I have a noob question; I have got BFGminer running on the stratum server. I am a windows user, not a command line person in any way, I notice there is zero hash rate on website counter, ie under another attack. But my command line window show My workers are sending/receiving work packets. Am I mining? Do you have an optimum setting suggestion for BFGminer setup?
I will be helping Bitminters hashrate as soon as I get my ASCI rigs. We must think about keeping the bitcoin community strong and diversified. there is a piece of the mining pie for everyone; we can't let one pool/group have monopoly control of mining.

90% of the time, if your miner is submitting shares, they are being counted even if the website front end may be down. I say 90 because there may be rare circumstances when that's not the case but Dr. will have to chime in on that. |

I see the current hash rate is half what it was a couple of days ago. I think its important for the pool to protect against the intermittent DDOS otherwise within a short while there'll be no one left. Which would be a shame.
What is the motive for the DDOS you think ? Another pool need more ?

It's been bad. Everytime I see the hash rate goes up, I point my miner at the pool and then in moments it goes to 0 again and I get connection issues.

I'm kinda sad to admit I've moved all my miners to BTCG as a primary until the issues with BitMinter get resolved  Things have been too chaotic over the last week, and today was the worst I think I've ever seen Feel bad for Doc |

Cgminer has always confused me. I know very little about coding. Do you know of any very simple and very basic guides to Cgminer. More detailed then "run your Cgminer with these settings" or "add this to your conf file." I know what a conf file is but I have no idea what to do with it. Thanks.
Very basic guide for CGMiner : - Install the software. - Create a .bat file using notepad containing the following : c: cd \Program Files (x86)\CGMiner\cgminer-3.2.1-windows cgminer -o stratum+tcp://mint.bitminter.com:3333 -u YourUsername_YourWorker -p WorkerPassword Change the directory according to where you installed it. - Double-click on the .bat file to run CGMiner. - Profit! I just installed Cgminer 3.2.1 on my Macbook Pro running VMware with Windows 7. I created the .bat file with the following content: cgminer -o stratum://mint.bitminter.com3333 -u XXXXXX -p XXXXXX (with my password and user inserted) When I run the bat file, Cgminer starts for a split second and then disappears, I can see what the problem is because it is only up for a fraction of a second. If I click on the Cgminer.exe file and insert the url, user and password when prompted I get it to run just fine. What am I doing wrong with the bat file? (My Asicminer block eruptor is hashing away at 326 Mh/s. Used the Zadic utility to change the driver, ans Cgminer detected it right away) |

I'm sorry too doc. I'm mining LTC for now as my rigs are at work (free electricity) and I think you are the only pool that I can access over port 80. No other pool is firewall friendly for me. I'll be back once things are stable.

The most unpleasant thing that there is not much doc can do about it Fuck  Doc, Once again Consider VPN+NAT for mining backend. Keeping your real IP hidden will help a lot assuming that you have SOME VPS black boxes just to portwarfard mining traffic. Shutting down the Attacked VPS vpn will guard you completely, then Use different VPS for ovpn. I know that this sucks and is pain in the ass, but this will allow you to change your pool ip on the fly and will slow down the attackers. They will need to prepare/launch new attack against new IP then you will change again in a minute and they are fucked up! PM me if you wnana know more details about the setup, but i am completely sure you got it  |

My guesswork - for the lulz (most likely) - sent drharibo a ransom demand which he is (rightly) not paying (or talking about) - other pools wanting to get more hash power for more income (unlikely) Will |

Moving from IP to IP to get away from the attack doesn't work. This defense was tried by Slush during a DDoS and the attackers just followed him to new IPs, just like regular users did. The attackers are always reading the bitcointalk threads and any other channels that regular users are reading. And of course they watch for changes in DNS as well. |

Add a line to your .bat file at the end with the command "pause" (without the quotes). This will keep the command window open after the initial call to cgminer and let you see what it is saying. My guess is that it can't find the cgminer executable. Is the bat file in the same folder as the exe? EDIT: I just noticed your url looks wrong. I haven't used cgminer extensively but I think you want it to be: cgminer -o stratum+tcp://mint.bitminter.com:3333 -u XXXXXX -p XXXXXX |

add a -t flag so that it goes into debug mode, the cmd window will not close on you.

i suppose the real question in regards to DDoS is what type of DDoS is being performed. I work in the IS domain (infosec) and deal with this kind of stuff regularly. If needed be, I can definitely help reduce exposure and mitigate these events. Bitminter admins : PM me if you'd like to work together to resolve this problem.

Fuck! Are they coming from different IP's? UDp/TCP or both? Is there any way your ISP to filter them out? We know that it is not your fault doc but there must be something to do about it? That is one of the reasons to change your previous hosting provider right? How is the story here with your new provider? 10X |
