1221  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: December 27, 2023, 03:32:39 PM
With the current attacking options, PSG will still be able to score that many goals, but when they are in doubt about winning and have difficulty breaking into the opponent's goal, they will be very frustrated, resulting in losing full points. Nice is a team like that and I often criticize the performance of their players because they are only able to score one goal and the most fearful thing is that when their opponents can turn things around then they have to be willing to lose full points.
~

As Sir Alex Ferguson said: attack wins games, defense wins titles. Unfortunately, Nice is too far (like all other Ligue 1 clubs) from PSG, so there is no point in talking about serious rivalry. By the way, if we compare with the others, Nice stands out only in the number of goals conceded, its general indicators are the same as those of other clubs: Nice has a goal difference of +10, Monaco +11, Brest +10, Lille +7, Marseille +7. And PSG stands out separately, with a goal difference of +28  Cheesy

Bookmakers are currently offering anyone who wants to earn a generous  Grin 2 percent for bet on the PSG title:

Paris Saint Germain 1.02

Nice 16.66

As Monaco Fc 33.32

It seems to me that a bank deposit looks more reliable and is comparable in terms of profitability, although there is not much time left until the end of the championship and the bank interest on deposits should be around 5 to be on an equal footing.
1222  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: December 27, 2023, 03:00:25 PM

Looking at the current odds, I am actually quite hesitant if I want to bet on one of the current clubs even though the odds are quite promising.
~

Extremely suspicious quotes. By all measures, Aston Villa should be favorites in this game - they have 11 points more plus their goal difference is +16, while United's is -5 LOL! But it seems that bookmakers, as always, “know something” and you should refrain from betting on this game, although for me a bet on Villa has obvious value.
~

In the end, United won, although after the first half they were losing 0-2 and the odds for their victory were probably around 40-50. As I wrote before the game, everything looked suspicious even before it started. Sometimes I don’t understand what the bookmakers know and why the odds are the way they are (although they look extremely illogical), but it’s good that I understand when to avoid betting. This was exactly the case.

One way or another, United achieved a rousing victory and in my opinion that's a bad thing - it just prolongs the agony. I don’t think that Ten Hag will be able to squeeze anything else out of himself/this team, this result fundamentally does not change anything but prolongs the torment. United's next game will be against Nottingham and on paper United should win (although I wouldn't be surprised by them losing points, which often happens with crisis clubs when they win against strong opponents and then lose points in games with weak ones) and this will give Ten Hag some more time.
1223  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling for fun, is it a lie that we tell ourselves? on: December 27, 2023, 02:45:39 PM
I know for sure that if we take periodic account of how many times that we gamble, maybe weekly, monthly or yearly, we'll find out that the loses are far greater than the winnings, so I sometimes wonder how we can be indulging in something that we lose far more than we gain, in the name of having fun. {1} I know that it's human nature to want to conquer, defeat, control and be the leader, yet we go into gambling knowing that the system doesn't give us a fair advantage of achieving these aims, yet we're happy to go back and likely be defeated again.{2}

Perhaps deep down in our conscience, somewhere that we don't like to listen to, it still tells us the truth that the reason why we're going to gamble is to hopefully win money, not really to have fun. {3}

I know that it's said that you should gamble the amount that you can afford to loose, but will you call it a true fun when you know that there's a higher probability of losing your bet? {4}

1. Your mistake is that you only count the amount of money spent, but in the process of gambling we get entertainment/adrenaline. These things are also worth something if people are willing to pay for them.

2. If you want to compete, win, control and "get what you deserve for your hard work", then you should go into competitive fields like sports, business, career, etc. What does gambling have to do with it? When you come to the library, you’re not indignant that this is not a factory but a warehouse of books? So why do you expect properties from gambling that are not inherent to it?

3. That's part of the fun: the chance to win big tickles your nerves and makes the process more interesting. Plus, people are happy to pay simply for the fact that they will have at least a theoretical opportunity to win big money. We can say that this is a payment for the fact that your dream will be a little more real.

4. Yes. What contradiction do you see here? People spend money on various moronic hobbies without any return, or on hiking in the mountains, etc. People spend money in different ways, this is nothing surprising/new.
1224  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: December 26, 2023, 06:58:27 PM
I know that during boxing day there are a lot of surprise results as the 433 Instagram page had shown some crazy results in this very day in the distant year of 1963 with even 10-2 as a result in a game in what was called First Division then but I never thought to see Newcastle losing at home to Nottingham Forest which for me will remain the biggest surprise result of this week.
~

Yeah. I predicted Newcastle would win 3-0  Grin And at first everything was fine for them, hardly anyone could have imagined that Wood would score a hat-trick with the score 1-0 in favor of Newcastle. Bournemouth's big win is also a surprise - I didn't check the odds, but it seemed to me that Fulham were the favorites before the game.

Still, I will hope that United will again lose points and the position of the new co-owner of the club (as they say, he considers Ten Hag’s dismissal inevitable, the only question is the timing) will strengthen.
As always, the names of supposed successors circulate in rumors (there’s even Ancelloti haha, and Zidane who will never go to England and take over a crisis club), but from reality it’s Potter. And as they say, Radcliffe is betting on him.
I hope the bookmakers are wrong and United will lose today - will there be any options left after this to keep Ten Hag?
1225  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: December 26, 2023, 05:37:47 PM
The Premier League is considered the mecca of football because it is the best league in the world, it is not surprising that top players really want to play there. Big Premier League clubs always compete to bring in top players every time the transfer market opens, club activity is very busy because they are competing to bring in new players. Now that Manchester City has Haaland, he managed to conquer the Premier League last season with achievements with the club and also individually.
~

The Premier League is now a Super League, but only for one country. The income of Premier League clubs is higher (on average) than the income of clubs in other leagues and this gap continues to widen. Last year, the last club in the Premier League received more money for television rights than the first club in Serie A. Inconceivable. The dominance of the Premier League in business is undeniable, but unfortunately it was achieved in very controversial ways (even taking into account the fact that all European football is a murky business).

For a long time, England accepted “investments” from such criminal guys as Abramovich, and in those days when he raised Chelsea to the top there was not even a smell of any FFP. By the way, even later, “elite” clubs obviously violated the FFP but did not suffer any punishment. City have been accused of 115 offenses over several years, but only Everton have been punished for one single offence  Grin
I would like to see how strong the Premier League would be if it weren’t for all this criminal background, and the clubs that violated the rules would be punished as strictly as Juventus (which was sent to Serie B once).

By the way, now clubs (not only from the Premier League, but also from the Premier League) are experiencing additional pressure from the Saudis (who have inflated players’ salaries in just a couple of seasons), let’s see what financial consequences this will lead to. Anyone who ends up outside the Champions League loses a lot of money, but there are only 4 places... This race can become deadly  Roll Eyes

Wow! I won the yellow cap!  Cool

And now, together with casperBGD and buwaytress, we occupy 4-6 places.
I would say that for me this is a good end to the year (and a good opportunity to try again to make x100 out of the free bet), but there is still the last New Year's tour ahead.
By the way, on paper this round will be very predictable, and there will be only one big match: Juventus - Roma. However, here the victory of Juventus should also not raise doubts, but as a sympathizer of Mourinho and all his clubs, I will hope for a surprise.

Unfortunately, Inter's dominance looks undeniable, and all other clubs (except Juventus) look like complete losers. The reigning champions have already fallen below their average results, Milan do not seem to have benefited from the rebuild they have undertaken.
But in the Champions League, Serie A received three representatives in the playoffs, and Milan went to conquer the Europa League, overall not bad.

It's funny that last season I performed well in all polls except Serie A, and this season I perform better in Serie A than in all other polls  Grin It would be better if I continued to fail here, but maintained my position in the remaining polls  Roll Eyes

Wink
Grin

1228  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Features of the worldview of a gambler on: December 24, 2023, 08:36:21 PM
I watched videos about gambling addicts, in which the channel’s hosts interviewed them. I was amazed at how many of them were pathological optimists. More precisely, it’s hard for me to use the word optimism in conjunction with the word pathological, but still. Any loss for them is just a short-term nuisance. Optimism takes over and they play again and again, not paying attention to loans and debts.
At the same time, many openly admit that they are gambling addicts. But they talk about it as a minor detail of their lives. They admit that they are gambling addicts, but this does not make them stop. They, as usual, strive to continue the game.
I have repeatedly encountered the fact that the very concept of risk management is either unfamiliar to them or they do not attach enough serious importance to it.
I would highlight the following features:
1. Pathological optimism.
2. Lack of risk management.
3. The desire to understand some fundamental issues of the game (they talked about this themselves in interviews)
4. Love for the game process itself.
What do you think are the features of the worldview of a gambler?

Oh you!  Grin
I know (I am 99% sure that I know) what country you are from. If you look around, you will be convinced that everything that you have listed in relation to gamblers works perfectly for 90% of the population of that country  Wink The situation has been developing for years (for more than 10 years) from bad to worse, but the majority, instead of making the necessary decisions, continue to remain optimistic and somehow adapt. Risk management and more complex things are not even worth mentioning. It’s funny, but in my opinion, the fact that some gamblers do not understand that the casino has an advantage over them is more understandable than the fact that the majority of the population does not understand how the government robs them through inflation.

As for the fact that gamblers understand that they are gamblers but continue to play, there is no paradox here either - I know that many alcoholics also understand the harmfulness of their habit. In both cases, the point is that people are willing to pay for positive emotions (which they receive in such a perverted way) not just with their money, but also with their health and other risks. People are irrational, you have to accept that.
1229  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: December 24, 2023, 08:26:42 PM
Following some media reports, Barcelona might consider parting ways with Xavi if they end the season without winning any trophies. In my opinion, Xavi should continue as Barca currently lacks quality players and also dealing with numerous injuries. Once the financial situation improves, they can invest in top players and strikers, and Barca will regain its strength.
Definitely Barcelona is facing challenges while simultaneously competing for various trophies this season,
Champions League,
La Liga,
Copa del Rey, and
Spanish Super Cup.

The news is not just about any trophy, but about at least two trophies. It turns out that Xavi is faced with a very difficult task. It is very naive to hope to win La Liga or the Champions League, which means there are two options left where Barcelona must show 100% results - the Spanish Cup and the Super Cup, by the way, the semi-finals of which will be held on January 10th. Barcelona are very lucky that their opponent will be Osasuna, but the second semi-final will be more serious: Real Madrid - Atletico Madrid.

If Barcelona is lucky, Atlético will win, as it seems to me that Barcelona has some chances against them in the final, although I think everyone is waiting for the clasico in the final (probably even the majority of Barcelona fans). But in general, taking into account the fact that the main rivals (rival, to be more precise haha) are still in business in both tournaments, the probability of winning both lies somewhere in the region of 20-25% no more.

In general, such a demand regarding Xavi can be considered as a last warning, because everyone already understands that La Liga is lost, in the Champions League you need too much luck to go high, so Xavi is simply given one last chance. And this chance is not very great, but it exists. Another thing is that I don’t know what will happen to Barcelona when they fire Xavi - it seems that UEFA will now put pressure on the club (because of its position on the Super League) and all the pretexts will be used, and Barcelona has accumulated too many different murky “deeds”. Maybe Xavi is the maximum they can afford in the coming years.

After receiving news regarding Man United planning to recruit a striker in January and some of the names on the list were quite strange. Maybe because the budget given is still limited, I don't think this recruitment will have much of an impact as long as the coach is Erik Ten Hag. I mean even if you recruit famous players, it is very difficult to get out of the position of Man United players who don't work together on the field. Based on the last match alone, it shows the lowest quality of Man United game.  Bruno Fernandes looks tired of seeing Rashford who is lazy about chasing the ball, Antony who usually doesn't play much  of a role in his position, so it's no wonder there are plans to swap Antony with Kubo, a Real Sociedad player and former Madrid player,  who is definitely more useful in helping sharper attacks.

I wonder who is the initiator of these potential transfers. In theory, it shouldn’t be Ten Hag, since everyone has already seen what “brilliant” transfers he makes and what their average effectiveness is. Plus, he has already spent 400 million on transfers in a season and a half and it hardly makes sense to give him the opportunity to throw money at everyone, given the fact that new (and old lol) players degrade under him (what Casemiro has become).

But taking into account the fact that he still hasn’t been fired (I wonder what he has to do to make this happen), this is not the initiative of a new potential coach or the club’s management (who generally don’t care about anything except the endless story with the sale of United). Maybe these news are just rumors and have nothing behind them.

Undecided

1234  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Odds, units advantage | Sportsbook | +93999 units on: December 23, 2023, 10:59:49 PM
^ Yeah, complete alignment in our estimation -- I really like the terms you use, bookmaker greed. Perhaps inaccurate technically but from a different perspective of economics, rational. City looked good from the reports but I still think the unknown factors of teams you've never played, particularly with a team still "immature" in ex-Europe competition, it was a great bet to take regardless of the outcome.

I'll take a break until the weekend but yes, this season's picks will likely see me in the red. I want to offer an excuse that I didn't include some great winners I did have, including specials, etc. But this thread must retain its integrity and count only bets I actually suggested here.

All good things must come to an end, and all strategies fail, but I'm happy to continue showing the true purpose: value. Thank you for following Wink

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that in previous seasons you had a much larger number of bets, so those results can be considered more relevant than the current ones (by the way, I also remember there were long periods of 20+ games without a single victory). When playing with large odds, you need to check many outcomes to know the strength of the strategy, so stop being lazy and register more bets here  Wink Cheesy

As for strategies “in general”, then probably yes, most likely they all die without exception - either the market becomes more efficient (everyone switches to these strategies and they lose their meaning simply for economic reasons) or bookmakers adapt to them. As far as I know, in different periods the value shifted from bets with low odds to bets with high odds and vice versa. I’m afraid that now we live in the conditions of neural networks, big data that probably covers everything that can be covered in information terms and the accuracy of bookmakers is steadily increasing and it is either impossible or very difficult to find value.

But there is always the opportunity to move into such murky areas as live betting, what do you think? If I remember correctly, you were not into this type of betting (at least on an ongoing basis). I follow sporting events mainly in text form, so the quotes are always in sight, and in my opinion everything there is far from accurate on the part of the bookmakers (maybe because they mainly pay attention to the cash flow? = they simply balance between the bets that the crowd makes) .
1235  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: December 23, 2023, 10:42:12 PM
A draw at Anfield is a good result for Arsenal, and it keeps them on the summit for Christmas, that is not bad at all. I knew Arsenal were not going to win the game, that is why my initial prediction was either a Liverpool win or a draw. Having said that, i'd say a draw was a fair result, neither team were at their best and sharing the points feels like a very fair end to the game. The EPL is not decided in December, so this game doesn't determine anything in the title race, there's still so much points to battle for and quite a lot of things are going to happen from now until the end of the season.

A fair result and probably suitable (to keep both teams in the race), the only thing that disappoints me is that City get the opportunity to get closer to the leaders (if they win their game in hand). In fact, today City's two rivals each lost 2 points. It will be good if City also loses points, but everyone still assesses the game with Brandford as a guaranteed 3 points.

United set another record (4 games in a row without scoring a goal), but this does not surprise anyone since West Ham were the favorites before the game (horror, how low United have fallen). What surprised me was Ten Hag’s post-match press conference where he again spoke some delusional nonsense. “We played well until the 72nd minute, we had to take our chances” and blah blah blah. I wonder - does he have such a sense of humor? Moreover, he acts according to the scheme “a joke repeated many times becomes only funnier.” Or are these some kind of magical mantras with which he wants to change reality?

I don’t know what the United management is waiting for, but Ten Hag should already be fired. I can even admit that he is not to blame for anything, and what happened is a confluence of many circumstances, but the harsh truth is that sometimes it turns out that you are responsible for something that does not depend on you. Ten Hag should have accepted responsibility and left Manchester a long time ago.
1236  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does casino streamers have influence in your gambling life? on: December 23, 2023, 10:28:45 PM
I came across on YouTube where a gambling casino social influencer was streaming about a casinos platform.
He literally brought out his phone and was illustrating to the audiences that it is just few steps to take the winning on your games which is making choice of your predictions, choose amount to bet and also indicate his hashtag referral code and click on confirm.
Immediately you get credited directly to your account that just you won.

I just smiled but I want to ask, how many of you guys develops interests on a particular casino platform due to the influence of the casinos streamers?

Either I didn’t understand your words about what this streamer was showing to his audience, or you weren’t watching the stream carefully. Obviously, there is no such scheme as “select a sporting event, choose an outcome, enter a referral code -> get your winnings.” At a minimum, the sporting event itself must take place for bets to be settled, right? Probably they were talking about some kind of bonus or cashback, and I don’t see anything wrong here - casinos often hold similar promotions (even on this forum, information about such promotions appears regularly) and this is a much more profitable waste of advertising budget for gamblers than any promotions where you get nothing but advertising.

As for the effectiveness of advertising from influencers, it is hyper effective. If a person watches a certain blogger, it is natural that he trusts him to some extent and information from such a blogger will at least reach the brain of this consumer (it seems to me that ordinary advertising now works much worse since people are accustomed to living in conditions of information noise and practically no pay attention to it), and if the consumer is already interested in what his favorite blogger is advertising, then he will definitely study what is being advertised.

And yet, trusting influencers is, oddly enough, rational (not always and not in all countries, but in those where the institution of reputation exists) since influencers are not interested in spoiling their image and advertising nonsense. By the way, the rapper Drake advertises the Stake casino (they are partners) and in my opinion this very seriously increases the status and reliability of this project in the eyes of potential consumers.

I have noticed that there are multiple casinos in the crypto space owned by the same person or company. I am curious about the reasons behind creating additional casinos when there is already a running and profitable one.

How does this practice contribute to their business? It seems illogical as it might increase operating expenses without an obvious benefit.

Gamblers, any thoughts on this?

The very first thing that comes to my mind when I think about this is, oddly enough, not fraud, but the creation of different projects under different regulators. You probably noticed, but each casino has a list of countries with which it does not work (it is banned there both from the country and from the casino, that is, using the IP address of such a country you will not even be able to enter this casino).
This is because in each country the gambling requirements/regulations are different, and so different that it is easier to create a separate legal entity (and brand) in order to operate in a specific country. As long as the costs of creating a separate legal entity pay off (the capacity of the national market allows you to receive the necessary profit), such a strategy is reasonable.
But of course, there are disadvantages that cannot be avoided: the promoted brand remains recognizable only within this country and does not have access to the global market. For large projects, this is a very painful negative consequence of such a strategy.

The reason why I watched the Barcelona match was the combined betslip I made. I was thinking before the match that Barcelona would win comfortably. However the mistakes they made in defense disappointed me and caused me to lose money. I don't think that I will place any bet on Barcelona from now on this season. I hope that Napoli can manage to eliminate Barcelona comfortably as I expect. Cheesy

Ouuuh! What a pain )
I bet with a handicap all the time but Barcelona is the worst choice for this in my opinion. They win almost all their games (if they win) with a minimum score and it all looks very doubtful. By the way, now I checked the statistics - for the entire season in all tournaments (including the games with Antwerp), Barcelona was able to win by more than one goal in only three games (the last of which was in mid-September). So a handicap of -2 goals would be appropriate with odds of 3 or even 4, but not 2.05. Even against a clear outsider this is too little, the value was on the other side.

Meanwhile, the standings are returning to normal, Girona expectedly lost points (I guessed the exact score 1-1), and Real Madrid, despite unexpected problems, took three points. It's funny, but here's what I noticed:

Real Madrid 1.27

Girona 5.88

Barcelona Fc 8.33

Atlético Madrid 12.74

It turns out that after a round where Barcelona won and Girona lost 2 points, Barcelona’s quotes fell and Girona rose:

Real Madrid 1.27

Girona 6.86

Barcelona Fc 7.35

Atlético Madrid 12.74

Interesting yes? Real and Atlético are stable, only odds in the Girona-Barcelona pair were redistributed in favor of Girona.
1239  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you think that this is aperfect analogy of how gambling addiction starts? on: December 22, 2023, 07:39:03 PM
If Andreas knows that humans are very emotional creatures and irrational beings despite all the rational evidence against a particular cause or a particular action, then he'd understand that gambling doesn't care about one's rationalization irrespective of how intellectually sound they are. I find this analogy to be quite similar to those who engage in other addictive, self-destructive habits. This analogy fits with many others to explain the how problem gambling starts.

The problem is that knowing such things gives absolutely nothing  Grin For example, you know how a burn signal travels through your nervous system and reaches your brain, indicating danger and the need to take action. Will this make it hurt you less (if compared to a person who does not know such details)? The answer is obvious.
A person is not a logical machine/robot that always makes rational decisions. This applies to all choices - career, sexual selection, family relationships, etc.
I doubt that if various errors of perception and cognitive distortions are taught in particular detail at school, then graduates will become more rational.

The knowledge itself is zilch, it’s nothing - in such complex things, only knowledge with reinforcement is important (roughly speaking, either from your own or from someone else’s experience). And even this is not enough, since people are social creatures and much depends on the culture where a person lives. No matter how much we want the opposite, we are made up of external influences (which act on us throughout our lives without interruption), so some separate facts/knowledge (which we will pay attention to for a short time and that’s all) will not have a particularly strong impact on us.

Manchester City 2:0 Fluminense (HT)

It didn't take the citizens up to 10 minutes and they got one goal in from Alvarez, he chested the ball to an empty post, following a rebound shot from Ake. Manchester City has been very fantastic so far, each time they're with the ball, they're always a threat to the opponent. Fluminense could not stand City's constant pressure and Nino scored an own goal in the 27 mins to put City 2 goals up. Fluminense were only able to produce one shot on target in the first half and has not been really convincing.

Any top European club would look the same compared to Fluminense now. The gap between Europe and the rest of the world at club level is too big. In the entire history of the Club World Cup, the title has been lost by European team only three times: in 2012, Chelsea lost to Corinthians, in 2005, Liverpool lost to Sao Paulo, and in 2000, Real Madrid did not even reach the final.

Separately, it is worth noting that even though Europe missed out on 3 titles, this does not mean that at one time someone was close to the elite of European football from non-European teams. Unfortunately, this tournament has a very low status (probably lower than national cups) and European teams treat the games here as friendly ones.
Thanks to Saudi Arabia, trends are emerging that seem to lead to the fact that in a few years this tournament will make sense as European clubs will lose their hegemony, but at the moment you should not count on this.

I think in the second half, City (taking into account the mistakes made during the game against Crystal Palace) would rather score a couple more goals than allow Fluminense to reduce the gap in the score. At the moment, bookmakers quote the likely scorer of the third goal as:

Manchester City 1.55

None 3.43

Fluminense FC RJ 6.47

It's hard to disagree with them. And it seems to me that there is some value in the odds of 1.55.
