PSV - Dortmund matchup could also be evaluated as one of the close matchups. Because PSV aren't a weak team and can't be underestimated. Especially by Dortmund I mean. Dortmund have had a really good run in the Champions League so far. I must admit that. However they are still inconsistent in general when we add their performance in the Bundesliga into account as well.

If they can't make any progress until their Champions League first leg game I don't know what kind of a Dortmund we would watch on the pitch against PSV. But as long as they don't lose their focus on the Champions League they should still be able to stay one step ahead.  Smiley

To be honest, I don’t even know who in this pair the bookmakers will consider the favorite - probably Dortmund? Dortmund won the group of death, but in the Bundesliga they are in 5th place (having lost their chances for the title a long time ago) and their winning percentage is below 50%. PSV have 16 wins out of 16 in the national championship (wow) and their mentality is clearly closer to the championship. Maybe in this pair it is worth betting on PSV (if they are underdogs).

The most interesting draws are Napoli - Barcelona and Inter - Atletico Madrid clearly. I'm saying this due to the fact that these are matchups between really close teams in strength.  Smiley  Napoli and Barcelona both are having an inconsistent season in their local leagues. However they have done well in the Champions League so far. I'm seeing Napoli one step ahead for now but they absolutely need Osimhen to have more chance.

When it comes to the other matchup one of the last season finalists is facing Simeone's Atletico Madrid. As Atletico Madrid are playing much better in the Champions League this season it is pretty hard to predict the winner of the draw.  Sad

I would say that these are the only interesting games in 1/8. There is also an even pair of PSV - Dortmund, but this sign is a little lower level. In the remaining pairs, the result looks a foregone conclusion (although of course there will be surprises, as always).
I can’t say that Napoli looks good in the Champions League against the backdrop of two defeats to Real Madrid and the fact that, theoretically, Braga could knock them out of the tournament in the last round. But in the Napoli-Barcelona pair, the Italians will be the favorites for me in both games, Barcelona looks very weak.
In the pair Atletico - Inter, I don’t know what forecasts to make yet. Closer to the games, maybe something will be more clear, but now this pair looks to me as random as possible.
1165  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: January 06, 2024, 07:46:02 PM
Barcelona once again walked on the brink and I can’t say that their victory looks fair. The last time Barcelona won by two goals or more was in September (if all competitions are taken into account), that's more than 20 games ago! It's surprising that they are still contenders (even with small chances) for the title, and Xavi is still the head coach. In fact, Barcelona has ceased to be a “dangerous top team” at all, at the moment it is an ordinary club from the top of the standings.
Barcelona's victory continued to struggle at the end, I think this is the sharpness of the front line still blunt continues with a penalty prize can be said to be a bonus if not then the result can be a draw.

In fact I would say that Girona is more dangerous now than Barcelona even though the depth of their squad is full of talented players but cannot provide stunning results despite winning in dramatic fashion, I don't know what Xavi's situation is clear he will definitely be angry with his team's performance, but that is not expected by Xavi.

Barcelona is behind Real by as much as 7 points and for the race for the title this is a whole abyss, so yes, no matter how we look at the names, Girona is definitely more dangerous than Barcelona now. I have a hard time believing that Girona will go on par with Real until the very end, but I believe that now Girona is the favorite in the fight for second place.
By the way, I got the impression that everyone forgot about Lewandowski - they used to criticize him, now they simply ignore him. He only has 8 goals scored, which is terrible for a striker of his caliber. I don’t even know whether Barcelona will have time to sell him to Saudi Arabia in the summer, whether the sheikhs will be interested in him.
1166  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: January 06, 2024, 07:35:41 PM
Not only the 2 - 1 of Inter is irregular but also the penalty was to take again.

By FIGC rule if the goalkeeper moves from the line before the striker hits the ball the penalty is invalid.

Its a comic, they have 45 points, and they robbed the past 10.

It seems to me that in order to allow this penalty to be taken again, the referee would have to use VAR. Look at the freeze frame at 2-45 - the player hits the ball and the goalkeeper takes a step almost simultaneously, it is difficult to say whether he violated the rules. Although I remember that in some games the referees were too picky and, in principle, did not allow the goalkeepers to move forward from the goal line (which is quite logical since it is impossible to do this before the ball is kicked).

PSG has problems, especially the coach and the depth of the squad. They have problems in defense and midfield, even if they have big-name strikers. The coach is also the reason why they tend to lose technically, so success is not solely due to the players but also due to the coach's ability to analyze the team's problems and needs. Unfortunately, Messi and Neymar have left while they have Luis Enrique as coach. But Enrique will create his own story this season with PSG even without Messi and Neymar again.

Messi and Neymar had two whole seasons to show something. Considering the level of other partners, including Mbappe, Donnaruma, etc. they had everything to achieve something, but in fact it was two disastrous seasons. Why do you think such a team should be given another chance? Messi is old, Neymar is lazy and undisciplined - the fact that they left the club made PSG stronger. If they continue to get rid of brands and continue to buy real players (and not those who have a couple of years left to play before the recession), then this PSG has great prospects (which, by the way, I’m not happy about since I’m against moneybags).

1 more week to have to spend without EPL football  Roll Eyes. What to do with myself?

I hope we push the Saudi teams hard - Salah is their talisman and I'd literally ask for 500 million to let him go. They'd probably pay half of that without any issues.
They got a lot of money, but would not pay that much. Did not for Ronaldo or Neymar
He is 31 so can be there for about 5 years still at the top level, or as high a level a professional can be in lower leagues. I see them paying between 100-150 million Euros if he plans to stay for a long time.

- Jay -

In fact, if you look at the statistics of the success of players who moved to the Saudi League, at first glance it looks terrible - probably 50% show results clearly below their average. Maybe if you calculate everything accurately, then not everything is so bad, but subjectively it seems so to me. If I were the Saudis (especially having before my eyes the example of Neymar and even Benzema), I would pay half as much as what they offer - in any case, this is more money than in Europe and if the player wants, he will go to them under such conditions.

As for the break, I’m actually glad about it - now I’m making forecasts blindly, I’m even too lazy to check the odds and think seriously. The holidays are a very busy time  Grin
1169  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Europa League 2023/24 Season on: January 06, 2024, 03:16:31 PM
As long as we don't see any surprise the winner of the Europa League title would be one of Liverpool and Leverkusen. I consider teams like Milan, Roma having less chance than them because none of their performances are convincing enough to be able to beat any of Liverpool - Leverkusen duo. Milan and Roma are both are inconsistent teams for now.

I wish to see a Liverpool - Leverkusen finale but we will see. It would be the closest kind of a matchup to a Champions League finale considering the current teams in the Europa League. At least we can watch a game with high tempo and hopefully many goals in it.   Smiley

It would also be nice to see the Liverpool - Bayer Leverkusen pair in the semi-finals. Two top matches are better than one, right? I would like Roma to take the Europa League at the second attempt, but I don’t even know who their opponent should be for the game to be interesting - Mourinho prefers rational football and it is rarely spectacular. Although the game between Roma and Liverpool would probably be good as a final, Liverpool would try to resolve the issue in regular time, and Roma would wait for a penalty shootout  Grin

Newcastle's ranking is getting worse, if last season Newcastle only got 5 defeats until the end of the season, but in the middle of this season alone Newcastle has suffered 9 defeats (Even Newcastle lost to Luton and Nottingham Forest), so it's only natural that the Newcastle coach's future is threatened and he will be replaced, and speculation about howe's replacement has also emerged, jose mourinho - graham potter - conte are on the list. to improve Newcastle's performance like last season then I really agree with the change of coach, honestly Newcastle's performance this season is very bad, it's like they're back in the past lol

I don’t follow Newcastle much, but aren’t their problems due to the epidemic of injuries + the scandal with Tonali, which the head coach really counted on? They are in a difficult situation, but I can't blame the head coach for that. And by the way, such a drop in results should perhaps serve as a signal to management which, after the previous season, thought (my guess) that great results can be achieved without large investments. Many people expected top signings from Newcastle after last season, but they didn’t make them and have now fallen back to where they started. I think it’s easy to draw conclusions here.
1171  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: why do people always play gambling even if they always lose? on: January 06, 2024, 02:43:17 PM
People always gamble because they really want to feel like they are winning. Even if they have to deposit the money again, it still makes them come back again and again. There are still many gambling games that they haven't played so that's what keeps them coming back. They think it's okay if they lose again this time because there will be a time for them to win, so they keep going back to gambling.

Many return for the feeling of wining, but this does not apply to absolutely everyone who is involved in gambling: many play for years and never win but continue to play. I don’t know if you guessed it, but I’m talking about those who play the lottery and dream of winning the jackpot. By buying a lottery ticket, they buy themselves the feeling of a dream - of course, it is almost impossible to win, but nevertheless, this does not stop you from dreaming that this time you will get the jackpot and change your life for the better.
1172  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2023/2024 on: January 06, 2024, 02:35:35 PM
Ronaldo fans still want to hold up the argument on Ronaldo being the GOAT but I think it’ll be all over and crazy if our GOAT, Loses both the league and top scorer position. Which I don’t think he’ll lose both because it’ll be scary for us and a nightmare for us he fans. After about 19 matches, Ronaldo’s team’s still sitting far second on the log but what’s sweet is that him and his teammates are really fighting and supporting each other.
~

I doubt that team results (by the way, the number of goals scored also largely depends on the team) can be transferred to a discussion about individual qualities. This is the first thing. Secondly, no matter how Ronaldo performs in the Saudi League, fans will argue about who is the GOAT based clearly not on his achievements here. All the most important things are already in the past - the Champions League. Of course, there are still games of national teams where Ronaldo is going to continue, but this will be, so to speak, “additional material” for discussion.
1173  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: January 06, 2024, 02:26:11 PM
The idea of not having to play the Champions as an advantage is completely BS.

Without the Champions teams have 80 less million to spend in the market, with that money you can buy 3 good players.

So is it better to play 6 - 8 more games during a season or is better not to have  3 more good players?

His reasoning is quite logical. If Juventus continues to stay close to Inter without giving them room for a single mistake, and if Inter's opponents in the Champions League are difficult, such as Bayern or Real Madrid, then Juventus will have a clear advantage due to an easier calendar of games. Another thing is that playing in the Champions League is very profitable financially, but this does not change the fact that the team’s calendar is becoming more hard.
1174  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2023/2024 on: January 05, 2024, 09:15:40 PM
Ronaldo will win the top scorer trophy this title, I have no doubts about that. He is taking all the penalties and that alone could get him close to that trophy as one third of his goals is scored by penalty. But I don't know whether people really care when Ronaldo is the top scorer in the Saudi Professional League. I admire him for the records he has set in the Champions League, that's the reason I look up to him and have respect for him. I don't care whether he scores 20 goals or 40 goals in the SPL.
We don't know who will be the top scorer. Ronaldo is leading the top scorer now, but we don't know whether he will consistently in scoring goals until the end of the season. We don't forget that Mitrovic also compete for the top scorer status. Mitrovic already scored 17 goals, it is only 3 goals difference from Ronaldo's goals. I think Mitrovic is also the biggest candidate to win the top scorer status.

People will always care about anything Ronaldo does. If he becomes the top scorer and leads Al Nassr to win the trophy, people will be very enthusiastic about the achievement got by Ronaldo. Ronaldo has many fans around the world, the fans will always care with Ronaldo's achievement in any competition of football. He may score more than 30 goals this season.

Yes, the battle for first place in the scoring race is not over - there are many weak teams in the Saudi League and one hattrick can change the situation. But now Ronaldo is still the main contender to be first again.

By the way, have you heard that Benzema, who was subjected to fierce criticism from fans (for weak results), closed his Instagram account? It’s very sad, I think mentally he returned to those times when in Real Madrid he was booed for poor realisation of scoring chances.
Again, we can say that although the Saudi League is considered weak, in order to be “at the level” here, serious efforts must be made and not everyone can do this.

My condolences to Morata who scored a hat-trick but there is no way to rejoice because of the final result.

almost Mbappe feeling from WC final

regarding my performance this round, it is really miserable
didn't pick favorites, expected some turnarounds, but late goal for Barca from penalty spot is what this round was for me, simply unlucky

expected more from Sevilla, didn't saw Girona continuing their strike, and overall had to go back to drawing board and try to catch up a bit

Grin Yes, a very good analogy. And still remembering that final, I constantly laugh because the goalkeeper of the Argentina national team, having conceded 4 goals from Mbappe (including a penalty) from 4 shots, subsequently tried to mock him.

I completely forgot about Seville! Is this team cursed? In the last 5 games they have 4 defeats, and in ten games they have seven defeats (I take all tournaments). The difference in goals does not seem to allow them to be completely included in those who are contending for relegation, but they are really teetering on the brink.
1176  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: why do people always play gambling even if they always lose? on: January 05, 2024, 08:59:31 PM
I always hear stories of friends who always lose playing online gambling. I don't know what his purpose to tell his story to me. even it's clear, his story makes him look stupid.

Besides that, in another place, Many young people around to me still play slot gambling even don't have a job and always lose. I wonder where they get the money for deposits? and why they repeat that?. I don't know what the reason reason that doesn't bother them, they should have given up, and changed the game that makes them profitable. if I always lose in the game, I will change the type of game, example If I always lose on a slot, I will change the type of game like sports betting until my capital is back and try the luck again to the slot.

Grin What I highlighted amuses me the most. The rest has already been discussed - I think it’s quite simple to find the answer to the question of why people gamble even despite constant losses. They (for various reasons) like it.
As for money, firstly, despite the seemingly idle lifestyle, many of them work, even if not in a permanent job. Secondly, many people have parents or other sources of income that allow them not to worry too much about money, especially if they do not have their own family and goals in life.
1177  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: January 05, 2024, 08:52:10 PM
100%!  Grin That's Mourinho - a 1-0 score is enough to win.
By the way, with the score 1-1, the bookmakers assessed the probability of Roma's victory as 1.2 - quite high, taking into account the fact that the score was slippery and there was little time left until the end of the game, and if Cremonese had scored, it is unlikely that Roma would have had time to win back.
Now in the 1/4 we are waiting for the Roman derby Lazio - Roma. I don’t expect anything interesting from these games, most likely it will be something like 1-0, 0-1 in a stubborn, sticky fight.
I can't even count the times when my friend bet on live games with Roma ahead 1-0. He has this tactic, where if Roma scores the first goal, he bets on "under 1.5 goals" for the game, meaning, basically there won't be any more goals and the game will end 1-0 just as it is at that moment.

Sometimes it's under 1.5 goals, sometimes it's roma winning, it's just usually whatever bet means there won't be any more goals, and he has made a lot of money with it. To be fair he has lost a few as well, not like they do manage to do that every single time, sometimes they get 1-0 ahead and still there are goals in the game, either by Roma or another team, but I think it's quite obvious what Mourinho likes to do so it's not a bad bet at all.

Your friend is very practical. I love different types of bets and “tricks” and know Mourinho very well (since I sympathize with him and follow his career in any championship), but for some reason I did not think of making a profit from it. Although in this case the algorithm is obvious. It is clear that such a strategy does not give either a 100 or 90 percent result, but what matters is that the amount of profit from winning bets exceeds the amount of losses from lost bets. Looks like there's value here.

Manchester is a team that are in big problems, they have been in big problems for a very long time now and I am now thinking it's more than coaching problem. Manchester United may also have some internal problems from the owners and this can cause a drop in form as we have seen .
I think a lot of improvement needs to be made and it starts now. Manchester United can't continue going to every season with this problem, they have lost the pedigree of a big team and this has affected their mentality.

United have become a breeding ground for talent long before this season and there has been no talk of any champion mentality for a long time. Maybe it’s just time to come to terms with the fact that others have taken its place and now in order to even just return to the top 4 (stable and not randomly like last season) infrastructure changes are required (the need for which, by the way, Ronaldo spoke about in his famous interview). United has partially changed its owner, maybe we will see some serious changes, but I think they will happen by the summer.
1179  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Europa League 2023/24 Season on: January 05, 2024, 08:37:03 PM
Yeah Leverkusen is a mediocre team, no one expect them can going so far, even though they perform better than Liverpool and Bayern Munich. But the vast majority still believe Bayern Munich will win Bundesliga, just like they won 10 seasons in a row, while Liverpool is playing in Premier League, which more competitive than Bundesliga.

But I believe Leverkusen can win at least one league, I feel they have better chance in Europa League than Bundesliga.

In round-robin tournaments, the difference in the class of teams (which definitely exists between Bayern and Liverpool on the one hand and Bayer Leverkusen on the other) is decisive and practically guarantees victory for the favorite. But in tournaments where there are knockout games, this difference is not decisive because of the randomness - any underdog can give a couple of good games and the difference between these three teams is not so great as to guarantee victory in the playoff games. Therefore, in the Europa League, Bayer is the same contender as Liverpool, albeit with slightly less chances.
1180  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: January 05, 2024, 01:55:41 PM
As far as I remember, the meaning of the restrictions when changing clubs is so that a player who started a tournament in one club cannot play for another team during this tournament (probably to avoid the paradox when a player plays for team A in the group stage, but against team A in the playoffs). Mbappe has not played in the Europa League this season so there are no restrictions on him. By the way, it’s funny, but a paradox could theoretically arise. For example, if a player plays in the Champions League and his team is relegated to the Europa League, and the player himself changes clubs, then in the Europa League playoffs he can play against his former club.
Yes, I also think that these are nothing more than rumors and such a transfer will not take place in the winter.

I did a quick google search and found the following excerpts from the rules:

"46.01: As of the round of 16, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 2 February 2023 (24.00CET) at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.

46.02: Any or all of the players from the above quota of three may have been fielded for another club in the qualifying phase, play-offs or group stage of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Europa Conference League."

This means it is indeed allowed to register three new players that were signed during the winter transfer window regardless of whether they played for another club in the respective tournament already. The only rule is that not more than three players can be registered for those competitions. I think I remember that Chelsea ran into problems some years ago when they signed a lot of players and had to tell some of them they won't get registered for the Champions League.

I think it all depends on how you interpret the words “three new eligible players” - obviously if a player has already played in this tournament this season, then he is no longer new to it. I think therein lies the nuance.
I wanted to see the details (suddenly the rules really changed), but in your article the link to the UEFA website leads to a page where it says that the material has been deleted  Grin
