Everyone is following XMR as well. Some strategies don't involve shouting.

Everyone is following XMR as well Grin but Monero community following DASH Grin I suggest that you to sell your moneros coz it ll go down under the 100k soon. and then it may pump again.

Just yesterday I was guest lecturing in an investing course, about how speculation (buying and selling) is the worst possible investment strategy. Only the best make money - and why take risks as I have performed reasonably well with my style.

Intent is to minimize the total loss probability by investing to assets with weak intercorrelation in total loss probability and an overall different risk profile. When the constraints concerning capital preservation in all possible scenarios (including refugee, prison, death, ...) are fulfilled, the rest is invested using Venture Capital method to assets that offer lucrative positive Expected Value, at a major (50-90%) risk of losing the investment. Kelly's formula dictates the maximum bet to each of these. Liquidity is taken into account as well. Taxes are minimized with a multinational corporate structure. The corporations also occasionally do some business or work or at minimum accept commissions for my assignments. Just today closed a 5-figure commission from a movie company who wanted to use my castle for filming.

(a lot of big fancy words)

Or, the easy way: find assets that have long term potential and are heavily undervalued....  Buy them, secure them, and don't sell them until you have made a significant profit.

Of course, this approach depends on you knowing why things like the cuecat won't be mass adopted and Netflix streaming will.

Your strategy differs from rpietila's because you've exceeded the maximum bet on cryptocurrencies. You've put everything you have in one investment with a large chance of failure.

If you just did not understand, hey perhaps it was not just luck that I got wealthy and so many did not  Cheesy

Your strategy differs from rpietila's because you've exceeded the maximum bet on cryptocurrencies. You've put everything you have in one investment with a large chance of failure.

To be fair, the sum of my assets is five digits (in USD), not seven or eight.  I'm sure I'll be more cautious when I have a large army to wield instead of just a small tactical force.

Mel Gibson did not beat the British in Braveheart 2: MURICA because he conservatively managed his forces.  He used his mobility to swing into positions a larger force would never dream of, and as a result scored massive victories against much larger units.

My five figures is very similar.  I can move fairly quickly into a new asset without causing the tsunami that Risto would if he tried to move at the same (relative) pace.

As always, I defer to Agar.io.   The blob starts small and is advised not to be too risky while it's young...  But if it doesn't eventually make some kind of move, the larger forces will eventually gobble it up.  Once you are in control of one of those larger blobs, you will have to move slower and be more cautious, but I'm not there yet.

Really, master Agar.io and you will master poker, investing, and war.  Risto is a big ass blob, taking reasonable risks and I'm a medium sized one making calculated advances trying to increase my size.  It bodes well that both of us seem to be focused on the same advantageous opportunities while not being in direct competition (due to being of different magnitudes).

Of course, even Risto must be cautious.  The biggest blob on the board is the Federal Reserve, and when it moves it might do so at a glacial pace, but the entire game board must take notice or be crushed against the wall.  Also, pay attention to how most of the reigns of large blobs end in that game...  Rarely do they shrivel away to nothing - usually they collapse in a spectacular explosion that sees many competing entities gobbling up the now exposed value (just like how the USSR and other empires fell).

My portfolio actually has positive beta with all persecution directed towards me. In the year following the seizure of "all" my assets by Finnish goons, I managed to no less than 10x the value of my portfolio, because - you know - in my opinion it just makes sense to play so that when they hit you -5, you get +50...

The design is already done, see following link for some sneak peaks -> http://imgur.com/a/ERheR

So basically only libraryzing has to be done in order to wire up and release the GUI. The design goals can give you a bit of a skewed view, because a lot of stuff is in front of the GUI on the list. However, most of that stuff doesn't necessarily need to be finished before the GUI can be released.

P.S. More about "libraryzing" -> https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/3ltrxt/its_happening_stepbystep_every_month_since_i/cv9hix0

Out of curiosity, a technical question; would it be easy to migrate to the new version with/without GUI? You've mentioned earlier that a beta is already floating around but never got the chance to run it myself successfully (MoneroX GUI client crashed on me). I thought starting it from scratch with a new wallet and transfer the funds there, but I just dropped it since it's now working just fine... Would you recommend a migration or a brand new wallet/database?

Your wallet can probably be directly transferred over (but I never used the GUIs). I think you can just download the new binaries and run bitmonerod until it's synced up, and copy the wallet files to wherever you want to run the new simplewallet from. Syncing on the new version is often nearly as fast as converting the existing chain and usually less headache.

If for some reason your wallet can't be transferred over, you should be able to recreate it from its seed with the new simplewallet.

The beta works well for me.  Its super fast synching and uses very little ram, as little as 100mb I believe.

My working set is presently ~475 MB, but Private is only 42,400 KB (the number that shows up in Task Manager).

Thanks for the prompt answers, from all of you guys. Very much appreciated. I've been away for a couple of days due to a national celebration here. Will try tomorrow on another computer - this VM that I now store my XMRs can't handle a second DB within the same HDD file.

Cheers.

You'll probably need to remove the old blockchain file before syncing then, and in the nearish future probably add more hard drive space if you're almost out.

Also, this conversation should probably be in the main thread, since it's not speculation. Smiley

All this talk of price suppression.  After not being able to leave the 130s we just had a spike to 0.001539 after strong buys throughout the day.

This is after my final bid got filled while I slept last night Smiley

Its good. I can only speculate that ppl are more interested in crypto now, as bitcoin making headlines again. Also, you got  Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA) passed yesterday, which could re-ignite interest in protecting ones privacy, including finanical privacy. After all, bitcoin is not very private and anonymous (http://www.bitcoinisnotanonymous.com/) which can be concern for privacy oriented bitcoiners.

I've just added USD and EUR weighted average stats for the XMR price to: http://vnno2t46wi42jgm7jdyf75obc2zbm3jizel6gvawaaj4mzmkgvoa.b32.i2p.xyz/
XMR price is ~ 0.51$ last year. The exception seems to be the last month with weighted average price of ~0.4$.

Hash rate used to be about 25% higher than it is now Sad

Why would hash rate decrease that much? Is there another PoW coin with high profitability right now or something?

there are a couple. u can follow what is hot in sp_'s thread. that band of miners / devs seem to hop here and there. that and mining monero is barely profitable right now. it is, but barely.
