I noticed every once in a while (like the last block) there will be almost 10BTC worth of transfer fees! I think it's awesome but does anyone know why that happens? a typo when someone did a transfer? or are people just being very nice to miners Tongue

The transaction that really fattened up that block was this one:
http://blockchain.info/tx/4b596c0fde12b98bad2cc8bb8d5b985ab3fdd7b986c49b231d85d7751dad4b40

It had a 9 BTC transaction fee associated with it.

Weather cut the power on my machine while I'm at work. Happened yesterday aswell. Will have to wait until day's end to restart   Sad

Might be worth getting a UPS - will keep you up for half an hour or so - maybe enough to see you through short outages...

I must have gone through a dozen of these. Different brands, different models. My conclusion: They're alwarys dead by the time you need them. Apparently we just haven't gotten that far along with battery technology to make a reliable backup unit. The only advancement they do is to make the alarm more annoying and more difficult to deactivate. Either that or the guys at the supply depot recognise my adress and they're like:
"This guys again! Hey Joe, lets go find him another reject unit."

Go to BIOS. Setup power on if the power is lost. Don't set it up to last state. Set it to power on. I have all my machines setup this way. But it might heppen that you don't have this option.

Slush, I think there was a problem calculating block rewards for block 237396.   I only got a reward of 0.00003098 and it should have been in the range of 0.004 or greater..   Here are my rewards and shares for the last 4 blocks:

#           Block found at           Duration   Total shares   Your shares     Your BTC reward   Block #   Block value            Validity
18153   2013-05-22 19:33:54   2:16:21   18220901           1570             0.00501036           237404   25.42343650    100 confirmations left
18152   2013-05-22 17:17:33   3:04:10   24434822           4918             0.00003098           237396   25.10420001    92 confirmations left
18151   2013-05-22 14:13:23   0:16:44   2234190           530             0.00618735           237373   25.20905000    69 confirmations left
18150   2013-05-22 13:56:39   1:26:03   11420206           1855             0.00462750           237371   25.29270000    67 confirmations left

my own calculations based on my shares vs total shares shows the reward should have been much greater for that block.  Not sure what happened, can you take a look when you have a chance?

Well your shares are looking off. It seems like you had a problem at the end of a block 18152 and start of a block 18153. For 18152 you should have about 6360 shares and for 18153 you should have 4770. So it is clear what happened. You stop mining or you had connection problems. You do know how scoring system works right? If not look back it is explained(last time) from page 429 on. If you have additional questions let me know.

EDIT: End of page 429

And because of my lack of cognitive processing it took about 5 pages to get me to understand. So if you cant get it from that please ask more questions. Basically take the phase of the mood at 3pm then put in a constant for the size of your best friend's cat. divide that by the number of people in your home town during the year of your mothers birth. now multiply that all by your hash rate, divide by the total number of points and then multiply that by the total reward minus 2%. It really is that simple.  Shocked

Before anyone yells at me it's a joke and I'm picking on myself.

And don't forget to consider the phase of the moon! Include also other important factors such as the weather in Alaska and whether the round ends on a high or low tide. Cheesy

Come on! I've explained it a thousand times.

It's the exponential of the [phase of the moon divided by the weight of the cat] * [the number of times your cat jumped on your miner (because it's warm) per hour] multiplied by your hashrate divided by the speed of light divided by the pool's hashrate * 0.98

There's absolutely nothing about the number of people in your home town in that calculation, I have no idea where you picked that up.

Wait an old lady down the road on the wiki said that the cat had to be neutered and that the hometown counted as long as you looked at the moon at 3pm and took three tabs of acid just before spilling your pop on the cat. I know I might be a newb but I distinctly remember during my last psychotic break that Zaphod told me that as long as i had my towel I got all the coins.

This is about to get totally out of controll isn't it.  Roll Eyes

Dude, there's no place for drugs in math. Being psychotic is not such a problem, but even so what you're saying is just plain cray-cray.

Why the hell would neutering your cat matter? Makes absolutely no sense.

About to? How long is this thread, again? Wink
