A right is something that is given to you. It can be taken away from you at a whim.
This is false. What you are describing is a privilege. A right cannot be taken away... only violated. The enumeration in the U.S. Constitution does not create, grant, or define the rights of the people. It merely observes a few important ones (not to imply that all of the infinite unobserved rights are unimportant). Alexander Hamilton was very much against the inclusion of the Bill of Rights, fearing the exact perspective quoted above—the implication that any right not observed is surrendered, or that the Constitution is defining The People's only protections, when in reality the Constitution places no limitations on The People, and explicitly defines the only powers the government shall ever have, because only people (not organizations) can have rights. I go further, and affirm, that Bills of Rights, in the sense and to the extent in which they are contended for, are not only unnecessary in the proposed Constitution, but would even be dangerous. They would contain various exceptions to powers not granted; and on this very account, would afford a colorable pretext to claim more than were granted. For why declare that things shall not be done which there is no power to do?
That's a whole larger discussion about semantics and the definition of rights that's probably not suitable here, nor do I really care to partake. Just don't conflate a freedom with a right. Note that there are large disagreements as to what "rights are". The original point still bears hearing; that no matter what you're promised, or what you think you're entitled to, it can be taken away from you by people with more power. |

I will be lecturing about investing to the junior college students in a few weeks. The course is all about investing (and maybe some entrepreneurship). Other guest lecturers are from banks.
I had thought to start the slideshow from a mock-up of a generic bank presentation, with title "diversification" and then 2 classes: stocks and bonds. Then the next slides would zoom this out so that eventually the listeners would realize that what was presented to them as the extent of diversification by the banks, would fit in a tiny corner of mainly-correlated instruments with mainly the same risk profile and total loss profile.

In fact, I'd probably hazard a guess that the labour injected is actually generating more auto-toxic results than positive ones. So I'm walking along the street and a guy comes up to me and he's wearing a lime green cap, and a lime green T-shirt with white lettering, and lime green shorts, and he's handing out lime green flyers, and he's smiling and he says "Excuse me sir have you...." - - "NOOO." I would say. "Sorry I'm in a rush I've got an appointment with a dentist who's just died and he's on fire and I... sorry... bye." He could have just been asking for the time for all I care, but it's "NOOOOooo sorryyyyy bbye bye". Now consider, a man with a NORMAL haircut, wearing NORMAL clothes, and for all intents looking NORMAL, with a NORMAL attitude and everything about this guy is just NORMAL..... and he comes up to me and he's like "Hey do you have the time?" "Yes." I would say, "It's 2:15." "Thankyou o wise one." he might retort. "Anytime o inquisitive one. My pleasure indeed." I might add. etc etc etc etc The moral of the story is: Why are you dressed up in a lime green T-shirt? Just take it off man, seriously, you'd have more results. At this point, worse-than-cash-or-gold fungibility is the elephant in bitcoin's living room. Sidechains (and thus CT) are moving forward and will take the taint issue to the forefront of public concern as deployment plays out.
I agree. If/when CT are functional, expect a lot of businesses to say that they won't accept these trasactions. Some examples: *bitpay requires you to confirm your identity to spend "CT coins", maybe by using a bitpay wallet or by requiring you to use a wallet from a certain "approved list" (all these wallets require ID information and you don't own the private keys) *exchanges block direct withdrawels to the CT-sidechain. When they detect you do it by first withdrawing to your own wallet and then sending it to CT, they will flag you. *mining farms/pools are not allowed to process CT transactions due to "money laundering laws" |

I think most had their bids in, but they got filled due to the large dumps from friday + this weekend. I guess it takes a while to recover, the market is somewhat resilient though. |

(This could happen if their attempt to buy caused the price to rise too fast relative to their ability to acquire additional Moneros, to the point that they ultimately had less influence over the future Monero economy than they have over the economy of today.) Thus, the agency problem with Monero affects Monero competitors as well as Monero holders.
Nearly any government agent who begins to see Monero as a potential threat must also simultaneously see it as an opportunity. He, too, can invest in Monero. And why shouldn’t he? Monero may be a threat to his livelihood, but it may well be making him an offer he can’t refuse. How can an organization that stands to lose by the adoption of Monero provide its members with a better opportunity for staying loyal than Monero provides for defection?
Even those who might resist the temptation to defect would have to think about the defection of his fellows. How quickly is adoption happening? Is there time to mount an attack before Monero becomes too powerful? How easily could the resources for such an attack be amassed, given both the ignorance and treachery of the other agents. If such an attack would be unlikely to succeed, then buying now would be the only intelligent action. Regardless of whether he liked Monero, it would be futile to continue pursuing a doomed cause.
Potential Monero attackers are in a Prisoner’s Dilemma. In the same way that the people cannot easily rebel against the king owing to a lack of coordination on their part, governments cannot rebel against Monero for the same reason. The government puts the people in a Prisoner’s Dilemma against one another, and Monero does the same to government agents.
Monero is like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Monero attracts inside men to act as covert saboteurs. There have long been predictions from both Moneroers and naysayers of impending government attacks, but I think there is a possibility that Monero could win without suffering much resistance. Moreover, although I said above only that any legal Monero attack could be perverted, the considerations discussed in this section tend to make such diffusion very likely.
Monero defends itself by being obscure, but once it has attracted someone’s attention, its best interest is for that person to understand the logic presented here. For then he will also understand that his best course is to deny Monero’s threat to his superiors and quietly to become its willing slave. Who wrote this? ^ |

In fact, for every official client release, I may just do a copy/replace search and inject the word "XTREME" after every instance of Monero and change the color scheme to lime green, then market it to radical youth who want to rebel against the financial system and their parents. |
