does a miner have to be mining at slush's for his unconfirmed reward amount to confirm?  thanks

no, you just have to wait until the block that you took part of has been confirmed. you can see how far the confirmations are by going on "statistics" in your slush interface.

on the bottom right you'll see the last blocks, what reward you got out of them and how many confirmations are still needed to fully verify the block. once "your" blocks reach 0 confirmations, your earned BTC are "confirmed" in your slush account

Do any of you ever shutdown your computer/mining equipment so that it has a day or so to rest?  I have been running my laptop with the screen down and off for a few days now along with the one antiminer that I have.  Just wondering if it is a good idea to give it some down time and if so how long and how often?

Turning your computer on and off for no reason causes thermal stress. Computers aren't like people (mostly) and don't need breaks, but heating them and cooling them can cause damage. Monitors though should be off when they're not needed since they wear out more from use than heating/cooling cycles.

Whats your point exactly ?

You get the same pay back over time as a place where they clear them fast because you get a higher payout from each block.

There is no advantage to clearing them faster. All that happens is you get small amount of payout more often.

The same comes from it over all so its not really dwelling on.

Good cooling and clean fans/heatsinks is the best medicine for 24/7 running.

I have 3 cubes, 3 blades (2 OC'd) and 35 USB block eruptors on a 49 port hub. The blades and USB eruptors are spot on in reported hash rate all the time every time.
My 3 cubes are reporting about 20% less then actual all the time every time (80gh), the cubes and blades are powered by 2 HX850's. I have tried different ways of powering them and networking them.
My first cube ran at 38 solid, once I added the other 2 I get up to 32 with a cold start up but they always fall back to 28 after a few hours.
I am wondering if I am overloading the proxy that is running on an Intel Atom desktop that is also running BFGminer for the USB's , CPU usage is only 40-50%.

I ask the hive for any suggestion I could try.

"Doh" is right.
Of the last thirty rounds completed (to 21620), twenty took less than four hours.
Fourteen of these took less than two hours.
Only five of the thirty fell in your "mostly 4 - 6 hour" range.
Any more dodgy stats you would like to share with us?

That's why at some point I'm thinking about building a PC for scrypt mining so I can use one of the pools that convert for me and then plugging up ASIC to the USB ports.  All 4 cards wing water cooled.  If I get one of the boards made for mining with the 6 slots may do that.  It will give me a chance to play with water cooling before I decide to do so on the PC that I have for gaming.  Tax return is going to be used for a new card for it.  Holding out till this rumored Titan 2 and 790 from nVidia come out.  I know nVidia isn't good for mining, but I don't plan on using that card or even that PC for it.  Next years tax return may go to building a mining rig.

I just got my USB fan in today and I'm expecting my other 4 Antminer U1s some time in the next few days.  I plugged up the fan and it looks like I might have a slight issue.  I thought I would be able to bend it and it stay in place however it wont so the spots that I thought I would put it at wont work.  The USB hub I have is this one:  http://www.microcenter.com/product/360454/7-Port_USB_20_Hub_with_Power_Adapter.  I thought I could put the fan in on one of the 2 ports at the end.  I'm thinking now what I will do is run 4 U1s in front of the fan and one on one of the ports at the end.  That is if I don't get any hardware issues from running 5 and a fan on the hub.  The one that the fan is cooling now has dropped a lot in temperature. 

When I plug the others in will I have to restart bfgminer or change the line in the cmd file I made?

how strong is your network connection?

I really am thankful the reply.
I have WOW! as a service provider at 20 down 1 up and like 30 ping. Gigabit switch and linksys G router.
My cubes are 1 worker, my blades are another and USB's are my 3rd worker.

I did notice when we completed the last round my hash rate on the stats page went up to almost what it should be.
Funny how only after I posted here my reported hash are looking better, been at 80 for two weeks now its believable at 105.
Now if only get these cubes back up to around 38 each...
