Is Bitminter ASIC friendly? I hopefully have a Single SC coming.

Yes, there are several Avalon ASICs mining in the pool.

I am currently working on BFL SC support for BitMinter client.

Great. Smiley

You'll get my support if BFL ever ships.

Got a small mining farm running here at work roughly 16hrs a day - combinations of 6750's, 6770's & a few GTX 675's - around the 10-15 machine mark depending on who is in the office, wish there were more bank holidays. Clocking anything between 800Mh/s and 1.5Gh/s depending on how many machines i have up at once. Bit of a plate spinner what with people logging out of my admin acc when they get in etc but worth it, have a few scripts running to avoid a few hassles

Waiting on my Single SC to land. Glad that Bitminter is supporting ASIC

Hello everyone. I am a complete noob and only know basics about mining.

I am at work. The only way I can get my computer to mine ANYTHING is through this Bitminter Java App with firewall friendly option enabled.

I can't EVER get another mining application to work when I specify port 80 (much less any other port).

Can someone tell me how I can get this to work without using the applet (but still getting the "firewall friendly" option so it will work at my office)?

Also, is there a Litecoin equivelant to this? The office firewall blocks all webminers and guiminers for litecoin and their pools as well.

EDIT: Even after tethering my machine at the office through my iPhone I still cannot mine anything. The only option that works is BTC mining through the Bitminter applet. Anyone have an idea as to what could be happening?

Alright - I am complete BitNoob - and I have some questions - So I got the bitminter client running on 1 desktop, 2 laptops all logged into my account - making mHash stuff.  My desktop with its kickass GPU is now cranking out 360Mhps - which I suppose is  .0269 bitcoins per day - which at current exchange rates is $3.7 - so no i cant retire yet.  I know the ASICs are getting ready to drop like the beat in a harlem shake video and mess up everything this side of Cypress (yeah poor saps should have invested in bitcoins sooner).  So far so good so whats the question newb?  AH.

I set up a wallet a bitcoin wallet and it moved the address it gave me (after i did the encrpt thingy) and set it up in bitminer account setting so it will push bitcoins to my wallet.

1) Where do i send namecoins?

2) How do I get the money converted from bitcoins to us dollars?  What web brokerage does that to like paypal or something?

3) Will the ASICs  gigahashing the interwebs to hell and gone be offset by the current EU meltdown and the increase in the value of bitcoins in general?  (i know one is apples and one is oranges (as it gets harder to mine each bitcoin they should become worth more and more as demand increases and people get scared of banks)

The third questions is of course opinion based - but you cats know and are the subject matter experts - i am just a guy with 1 desktop and 2 laptops and an eye on a jalepeno ASIC thing for 129 bux - which should pay off in 14 days - when they ship - and when i can get like 6 bucks from these magic internet coins into my hand/paypal/ something with a $ beside it for proof of concept.

WHich for all you not so business majors out there is a kickass ROI even if it were 10x longer!

Thanks in advance.  Sorry for the alacrity and the freewritteness of this post.

First the main reason I'm here, MSI Afterburner has released beta 3.0 which add a plethora of features and fixes. The best of which is a fix for the screen tearing cause by using Afterburner with AMD drivers, finally.

Next, the easiest, quickest, and cheapest way to get you BTC converted to your curenct of choice is through Bitpay.com it IS the paypal of bitcoins.

DrHaribo, have you noticed the upswing in namecoins yet? Over at BTC-E the selling for .008-.0088 BTC, around $1.17 each namecoin. That's pretty impressive, more importantly, profitable.

1) Where do i send namecoins?

You can get a wallet to run on your computer from http://dot-bit.org or you can send directly to an exchange, for example https://btc-e.com/ https://exchange.bitparking.com/main https://vircurex.com/

3) Will the ASICs  gigahashing the interwebs to hell and gone be offset by the current EU meltdown and the increase in the value of bitcoins in general?

Bitcoin has increased in value crazy fast lately. It's hard to predict what will happen tomorrow. Don't hold more coins than you can afford to lose.

My take on it long term: increased bitcoin minting rates is temporary until difficulty catches up. I also don't think it will make a noticable change in the amount of daily traded bitcoins. The failure of greedy banksters and corrupt and/or incompetent politicians is permanent. It really comes down to this: would you rather trust that 1+1=2 or would you trust a shifty guy with a sleazy grin who promises not so steal/tax/devalue your money while you sleep?

DrHaribo, have you noticed the upswing in namecoins yet? Over at BTC-E the selling for .008-.0088 BTC, around $1.17 each namecoin. That's pretty impressive, more importantly, profitable.

Yep, I wrote about that here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=166213.0

The namecoin price already started to drop since then. But I think getting more than 1 USD per Namecoin is very good.

Any hs_err_pid files left on the desktop? That happens when the graphics drivers crash.

I just installe the new driver yesterday.

Catalyst 13.1?

Here is how to properly clean up the mess created by that version: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=359883

Try installing 13.3 beta instead. And don't install AMD APP SDK, there's no need for it.

I have used bitminter and it is a very nice pool for BTC. I wish it supported LTC as well, perhaps even PPC, as both the currencies are more profitable at the moment.

Here are a few feature requests for bitminter.com:
1) Litecoin support
2) automatic NMC to BTC conversion at some automatic sell volume threshold (I would take the highest bid on BTC-E with no worries), eg sell every time the account reaches 5 or 10 NMC
3) better ddos protection

I also noticed a strange MH/s fluctuation during the time I was connected, it seemed like bitminter was not able to give me enough shares to saturate my gpus, so the rigs ran at lower than max speeds for several hours (10-20% variation from hour to hour). Would like to know what this is due to, if drHaribo has any idea? :-)

Thanks,
Dj

I get around 15MH/s on my ATI RV730 CPU normally, but with your java miner, I get a solid 20MH/s! Whatever you're doing with that miner, good job! Any chance you'll be adding any of the better CPU mining cores to the client in the future?

20MH/s?
Doesnt the cpu use more electrisity than you will earn in bitcoin?

with my intel 3770 i get like 13MH/s... one single 5830 GPU gets me 200...

Thanks for the suggestions. Smiley

The drop in hashrate sounds very odd. Which miner are you using? Do you get messages about running out of work and idling?

Just wanted to say hi to the Bitminter Community.  I tinkered with BitCoins shortly after their release a few years back.  It was very new and frustrating.  I mined some coins over a few months, but the confusion never really cleared up so I abandoned it.  Now a few years later I'm back and after seeing the price for coins really bummed I let the ones I mined back then just "go".  But, remember back then there was little value to them, and hind-sight is 20/20.  Anyway.  Crunching away again using the super easy bitminter client and just having fun with it I guess.  While the wallet function makes a lot more sense now on the Bitcoin side.  I'm having issues figuring out what to do with the namecoins I'm earning...  I've set my donation to 50% to the bitminter host since I can't figure out anything about them. Is there a simple noob guide somewhere that explains Namecoins?
Running now on a 5870, a 680MX, two 5770's (occasionally) and a few other machines that I randomly turn on and off depending on if other people need them.  When all is fired up I'm just around 1 Ghps.

Oh, just want to add I'm damn impressed seeing the total comp power of the bitminter pool grow by over 1Thps in the 2 1/2 weeks I've been a member.  That's impressive growth.

Hi and welcome to the pool Smiley

You can read about namecoins at http://dot-bit.org

You can sell namecoins at exchanges:

https://btc-e.com/
https://exchange.bitparking.com/main
https://vircurex.com/

And thanks for the donations, they are greatly appreciated. Smiley
