in thread "How to get merit?"; this alone almost makes me not want to read through the rest of your submissions. Your English is very hard to understand, and your second submission is about social media bounties, which are really obnoxious and useless on multiple levels. Listing off BTC Debit card companies is also not worth merit in my estimation. If you were running a reputable BTC debit card service, then this might be meritable. Explaining what a spreadsheet is after a dozen people have already done the same thing in the thread is not worth a merit either. I should have taken my first instinct and stopped reading your submissions after the first one. You simply repeat the answers that others have given, but somehow provide less information than they did.

The first submission is talking about receiving the biggest reward in bounties. This isn't helpful in my opinion, at least not in a way that would be meritable. The second goes with the rule I said earlier, about not meriting posts that are simply news articles re-posted; plus, you submitted twice before I got to you so you also broke a local-rule.
2417  Economy / Goods / Re: I stopped using reddit because it's stupid. So I'm selling my 9 month old accoun on: February 18, 2018, 04:59:16 PM
This is my first time selling on this forum.

How much do such accounts sell for? I read a medium article that said he sold his for $20

Cant I just change the email to the buyer'so?

I'll send the account info first then when everything checks out, I'll hope to receive payment

I wasn't trying to come off harsh; welcome to the forum, and I hope you find what you're looking for here. I'm not into the Reddit scene so my price estimates would not be anything spectacular, but I just googled "Purchase Reddit account" and I was seeing many similar style accounts for about $10.

I am unsure about how the e-mail situation works over there on Reddit, but you would need to research this so that nobody is worried about you maintaining or recovering access to the account to simply sell it again.

It seems that you have good intentions though, you aren't demanding payment first or dodgy escrow terms. The only thing a buyer needs to worry about is that e-mail/recovery process, which I know nothing about.
2418  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: February 18, 2018, 04:33:05 PM
Going through some reviews now and will continue through tonight, probably 3-4 hours until finished. Post your submissions now and I'll go through all of them (even those posted after this) tonight.

You didn't write the first one, you give credits to somebody else and then fail to link to the original article. Copy + Pasting someone's article does not deserve merit, especially when it isn't even bringing new information forward. The other is pointing people towards airdrops/bounties. I'm not giving you a merit for these.

These are all pretty much going to be denied for the same reason; I'm not going to set the precedent that if you basically just Copy + Paste the link to an article about Bitcoin then you receive a merit for it. The articles were interesting enough though, and I did enjoy reading them so thank you for that. If you were the article writer, I'd probably give you a merit.

I already gave you a merit for this thread Tubsie; so I'm going to have to decline. I realize it is another post, but it didn't need to be. Also, you formatted the link with tags in your submission, so you also broke a local-rule.

I've seen dozens of posts like the first submission, talking about what to do before investing in an ICO. I'm going to say, if you have a systematic approach to investing into something that is supposed to be revolutionary, then it's been over-saturated and is probably not operating as originally intended. Plus you already were given 10+ merit for this post. Another is to just identify which Alts to buy, which isn't particularly helpful to me, nor informative.

I am interested in the 01BTC journey, though, I haven't given you a merit at this point. I have watched the thread and I will be following along now and then. If you start hitting some serious mile-stones and sharing your story I will definitely be into that and might throw some merit for the unique situation/journey.

The first post is just your perspective/opinion on what normally occurs whenever change happens, nothing really unique or insightful being brought forward with this information. While you're right, it isn't something I'm interested in meriting at this point. The other post seems to be in the suspected merit abusers list, without adding to the list; this seems to just be a messy post in the thread that wasn't helpful or needed. The last was posting in a bounty/signature thread, nothing of use. Nothing meritable here.
2419  Economy / Services / Re: A simple bitcoin Q/A on: February 18, 2018, 04:22:07 PM
You can choose to answer at least one of my questions; but if you answer multiple questions you will still be considered for merit even if one of your questions was already answered (as to not punish you for working/researching longer). Sometimes there will be a mandatory question and then an additional two-questions for you to choose one to answer for a total of two answers. For now, just choose Question A or B to answer (feel free to answer both).

Question A)

When a node receives a block, what does it check for to verify the validity of transactions within it?
What are these checked against?

Question B)

Does Bitcoin have an adaquete solution to the Byzantine Generals problem?
Why not or what is it?
Question A.
What to check is a stuck transaction / unconfirmed transaction.

Not the answer I was looking for and I'm pretty sure this is not correct. This would be an "outcome" of what is performed, I suppose.  My question(s) still remain unanswered to my satisfaction; feel free to give them a try anyone!

killyou72 is hilarious for just asking their question, but I can see how that could easily be confusing.
2420  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] RX580 1080Ti - Brand new on: February 18, 2018, 04:10:34 PM
You still have provided nothing except empty words. All I've heard so far is that your $100 loan from a Newbie was actually a $1,200 loan, members sent you money and have not received product or refunds (your excuse is CNY, but that does not change facts).

You should not be exclusively accepting Paypal, period, this is the bitcointalk forum, not Paypaltalk. This is my problem, because this is my community.

You have a "right" to propose your items, the same way I have a right to criticize your lack of proof, evidence, reputation, records, your suspicious trust/trading/lending history and your usage of inferior and useless payment systems. I'm asking you questions and pointing out flaws of your business model; you would think this would be a welcome conversation instead of you getting defensive and whiny.

I'm not asking for an expose, I am asking for a single meaningful vouch, feedback or proof of anything (funds, hardware, "sources").

There is a lot to talk about your stock and prices. How much of a fee are you taking?

If you think I'm a hater, for wanting verification, safety and information then you are a pathetic vendor. That's not being a hater, that's being rational and seeing this pattern repeat itself one too many times.

P.S. Don't quote the whole post, quote what you are responding to or it is difficult to read. Also, space your sentences so they're not so hard on the eyes.
