Do you attribute the significant decrease in mining power to be a result of the issues?

I think it is partly because of reward halving and partly because of the various issues that caused an unstable service lately. Of course miner bugs related to being disconnected by the server makes the consequences of a server failure more serious as it can cause miners to bug out as well. I am working on server stability and I am sure miner authors are working on their issues.

This is just ridiculous. The top pools won't pay them so they hammer the next tier pools instead. Have they ransomed you yet? This has gotten beyond a joke. It's now threatening mining infrastructure. Every college holiday, same thing.

No, I haven't received anything.

Last time there was an extortion email sent through the contact form on the website just before the attack started. Nothing this time.

Maybe Im just naive, but what would a person/group gain from DDoSing a pool like this? I would think most miners have a backup pool in place and there for it does not affect the network hashrate. The pool OP would be the only one really hurting as far as I can tell.

Who is using the bitminter client has no backup pool though (it would be nice to have it). I found that it was down after a while when I perceived a lower temp in my room.

I use .bat files to launch cg-miner.
On my desktop is one .bat for Bitminter and one .bat for Slush.
If one pool goes down i exit the current cg-miner script and run the other.
I might have to automate this on a scheduled task as this is happening a little to often now.

You can also add more Pools to your cgminer like I do.
In cgminer use [P]ool and then [A]dd the "back up" pool.
Use failover in the Pools mining strategy to mine at the backup pool when the main pool is down.

NEED help with getting a backup pool. can  some one explain to me what to do to get one.
Suppose you wanted to set BitMinter as your primary pool and BTC Guild as your secondary.  If you were mining with 4 BFL Singles on COM3, COM4, COM5, and COM6, you could run a command like the following to accomplish your goal using CGMiner.

cgminer-fpgaonly.exe -o http://mint.bitminter.com:8332 -u YourUsername_WorkerName -p WorkerPassword -o mergedmining.btcguild.com:8332 -u YourUsername_WorkerName -p -1 -S \\.\COM3 -S \\.\COM4 -S \\.\COM5 -S \\.\COM6

The "-p -1" where the worker password is supposed to be on the secondary pool is to denote a null password, as I couldn't find any way to create worker passwords on BTC Guild.  If you need help using video cards, I'm sure there are others on the forum who can assist, but I've never use CGMiner with anything BFL products.

Good luck!

Looks like we may be down a while. Also, I am looking for a new hosting provider, if anyone knows one that deals well with ddos attacks.

If anyone has difficulties setting up mining on a different pool while we are down, feel free to ask here, or in the newbie section at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=22432.0 (if you have not been using bitcointalk before you are only allowed to post in the newbie section).
