We've now exceeded both the time and number of shares of the last extra-long round. Looks like we get to set a record without an outage as cause.

Oh, and thanks, slush!

What would really be bad is if, after all this, it comes up invalid.  Shocked

yeah, it really looks like the pool luck is broken.  At least the 24hr number is.  There's no way that can be right...

One good thing about a streak of bad luck like this as that some people bail on the pool after a while, which brings the pool hash rate down, which in turn brings my block rewards up.

I know it has a lot to do with luck, but I find that the lower the pool hash rate is, the better I tend to do overall...

Pool luck is based on time of completed blocks only... Doesn't count blocks that aren't finished yet, so expect it to dive as soon as our monster block is complete (if ever, lol)

I do think it should take the current block into account if it takes over 2 or 3 hours, maybe a feature for the future?

But but but...it's all relative. You still make the same in the end regardless of what the pool hashrate is, it's just the rate at which the earnings come in that varies. It's a psychological thing. Personally I prefer a moderately high hashrate so variance is not so cruel. But after seeing 14+ hour blocks I can see why so many miners snowball into the deep bit...

Say what? Have you considered how high your earnings per round would have to be to make up for lost earnings due to an 11 hour block?

Anyone else having trouble connecting to the pool?
I'm trying to connect with guiminer 2011-08-24.
I've created an account at the pool's site, and registered a worker.
I edited the bitcoin.conf file to look like this:
rpcuser={Random user name}   <-Should this be the fill name of my worker, as displayed on the site?)
rpcpassword= {random password}
rpcport=8332
rpcconnect=http://api.bitcoin.cz:8332

I've also tried omitting those last 2 lines and replacing them with "server=1" as per another guide I read somewhere.
Neither seems to work.

Somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong here!

poclbm/GUI miner is affected by serious bug. If your miner is crashing on 'unexpected error' message, please follow miner forums for the newest versions.

Use CGMiner, Phoenix or DiabloMiner...

Note: Guiminer v2011-07-01 remains working fine for me. My first thing to try when I had problems with v2011-08-24 was to drop back a version since I had on and off problems with 08-24 giving me an error message when closing out. 07-01 has been running very cleanly and with low stale/invalids (under 0.5% today and last night I had an 1800 share session with 1 stale/invalid). so, you may try dropping back to this version and see if it fixes your issue also.

Aside from that, did you input that data into your Guiminer program or the bitcoin.conf? You input the data directly into Guiminer when using it. Create a tab in it for slush's pool (it is one of the default options in there) then fill in username and password (make sure to go to my account on Slush's page first and put in a login suffix and password). The username is your username.loginsuffix (username then a '.' then your chosen login suffix) and then input your password you chose in "my account" into Guiminer as well. Choose your device and test it. You can search online for the best extra flags to use with your graphics card and input those as well. That should get you up and running.

Supporting bitcoin as best I can with 1. mining, 2. buying with bitcoin, 3. selling (or trying to) for bitcoin. If you make a donation to:  1MahzUUEYJrZ4VbPRm2h5itGZKEguGVZK1  I'll get it into circulation.

That's what I was doing wrong, thanks!
Got it all put into guiminer correctly, and it's working fine now. Smiley
