1961  Economy / Gambling / Re: How do you know how to trust online sportsbooks? on: June 15, 2022, 11:47:49 PM
Hello everyone, I've been using online sportsbooks for a while now, but I wanted to know how do you know how to trust those sites? What do you look for in them, what are some red flags for you, that kind of stuff. Hope it makes sense and please share what are your favorite online sportsbooks.

Just like any gambling website also, you have to check for several factors, which may include:

  • The website's traffic;
  • The number of years the website is running in the internet;
  • It's overall feedback and review done by others;
  • If the website has an active customer support service; and
  • If it has a standard and working domain;

The factors that I have listed are some of the general information that one must check before they attempt to try an online sportsbook or even a gambling website. Since this involves depositing/holding funds for you, then it is better to exercise the utmost care and caution before delving completely.
1962  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is the crash in bitcoin price a threat to forum existence? on: June 15, 2022, 11:41:05 PM
Bitcoins and its related discussions is the subject matter and major objective why this forum was first created after bitcoins from my observation, but considering the current dump in bitcoin, assuming that the prices never goes up and bitcoin ceases to exist or looses value completely, will this forum continue to function?

No and I do not think that there is a correlation between the price of BTC and the existence of this forum.

Remember that this forum was created in order to be the main repository of information about several and tons of discussion about CRYPTOCURRENCIES. Though bitcoin may be the main discussion, there are still altcoins that are being actively discussed under this section. In addition, the price of BTC dropping is an excellent discussion which necessarily has to be discussed and talked about given this very bearish market.

Investors and HODLers would definitely want to hear smart opinions of cryptocurrencies veterans and analyst in the market. Given by these facts, I really doubt that the forum's existence is a threat given the significant drop of BTC's price in the market.
1963  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Teaching college students about Bitcoin on: June 15, 2022, 11:29:23 PM
According to my experience in this field, the most important obstacle facing a person who wants to teach new generations about Bitcoin is first of all defining what money is and how the global financial system works, as well as about canceling the preconceived notion that Bitcoin will enable its user to get rich quickly.
It is also preferable to stay away from trying to explain Bitcoin through complex technical concepts such as blocks and transaction history.

I agree with you. It is like saying, money is the foundation of everything that can be purchased in the world, while cryptocurrencies are a branch of what emanates from money itself- something that is more specific and complex compared to fiat alone.

OP, what you have done is truly remarkable and commendable. By your own efforts, you are slowly integrating and teaching the foundations of cryptocurrencies to the youth. You are exposing them to something that may be highly relevant in the future. With these, they can now start trying or attempting to use cryptocurrencies which sparked their curiosity towards this subject.
1964  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why is it so hard to win at gambling? on: June 15, 2022, 11:04:46 PM
I remember, I extensively discussed about the topic on winning in gambling. Like the one you just mentioned OP, even if you win in gambling, you lose in different factors which is outside profit. For example, a person who wins in a gambling spree is most likely just balanced his winnings and losings in the process.

What gamblers feel is the excitement towards winning, disregarding their total winnings + losings in the balance sheet which highly suggest that they are still losing money on the process or just entirely recovered their losses.

Not to mention, gamblers have only two (2) options when they win, either: they continue; or they stop. But I do think that when a person wins in a gambling spree, the more likely scenario is that they will gamble again to feel that adrenaline and excitement, thus contributing to the loss fund they just started recovering.
1965  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Japanese man gambled away a huge Covid-19 relief funds mistakenly sent to him on: June 15, 2022, 10:55:26 PM
According to the link, the man was mistakenly sent the money, not that the man mistakenly sent the money to his bank account. That money is huge and the man should be blamed. He spent it so much on gambling which is another reason to blame him. All I think is that he may want to play smart, knowing authority will still come for the money, but just use it to fastly take a chance and use part of it to gamble continuously and losing it. That money is very huge for the man not to be blamed, he should be blamed.

Thank you very much for the clarification- then it all makes sense now.

First, I thought that the Japanese man should not entirely be blamed by this incident. But since he intentionally knew about the funds for the covid relief, then he should be put behind bars for using such funds for his personal gain. But despite all of this, there is that growing concern of his addiction. Imagine, spending that much amount of money in a relatively short amount of time- I guess their government has to address the issue of addiction after all.
1966  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: HODLing strong! on: June 14, 2022, 11:58:48 PM
"Here's to the crazy ones, the HODLERS, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see the market differently -- they're not fond of ATHs... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push BITCOIN forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can HODL forever, are the ones who do"

Steve Jobs

With all of the prices decreasing and the prices of commodities increasing, the best course of action is indeed to HODL your coins. Wait for the market to stabilize as almost all of the global economy has been in turmoil. Prices of oil has been steadily increasing due to the war between Ukraine and Russia and this has definitely affected the global supply chain all over the world.

With that being said, while it may also be easier said than done, but HODLing may be the best course of action. But an investor must always listen and adhere to his contingent plan if they created one in case the price of BTC drops further.
1967  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do You Think Its One Too Many on: June 14, 2022, 11:54:08 PM
I will not mention any particular gambling casinos, but what are your thought if the casino or casinos with good feedback from the community, but with one unresolved scam accusation but from all angles, the accusation is legit with all the screenshots, transaction hash email conversation are provided by the complainant lets say he is not allowed to withdraw his earnings amounting to $100k but from all angles the accusation is valid, don't you think with thousand good feedback, its enough for the casino to lose his reputation with one legit accusation.

This depends upon the substantiated proof by the complainant in this scenario.

Remember that gambling casinos can withheld any funds or withdraws if they see that you violated their TOS agreement or any of their stipulated rules. But if a reputable gambling website has been acknowledged that they indeed withheld funds without any reason, then it really takes only one negative and genuine feedback to lose their years of reputation building in the process.

Again, gambling websites should maintain their reputation and address all the concerns in order to prevent losing their customers. Their feedback from their customers is basically their life.
1968  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA Finals 2022 - Warriors vs Celtics. on: June 14, 2022, 02:44:52 PM
Game 5 was explosive for the Warriors tonight. It showed on how dominating the performance of all the Warriors team gathered around the game earlier. Even if they try to double or triple team Curry in order to prevent him from making his plays, his teammates compensate by attracting defenders and making plays after plays with all the defenders chasing around them.

Like what I previously mentioned, I do think that the Celtics cannot handle the offensive pressure that GSW puts to their defense and plays. As much as I want the Warriors to win at their home court, I do think that game 6 would be decided in their favor.
1969  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Self before asset on: June 11, 2022, 11:56:59 PM
Investment is a game of knowledge the less you know the less the pay the more you know the more the pay. When it comes to what comes first in crypto investment i tell my friends it is knowledge,When good foundation and well structured knowledge meets the market structure and trends losses are reduced to the minimal. Good knowledge attracts investors and once trust is established it grows into a mega establishment. The trend is no respecter of any analyst or speculator. Get the skill and save the bill

In the hierarchy of investment assets comes second. Because if an investor refuse to pay to learn, They have no choice but to pay to the trend. If you are not learning to earn, you will learn to learn.

This actually makes sense given the fact that most of the people have invested into cryptocurrencies, yet they experienced losing on their investments.

The greatest example that I could provide is the event that transpired back in the last quarter of 2017. The price of BTC during that year skyrocketed from ~$2,000 to ~$17,000 during the last quarter of that year. When majority of the people found out about this, they quickly joined the trend without even knowing and understanding the fundamentals of cryptocurrencies. After a few weeks/months, the prices dropped to around $7,000-$10,000 and those people spread negative news about investing into BTC.

Again, if you are planning to invest in ANY platform, please do your respective researches on the subject. Like OP mentioned, investing because of the trend can lead to learning valuable lessons.
1970  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dealing with ISP block on Gambling websites on: June 11, 2022, 11:51:39 PM
With laws being implemented to combat gambling addiction, it is but necessary for the government of some countries to create laws restricting such access. I really do think that your case is an example of such. While you were able to access the gambling website before, your country has acted upon such to limit/restrict your access on it.

Since this is the case on your end, I recommend trying some other gambling websites as a lot has been circulating nowadays. Though it sucks to lose access to the gambling website you have been accustomed using with, such is not the end of the world as it can easily be remedied.
1971  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can You See Or Tell If A Fight Or Event Is Fix ? on: June 11, 2022, 11:44:19 PM
Maybe this could happen. as we know that the world of sports betting is sometimes very influential and involves a lot of big people and high-ranking people in the world. There are many of them who bet money or whatever in sports betting. So it could be that they do some match-fixing which sometimes makes us sports bettors very surprised by the results. but of course we cannot accuse or prove it easily.

Just to share and add to my previous post, I also remember that there was an allegation against game fixing in Dota 2. Since gambling skins in-game is a very prominent practice being used by gamblers, it is nothing but normal for some people to bet thousands of dollars worth of skins every game.

Years ago, there was a game being held and as expected thousands of players participated on the bet. But during the course of the game, both teams made very questionable plays and movements that made them suspect that they are involved in "game-fixing." Valve quickly made an investigation which turned out to be positive, so all the players responsible were held accountable.
1972  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's been your greatest challenge on BTT ? on: June 11, 2022, 11:37:45 PM
The real purpose of backwards glancing eye is to educate yourself constantly - looking at the past helps to learn from those who came before you, since they are personal experience, this is the most vital school one can learn from.

Examining from the mistakes made in the past, the ones that have grievously held you back, share your experience,a newbie or anyone an analyze and extract a lesson.

What has been your greatest challenge on Bitcointalk? And how did you go about it ?

I think my greatest challenge that I experienced was to understand all the jargons and terms used.

When I entered this forum back in 2017, there were dozens of discussion about the nature and history of cryptocurrencies. Being a college student with no knowledge or anything whatsoever, it was a challenge to fully grasp the effect of cryptocurrencies and to understand its dynamics.

While the problem revolves around understanding cryptocurrencies, I think it does not necessarily associate with a problem directly involving BTT itself.
1973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will countries ban Bitcoin mining due to environmental concerns? on: June 11, 2022, 11:30:37 PM
Do you think countries worldwide will ban Bitcoin mining due to environmental concerns? If not, why? If mining is banned, do you think Bitcoin will switch to PoS? Will it still survive being a PoW cryptocurrency? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Smiley

I do not think so but there are environmental movements being created against cryptocurrency mining.

As far as I remember, there was a similar post like this one and someone extensively replied, saying that the heat generated by cryptocurrency mining is relatively low to the point that it does not produce as a pollution perse compared to other pollutions present. Unfortunately, instead of addressing current and worse pollutions in the world, these movements are targeting cryptocurrency mining because of pure hatred.

Like what some countries have done, a miner can geographically and strategically setup their mining equipments in countries or places with a cool climate to reduce the outgoing heat. But I really doubt that countries would permanently ban cryptocurrency mining.
1974  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Slots is More Likely to Cause Gambling Problem on: June 10, 2022, 11:49:58 PM
Slots is not only the existing gambling, generally both sport and casino and other types of gambling can be addicting, that is why it is good to use the amount of money you can afford to lose to gamble. The problem of gambling is when someone is using large sum of money which is beyond his capability. It is not only slots that are addictive, all other gambling means are addictive. But what makes it most addictive are people that think they can make a living, earning, profit from gambling which will not be what will happen as the person continues gambling.

I think you somehow deviated from the point that OP mentioned.

While sports gambling can be addictive, slots can be associated with more addiction due to its very simple nature and convenience on the player's end. In addition, slots are designed in order to trick the brain into winning the whole jackpot since they show figures that a player can potentially receive.

While complete data is provided (like OP mentioned) to show that the odds of winning a slot machine jackpot is so low, people still opt to choose this kind of gambling method. I hope the government creates some sort of regulation or at least provide more disclaimers about slot machines in order to avoid addiction more.
1975  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports Betting vs Online Casino Games: Which do you prefer? on: June 10, 2022, 11:42:03 PM
When I asked his reason for abandoning sports betting for online crypto casinos. He told me that aside from being able to receive payment in bitcoins, he loved the instant winnings that the online casinos offer. Secondly, online casino games are less stressful than sports betting.  He explained that sports betting requires knowledge of the sports and sophisticated strategies to win.  I cannot tell if he is better off in terms of winning in his online casino games than he did in sports betting. So between sports betting and online casino games, which do you prefer?

I agree with the points raised by your friend but it all boils down to personal preference.

As explained by your friend, online casino games are instant- meaning a person bets and the outcome is showed to you within seconds after the round ends in a current game. While some games require pure luck (e.g. slots, etc.), there are some card games that require some degree of techniques in order to at least reduce the risks you are facing (e.g. poker, etc.).

With regard to sports betting, knowledge about the given sport is definitely essential. If you have some data to formulate a hypothesis on who would win in a given match, then you are somehow reducing the odds of failure. The problem is, the winnings can be realized later on after the game ends.

Personally, I would choose sports betting since it is relatively safer compared to online casino games. Though there may be a delay in profit materialization, at least the risks involved aren't that high compared to playing slots, poker, or any related online casino games.
1976  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Before Bitcoin education, teach your children cyber security education. on: June 10, 2022, 11:13:08 PM
Good point OP, but I would stress that school education on all things cyber (to use that general term) is an imperative, as well as general economic education (I know former socialist countries had that but also USA through some of their programs). The kids are allready behind the times so it's high time for some educational shifts.

In addition to the excellent points stated by OP, I think it is also noteworthy to mention and to add that teaching children how to learn the value of money can be a crucial aspect towards their appreciation in investing. If children know how to value their resources, then they would slowly develop this kind of mentality where they will conserve their resources and money.

I remember that my parents used to tell me that before I can purchase something or ask, I should definitely work hard for something that I want. Whether it be toys or anything, I should always do something in return (e.g. clean my bed, etc.).
1977  Economy / Economics / Re: Taking loan during high inflation? on: June 10, 2022, 03:42:29 PM

The good news is bitcoin is on bearish mode now, you can buy more with the money you will borrow.

Borrow you said huh.... Lol. At any point it is not a wise decision to borrow money for cryptocurrency investment. Bitcoin being a bear and you can't say if it is at the bottom yet and it may keep sliding down  It Is not a very good advise to use another person's money to invest in bitcoin. This should be a disclaimer for newbies and people thinking this way also.
Cryptocurrency investment is high risk involved unlike the traditional market. Every country is experiencing the hardship out of the rise in price of oil and natural gas. Almost every country is experiencing inflation and the GDP have dropped drastically. The interest rates too have increased alot. By this time taking a loan for an investment into cryptocurrency is like a gamble. So, good is to stay away from loan for now.

Though this may be the case, investing into cryptocurrencies can have positive effects if you truly aim for long-term investment.

Given that the nature of cryptocurrencies are deflationary and limited in character, you can purchase and HODL them for long-term. As a rule that can be applied to all investments, only invest the amount that you are willing to lose. In addition, always have a clear goal and plan towards your investments if you truly plan on profiting in the end. It is also advisable to create a contingency plan to know the minimum/maximum profit or loss you are wiling to shoulder.
1978  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you educate petty traders in adopting Bitcoin? on: June 10, 2022, 03:27:15 PM
It is not easier said than due to the fact that these vendors are also incapable of purchasing some sort of technology in order to store their cryptocurrencies. Let us say that these vendors were able to get their hands on some cryptos, the problem would be in cashing them out as this limits further their trade. But I doubt that such would be an issue to people who live in first-world countries.

As for third-world countries where majority of the BTC transactions exist, I hope that the technology would be somehow simplified in order for these "petty traders" to understand fully and adopt it to their respective businesses.
1979  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Length of Time Before You Learn All These Gambling Terms Or Jargons on: June 10, 2022, 01:13:22 AM
When you're starting out as a gambler there are terms and jargon that have to be explained to you or you have to research for you to understand its meaning and how it applies to gambling.

In your experience how long or the Length of Time Before You Learn All These Gambling Terms Or Jargon like wage, seed, provably fair, martingale, and so on.

I do not think that there are enough jargons or terms that are relatively difficult to understand.

I remember when I first entered a casino, it was very difficult for me to understand the basics of poker, especially that they use terms such as hit, fold, etc. I was somehow confused on what those are but I quickly learned the meaning after doing some research.

Maybe the jargons you are pointing out can be applicable to some gambling methods that are practiced culturally or that is specific in a given country. But from my experience alone, I have yet to encounter a term that is of its first kind.
1980  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA Finals 2022 - Warriors vs Celtics. on: June 09, 2022, 03:32:01 PM
I expect that the Golden State will lose this round but I didn't expect that they would give such performance, there's a lot of lose ball and interceptions, bad passes. It looks like they didn't expect that the defense of the Boston will be really that close. Performance from Tatum is really great, execution of plays as well as the attacks from the Celtics are great.

Looking forward for GSW win in the next round.

I actually did not expect them to lose to game 3 at this state- I guess, Curry got his knees injured which somehow affected his gameplay and mentality all throughout. Nevertheless, Jordan Poole has to step-up his game and get away from his shooting slump. It is times like these that his all-star talent and confidence and needed especially that the Celtics are playing good defense.

I really do hope that Warriors bounce back in game 4. While this may be the case, I still think that they will be winning the playoffs this year.
