No one can answer you that. It depends on what kind of a return you can get from other investments. 30 days from now there will be many coins with much better ROI but do you know what they are?

There is a third option. Sometimes, doing nothing is the most prudent course of action, but you'll have to make up your own mind what to do.

Monero at 50 cents?

Beep, beep, beep!  Back up the largest truck you can afford to lose.

They are only that cheap because botnets or claymore or whatever (SPV mining?  Is it true?) constantly dump redistribute healthy amounts into the market.  Nobody (not even DASHtards) dares to short XMR, even at loan rates flirting with zero.

Holders have little interest in selling under the $5 ATM and love nom-nomming up more at 2 for $1.   Cool

I think Monero at .01 in the next 12 months is possible.

I doubt it with the botnets dumping. Botnets are a 2 edged sword, One they secure the network and two they dump. I don't see why they don't hold. Even criminals want profit, they seem to be very shortsighted. But no one ever said criminals were smart. Smiley

Another extremely detrimental effect they have is making competitors that actually have overhead unable to compete and therefor the network cannot grow. This should probably be addressed but I don't see how until the emissions are extremely low. But then again If the coin gets adopted and skyrockets in some (I wonder where) market then these issues should become less significant.

First bold: They don't hold because that could drive prices up. You drive prices up you incentivize more mining, or ( gasp ) the development of ASICS and dilute your own hashrate. I would speculate that this is a unique whale pod, whereas the old bitcoin money is another whale pod.

Second bold: One way to address this is to increase the efficiency of GPU mining. I've been trying to organize a bounty to this end - the only GPU miners for Monero are over a year old at this point, with no publicly available advancements. If you want to see the network hashrate increase, decrease the amount of Monero funneling to network operators, increase the amount of monero going to miners that have overhead (the ones that are more likely to hold), and subsequently drive the price up - you should contribute to this bounty. Its not like these efforts would decrease the profits of the network operators (due to the possibility of price increases)

The bounty has floated around various threads, here's a good summary:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=656841.msg11772611#msg11772611

I also put it on the getmonero forum to try and get it in the forum funding system:

https://forum.getmonero.org/6/ideas/323/open-source-gpu-mining-software-hashrate-increase-fund-bounty-hire-a-dev-whatever

This is possible, and I suspect there is an element of truth to it; however this can be a dangerous game for the whales in question. I must say the current very low volume after a significant correction is very indicative of this kind of behavior.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. I would guess they will start holding at some tipping point in the emissions curve.

Yes, I've noticed and applaud your efforts but doubt there will be substantial gains found again. AFA donating, I have not held XMR for months, I stated when I sold and broke even and have not decided when if ever to enter again. As has been stated a few posts earlier "Not buying or selling at this timeis an option". I continue to monitor this thread as I like the coins goals and respect the Devs. I'm sure I'll buy in again but not like last time just for "Fuck you BCX" reasons. Smiley

i find blocks more frequently now with my desktop (4c @ 4ghz -t 3). is monero really worth that much with only 10 mhs backing it? everytime i find a block i doubt it somehow.
still it looks to me like the hashrate is bottoming out too.

i keep going, still sometimes i think i should invest small part of what i normally invest into mining, maybe buy 1 or 2 new gtx 980 or so (i also game, not a lot but when i do i very enjoy good graphics too) right now i only have a 560 ti and it does not fit my gaming needs anymore, so it would be a deal to consider. what hinders me with gpu is that i can not solo mine (or can i?) i seem to have good luck and i am willing to pay some % of my eranings to be a solo node too. i just want the network to grow (healthy) and i am looking for the cheapest way to do so

YES!!!!! Though 750 ti is the best... the nvidia miner was created on this (in tsivs post you can see this). For some reason the hashrwate doesn't scale proportionally with the price of the card.

Just move to a small pool.

And yes you can solo mine... its just technical. You set up your own pool.

On the other hand, the fiat exchanges are coming online soon, and this will cause upside pressure.

Which fiat exchange are you talking about?

I personally know of 3 plans, one of which is this month, second one is during summer, third is later this year. All by reputable people that I know (separate people in each Wink ) In addition I am starting a XMR fund myself but I am legendary slow in action so don't buy just yet based on this alone  Grin

The reason why this is upwards pressure is that non-BTC owners (99% of the investor population) have not been able to invest before, but now they can.

There is also an other reason for Monero price to up.

Here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monero_(cryptocurrency)#/media/File:Monero_coin_supply_and_inflation_over_time.png
the dark blue line is the Monero emission curve. At the end of 2015 Monero emission starts to slowig slightly. At the end of 2017 emission is slowing quite much.

So now Monero price seems to be stable by balanced supply and demand. When supply-side becomes smaller by slowing emission, price is expected to get higher, if the demand remains at least on the level it is today.

I don't like to wander OT,  so I will tie this back...

Since I mentioned gbpjpy here and at least one person acted, I should say (here) that if you sold as advised at 195, it would not be premature to start buying here at 189.  If you did not, then it would be premature, although I can't give you a precise level a.t.m., as the boarding doors are closing...

The tie-back: If you are out of the trade, it would be clever to roll some of the gains ( 25-50% ) back into XMR in the 0.50 USD neighborhood.

Why do I drop these pearls here?  Because making XMR afficionados wealthier serves my own interests, at no personal cost -- good luck moving major FX markets against me;)

Do you see XMR getting a slingshot effect from the current rally of 1st gen altcoins (LTC/NMC/PPC etc)?

Shorting now might be a good bet also as there is buying liquidity above 0.0019...
However, if you choose to short, the closing should not take place in the same day unless the price hasn't adjusted to the new lower reality.
Chartwise the charts look pretty weak. There is also pretty little willingness to buy coins above the current level, even the current level might risk some of the members in the community bagholders and therefore they may not be interested in buying as the risk of dump is growing due to more and more saturated whales.
I doubt Risto will be willing to buy your Moneros all the way to the bottom of the sea.
