It doesn't really make sense to spend time on that now. Most people stopped CPU mining a long time ago. Some miners have started selling their GPUs to switch to ASIC mining.

I think there's a miner called cpuminer that you could try.

Using CPU today is pointless. the difficulty is way to high for some tiny hashrate (but high powerusage) equipment.

Hey, Guys!  Just started mining with BitMinter the last few weeks.  Have it running on a Windows 7 machine with an ATI 5850 and just today installed it on a Linux CentOS 6.4 machine with an ATI 5830 (though it took some trial-and-error to find the right combination of software needed on the box to get to the point of mining).

Question about the Linux install: Is there a way to kickoff a lightweight version of the BitMinter client from the command prompt WITHOUT needing to start up X/Gnome/etc.?  I'd rather just kick it off from a console-only environment.

Making a command line version is far down on my TODO list. I don't think we'll see it soon.

You can run the GUI on a remote desktop though. Assuming you have DISPLAY set to open on a VNC desktop or similar, you could start the miner from command line like so:

I was connected to Bitminter for a few hours last night, and again had the same fluctuation in rates that I commented on earlier in this thread. If I look at the live stats page, my mhs jumps up and down with every refresh, and in the worker stats, it looks like this:



All the while, my cards both report steady hash rates of 500-520 each (two card rig used for the test). Didn't see anything in console, strangely (GUIminer, Win7, latest ATI beta drivers). No network traffic speed problems.

The drops in hash rate (for my worker) seem to occur during the night the times i've seen it.

Any ideas?

Sounds like everything is fine. There will always be some variation in how many proofs of work you find in an hour due to the lottery like nature of mining.

Earlier it sounded like you had a hashrate drop on the client side due to not getting enough work from the server. That would be a concern.

But steady hash rate on the client, low reject ratio, accepted work keeps ticking up, that means it's running fine.

The real hashrate is the one shown on your client. The website is just trying to guess your hashrate based on how many proofs of work you send in. That is going to vary as your luck varies.

I just wanted to say how impressed I am with your miner and your web page.   You are a diamond in the rough among the pools out there.    I think you are doing a service to bitcoin by making it so easy to mine, although your motivation is probably less altruistic the more people that are mining and selling and buying the stronger the coin will get imo.   From what I've seen of the different pools websites I rate yours the highest for interesting information and ease of use.

Further to my last another machine

Geforce 7600 GS this is also not picking up the gpu.
I know these are old and produce very little but when you have lots of them and they are on anyway...
Running on XP with up2date drivers.

Any chance of it working ?

As far as I know the 2600 doesn't have OpenCL support.  My late 2007 iMac has the same GPU and it's not supported.  I think, (not 100%) that the 4870 was the first OpenCL compat. GPU in the MacPro.  Look for a cheap GPU upgrade on eBay for that machine.
I put a 5870 in my 2008 MacPro, you can find them on eBay for a reasonable price.. Also as of 10.8.3 6xxx and 7xxx cards work with the proper power connectors.

I've noticed this as well.  It appears that if you don't have your miner running 24/7 you will not get a good rate of return from Bitminter.  If I am reading it correctly it adds up 10 shifts that are each about 46 minutes long and then gives you a percentage based on your average through those 10 shifts soooo, you have to mine for around 8  hours straight with no interruptions before you are maxing out your earnings.  I'm curious who benefits from the slack?  I game with this pc besides mining about 4/5's of the day so it looks like I am going to have to pass on bitminter and his great software and layout.

The major upside from this is that the pool is 100% hopper safe and we don't have to worry about any body hopping in just before the block is solved. As a gamer I still use bitminter for two reasons:

1. The miners simplicity and efficiency are unrivaled. Seriously, nothing comes close.
2. The high risk, high gain has benefited me very well over the past year leaving me, on average, with higher profit over time.


For a third reason, Dr. Haribo, the owner and operator, is simply the best. He is constantly working towards a better Bitminter for us and charger nothing in return. Over the past year I've watched this pool grow and because of Dr. Haribo's willingness to listen to users and his skill, the pool has simply become the best out there for most miners.


With all of that said, if you can only mine for a few hours a day then a PPS pool might be better for short term profits.

I think his Hash rate has increased enough over the past few weeks to warrant a shorter number of shifts on the average.  Slush's pool offers about double the reward for me when I have some my cards turned off for part of the day based on my experiment from last night.   I just wish Slush hadn't done away with merged mining.

I was thinking about this over dinner.  How does pool hopping hurt anyone?  if it takes 1,000,000 shares to get a block and someone jumps in at the end and contributes 25 shares before the block is found and they are rewarded based on 25/1,000,000.  What is the problem with this and why do such drastic measures need to be taken to prevent it?

Ok so i just started mining with Bit Minter about 12hrs ago.  I can from Mt. Red and before that Bitclockers (prior to DDoS).  My hash rate is about 4000 Mh/s.  I am seeing very low payouts with this pool, as i would expect with its payout system.  I have been mining for a year and a half, and was wondering as a 24/7 dedicated miner, if this pool is wiorth my while?  Will my pay outs increase to about 0.2 BTC per day or more in time, as this was my average payout in other pools.  I have to SC ASIC's miners on the way (hopefully) and would like to know if i shoud stay or go based on my current hash rate?

That is the problem, i am mining 24/7. I was thinking after few days, reward will come to normal value but it didnt. I have just ~500Mhash not 10Ghash to play around like this.
I like the system, pool,... it looks ok, but i can't be a part of this.
