2221  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 21, 2018, 03:51:51 PM
Either I'm being ignored or nobody could see my posts. I have merited the third winner.

I will not merit any of Chipmixer's participants from my source merits, I would have wanted to be accepted and treated like a really trusted man.

in my arrogant and insignificant opinion, what you are doing Joe, is producing more spam. I mean what happens to 3 winners and 22 losers?

I don't think you're being ignored or unseen. I think people are unsure how to respond to you most of the time if we're being honest. I laugh through most of your posts, but then I cringe at other parts of it. I'm interested in hearing more about why you refuse to merit ChipMixer participants from your source merits, potentially in PM so we don't clutter a thread. Just out of curiosity, because we seem to accumulate a good amount of merit even with your refusal; I'm just wondering if there is something worth knowing.

At least you admit your opinion is arrogant. Cheesy
Point out the participants that are producing more spam as a result of this competition.
Are any participants being rewarded to spam?

My apologies for the delayed response; some things IRL have been pulling me away from the forum of late.

Don't worry about it. Real life comes first, if something needs to be handled you handle it. You're still more active then me while being busy, so I wouldn't think much of it or feel the need to apologize.

I agree that an alternate means of collecting entries would make the thread much more readable; but I must ask, do Google Forms require Javascript?  (Or worse, a Google account?)  If so, I may not enter an application.  I don’t know how Google Forms work, since I avoid Google services as much as practicable.

I doubt Joe would do anything to alienate participants knowingly, but I agree that we should do something to optimize applications. I would offer my help in this area, but I'm not sure I can realistically watch this thread enough to handle that sufficiently.

Since I seem to be a bit tardy here, I must thank bill gator for having applied my prize to my same Dev & Tech debut post as Darkstar_ and BossMacko applied my award last week.

The implication being that you wouldn't thank me if you weren't tardy.  Wink
It seemed appropriate for it to be that post.

Many of my posts this week were made in controversy-related threads, and/or dealt with forum abusers.  Those are important in their own right, but of limited interest.

I do my best to avoid the drama. Too much epeen measuring. If something needs my opinion I'll share it, but it seems my viewpoint is normally represented by one party or another. They are of very limited interest, for very limited reasons and the least of which is altruism or benevolence I'm afraid.

Well, I think I’ll need to up my game here. <g>

Turn it up to 11, ole' chap.
2222  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 21, 2018, 02:17:52 PM
Going through all of the posts since the last round as we speak; but I am getting a bit hungry so there may be a short hiccup at some point. There will be consistent progress until I am finished though.

While I don't see anything malicious or necessarily wrong about the posts you've submitted here, there isn't really anything with enough substance or interesting/informative material to warrant a merit. One of the replies is the 200th+ reply and the others are mostly just conversational.

Very nice thread, I have watched the thread and I expect to link to it in the future. I see it has already been merited quite a bit so I will let it stand as it, because I don't exactly see it as "under merited". Although, when I link to it, I will merit it; expect that in the future. Smiley

You almost slipped one by me there, but you've broken a rule by submitting more than 5-posts at one time. Feel free to resubmit and I will be happy to loop back around to you after you've read the rules.

I stopped reading at the first line. I don't like these kinds of threads.
2223  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 20, 2018, 03:58:13 PM
Bill, I hope you don't mind me drive-by commenting in this Sisyphean project/thread that you have created here, but I have a few points up for grabs for low post count members.
I randomly looked at these

I do not mind in the slightest. It's actually quite entertaining when people pop their heads in to give a genuine opinion, review or their own or use my thread as a reference point when they're searching for posts to merit. I encourage more members to do exactly as you've done here. You've even taught me a new word/concept, "Sisyphus"/"Sisyphean". I thought it was an intellectual burn, but I realize it is simply descriptive.

Can I also add... that being post #300 in a thread means that the value of your contribution is very likely going to be close to zero. Roll Eyes
or post #572!!?! Shocked Roll Eyes

In all honesty, your chances of getting any merit for posting in these types of threads is practically nil.

This on the other hand... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3108458.msg32152502#msg32152502

Shows that the poster has actually put some sort of effort in... they've found what is potentially a very useful resource (eBook + assignments + video lectures), and taken the time to share with other users so they can explore and learn. +1 merit from me fxstrike!

I also appreciate what cheefbuza has done here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3127744.msg32344326#msg32344326
Not only found some decent crypto twitter accounts, but actually put some effort into providing some background info and commentary on WHY they consider them to be worthwhile to follow... thats a +1 from me!

You can add whatever you would like. I agree with everything you have said here, and I don't mind you taking over the thread for a minute to give your own opinions, reviews and merits. I've repeated myself a million times within this thread saying exactly some of the things you have and many seem to not understand. Maybe hearing it from another member will allow them to grasp the concept a bit better.
2224  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 19, 2018, 04:47:09 PM
Sorry that I have overlooked your application. You do qualify, so I will be including you in Round 2 results... This also means that we have 25 qualified participants for Round 2, so there WILL be a 3rd place cash prize!

What did I tell you about this emotional roller coaster? I'm finding this extremely amusing that 3rd place was implemented and revoked multiple times during this round.

I have sent nullius their merit, and sent you a PM informing you that I have done so as requested. I'm assuming my funds from last week were enough to cover 2nd place this week, but if not please let me know and I will cover the difference for you, Joe.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this now means that 1st place next week is competing for $50? Round 3 is going to be interesting.
2225  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: (WIP) Community Compiled List of Sites Browser Mining on: March 19, 2018, 03:33:46 PM
Do you also need websites that asks their users to mine voluntarily or just websites that mines without their users knowing?
I know a few websites that ask their users to mine voluntarily as a donation to the website (User can opt-out if they are uncomfortable)

It would be nice if you included these sites, and I could add a separate little section within OP to accommodate for this. These sites would be a good example for the more malicious examples.

thepiratebay.org isn't showing that there's any mining going on.

Also I've tried a bunch of torrenting websites and on these the addons reacted:

I'm pretty positive that TPB has ceased it's mining operations, because there was too many pissed off users. That doesn't mean we should let them off the hook in terms of having this discussion or figuring out an ethical implementation of this sort of thing. Thanks for your sites, they will be added to OP.
2226  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 19, 2018, 03:29:36 PM
Very surprised that I needed all of my "Reserved" posts. I got a little bit lost, but it looks like we're getting everything back under control. Finishing today, I swear; although, genuine responses where people are making proposals or just making a comment are getting priority at this point. They are going to be the lifeblood of this service very soon, because I am not a merit source and I am running low.

You broke a formatting rule with the way your links are tagged. Please, read the rules and resubmit your posts when you fully understand them.
2227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: a lot of FUD, here is some good news on: March 18, 2018, 03:47:58 PM
Recently, many accounts are posting a lot of negative news, here is some good news:

If you can't deal 30% losses, You don't deserve 800% profits

I'm unsure how this article is good news for Bitcoin, but I like the enthusiasm. There is way too much negativity and it seems like Bitcoin can resurrect from the dead and nobody will believe in it. The HODL people are having a good laugh at the mad scramble of everyone. Bitcoin skyrockets and then has a minor retraction and everyone believes it is the end of the world. People still don't know the difference between a stock and Bitcoin I'm afraid.

You can list 50 articles with good news and only 1 article with bad news and the price will still go down. In a speculative market, investors are just looking at the bad news and they always have their finger on the trigger to sell.

That's because we (humans) are more worried about negative emotion than positive emotion. When somebody has positive emotion towards you, the farthest it can go is love, but when someone has an extreme of negative emotion towards you they can kill you. We're just more evolved to react to negativity to a greater extent.
2228  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [Question] Bitcoin Quilts would you buy one? on: March 18, 2018, 03:03:19 PM
The one that is being worked on ... would on average go for about $1000.

I should be getting updated pictures soon and can show the detail that goes into them.

If anyone is interested in something unique and custom the price can be negotiated for a custom project.  I know the group did a baby quilt recently that was around $400 and was 40x40.

It might not work but was worth a shot. Worst case I end up with a 60x60 quilt for myself Tongue

$1,000 sounds wild to me, but maybe I just lack the appreciation needed for this kind of thing. I've never really considered how long it takes to make a handmade quilt, but if they really last forever and the final product is looking good then it's probably worth it.

I might be interested in a "baby quilt" if I can find a custom design that I'm really into spending that kind of money on. Your worst case scenario really doesn't sound that bad to me. I'm really looking forward to seeing the updated pictures, because that could change everything.
2229  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: March 18, 2018, 02:21:26 PM
So everyone that is enrolled to this campaign is honored and everyone else that isn't is not. Really?

I do not know why you are no longer a part of the ChipMixer campaign, but that is no reason to take a compliment to our participants as a personal slight.
Your new vividcoin campaign seems to have some participants that need no badge of honor, other than their name; minerjones, TMAN and others like them.

Where have I suggested that others are unable, incapable or currently not admirable/honorable? I do not understand the motivation to put words in my mouth or create a problem where there isn't one. When a woman wins Miss Universe, does that mean every other woman in the world is ugly? If a serviceman receives a Badge of Honor are the rest of the soldiers not honorable? I never once said or even came close to implying that this campaign is the only measure of honor on this forum. Your question and reasoning is deluded and seemingly malicious for you to have asked me this question.

Plus, why do you give a shit what I think anyways?  Kiss
2230  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: (WIP) Community Compiled List of Sites Browser Mining on: March 18, 2018, 01:54:41 PM
Can you show me a website currently using this method
In your post you referer about a site for a news article for Bitcoin, you are talking about a small to medium blog, right?

And secondly, aren't the antivirus blocking or flagging these websites?

I have updated OP with Spazzer's list they have begun to compile. The most notable site being thepiratebay. I cannot remember the name of the news site, but it was one of the first when I was searching about Lightning or Segwit (Can't remember which, was researching both that night). It was so bad, that I could not read the article on their site; I had to Copy+Paste the article into a word document and close the web-page, because my computer was lagging/fans were speeding up.

Most people I know do not run antivirus software, but yes I believe some companies are flagging some sites.

What to do with a decent sized list...

Browser add-on that warns users the website they're visiting mines?

Witch hunt!  Shocked

I don't know exactly, but Spazzer has a thread suggesting ways to block these scripts : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3123275.0
We can possibly contact the site owners or developers for discussion about their use/abuse of browser mining. We can avoid the sites, we can create better scripts to block their miners; the list goes on and on and other people may have a better use for this than I do.
2231  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: March 18, 2018, 01:41:39 PM
Week 6 (for me) payment received and confirmed. Thanks DarkStar_ and thanks ChipMixer. Other participants remain to be some of the only people that actually have genuine discussions with me. It certainly is a badge of honor as Joe has suggested. I'm falling down the ranks in terms of our merit, but I'm happy for that to be the case; you guys are deserving of it.

actmyname was a good choice, welcome to the crew.  Cheesy
2232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: #HODLGANG and #CRAEFULGANG -- John Oliver on Cryptos on: March 17, 2018, 11:34:41 PM
I bet he was planning that originally and that's where HBO drew the line lol. I remember the televangelist episode and he launched his own church! And debt buying company. So why not a token???  Really looking forward to more shows making informative pieces on crypto.

I think he was going to create his own coin until he stumbled upon Doge Coin, which would've been all he could've dreamed his coin to be. I was dying at "Hodl gang, Hodl gang, Hodl gang!" I have a simple sense of humor, but the way it was presented was without unnecessary critique or propaganda; it seemed he was genuinely interested in educating the public, while making a few light hearted jokes. This is perfectly acceptable in my book, and probably had a lot of people looking further into it after the show.
2233  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 17, 2018, 09:33:44 PM
I will be updating this thread in a few hours. Just coming back from a long week of work.

But for now, I’d like to adhere to the rules and disallow a cash prize for 3rd place, as the conditions were not met. I think this will also provide some sort of incentive for more people to join this challenge for future rounds.

I’ll update the spreadsheet and sponsors in a few hours.

I bet there are at least a few of our participants that are thinking this is quite the emotional roller coaster. First there's a third place cash prize, the 25th participants gets disqualified so that prize is inactive, then pugman offers to run a 3rd place cash prize and it gets shot down. I would hate to keep our participants in suspense, but maybe pugman could just send the $5 to the escrow address for future rounds.
2234  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: kii552007_alt Computer Hardware Scammer on: March 17, 2018, 08:47:34 PM
Local police are useless but I did posted on alpha crc Facebook about their employee. Maybe you can get at least some justice for Cliff ruining you.

I wouldn't say they are completely useless. A lot of the time they can forward their reports or information to another agency with further reaching jurisdiction. Meaning, if local police are unable to handle it they have a direct pipeline to those who do handle these things. However, if they don't deem it worthy of contacting the other agencies then it is pretty worthless. Also, if it doesn't violate any "international" laws and only local laws, but there is no connection between your locality and theirs it might be difficult to have anything come of it. It seems a shame that their partner is just taking the fall for all of this financially.

Pawn here. Hopefully this never happens to anyone else here

I do not know what happens on the buyer side in this scenario.

I feel sympathy for your situation. It's very unfortunate, and all I can say is that you should try to do everything you can to hold onto your money legally. Paypal should be able to handle this within their own house without draining your bank account. I don't know how this would be done, but it just feels wrong for you to become fooled and then take a loss for all of his scams.
2235  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Browser Mining Problems on: March 17, 2018, 08:34:54 PM
Good initiative bill! Well maybe Spazzer is just busy and still needs enough of time to start his own thread for that list that I have mentioned.

I think it will be good if two of you start working together for that list. That will be one of the best compilation about what are the websites that are mining with our browsers.

Hmmm I've seen identical website for this thread. https://fossbytes.com/block-cryptocurrency-mining-in-browser/

That website doesn't look too similar to the thread, just suggests similar extensions. I wouldn't think too much of it, unless you can notice a part plagiarized in a blatant way. It seems they are a bit of a busy person, but they're into the idea and reserved a post in the thread I made. It looks like a good sign, and if anybody else would like to contribute; feel free.

I will contribute to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3130937 thread that bill gator created once I have a larger list.

Looking forward to you contributing, and even if you don't have an impressive list built I would love to even have you throw up a couple of sites. If you only have one or two to contribute, that's fine, we can build it one site at a time from one user at a time if need be. Whenever you get a chance though and however you feel comfortable doing it is no problem with me. Thanks for hopping on board and reserving your seat.
2236  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 17, 2018, 07:43:43 PM
Temporarily locking the thread while I review posts (unless I can't edit while locked) to see if I will have enough merit to keep this going. I am running very low again, so we will either go on a temporary shutdown, or I will begin my "to-merit" list, which I am surprised I haven't had to start up until now. There are a few members that volunteered, like monbux, to throw their merit so we'll see how it goes. Expect reviews of all posts to be done within the next 2-hours or so.
2237  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 17, 2018, 04:55:51 PM
Yes, indeed the merit amount for 2nd place looked a bit off to me too.

It would be nice if you guys with the review services could be merit sources, it would be definitely easier to distribute them to quality & helpful posts.

First place gets 8 merit, second place gets 1 merit, third place gets 2 merit. That doesn't sit right with me, so as long as I can possibly manage it I will make sure second place doesn't get the least amount of merit. Merit sources are few an far between, but we have a couple in this very thread.

Joe,I don't people to ruin their hopes,so I don't mind paying 5$ for the 3rd prize, either from the existing BTC I sent or I'll send 5$ worth of BTC over to the person who secures this week's 3rd prize, for one time only. Your call.

You're the man, but try not to one-up me too badly. So that means that there is going to be a 3rd place, not really sure why, but that excites me in an amusing way. One time only should be enough, because next round I will probably be beginning my Sisyphean (Did I use that word right?) sponsorship of 2nd and 3rd place.

I am a source (which is partially why I can give 8 merits a week). Too bad Merit Source applications aren't being processed by theymos right now.

There was just recently 20 new sources created recently. I'm not sure how they're deciding when or which applications to go through, but it seems like they're not completely forgotten. They are just not doing it consistently, maybe in rounds, chunks or groups when they feel more merit is needed. Kind of like a recipe, you can always add more, but you can't take any out. I plan to apply as a merit source down the road, but I figure I should let the pipeline clear up a bit before doing so.
2238  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [Question] Bitcoin Quilts would you buy one? on: March 17, 2018, 01:32:40 PM
I would be extremely interested in purchasing a quilt, but after reading through the thread it sounds like it might be absurdly expensive. I'm not sure if you're saying that your quilts would be somewhere around $500+, but that is quite a bit for a Bitcoin blanket. Not trying to take anything away from it, because I'm sure there would be  someone willing to buy it at auction, especially if it is a limited edition collectible that has a lot of time and work put into it.

What sort of prices are you thinking the final product will fetch? The design looks really simple, which isn't a bad thing, but it's not going to really take anyone's breath away.
2239  Other / Meta / Re: Report Sufficiently Answered Topic(s) to Lock on: March 17, 2018, 05:58:06 AM
Since we already have serious discussion. ... I think we should give Newbie their board to ask away, whatever they want, as many times as they like.

It's funny that you say "Since we already have" as if these boards were not created as a reaction to the endless sea of spam in the boards we already enjoy visiting that make it impossible to use it as intended.

We should not allow Newbies to do anything and everything they wish to any board, as many times as they'd like. This is called abuse and you become what you practice. If the newbie section is not for informing users, among other things, but especially how they are expected to act around the forum and how to find information already available then I have no clue what it is for. It certainly is not an off-topic for low ranking members, like you seem to think.

If you think fighting spam is good

Do you think fighting spam is bad?
I'm confused why that would even be a caveat to whatever you plan to say next.

probably you need to police another board, policing Beginners & Help which specifically created for Newbie to ask away is not wise thing to do, its like trying to police kindergarten kid to follow adult rules.

Again, you're wrong. Newbies become veterans by becoming informed. They become informed through us showing them the door and them choosing whether or not to go through it. I wasn't only speaking of that board anyways, so I don't know why you're so hung up on that. I am speaking more broadly than that section, but that section should not be an exception. If you do not try to get the kindergarten kids to follow any rules, then they become adult kindergartners that cannot follow rules. You grow into what you practice, not out of or away from it. Continue to act a certain way, and you will soon not know how else to act.

Reporting Newbie behavior in their own board will just open another opportunity to others to open spamming topic that pollute this Meta board
I believe soon after Meta will be filled with this unnecessary spamming report topics

I disagree, again. Removing spam and locking topics that are being abused will not cause more spamming. That is nonsense and you know it. Wherever they do this, it should be enforced and if it is enforced well there will be a net reduction in the amount of spam around the forum in general and within each board individually as well.

There is no reason to allow opening thread by newbie. Maybe only in help and beginner section, where they can ask for any help or answer to his question.
They need first to read and learn. It will be easy to boost his rank if they understand this forum.

I don't know if I'm able to agree that there is "no" reason to allow them to open threads. I can definitely agree that it does more harm than good allowing them to open threads though, and it is very very rare that a newbie starts a thread that is beneficial to the community in any way. There should be some kind of restrictions in place to reduce the amount of spam that they're able to dish out.

One of the first things that drove me nuts about bitcointalk was that 1) Duplicate answers would be given in a thread, because 2) No one reads replies past the first one or two in a thread.

I don't think the mods care much about locking threads.  More traffic, more profit for bitcointalk.

That's what drives us all nuts, it gets the best of us. It makes it look like we're mindless zombies just beating dead horses. Maybe the mods collectively don't "care" about locking the thread, I won't attempt to claim to know why they are unable or unwilling to do so. It might be as you prescribe, or it could simply be the lack of resources to handle such a thing. I'd imagine that your egregious example should have been locked at this point if they were interested in handling this in any capacity.

Do posts = Traffic? Are lurkers not as valuable to the forum in terms of "profit"? Does the forum actually benefit financially from spam, or mega-threads developing/remaining open? I would like to hear some more on that.
2240  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling Coffee Mug featuring 230 crypto logos on: March 17, 2018, 05:41:12 AM
Have you considered doing a more simple mug? I would be very interested in purchasing a mug with fewer currency logos on it, while potentially still keeping a bunch on there; there are just too many cryptos to count and these 230 are probably more or less arbitrary. It would be more interesting to me if there were a few key players featured on the mug, the top dogs with the most technological innovation being brought to the table.

I almost just checked-out, but then I was thinking that I will give your other products more of a look before I go impulse purchase something I don't really love. The black logo definitely looks better to me, but maybe if we could get it down to maybe 12 currencies and have the logos different sizes depending on their market cap or something.
