Yep.  A low cost of doing business.  Not even remotely deterrent.

Some fines should be expressed as a fraction of the balance sheet. Only way to deal with real life whales.

Indeed, though I don't live the slaved up life actually!

Hmm doubt. Grin Unless you just mean you're being a bit naughty with the Covid restrictions as depicted there.

Cos we are all slavishly paying taxes even if just on purchases. We (most of us) cede our power to the state all day long by not organising alternativesa nd for example by sitting back and planning how much of their fiat to 'cash out'.

So not actually analogous to slavery after all, as we seem to be willing participants in the game. idk Roll Eyes Tongue

I'm not sure what caused you to go off on a feminist tangent - I love the company of women, especially in pubs after a few drinks. The children in pubs here are usually accompanied by both parents. If fathers or mothers want to go and drink alcohol in a pub, they should leave the little shits with grandparents, friends or child minders/baby-sitters. If they don't have access to such people but still insist on going to the pub to get drunk, maybe they should have thought more carefully before having children.

In defence of the children, being little shits is not their fault. The parents are at fault because they raised them to be little shits. My children are great, and they know to always be aware of other people when in public, because I brain washed them that way, and continue to do so.

Having said that I would never take my kids to the pub either, so I guess you only see the kids from shit parents there.

2 things that have completely fucked the world from the dawn of time. Shitty parents, and mental illness. Fix those problems and this place would be a fucking Utopia.

Absolutely. The kids of such parents deserve some pity more than criticism. It's the parents who are the target of my rant.

As well as fixing the issue of shitty parents and mental illness, I would also add the need for great teachers who want to teach...

I've always thought that teachers should be the highest paid and most respected individuals in a society. This would create high levels of competition to become a teacher, so that only the most able teachers actually become teachers. And "most able" would mean a combination of knowledge in their chosen subject, an incredible ability to actually teach, and an ability to find and nurture the interests and abilities of each individual child, so that they enter careers most beneficial to themselves and society. Imagine each generation being taught by the very best teachers. Imagine the escalating benefits over generations. That society would be so well educated, so many potential geniuses and society changers. It seems that the potential of so many children is often left untapped due to poor education.

I suspect it's the same in many countries, but here teaching seems to be a profession which is looked down upon and is very poorly paid, one which people often enter when they've failed in their career or have no idea what else to do. Here, there's an old saying: "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach" (of course, there are some good teachers who want to teach, but they're a fading species).

I'm sure there are lots of flaws with this idea, but it's interesting to ponder. And governments probably don't want to risk having to control a highly educated population...

There are systematic issues too.

Of course, I am personally bothered by parents who hardly even create boundaries for their kids - but some of them are losing sight of what boundaries to set, too.

On a personal level, each of us can strive to create boundaries for our kids and to teach them those kinds of values, but what can you do about other people's kids and the widespread failures... I am just thinking that there is only so much that can be done.... not trying to give excuses for the parents who bring kids to bars like that, but if they do of course, you might be able to say something to the parents.. but what you say might not sink in.. and I am not saying that it is fruitless to assert your views.. because asserting such views might cause some parents (who are receptive to taking actions and improving the lives of their children) to rethink if there might be places that they might be able to leave their children while they go to the bar.. and the kids do not need to go on every vacation with the parents, either... but hey..lots of spoiled kids out there... that's for sure.

I guess Mr. Carpenter was way ahead of the times. Unreal.  Roll Eyes

I'm sure I must have watched (part of) this movie, but I just can't remember anything about it right now...

Already downloading downloaded the remastered version. Will watch it tonight.

I'm a big fan or Orwellian-type movies. Should watch Soylent Green one more time. Watched it 1st time when I was a little child (parents didn't care much about movie ratings), and it has affected me in certain ways...

You needed more structure in your life as a kiddie, AlcoHoDL?

My parents screwed up quite a bit too, but whachagonnado?

**LOTTA CAPSTYPINGS***
Happy Saturday!

Just to be clear, you seem to be stating that a future where transaction fees being $100, $1000 or even more per on-chain tx is a distinct possibility?

That as a possibility is implicit in my thoughts, I'd say, yes.

OK, so here's the relevant followup question. When average tx fees are $1000, what is the typical profile of a person willing to run a non-mining validator? Let's start simple on this - how many tx per year might the average such person make?

It could be just one or two, but sure it won't be peanuts. Running a node still makes sense in such a case.

Do your own fucking due diligence, people, instead of being a shill for a political party that doesn't even exist in your own country.

It's been ages since I watched that film, but I remember clearly the bottom-line, which has nothing to do with Alex Jones, or any political party in the US.

You missed the point I was making in that the moral of the film was co-opted by anti-maskers. The film also has nothing to do with wearing a mask. Its being politicized in a way the filmmaker never intended, for the sake of making an edgy meme which just happens to represent a component of the ideology of a political platform in the U.S.

Surely you've seen this by now or something like it:

So what was going on back in 1918? Big brother trying to force conformity on the masses for the purposes of ushering in a new world order?

@nutildah
Of course I watched it. It was not my intention to promote any sort of propaganda (which I was not even aware of). Having said that, everything sparked from v8's warning sign posted a few pages back.

To me the stay home mantra is kind of similar to another form of consume, obey, conform.

I will translate it for the times:
Do smart working from home (stay home)
Keep moving the economy (consume and spend your money)
Keep social distancing (conform).

Isn't it sad? Roll Eyes

So long as you don't actually believe that meme was a real scene from the movie, which is what I feared.

Perhaps we're just trying to globally combat a pandemic by encouraging proper hygiene until it has subsided? Or is that just way too looney tunes of a conspiracy?

Moved to a separate thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5277804.new#new

Hi guys, I hope your bitcoin hangout helps me with one question.

I am writing a guide for a event related to the bitcointalk community (the idea of the annual Crypto Community Award),
which will include 20 nominations with the possibility of voting.

For example: Antihero (A contender for maximum hostility from members of the forum) or / Scandal of the year / Event of the year / and so on. When I finish, I will be happy to discuss possible additions and will not refuse help with moderating the Crypto Award. In the meantime, I want to know your opinion on this idea.

Quote from: Vod
I would like a title that recognizes my contribution as being worth more than giving stolen coins to others (apologies to the honest donators who don't go around calling attention to their donation).  I think a good title would be Inventor.  Short, simple - I didn't give financial value a time the forum needed it, but I gave other value - the same kind the forum itself does to a community.  So I will lock this topic and hopefully wake up one day with a custom title.  Smiley
After the announcement of the results, it would not be difficult for theymos to add the winners their well-deserved titles, for example (Moderator of the Year, Antihero, Guru, etc.).

Vod would be happy to get a headline describing his contribution or, for example, the Vod/OG scandal of the year. Perhaps Lauda will become an anti-hero due to thousands of feedback messages, and The Pharmacist will be a Bitcointalk guru.

best regards

Uh yeah....I'm the furthest thing from a bitcoin guru that you could possibly find, so I don't know how my name got thrown into the mix.  Even if you put my name in for a vote, it would be a waste of your keyboard strokes--so don't bother.

The rest of the idea sounds fine to me, except I'm not sure Theymos would put his seal of approval on such an award system.

Don't know what thread you're referring to, but I believe you.  This doesn't sound like something Theymos would get behind.  Or in front of.  Or anywhere near.  But life is full of surprises, so we'll see.
