1821  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: May 07, 2019, 03:56:20 PM
I know it's killing me. On that note I wish there were more Demo/Trade show opportunities north of the border.

It's funny I just started checking the specs out again so I can be prepped for when I get mine, for some reason I thought they moved to the vertical style, but it makes my life easier that they stayed horizontal. I'm happy to hear they went with a larger fan, any reduction of noise is helpful for the home miner. The "major route" traffic only drowns them out so much.
1822  Economy / Reputation / Re: How legit Negative trusted user is on DT! on: May 07, 2019, 03:50:36 PM
~snip~
One member rescinded their feedback, the other didn't

I did exclude both of them, just didn't point it out. I get the impression Iconfirm doesn't care about how others see their feedback and that they use it for themselves how they see fit and that's fine. It's up to other members to decide if it suits them to see it or not, which I did.

i hate to see a DT member uses the trust system in this terrible manners, however I would like to assume that it was just a mistake which won't be repeated - therefore I personally would give his "judgments" a second chance.

I hate to see anyone use it in this manner. I think it's especially damaging for DT to do so, as it does label a person for most of the forum to see by default. There is a good chance there judgement does improve but this was a very knee jerk reaction to a minor slight. That's just not what I'm looking for in what I see under profiles. - I do keep untrusted feedback visible as well always.

This doesn't mean I wouldn't reconsider in the future, but for now it was enough, and really has no repercussions to shasan.

When someone gives you negative trust without valid reason then what does that mean you are a scammer? If you are not a scammer then how you will react, you will keep silence? If you keep silence then what will happen, You agreed with the feedback which you received?
No it means they are leaving unmoderated feedback, not that you are a proven scammer. In regards to reaction a neutral feedback about them is appropriate, "silence" in the form of feedback is also acceptable. Just by remaining silent does not mean you agree with the statement, that's extremely loaded and probably explains why you felt the need to retaliate. Some of the best advice I ever got was to just ignore it and move on.
Quote
When anyone gives false negative trust what does that mean? The person told a lie and the person who told a lie can't be a scammer? In this sense, that person doesn't deserve any feedback?

Justifying retaliatory feedback doesn't make things better, that just encourages people to devolve to the lowest common denominator.
I follow many DT and all most all the DT do the same thing which I did. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Quote
You can see feedbacks from here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=164822 same type of feedback has been given. If I did wrong then all the DT who gave this type of feedback all did wrong. Isn't it?
Why anyone didn't call for those?

Seeming to become a rarity but I don't go digging for a lot of things. I do a disgusting amount of browsing sometimes and just happen along things. I don't follow DT to keep up with everything, as of this moment I do little more than contribute some votes to people who are on DT1

I happened to read your thread, and your feedback was visible. I disagreed and acted, that's it nothing more. In the future jus try and breathe and move on. I had a similar situation with someone it turns out was fairly established in altcoin mining I believe. Came off night shift and realised I was painted red. I looked at the feedback saw it had no substance, and went to bed. Within hours it was sorted out, they had been removed as a DT, and all I left them a neutral about their feedback habits.

Either way good luck, it's nothing personal.

1823  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos is it true that you forced OG to remove Laudas tagg ? on: May 06, 2019, 11:53:14 AM
Well, this should be enough or not? ~snip~

Probably should have been. Although having perused those threads a bit certain comments definitely give the impression otherwise. I'm not calling anyone a liar, and would have loved to see them just bury the hatchet and ignore each other.

~snip~
Yep, it would definitely help--but you can't expect Thule to do anything except spread a rumor with no evidence to back it up.  There's nothing in that link which suggests Theymos got involved, and I wouldn't expect him to.  It would actually be quite a shocker if he did do something like that after all the drama Lauda has been the center of, with no intervention except for removing Lauda from his/her moderator position.

Trust isn't moderated, and I don't think Theymos has ever stepped in to resolve a feud like this.  Hopefully he never will.~snip~

I disagree with there being nothing that suggests it. I've tried to ignore the fact that 2 long established trusted members had been slinging mud back and forth. Unfortunately it's hard not to look and check. There's only 1 person I'm aware of that can blacklist someone from DT. Vod is asking OG to make that statement, in an effort prove he lied behind the reasoning of the feedback changes. So really it's a comment that may be taken out of context but there were a few others that had me wondering about this.

I'm still of the belief that theymos would not interfere, and maybe I read to much into the remarks but that's the impression I got from it; so it did leave me curious. I've generally expected nothing more than to encourage people to bury the hatchet, but not impose consequences. I assumed if the accusation went on long enough there would be some comment or record setting remark made.
1824  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Just hit 5.5 PH, & on our way to 8.3 within the month on: May 06, 2019, 11:38:56 AM
You can check out this thread Phil started. It's speculation about the network difficulty and has a pretty steady discussion around it: Well the 2018 btc diff jumps are over so what will 2019 bring us?

I like the odd gamble and game of chance, but definitely not with those kind of numbers. It would be nice if OP comes back and talks with us a bit, wouldn't mind finding what they do and why.
1825  Economy / Currency exchange / [CBC] Canadian Bitcoin Conversions - or whatever coin really on: May 06, 2019, 11:33:11 AM
Welcome to the CBC.

Are you Canadian (or a resident of) then this thread may be for you; if enough of us use/monitor it. I figured that it would be nice to have a spot where we can deal in CAD and look for EMT as FIAT payment options. I realize everyone can just create their own thread every time, but I've found in the past it's not always easy to find a CAD option. Dealing with PP and USD usually hurts our bottom line once conversion and fees take place.

So moving forward when I want to part with some BTC, I will be posting here. So feel free to post here if you want to be on the radar for people. I'm not going to out any Canadians I know. I am willing to be a middle man for communication if you don't want to reveal yourself as Canadian to everyone as well. (I will exercise caution in helping facilitate any anonymous deals).

So here are some local rules for this thread:

1) You must be dealing in CAD - Or dealing strictly in alts if you're wanting to keep them in the country as your patriotic duty  Tongue
2) Travelling or looking to sell some locally within Canada, sure drop a post, why not. Remember to be careful about disclosing to much personal information; if you value privacy.
3) Perform your due diligence before trading with anyone, even Canadians.  Wink
4) Be clear in your terms what you are looking to buy/sell and at what rate you expect.
5) My french is rusty/ a distant memory but as I've found in the past my shitty French skills and someones broken English can generally understand each other.  Cheesy

I think that's it. I'll add more rules or suggestions/tips if anyone has a good one.

Glossary of terms

CAD - Canadian dollars,    EMT - Email money transfer,       PP - Paypal

Quick option Companies

https://bylls.com/                                    See DarkStar_'s post for info.

Current Offers
As this thread grows and offers become available I will do my best to link the post to the OP in this section.

petahasher - Shitty scammer

Steamtyme - Selling BTC for PP or EMT

Monbux - (WTS) BTC and ETH for CAD.
1826  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos is it true that you forced OG to remove Laudas tagg ? on: May 06, 2019, 09:39:23 AM
It would have helped if Thule linked references in their post. I would assume this is related to this here in the back and forth between VOD and OG.

It's not Thules personal grievance with their trust this time, it's an inquiry into what if anything went on behind he scenes with the older DT crowd, their feedback and theymos. So it does make sense to have it here in Meta I think.
1827  Economy / Reputation / Re: Steamtyme - An attack helicopter clearing the air or a "Reputation Thread" on: May 06, 2019, 06:24:22 AM
Thanks for that. I appreciate you moving it, as it helps keep the thread clean and doesn't look like I'm selectively reporting posts.
Should have found time for a game of poker that day.
1828  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pangolin Whatsminer M10 - 33TH at 2145W on: May 06, 2019, 06:19:18 AM
They are nice, so far not to many issues reported. I think Phil's the only one I've heard of so far that died; that's the second issue on that 1 machine. Then another with a DOA Hashboard. I have one that seems to underperform in low power mode.  Glad to hear your is working out well.

To post images you will need to use a site like imgur.com, then you can paste the link here - They have an option to have it formatted for the forum which makes it pretty simple.
1829  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My "mini" mining farms , set up + wiring on: May 06, 2019, 05:23:49 AM
Mikey, I've been meaning to ask. Did you ever go all in on Mining gear and expand the farm with that cheap power deal? Or did you go the other route and amass coins?

Trying to catch up with a few people who were thinking along the same lines to see who decided on what.
1830  Economy / Reputation / Re: How legit Negative trusted user is on DT! on: May 06, 2019, 05:10:48 AM
I had no intention to give negative trust but I gave it is a replied of the feedback by iconfirm. Anyway, I am removing that as a courtesy.

Leaving that feedback caused me to review and exclude you for now, had I not done so I would have after this statement. I've been reviewing and adjusting my custom list without "default trust" so that I can see how things go and weigh whether people remain on my list, get removed (but still visible through others on my list), or excluded.

I'm not interested in seeing new instances of people using DT for negative retaliatory or personal feedback (would love to see all old ones hashed out as well). It truly defeats the purpose of this system imo, and the changes that are trying to be achieved. I'm glad to see you came around and removed it, but it shouldn't have gone that far. Handle it through the community using exclusions and reasoning, reach out to them, whoever included them, or just through and appeal to the community in a thread to discuss that issue.

None of my decisions are set in stone for life. I figured I would put this out there now as you'd see it down the road anyways.

1831  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Any chance you own a stolen S9? There could have been 2800 or more sold from NY on: May 06, 2019, 02:58:33 AM
I don't quite understand this part, when you get someone to host your gears, you have full access , or at worst case scenario you could monitor the hashrate.

if thousands of gears wen't offline, the gears owners should have known right after the gears were unplugged ! , it takes a lot of time dealing with the transfer of that large number of miners.

but reading further down, it seems like MinedMap claim the miners were never plugged in , if that's the case why continue sending them money for electricity bills??

Yeah somewhere in there it says they couldn't even host 200 Miners June/2018. So it's believable that the majority never did get plugged in. It's hard to figure out if any of the companies saw their gear get turned on. So it would be interesting to see what the sell was or if the due diligence was lacking. Maybe they sold the facility under the guise of an immediate or pending upgrade. Pay up front to secure revenue and we'll have you online in a few months, with a deal on power cost. I could see the appeal in this, and some of the conversations allude to this sort of agreement.

The payments themselves were made in September, and suggest they expected the miners online within weeks I would imagine. It's a large chunk of money to tie up otherwise.  Again I think it comes down to due diligence in spending a few dollars on flights to investigate your investment.

also by looking at the video, i wonder, if they were able to get rid of the miners why not the boxes? and if they wanted to sell them , why unbox them in the first place?

my guess is that Northway lied about their ability of hosting that many miners, and they took them else were, but still if they were else where up and running, MinedMap would never go this far.

there is something missing here, and i think the most important question is the one you pointed out...

That is one of the theories that they are hosted somewhere. Northway had a lot of "projects" on the go there is talk in the article about a supposed build in Louisiana that never got off the ground either. I think there is a lot missing and I'm going to try and pay attention to anything that comes out for this. It's a weird large scale scam, and I'm amazed it got this far given the circumstances.
1832  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Any chance you own a stolen S9? There could have been 2800 or more sold from NY on: May 05, 2019, 12:28:27 PM
Wow sounds like you might have dodged a bullet there. Not that you have a shortage of places to put gear these days.

I'm pretty sure up here any gear they reasonably suspected came from the facilities would be recovered and there's the potential to be charged with possession of stolen goods. That's if they suspect you knew the gear was stolen. I assume anyone who bought the miners would be off the hook for that, if a similar law exists.

I'm just not positive on how they would be able to prove the miners owner if say the labels are removed. Pretty sure all you would get from Bitmain would be barcodes for the batch ordered. I'm assume this as they would have ordered by the pallet.
1833  Other / Meta / Re: theymosisms - A collection of posts for reference on: May 05, 2019, 12:21:15 PM
trust system is a big mess, lets face the truth no bullshits.

Then give a better suggestion on how the system should be operated and if it sounds reasonable and achievable I'm sure theymos would give it a second thought. You should note though dissolving the system isn't an option as that'll only make the forum worst as spammers will be able to rank-up easily and scammers or potential scammers would be disguise as the average forum user, which will be chaotic.

Actually let's move those discussions to the appropriate and already existent threads. It serves no purpose to inject these opinions and discussions into every thread out there. Now if you find some lesser known quotes by theymos that can help spur discussion or provide insight I'd be happy to see them.
1834  Economy / Reputation / Re: Nitrogensports.eu dodging questions regarding their operation on: May 05, 2019, 11:54:35 AM
It's a weird situation to judge. Unless they work on some transparency for their business it's hard to justify leaving any significant amount in their custody as a bankroll. At the same time though there haven't been any reported issues with deposits and withdrawals. So it really could come down to it's a question they don't often get pressed on, and until it becomes a large enough concern for them the current standard responses work fine for them.

I can't say I've really explored the Crypto Gambling market, so I don't know how other sites would answer the same questions.
1835  Other / Meta / Re: Do not allow locking of threads in Auction sub forum on: May 05, 2019, 07:14:24 AM
Seems like reporting there will be fine. I reported 12 posts, gave varying reasons and they were handled good.

It's not a very active board so even locked topics will stay there for a while, but anything moved will fade into obscurity eventually. This would be account sales threads that aren't auctions, but probably relied on the continued page 1 exposure. Most of the reports were to move threads to digital goods or accounts and invites.
1836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you still bother to engage non Bitcoiners? on: May 05, 2019, 05:20:36 AM
I can't say there are a lot of people I talk to about it. I will however have a conversation about Bitcoin with anyone who wants to. After first getting involved, I had a 67 year old coworker who had next to no use for anything new with tech. We did talk about it a lot though as I spent an abundance of time on the forum as well as anything involving my home mine. He though tit was interesting but couldn't see any utility apart from a store of value like silver.

Thought of that as a win, considering he didn't online shop or buy anything not in person.

From that I had a few discussions with people at work around mining and some of the ways I was able to use BTC. A few friends have been interested in using some older miners to heat out-building and other non occupied spaces in the winter.

I don't tell people to put there money in though, I only want to share what I know about it and how I use it. The rest is for them to decide. I did caution people not to buy in when things were in FOMO, kind of said maybe wait a bit this has been a crazy run, see how things shake out. Even then it was just a discussion about it.

I wouldn't be able to stand having the same discussion over and over as I'm not here to convince anyone. I do like when people bring it up again though and seem to be more interested. I have an uncle who at first couldn't be bothered to hear anything about mining or BTC, asking a lot of questions with a genuine interest in the process. Still not interested in getting involved but has a peaked interest.
1837  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Any chance you own a stolen S9? There could have been 2800 or more sold from NY on: May 05, 2019, 04:38:42 AM
I came across a story yesterday that was little more than a few paragraphs and someone's tweets. A few companies I never heard of, and a large amount of miners missing. The strangest part is this took place in New York state, which is not necessarily the location I expect.

Today there is more details and it really does blow my mind.

https://www.ccn.com/new-york-bitcoin-mining-magnate-accused-of-stealing-over-5000-crypto-miners

So I tend to think of Hosting facilities catering to the masses, a bunch of people who can't build their own facilities. I do recall talking with someone in the biz before, and they mentioned people who operate for 1 large client but I assumed that was a bit of a rarity. Then here is a prime example of how even a well backed presumably well-versed crypto firm/firms can be fleeced. These people are out millions on gear, cash, and BTC.

One thing that crossed my mind here is that because they waited so long to actually show up and confront the guy, there's no telling what was done with the miners. One theory is that they were sold, and a lot of people wouldn't think twice about buying used gear from anybody let alone a "hosting facility". So being the US, I'm not sure on what proof the authorities would need to confiscate miners from citizens if they think it's stolen property.

How many people who have bought used gear could prove it wasn't stolen? Also what about Brokers specializing in moving used gear, are they liable if it wasn't disclosed?
1838  Other / Meta / Re: This altcoin is trying to trade merits ? Will theymos allow this ? on: May 05, 2019, 01:40:32 AM
This isn't a merit trading/selling scheme by the coin creators or if it is it's an extremely long game type move. The merit is only being used for distribution purposes.

In the same way people used airdropped merits to farm accounts, they will be able manipulate the distribution in there favor if they have hoarded airdropped merits until distribution of CBUX starts, or earn merits at a reasonable pace. I notice nothing in their announcement preventing alts from claiming, or meriting alts. Really someone can turn their 20 earned merit into 30CBUX by meriting their alt with their 10 smerit. Turn that into a larger scale operation or blackmarket pool of traders and they increase their earnings.

In the same way that the merit system itself is abused their coins distribution could be abused. This is more their problem if they see a problem with it. The forum wouldn't suffer anymore than it does from people who attempt to abuse merit for their own self interests.

It's an interesting concept to use the forum for a launch. They are pretty much saying we are going to hand out [Insert total merit distributed] worth of USD if we can believe in it. A hard sell but a project that doesn't seem to be malicious in nature.
1839  Other / Meta / Re: Add more restrictions/rules to DT2 list - suggestion. on: May 04, 2019, 12:37:47 PM
It's a good catch I was going through some of them before things got busy here. The best thing to do right now is use the ~ for exclusions. It's the only tool we have at the moment, I suggest the users themselves and then the people who have them in their trust list; as this shows poor trust list management.

I know we are still in the experimental and tweaking phases, but for now the exclusions are the way to shape the system as it was intended. Going forward there may be a reduction in the number of DT1 members which should help cut down the number of DT2 as well. When/If that happens the exclusions and "cleaning" of lists will help strengthen the system moving forward. I'll be spending time tonight going through some of it, I've been trying to focus on my personal list and what it shows me more recently, as opposed to the overall DT list.
1840  Economy / Marketplace / Re: How did you get scammed? on: May 04, 2019, 11:54:47 AM
I was probably cheated when I was doing the bounty task, because I just joined bitcoin Forum. As a novice, I didn't know much about it, so I did a lot of bounty in one year, but I got very little return.

That's just what you can expect from Bounties. Trust me when you get scammed you know it, you feel it and it gnaws at you for a while.

For me it was just being naive when I got involved in BTC.  I trusted middlemen to much, like Paypal, I double checked with them before sending money for coins. Then big surprise I was left holding the bag, when I went in with a dispute. It's funny looking back because everything about that situation was red flags, but new and ignorant are hard handicaps to overcome.
