2261  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Maximum activity points per day? on: March 15, 2018, 05:39:31 PM
There is a recent thread about the FAQ regarding merit and how it is accumulated, you can check it out here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2766177.0

As another user has mentioned, the maximum activity you can get in a single day is 14, (maybe 28?), but you can only accumulate 14 every 2-weeks. Which turns out to be 1 per day, effectively. If you somehow post 14 times on the day it resets, before it resets, and post 14-times that same day after it resets then you can get 28-activity on that day if I'm not mistaken.
2262  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 15, 2018, 05:20:12 PM
@fakegurutu has been disqualified from this week's round, as they have applied to a paid signature campaign after applying for this challenge.

This means that there are only 24 valid participants in this round. Unfortunately, this also means that there will not be a cash prize for 3rd place. Sad

In other news, I will be tracking merits earned from participants through this challenge, and you can find a "Merit Stats" tab in the spreadsheet (click here to be taken directly to the merit tab in the spreadsheet)

Hopefully, we can have at least 25 qualified participants for this challenge in Round 3. Sorry, everyone Sad

Awh, fakegurutu why did you have to go and ruin it for everyone? Rules are rules though, and I would hate to make an exception just because someone broke the rules. I like the merit stats google spreadsheet, gives us a better ability to see what sort of post quality our participants are operating with. I'm sure round 3 will have enough participants for a 3rd place.

I have decided to add a section to the spreadsheet that will reference up to 5 meritorious posts that I see throughout the week. This will be added at some point before the current round is concluded.
I can donate 5 merits/week to the top poster as well. Let me know!

I believe by round 5, I’d like to slightly reduce the amount of merits that the top ranks can earn for each round and encourage more members to utilize the spreadsheet to merit a few posts that are deemed meritorious

Monbux is the man, they even popped into my sMerit review thread and offered their merit services there as well. It seems they know where merit is being used properly and are a positive proponent. Putting up meritorious posts is a really good idea, for multiple reasons. We can use this to distribute merit to the participants, review the post quality of the better participants and to give struggling users a reference for what constitutes a proper post. It might be nice to have 5-Slots that are Cash + Merit and 5-slots that are just merit or something like that if you're looking to spread the love around to those participants making an effort.
2263  Economy / Service Discussion / (WIP) Community Compiled List of Sites Browser Mining on: March 15, 2018, 03:37:47 PM
This has been something that has bothered me for awhile and I can't find anything that resembles what I'm attempting to do in this thread. Browser Mining is something that can be helpful, innovative and unobtrusive when used in the right way. It is too often that I bump into a site looking to read a news article for Bitcoin, stream a show or play a browser game and my computer seems to be running more intensely than it should. I feel that too many sites are abusing Browser Mining, or at least uninformed as to what would be deemed acceptable by their users; for this reason I am interested in compiling a list of the sites that use Browser Mining and creating comments, discussion or consensus about their usage of it. This way we can gather some acceptable and unacceptable examples to reference and use as starting points for other endeavors.

Now, I do not have a list, so this is where the community comes in. I am simply willing to maintain this list and extremely interested in the findings of it. I would like suggestions for how to go about investigation, verification of accusations and formatting of this thread. Please, chip in helpfully where you are able to do so. The idea for this thread was provoked from : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3123275.0 and too many situations in which I am retroactively feeling as though there was mining taking place without being informed/consenting.

2264  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Browser Mining Problems on: March 15, 2018, 03:10:11 PM
Good suggestion.

Thanks, but it will become more than a suggestion if OP doesn't end up making a thread about it. I would happily start the thread and maintain an OP of suggested sites that are accused of doing so. I am unaware of how to search these sites down, unless these add-ons/extensions let you know when it was attempted and I'm clueless. I'm open to ideas on how to verify accusations; It'll get started today, because I really like the idea.

I know that browser mining, at least with the software that Coinhive came up with, was a way to find alternative revenue and I actually believe that it can be very useful for businesses like newspapers or online news portals. I was part of a newspaper daily that had to shut down because people simply preferred reading online than buying the paper. I keep seeing ads and requests to allow ads on some of my favourite news sites, they'd do well to install something like Coinhive. That would probably be the ONLY way I'd ever let a miner run in my browser.

It is a pretty interesting alternative to intrusive ads. I would be perfectly happy with offering up a small slice of my CPU as an alternative to ads, as long as there are restrictions on what they're allowed to do and some sort of regulations of informing your users. A small note at the top of the page, maybe a 5%-10% limitation on my CPU usage or something reasonable.

It's definitely not a conspiracy... there are just too many users out there who don't even know their computers are being hijacked. I've suspected a few streaming sites for sure, but yeah, if a list of them came up, might do a bit more to shame these guys into uninstalling their scripts.

Hindsight is 20/20 for most people, and for others ignorance is bliss on all accounts. Streaming sites have been suspect as well for me. I'm going to start that list myself in a few if OP isn't interested in doing so themselves. Even if it doesn't shame them into uninstalling, maybe it'll at least force some transparency and discussion for this kind of thing.
2265  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How To Start Signature Campaign? on: March 15, 2018, 03:26:03 AM
It is actually interesting to me that Joe didn't use this as a chance for shameless self-promotion, or maybe he doesn't feel as though you would stand a chance in his challenge. Joe runs a challenge which offers the opportunity to earn BTC or $ without having to join a signature campaign. This would give you a chance to actually use the forums as intended, just having regular conversations about things that genuinely interest you and still benefit from it in multiple ways to varying degrees, but certainly more so than simply joining a campaign to spam for.

Read more about Joe's challenge here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3055616.0 , I sponsor a few slots so that more participants can get something out of their efforts, time and to show that we support regular users of the forum. This would be my suggestion for learning about how the forums work, what is expected and what you are up against in terms of thought-processes, post-quality and nuanced thinking.

I was just about to go through your post history and I see you've already applied for Joe's challenge, but if you plan to actually have a chance at winning your posts are going to have to be made of more than "Thank you"s and questions. There is nothing wrong with courtesy and inquiry, but there is a search function where most of your questions can be answered. I would try to contribute the knowledge you already do have more so, and utilize the search engine to a degree that most of your posts won't simply be questions that could've been answered without further input from other users. If you have any more questions that you can't seem to find the answer to, do not hesitate to ask, because I would hate to discourage the pursuit of knowledge; but feel free to PM me the questions first, or another prominent member. People are very helpful around here, but some people get grumpy after answering the same threads/posts dozens of times.
2266  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Purchased 7 gtx 1070’s from Goldminer666 on: March 15, 2018, 03:06:11 AM
Another scammer. I think a lot of these people are using throw away accounts that way even if the account goes negative after a claim, they’ve already got the money. Unfortunately for this guy PayPal was holding the funds for 21 days. He kept lying saying the cards were shipped trying to buy time cuz he thought the funds would release after 24 hours. Once he realized that wasn’t the case he ended up refunding without a word. Needless to say, I would stay away from anything this guy tried to sell.

I came to this thread specifically to wish you well, hoping that this transaction was going to go better than the last Scam accusation thread I began and you had to share your story in. It seems a lot of these scammers are pretty clueless as far as their schemes go. They don't think through hold times, reverse searching the pictures they've sent as "proof" or any sort of simple investigations and obstacles that will only make their attempt waste everyone's time. At least you're 2/2 on getting your money back from scammers after they've had it in their hands from what I can tell, that's pretty impressive in itself.

At this point, I'd probably lock the thread, or move it to reputation/scam accusations as that would be where this thread can develop further.  You didn't get your goods, you got your money back and they've proven to send you fake proofs. No more can be said about this in Computer Hardware.
2267  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Browser Mining Problems on: March 15, 2018, 02:34:51 AM
I will start keeping a list of sites that I come across. Most of them as of recent have been cryptocurrency news sites or aggregators.

I would suggest starting a new thread specifically to point out which sites you comes across that run miners, and especially call out those that do so without the permission or even informing their users. People used to think that this was some kind of conspiracy I had in my head, because nobody thought these news sites, game sites and others would essentially perform the same tasks as a virus (temporarily). Then ESEA got caught running miners and the landscape and attitude about this changed entirely. It seems almost every time I show up to read recent news articles relating to Bitcoin that my CPU, GPU and system fans begin to pick up speed and my machine begins to stutter. This practice is utterly pitiful, pathetic and I would suspect it only provides minimal gain for these sites. I never knew there were trusted extensions to keep these miners out of my hair, thanks for the list and I'm looking forward to participating in your other thread about which sites do such a thing.
2268  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens at your Altcoin Or Bitcoin Investment after Death? on: March 15, 2018, 02:04:41 AM
There are multiple options for you to consider if this is something you are concerned about. If you copy + paste the title of your thread into the search bar you will come up with some good threads about exactly what you're asking. There are tons of creative and secure ideas that are suggested throughout a few different topics discussing this.

You can do more reading here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2208880.0
and here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1587610.0

It primarily comes down to preference, location, relationship to the beneficiary and what is available in terms of resources to the original owner. I would throw you some examples, but I would just be repeating things already mentioned in both of these threads. If you have not read both of these threads (and potentially more), then I would suggest locking this thread and doing so until you have a better grasp on the information already available on this topic. You have already received incorrect statements in this thread about this, there are lawyers that will assist you with this, because Bitcoin is not contraband nor is it illegal (depending where you are from).

I see you're pretty new, so if locking/unlocking a topic is not something you are familiar with then you can read more about that here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2841800.0
2269  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why does not the rank of Jr.Member change on Member? on: March 15, 2018, 01:33:41 AM
move topic  |  remove topic  |  unlock topic  |  set topic sticky  |  merge topics

There's that option below the topic.

Bottom Left hand side of the thread you will see the option to Lock/Unlock your thread. This is appropriate once you've received an answer to your question to avoid the same information from being posted multiple times or spammers to take advantage of your thread.

If you're having trouble finding this there is a nice thread here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2841800.0 , which was made to explain this for people that just stop paying attention to their threads once they've gotten their answer.
2270  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 15, 2018, 12:58:44 AM
In total, we have 25 participants for this round, which means that there will be a CASH PRIZE for 3rd place, as well (sponsored by @bill gator)!

Looks like I'm really on the hook for it now. I've sent you $10 towards this round in the last transaction to the escrow address; this should cover the 2nd place prize unless some rough price fluctuations take place. Let me know if I need to top off or send a bit more, because this was not something I had considered. Regardless, I will be sending the 3rd place prize directly, so I will be watching this thread and my PMs to know who that is. You made a good choice with Blue Tyrant, very impressed with the post quality of this week's participants. I can enjoy following you guys around and that was something I was expecting to frustrate me.

This is fine, but I'm also currently having trouble sending to Bravo Charlie addresses, as well. The wallet that I'm using for escrow only allows for Nested P2SH transactions. @Blue Tyrant, can I send your winnings to the legacy SW address you have in your signature, or can you provide me with another Legacy SW address to send your winnings to? I'll try and figure out the escrow situation in the future :X

A bit of a logistical hiccup. The good ole' Bravo Charlie addresses may be the future, but man they are not making an easy time of it. I'm in the same boat as nullius in that I attempted to use it, had too many problems such as this and bailed for a 3 Segwit Address, for now.
2271  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: exchange ETH to BTC on: March 14, 2018, 04:09:04 PM
I actually exchange ETH to BTC for users around here if you are interested in using my service. There are a lot of people that warn against using exchanges and if you are somebody that prefers to be cautious I can handle this for you with minimal fee.

My topic can be found here with some more information : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2954744

I am willing to do whatever makes you feel secure and I'm very negotiable on the fees.
2272  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 14, 2018, 01:56:13 PM
I think it's funny that Joe had the same problem I was having. I probably could've just asked Blue Tyrant for an address myself and we could've saved almost $1 in fees. Ah well, I'm sure we'll all get over it and be able to learn something moving forward. Good to see Joe got the funds sent over to you, I have sent next week's 2nd place prize to the escrow address, but I probably should've sent my 3rd place prize with it as well. Nonetheless, I'm having a good time reading through the posts of the winners and I've given Blue Tyrant +1 Merit as well.
2273  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 13, 2018, 11:32:39 PM
Doing a bit of pre-formating, and pre-screening. This way I'll be able to delete the nonsense spam comments, reply to those with a genuine post, review submissions and get this moving in an orderly fashion. This also gives you guys the chance to check back on the post with your submissions in it, so that you're able to know where it will be reviewed. I will try to do this in real time from now on, that way people know where to check to see if they've been reviewed. It will make following one of the rules easier, for sure.
2274  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 13, 2018, 08:04:26 PM
Hey Bill...

Firstly, Forgive the intrusion... but Apparently I have some "spare" sMerit... However, I'm not really finding many posts worthy except for usual suspects like DannyH, achow101, nullius etc. Having said that, I do have a relatively limited subset of boards that I tend to follow.

I was thinking of starting a thread similar to yours... but then figured there was no point "doubling up"... and decided it would probably just be counter-productive and lead to "merit review spamming" from the lower ranks looking for extra merit. Call me cynical Tongue

Anyway, I'd like to help out... so if you find some worthy posts but have run out of sMerit, drop me a PM with the candidates you think deserve some (extra?) merit and I'll see what I can do Wink

Note to everyone else: DO NOT PM me looking for merit... anyone who does so will NEVER receive merit from me... EVER! If you think your post is worthy, post it here according to Bill's rules!

I do not see this as an intrusion whatsoever. I actually greatly appreciate it, because there are a couple of users like yourself that are high ranking with a lot of merit that have offered to help it where they can. This is going to be extremely useful from now on, because I'm thinking of utilizing you guys very soon. I'm just about out of merit, so you, philipma1957 and monbux (am I forgetting someone?) can expect PMs from me soon about posts I believe deserve a merit. Thank you very much.
2275  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 13, 2018, 03:17:49 PM
I am going through these now, but I have something that might interrupt; regardless I will be going through these throughout today.

You've broken the rules by submitting multiple times before I got to review your original submission, therefore I am not even looking at any of the posts you've submitted. Feel free to resubmit after you've read the rules.

These are all formatted incorrectly and therefore I don't know which posts you're trying to direct me at. Feel free to resubmit after you understand the formatting rules.

You've broken formatting rules so I won't be going through your posts. I appreciate the suggestions, but please if you're posting a link make sure it is the ONLY thing on that line. All the extra text and tags just give me a headache and take extra time to go through that I don't have to spare.

You have also broken a link formatting rule, but feel free to resubmit your posts after you read the rules.

You've broken the rules by submitting multiple times before I got to review your original submission

This entire post was all people breaking the rules, c'mon guys.
2276  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 13, 2018, 01:43:01 PM
I tried sending the $10 directly to Blue Tyrant's address, but for some reason my client doesn't like the bc1 addresses. Since I was unable to send the funds directly I have sent a little more than $20 to the escrow address for this challenge. That way Joe can dish out the funds for me, and next weeks sponsor money is already in the escrow address. I apologize for being about a day late here, but I've been very busy lately.

2277  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: March 13, 2018, 01:26:26 PM
Taking a short break, might be an hour or two, something like that. When I get back, I will finish going through Pages 9 & 10 to finish off everyone's submissions currently in the queue. I was thinking I would run out of merit by the end of this round, but I guess the ratio of Merit:Terrible is way out of whack.
2278  Economy / Services / Re: [1 SLOT OPEN] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: March 11, 2018, 05:21:47 AM
I am no longer close to keeping up with LoyceV, so I will take my humble bow to his meritorious superiority. It is fitting though, because they are way more helpful and active. Week 5 Payment has been received and already has a confirmation. Thanks for running a tight ship, good luck to the applicants.
2279  Other / Meta / Re: Hacked Accounts! WTF is going on? on: March 10, 2018, 03:01:49 PM
I'm giving this thread a bump, because I believe it is a case worth looking into. I've been in regular contact and conversation with pugman for a few weeks now. I would like to see this issue resolved, however OP you will need to post proof that you are the owner of the account. You have done a good job, as far as I can tell, at no longer following them around the forum to harass them and moving this thread to the proper board. Now, your next step in this long unfortunate process is posting proof of ownership.
Are you able to do that?

I meant shipping on the house... sorry about that!  I probably should have phrased it differently. <3

Let me know if that is still generous enough to take me up on the offer:  1GztSRhuQr8jFhfhAUYRXBVbmEDLSkgs9U

Be sure to PM me your shipping after $15 payment!

No harm no foul, I guess you hear/read what you want to. I saw free and I took it all the way home, that is my mistake. I was very confused as to what would make you send such a thing for free, but that was an absurd assumption for me to have made. I am for sure interested, and I'll probably get the $15 send over to you tonight. I'm in an out of the house today, but when I get a chance I will send it through. It is still very generous to cover the shipping cost, when I'm sure your margins are razor thin as it is.
