1761  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to sign a message?! on: May 28, 2015, 12:42:09 PM
may i ask, how to read this code
 [ img]https://i.imgur.com/rB1oVZJ.png[/img]
if others give code like that I'm confused how to read or how to find out that it was true  Huh

Why do you need to do that? It's a signature which tells us whether the message was signed by the address in question.

why do we need a sign message?

Signed message proves you have control over that address.

this puzzles me everytime i see someone asking for a sign message on an account or a wallet. how to determine that the message came from the account itself?

i understood how to sign a message, thanks to shorena for that. much appreciate.

since we are following and arrow going down, how to get the arrow going up and confirm the message is from the account or the wallet?

A signed message can be verified. If a person gives you signed message claiming it was signed with addressA and if it is successfully verified, the message *was* signed with addressA. But if the verification failed, message was *not* signed with addressA and hence, the person who gave you this doesn't have control over addressA.

well then i have another question, if the account was hacked and the hacker bruteforced the email address of the person, he can sign a message with the account anytime he wants since he can change the password of the account.

i understand its a plausible level of security since everybody urges the signature on almost every deal of accounts or loans. but i havent really understood how and how to know that the message is from the account and not just random

You are mistaken. Bitcointalk account and Bitcoin address are different. You are signing with a Bitcoin address not with Bitcointalk account.
1762  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: About double spending on: May 28, 2015, 12:23:41 PM
Actually is not a blockchain wallet. It's a multibit wallet address and i clicked on a previous transaction to see the details on blockchain and then i saw the above message.

It will appear if you receive any double-spent Bitcoin regardless of the wallet you use.

So you think it will stop showing after a while?

(AFAIK) if one of the transactions which use same input is dropped, it will be gone. If not, then Blockchain.info should fix this.

There is one more thing:
A few days ago i sent some coins from one address to another, in the same wallet (multibit), just for testing purposes (to see if i can send between my addresses inside the same wallet).

You think this is why i get this message?

Thanks!

Maybe. If input in that transaction was already spent or if you spent it later.

Did you transferred the money between wallet without fees ?
I think you probably did and that's the reason it appeared.
I never had such experience ,so no idea on fixing it.
Good luck

hmmm

not sure, but i think i have set a fee by default, so any transaction will go out with the minimum fee.
 -snip-

No. Sending a zero fee transaction doesn't make this warning appear in bc.io. It appears *only* if you receive any double-spending transaction.

-snip-
but it showed the warning message when I checked it on the blockchain.info site, which you described above but it did went away after a day I think.

The double-spent Bitcoin you received may have dropped and the warning went away.

So my guess it will go away on it's own in a day or two.

It's permanent like redsn0w told but (AFAIK) if one of the transactions which use same input is dropped, it will be gone. If not, then Blockchain.info should fix this.
1763  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: How was my mobile wallet hacked? on: May 28, 2015, 12:08:48 PM
On blockchain.info it has some weird label: "00000123456":
https://blockchain.info/address/1Bn9ReEocMG1WEW1qYjuDrdFzEFFDCq43F

This seems to be a bug?  Is this some brainwallet?

That label was added by the owner of that address. Anybody can label address they own in Blockchain.info - https://blockchain.info/tags

In that case the tag should tell us about the hacker, as it's most likely the hacker who gave it the label?

Yes but I don't think you should completely trust that labeling because I can label an address I created with your name. This can also be a trap for someone else. IDK.
1764  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: JOSHUA ZIPKINS THE MAN WHO DDOS'd BTCTALK!!!! on: May 27, 2015, 07:25:04 AM
Is quickseller trying to bury the association?

Interesting in deed.

Opi stop listening to QS I doubt he knows anything more about all this than you do personally and spread the information FAR and WIDE leave no media or agency untouched with the information. Some of it will stick. Mister Quickseller is anonymous entity on these boards and covers up his location / identity for someone that is supposedly trustworthy you might want to be more careful in your interactions with this user Opi.

What QS said is true. CCN is not a credible news site. They use lot of speculation and tell it's a fact.

@OP: I recommend you to message CoinTelegraph. You need to provide them with valid proof. CoinDesk is also good.

Blockchain.info wallets are not stealable, unless you have written your secret passphrase and you password down somewhere.
Also, how did you manage to get 5 bitcoins? Post your public address. Btc is not reversable and no one will give the stolen money back to you. There is not customer support or things like that. When its gone, its gone forever. Unless the thief sends it back to you

Prove that the address is yours by singing a message with that address

What do you mean singing a message with that address

Ignore him He doesn't really no what he's talking about but signing a message is just a way tio prove that you own a specific address. You can find out more about it here for future info: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=180068.0

Describe it in more simple way, then.

Are you using an older version? See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0#post_multibit0518.

how do I send this message? code appears in the 'Signature' field, so i figure i will copy paste this code and paste it onto the forum post where i am trying to verify my identity... guess what? you cant copy or paste this.... its a few lines of code... I'm in a hurry... wtf guys?

Copy address, message and signature, send it to the person you want to or post here if you want to post here. There is a format for Bitcoin signed message. You can see that in above link.

Does the steps above seem OK? Is there anything that should be changed or added?

Follow Kefkius suggestion. Except step 2, all seems fine.

How does the blockchain know that the address's that were generated offline are valid?

Bitcoin address contain a checksum.

What I really want to know is this

How was the op of this forum able to change their name from MR anonymous vip , to satoshi to TradeFortress ??

Does being a donator to the forum allow you to change your user name ?

If not how was this person able to change their name.

Also another poster in this thread changed their name from what it is now to Satoshi.

I posted my second post pointing to the true satoshi.

Then shortly after they change it back and i think other people on the thread modified thier posts also but i cannot be sure on that.
Yes, you guessed it right. If you are a donator - as a result you will gain an ability to change your nickname. Normal users can not change their names.
The only problem here is I didn't know that you can change it to be exactly the same as someone else's name. As you could see there were two account named 'satoshi' at some point.
I am not sure how it is possible. Maybe he used some blank spaces in this name, I am not sure. But you can tell by forum ID when you check profile: real Satoshi ID is just user no3 and this fake is some higher number.

He changed 'display' name not username.

About CloudFlare, I was referring to DNS Protection which involves using CloudFlare's DNS, we don't give the keys!

This has been discussed before. We don't use CloudFlare because of potential risks.

About transaction fees:
Now the fee is no more the difference between all inputs and all outputs, but it is determined by the client in relation to its size and priority, am I right?

It has not changed. {...}

Transaction fee reduced.

You are mistaken. It can be stolen if any of the transactions generated weak signature.

any way to sign a message using blockchain, with no need to export the key?
