Saw CNN Money reporter Jose Pagliery give a talk about his book on bitcoin. Good talk.

Back cover of the book has a recommendation from Jim Rickards. I asked whether he thought Rickards was coming around to bitcoin and he said 'Yeah, he gets it.....Give him time, I'd like to speak with him in another year and see'

edit: sp, grammar

Nice. I was there too. Good to hear Rickards is perhaps more moderate than he lets on in public. He and Schiff do indeed have a challenge on their hands about how to save face when they eventually do have to come around publicly...
I havent seen it but i wonder if we can make a push to get him on the colbert report. I havent seen the show in ages but he used to frequently have book promotions on there.

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

Me too. First though, I would need to understand how they protect keyboard input, which always seems to be one of the weakest links. Especialy if the base is stock (then modded) android. If they wrote their own opsys then that would make me feel more comfortable as long as I knew something about the company background. Come to that, I've never had much faith in wallets that are added onto chrome but perhaps I'm missing something. I'm no longer very technical so I have to rely on others' opinions.

absolutely.  we need more info about how these devices work technically and are they open source.  i'm curious about the firmware vulnerabilities.  sounds like a centralized solution if all messages are routed thru their servers which i think is how Silent Circle works.  but i'd take that risk for now until a decentralized solution is found.

A lot of people diss Hawaii but I always stop there for a couple of days on my way from the us to asia or australia. It's the perfect place to break up the flight and probably the nicest all year climate in the world. I've been waiting for their real estate market to crash and it certainly took a hit in 2009, but with a little fed intervention it hung in there (like most things that should have crashed). Maybe next year.

rising stock mkt and rising USD; toxic brew for gold and silver.

their only chance is that BOTH of those go down, including Bitcoin.

this should have a positive impact:

China’s effect on bitcoin prices and the network itself should not be underestimated. The nation is home to some of the biggest bitcoin exchanges on the planet as well as a number of industrial-scale mining operations

Just thought i'd share this little anecdote about gold:

So this friend of mine went to see his banker @LCFRotschild to talk about his contracts there, wanting to diversify his assets in gold (didn't even try to bring bitcoin on the table, and wouldn't go through with such channels anyway).

The banker started wondering why, and then started chitchatting about the latest new regarding the ECB's 0,05% interest rate (lulz) and bragged about an upcoming euroQE in 2015 (more lulz), problablablably trying to somehow reassure my friend.

My friend then answered: "See?! this is exactly why i want gold. The euro is worthless!" ^^

So after a dialogue of the deaf between the two of them, the banker concludes: "alright i will add a special note "gold" in your contract."

My friend then told him: "no, i want gold bars, not some paper-gold in your system."

And when the banker asked why on earth would he want god damn gold bars, my friend swiftly answered the ultimate punch line ihmo:  "to make door wedges!"
