77% of pool hashrate are already over stratum, which means that only 23% of miners are mining for NMC. That means namecoin reward are going to be lower and loweer...

so wouldn't it be better (from the miner's point of view) to stay on getwork rather than switching to stratum? NMC is maybe not much value, but probably more than tx fees, isn't it?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. Header-only clients like MultiBit trust that the majority of mining power is honest for the purposes of enforcing network rules such as the 21 million BTC limit. Full clients do not trust miners in this way.

Tx fees have much higher value than collected namecoins. I don't think there's any motivation to stay on getwork. I'm also going to switch down getwork interface in few months, because stratum infrastructure is already pretty mature and there's no technical reason to keep getwork alive.

for all of you that think namecoins are worthless, i would love to have them, use   NATBojEf4QC5kgyYc2jNvJ8Sq484UpqgYB  as your deposit address in the pool website.  No sense in them going to waste.

I recenty switched from api.bitcoin.cz:8332 to stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 using cgminer
and noticed that namecoin reward dropped to "none". Coincidence?

77% of pool hashrate are already over stratum, which means that only 23% of miners are mining for NMC. That means namecoin reward are going to be lower and loweer...

77%?!  And here I am getting happy when users on Stratum have speed exceeding 50% (which only happens once in a blue moon).

LOL, I'm being pretty aggressive in Stratum propagation. Getwork users have pretty annoying message on website profile, thankfully lot of them really update after they noticed it.

I'm not against Namecoin, I just see the project dead, there's no development in last year, documentation is non-existing, merged mining patches obsolete (most recent official toolchain is for bitcoin 0.3.24!).

In these days I'm migrating pool to new servers and I'll drop old pool core completely (I won't install it to new servers at all), so NMC will be completely disabled in few days. But if everything will run smoothly, I'll dig into merged mining and if there won't be any real issue, I'll try to set up NMC mining again.

I have a nice annoying message to anybody that hasn't used Stratum in the last 2 weeks.  They just ignore it.  I guess I can make the font size increase by 1% per day ;p.

Maybe strobe the message as well, increasing the intensity and frequency of the strobes too. And a target and a message that you can win an ipad just by hitting the target? That sort of ad always grabs my attention (perhaps by driving me blind with rage, but it does get my attention).

I think I might turn stratum back off to get more namecoins actually, or go to a pool that will still be offering them merged mining is still worth while becuase there is still a market for namecoins

Dear god, I can't imagine how much whining I'd hear if I tried to get people to move to Stratum like that... I should try it the next time I'm feeling sadistic.

But i think the mining proxy will connect to your pool with one worker account then, dont it?

No, it proxies usernames as well.

Quote
Cant you just raise the allowed connections to 25? (-;

There's really no reason, 20+ workers is already pretty big operation and using Stratum proxy is logical step. It optimizes network usage.

Thank you Slush thats working.

But now i have got another problem with your mining proxy:
When my internet connection at night is reconnecting mining proxy is loosing connection, cant give work to my bfgminers and bfgminers are trying so switch to my backup pools. Thats logic.
But when the internet connection ist back, bfgminers are locking for the proxy and find him still dead, so they continue working at the backup pools.
Only a restart of the bfgminers helps here, the they can connect to the proxy again.
Do you know why they dont do this without restarting?

Bitcoin 01 was manualy restarted and connected to the mining proxy, Bitcoin 02 was not resarted and still said MiningProxy is dead.

In that case, temporarily reduce the fee to stratum instead?

Today it is two years since the pool found it's first block :-).

It was this block, and the difficulty in these times was 12252. Oh, how I miss these days!
