I have 2 S4's both running the same over-clock. One has its 3/4 boards running of the original PSU and the the last board is running of a corsair HX850w(80silver). Im also running some of the fans on that PSU. The second miner has its boards taken out of the case and placed on a custom cooling rig I have build,( nothing fancy just a lot of fans strapped to the boards) they are running 40 decibel, as I am waiting for the replacement fans for the case(3/4 were DOA when I got the miner). The second miner is running 1932GH/s with only 3/4 boards no dead chips max. 47 C. I am not going to risk overheating my 850W psu so not running the last board from the second miner. Going to get a bigger PSU. I have free electricity currently where I live so going to take advantage of that. Also the miners are sucking outside air of ~9C but my room still gets like ~15-20C. That's why they are so cool. I' m using the latest firmware update from Bitmain and smit's 4.9.0 cgminer.
What is the single board running off the corsair pulling at the wall? Wondering if I can run 2 overclocked boards off a single 750W server psu. I don't have a watt meter for the PSU but I have run 2 boards on the 850Watt (80silver) PSU I have, on stock voltage/frequency (206.25Mhz and 0.725Volt) without any trouble. I think you need at least a 1000Watt PSU if you want to run 2 boards over-clocked. You may be able to run 2 boards stock at 750Watt ( gold 80) minimum but don't push it, you want to have 10-20% to spare if you going to use a second PSU. It depends on the efficiency of the PSU all ways have some room for wear, the efficiency will drop with time. Will get a watt meter soon.

Thanks, going to give this a try since bitmain doesn't seem to be in a hurry to fix their broken firmware. Is this modded firmware based on the Oct. 16th or Jan. 29th release from bitmain? Also, is there a version available with the fan speeds lowered?

This is fantastic thank you. Just one thing on the website it notes "Instructions how to replace stock AntMiner cgminer binary are included in the zip packages as README file." I downloaded the Antminer S4 file you linked but there is no README file. I can run back through this post and learn but you should get that in there.

Hi smit, Have you made a version of the firmware posted by nicehash with the slow fan speed mod? Also, would you be able to look into the problems with the Jan 29th frimware? In a nutshell, the voltage controls don't work, ie setting anything doesn't actually apply those voltages. Another new problem is that mining on p2pool is totally messed up at speeds of 225MHz or higher. It works perfectly up to 218.25MHz. This wasn't an issue with the Oct. 16th firmware, p2pool worked perfectly at all speeds. Bitmain has acknowledged the issues, and is "working" on a fix. We all know how long that will take... Would be amazing if you were able to fix one or both of the problems! (I know I could simply use Oct. 16th based firmware, but the Jan 29th firmware is better in every single way... Much more stable)

I'd say fixing the voltage is the biggest priority. You can add me on skype if you'd like to work on it together. prelude514 If we can get this working I'll give you .1BTC.
Anyone else want to pitch in? I know most of you guys probably won't, but come on... If smit can do this you'll be using his firmware for sure to underclock and save money on power. Don't be greedy pricks! And don't expect bitmain to fix this anytime soon.

Like other S4 owners, one of my PSUs blew shortly after the 90 day warranty. Bitmain's response? "find one from your local market".
It's astounding that Bitmain will only give a 90 day warranty on their PSU.
I was pretty sure I wouldn't be buying anymore Bitmain hardware. This sealed the decision.

Sorry to hear that. The warranty should definitely be extended on the PSU considering it's horrible MTBF.

Just about every namebrand PSU manufacturer offers a minimum of a 3 year warranty. If Bitmain is only offering 90 days, that essentially means they are using junk PSUs in their unit. BUYER BEWARE. M

M I agree. Only a 90 day warranty on PSUs is very bad. Almost all standalone 80+ Gold ATX PSUs I am buying with 5 or more years warranty. But they are not alone, for example also I had not good experiences with PSUs from Gridseed (their A1 miner).

So one of my Fans died,
I bought a Delta TFC1212DE-PWM to replace it: 12v 5500 rpm 3.9A
I connected the 4 cables correctly for the PWM, the S4 starts correctly, when it starts mining, that fan starts slow down, from 3000~ RPM, gradually to 1800~RPM, then to 600~RPM and then if turn it off after a few minutes (like 10min). What is wrong? tried checking the connections and are correct.
So i disconnected the 2 PWM cable connections, and now i have it running like that, at max i think 5500rpm.
Anyone have an idea or clue on why the S4 PWM eventually disables the FAN?
Maybe im doing something incorrect? or the fan is not compatible with pwm of the s4? Thank you guys.

I haven't mined on nicehash but I believe it's one of those altcoin hopping proxy pool, isn't it? Altcoin blocks are much easier to find than btc blocks. Too bad those weren't all btc blocks. I'm guessing you've found quite a bit of practically worthless altcoin blocks.
